"The Deal: half off all house cocktails, beer, and wines by the glass Better Luck Tomorrow is one of The Heights' most well-worn patio bars. It’s from the same folks as its sister spots Anvil, Refuge, Squable, and Theodore Rex, and just as much booze. During happy hour, BLT’s sippability quotient doubles. Every weekday, the house cocktails, beers, and wines by the glass are half off from 2 to 5pm. Try an Eternal Sunshine with fragrant orange blossom and gin or an electric-green house margarita shaken with avocado next to someone’s labradoodle named Bailey." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene
"This Heights bar, named after the 2002 Justin Lin movie of the same name, is one of the city’s finest places to grab a casual drink and dinner. The fried chicken sandwich — a super craggy-crunchy handheld spiced with paprika butter — is a highlight for both weekday visits and one of Houston’s best brunches, but diners can also indulge in its other major draws, including Pasta Tuesdays, weekly steak nights on Wednesdays, and its solid smash burger. The Golden Hour, a concoction of rums, saffron, golden beet, falernum, and pineapple, is just one of its many go-to cocktails." - Brianna Griff
"Chill out on a hot day in Houston with the Cold Fashioned ($12), Better Luck Tomorrow’s rendition of the classic. The Cold Fashioned is a BLT mainstay — it’s been on the bar’s menu since it opened in 2017. The bold libation combines bourbon, rum, and Spanish brandy with piloncillo and a dash of bitters for a balanced flavor. Stop in between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays to enjoy it for half off during happy hour, or pick it up in a bottled version for later." - Brianna Griff
"Something about a bright green beverage feels healthy-ish. And while that might just be the color green’s publicist working over time, the creamy avocado margarita at Better Luck Tomorrow leaves us glowing—that could also just be sweat from sitting on the sunny patio. True to its name, this marg tastes velvety and refreshing, and while it definitely contains alcohol, it’s more like drinking a smoothie than a cocktail. But no matter the weather—rain, cold, heat, humidity—this cocktail will brighten your day." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene
"One of the most happening spots in The Heights—other than the nonstop pedestrian crosswalk at Heights and 7th—might be the patio. Covered with canopies and multi-colored neon lights, BLT’s patio is a great place to stuff your face with a spaghetti and burrata sandwich at brunch, oysters by the half dozen, sauced-up cheeseburgers, and Italian beef sandwiches spiked with chili crisp along with an ever-rotating colorful cocktail menu. Go there for a low-key first date or Happy Hour hang, and be grateful you aren’t stuck in neverending traffic piling up on Yale Street." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
