The 38 Best Pittsburgh Restaurants - Eater

"You’ll need to be an early riser to get a hold of the doughnuts at Better-Maid, especially the doughnut holes, which are usually the first to go. The line starts forming as soon as the door opens, at 6 a.m. during the week (7 a.m. on weekends), and the shop closes when they sell out, sometimes within two hours. Beyond doughnut holes, the Boston cream, glazed, and cake doughnuts and cinnamon rolls are among the favorites that owner Ken Smith makes on a daily basis." - Briana L White

I Got one dozen of the various flavors of the house special better-maid hand fried doughnuts of Pittsburgh PA! It was well worth the drive! There was a line of over 70 people down the block they have a cult following & it’s no mystery what they have going on here it rings bells throughout the borough! Bar-none best doughnuts in the burgh! Highly recommend via online social medias & they didn’t disappoint no one bit. Donuts came out hot and fresh. The smell was captivating. The taste was like a party in your mouth! Very crispy on the outside soft on the inside with savory fillings on the inside. Trust me when I tell you that you have to pay these guys a visit! CASH ONLY! & Show up bright & early they sell out fast for a reason! They simply are the BEST!!!!

I went to Better Maid for the first time this morning and it was quite an experience. I was the first person to get there. I could smell the donuts in the air while I waited in line. It's really cute in there and the people working in there are super nice! I told the man that waited on me that it was my first time and he let me sample a donut hole. It was the best donut hole I ever had!! It was still warm too. It practically melted in my mouth. I got about a dozen and a half for my family. The customer service was fantastic. I appreciated the man explaining the different varieties to me. Please make sure to tip them when you go. It's not every day that you get such amazing customer service in the food industry. Not to mention all the labor involved in making those donuts. My suggestion is to go early!! They sell out quickly!!

Google
So definitely the best donut I’ve ever had, I came 35 minutes before open with my brother to get them. Was it worth the wait? No. I don’t want to wait anywhere at 7:25 in the morning when it’s 24 degrees outside. However, I will gladly send my younger brother to get a dozen every Sunday for the family to have after church. I’m glad these are so hard to get because I’d definitely get nice and fat from those donut holes. (The line goes all the way down and then extends into the parking lot)

If you are a donut junkie - this is all about texture. Some of them have a nice crunch on the outside, and a light airy texture on the inside. That's unique, and I see why they have a following. Honestly, this is better than most birthday/wedding cakes I've ever had.

Google
Best donuts in the city. Well worth the sometimes 45+ min wait if you’re not there early. I recommend the blueberry, they’re my absolute favorite. My kid always gets a free donut hole when we come by.

Google
Better Maid has the best donuts in town! They bake at 3 am then open at 8 am Saturday. Yes, the line starts at 7:30am. Very affordable! Please be patient as it is a 2 man operation. Most people help each other in the line. True Yinzer Spirit!

Google
A hidden gem located on Steuben Street in Crafton Heights- Better Maid Donuts. Cash only, inexpensive, delicious donuts. They make them fresh daily and once they’re sold out, that’s it until the next day. So I highly encourage you to get there early! Open Wednesday’s- Sundays’s. They fry their cake donuts and they have a more dense exterior, always crispy outer shell but a super fluffy interior with a soft crumbly center. They have donuts holes, regular donuts and filled donuts plus cinnamon rolls.

Google
The best donuts I've ever had, period. Depending on time/day you could be waiting in line to get in (I've had a zero wait time, & I've stood in line for 20 minutes before). Either way it's worth it. Never had a donut that tasted as fresh. It's a a small little place with no tables so be prepared to get your donuts and go.

Yelp
Wow. As far as I'm concerned this is the gold standard for donuts. I've wanted to visit here for a long time but needed to align with my schedule. I decided to visit on a Friday. I arrived around 7:20 AM. There was a line out the door. After 20 minutes I was waited on by one of the two very friendly employees. Out of the dozen donuts I ordered, I had two long johns, two cinnamon rolls, a few cake donuts and a few Oreo type. Donuts were fresh and the best I've ever had. They were sold out right around 8AM. There aren't enough superlatives. This is the best donut shop around. Great product, great price, and friendly people, the perfect trifecta!

Yelp
In 3 the weeks since I first went I have gone back 2 weekends. Only reason it's not 3 is because I was out of town. I Cant get enough of these !! Each time they have a few different specials to pick from that you never know what it's gonna be. Keep going until you get the blueberry !!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious, fresh donuts, great service! Best tasting donuts in town!! Weekends there is a line but during week days it's not as bad - make sure to go early and check their Instagram page for updates!

Yelp
We've been wanting to try Better-Maid Donuts for quite some time! Today was the day! I arrived 20 minutes before opening at 8am anticipating a line and as expected there was about 15 people ahead of me when I arrived. It was quite charming, the line, with those around me sharing their favorite flavors and memories about visiting the donut shop throughout the years. The line is where I learned the donut holes are most popular and a must-buy and to consider yourself lucky if you're in the front of the line because they tend to sell out quick! Once 8am hit, the door promptly opened and the line started to make its way inside. We wanted a variety so we got a dozen of assorted/ almost one of each option, and a half dozen of donut holes that came to $15 total. The staff was so friendly and we'll definitely return! When leaving, I would estimate that the line at least doubled in size. Some tips on logistics! - Cash only - There is street parking but also a huge parking lot on the right side of the building - They post donut status updates on Instagram, @bettermaiddonuts - so helpful to see any specials or when they are sold out for the day

Yelp
Even with all of the hype here and on social media, I still did not expect these donuts to be as good as they were. Maybe the best donuts I have ever had- I wish I could have them everyday. They weren't super dense which is always a turn off for me donut wise. The donut holes were fantastic as well- everyone was right. We showed up maybe 15 minutes before they opened and the line was long but moved at a good speed. Everything was still available when we got inside. The workers were very kind and did not rush us along at all (which I sort of expected with the line they had but I was pleasantly surprised). The parking lot next door makes it easy to get in and out and the building has a nice cozy feeling inside, as well as a little coffee table in the corner. I plan to come back before I leave Pittsburgh come July as it may be a necessity at this point.

Yelp
I have had these wonderful donuts enough times to rank them among the top two or three in the city, but it's always someone else doing the picking up. Today it was me and I know that you can't wait too much past opening or they are going to be sold out. Their hours today (Sunday) said 8 to 10, so I was there at 8:30. There was a line of about a dozen people in front of me and by the time I got to the front 15 or 20 minutes later, there were still a decent number of donuts, but a lot of varieties were long gone. I got a dozen mixed from the varieties remaining, which were mostly chocolate and white frosted. I think you really need to be here when the doors open if you want the full variety to choose from, such as apple, blueberry and their original glazed, none of which I was able to score today. What I got is still wonderful, though, because it's all made with the same basic recipe, which has a texture unlike any other donut I've had locally. I've been trying for a long time to find a good description and I think both the texture and flavor remind me a bit of funnel cake. That's a high compliment. This is a no-frills little shop with an upbeat owner and staff who seem truly happy to be here making and serving fantastic donuts to in-the-know locals. Important to know that it is cash only. A dozen will run you $13 and you can park on the street or in the little lot alongside the shop.

Yelp
I would come here every morning if I could stomach the drive and waking up that early. Good donut shops are in LOW supply in Pittsburgh anymore with so many of the best closing their doors. There is absolutely zero frills here and that's part of the charm. Inexpensive, perfectly prepared cake and raised donuts and from my experience, a very friendly duo working inside. Cash only, worth the occasional early wake-up.

Yelp
Got in line on a Saturday morning at 8:23, 23 mins past open. The line in front of me was about 25 people deep and moving. I waited about 20 minutes and then ordered two donuts to try - a fritter and a chocolate iced with coconut. The two men working were super efficient and friendly. They were chatting with the customers politely, but keeping the line moving. It is cash only and the inside is small, but it's quaint and the donuts are quality. The fritter was crisp on the outside and pillowy on the inside. I'll be dreaming about it, until I get another. Also, $1 each is insane! Definitely make the stop. The line is worth it.

Yelp
As the family donut aficionado, my mom introduced me to this charming Pittsburgh hole in the wall this summer. Returned on Black Friday and this place still hits.I LOVE donuts, especially blueberry cake donuts, and theirs is unbeatable. It's a small operation, and passing through, you may miss it if not for line down the sidewalk. The donut holes are 10/10. New owners very friendly. They are cash only, so thank God i went with my boomer mom because I never have cash. Check their Jnsta for updated hours, and they close whdn they sell out.

Yelp
Donuts are always very fresh. Must get in line by 7:30am so you can get donuts. They sell out fast. Cute little store front. Parking street or in there parking lot. Sells out super fast usually around 9/930

Robert S.

Yelp
I've heard about this place for a long time and I've finally had the chance to try it. I got the apple fritter and I was very disappointed. There were no apples in it at all. How can you call it an apple fritter if there aren't any apples in it. I might try this place.

Yelp
Old school, no frills donut stop! Once they're out, they're out. Cash only establishment. I ordered a classic yeast, glazed donut and a cake donut with chocolate icing. Enjoyed them both & very cheap! Craft donut shops want to charge $5-7 per donut so it was a nice change of pace to order a few donuts and it be under $3; part of the no frills! I'm not usually a cake donut person but will always give them a try to give a full judgement on a donut shop. I enjoyed the crunch of them. Definitely come early. They sell out quick!

Yelp
Hey Yelp, this business isn't even open. Update your app so more people don't WASTE THEIR TIME!!

Yelp
Great local donut shop just outside Pittsburgh. He doesn't have regular hours so don't be surprised if he opens at 9 instead of 8, or just decides to sleep in all day! Regardless the wait is worth it. Bring cash, there's no ATM in the store. And come early - once he's out, he's out. And around here that happens quick. His regular yeast donuts and variants are good, traditional glazed and Boston Crème (custard filled) are enjoyable. Those aren't the best I've had but definitely better than most. The real winner here are his cake donuts. Actually incredible. Almost the same consistency as a yeast donut - light and moist (not doughy or hard like most). Chocolate covered cake donut with Jimmies (sprinkles for you non-'Burgh folks) is my go to choice. If you're in town, definitely worth a trip if you're a fan of an early morning donut.

Michele B.

Yelp
They make the best doughnuts in Pittsburgh! Their employees are always friendly and helpful! It's a funky little place! I love it!
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Great service. Classic donut shop with fantastic donuts. My Favorite is the cinnamon roll glazed. Best in the burgh

Mike K.

Yelp
Best cake donuts anywhere, reasonably priced. They sell out every morning. There's always a line outside, all kinds of weather.

K V.

Yelp
Amazing donuts! Especially the cake ones. The others I could do without. My favorite was the blueberry and my husband enjoyed the glazed.
google avatar

Sara I.

Yelp
Sure-I'll hop on the bandwagon! The donuts were actually delicious. I could describe them as craggly-a little outside crunch and side inside. Our favorites were the donut holes and chocolate iced! They didn't have buttercream filled when we were there. We arrived at 8 and there was a line that took ab 30 mins until we ordered. Worth getting up early for! Nobody is talking about how the building is legit falling apart and the inside has peeling paint and water damage tho..?

Yelp
If you want the best tasting donut, I highly suggest you try out Better-Maid Donut. Be sure to get there early if you want the best selection because on some days, there is a line to get in. The man working is one of the kindest people ever and he is always in a fantastic mood. He absolutely loves the Steelers and making his customers feel welcomed. The donuts melt in your mouth and taste unbelievably amazing. They are so good it is hard to explain how much my whole family loves them. I am so happy they were open today around 11:00 when we were passing by. It may not look like much from the outside, but please try these donuts. You will NOT be disappointed.
google avatar

Aja J.

Yelp
The first time I visited Better-Maid was without cash. I asked for the nearest ATM and sped off. The loveliest donut maker in the land saved me a dozen donuts in the hopes that I would return, despite the fact they were close to a sell-out that day. Better-Maid? More like Better People. They're the best and so are their donuts. If you're in the mood to wallow in sadness, wait to think about a Better-Maid visit until the afternoon. This happens to me ALL the time. "It's noon, I could really go for a donut." NOPE. Better-Maid is up and at'em early in the day, and if you miss those delicious donuts, you'll have to wait several more excruciating hours for the doors to open. The moral of the story is, set an alarm and go!

Yelp
What time you open on Sat March 9? Just wondering. People say all kinds of times online. Thanks.

Yelp
I've attempted to visit this local legend of a donut shop 3x. The first two times, I missed them- they were fresh outta donuts. I knew the 3rd time had to be the charm and sure enough... it was. I made sure to get up early on national donut day and drove over to Better-Maid Donuts. There was a slight line, but it moved fast. For there being only one gentleman working, he did a great job and kept the crowd moving along. Cash-only and the prices are super reasonable. I just went with 3 donuts- the glazed, blueberry and a cream filled. My fiance had the cream filled donut and loved it. The glazed was super good- almost similar to a krispy kreme, but better! I absolutely loved the blueberry cake donut. So flavorful. The hype is real with this place!

Yelp
These are the best donuts in Pittsburgh, however, it seems like they are rarely open. We went this morning, a Saturday, at 8AM. There was a line but the shop was closed. We have had this same experience over the past few months about 6 times-we never get any donuts! DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS SHOP HAS CLOSED PERMANENTLY? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU ACTUALLY GOT DONUTS THERE?

Katie C.

Yelp
Best donuts in Pittsburgh. You know a place is good if they are cash only and a line out the door. Line took about 30 minutes, but the owner was all by himself today. Get there around 7:30 if you want to make sure you get a pick of everything. By the time it was our turn only about a half dozen blueberry cake left, you definitely want one of those. It was totally worth the wait!!

Emily N.

Yelp
Best donuts! They were so fresh and delicious! Very friendly! I went on a Thursday morning and there was a good variety of flavors.

Carol Ann M.

Yelp
The donut was pretty good! It was a chocolate cake donut with coffee icing and it was tasty! It was a smidgeeee hard than a fresh cake donut, so it may have been in the cake for a little bit but still very good. Also had the mocha coffee & that was super good as well! Everyone was very nice and I enjoyed my time there
google avatar

Spencer S.

Yelp
These donuts are the real deal! Made fresh each morning, they're still piping hot if you get there right as they open! I come here about once a month and I've only ever gotten one donut at a time, but the selection is plentiful and there is something for everyone. This time I got the cinnamon roll (I know it's not a traditional donut), and absolutely loved it! The glaze was flaky and not too thick, the cinnamon was plentiful, and the dough is airy so it doesn't sit in your gut quite as heavy as a cake donut might. Last time I came I got the plain glazed and was also impressed by the size and airiness. Staff and friendly and helpful which nice given just how many patrons they service each morning and how many options are available to choose from. Can't wait to see what's in store next month!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for so long and finally got my opportunity!! Better-Maid donuts normally has a line outside for people waiting to get in and when they sell out-they close up shop. Now and then you may be able to catch them mid morning during the week and find them still open but without a line. That gave me my chance to try it out. Once inside I learned that they only permit two people in the shop at a time to adhere to Co-Vid guidelines. Donuts are $.75 each and you can get a whole dozen for $8.00. In addition to donuts they sell crawlers, eclairs and cinnamon rolls. All their donuts are fresh cake donuts and topped with either an icing, coconut shreds, or even powdered sugar. A very nice lady named Rose took care of people and pointed out what was still available. I purchased a couple of blueberry donuts, a sugar covered cake donut, a couple of iced donuts and an apple crawler. I learned that you can place advanced orders but must do so in person. They will not take orders over the phone. They are open fairly early every day of the week except Mondays. Once home I ate the blueberry donut. It was fresh and delicious!!! Truly an outstanding donut for such a reasonable price. I know I will not be disappointed with my other selections. They all smell fresh and good! Better Maid donuts is one of Pittsburgh "hidden gems" to find donuts which is why they are so popular. Located on Steuben St in Crafton Heights, they have a very small parking lot.

Yelp
I love these donuts they remind me of my childhood. I use to live on 5th Avenue during the late 60's. There was a donut shack in the 1900 block that only worked on the weekends. You could smell the donuts frying around 1:00 in the morning. My mom would let us stay up late just to eat those warm (almost right out of the grease) powdered sugar and glazed donuts. I've read some of the bad comments. ignore them. If you can get there EARLY on a Saturday or Sunday morning, they are worth it. Even if you have to come back the next day or the next week....DO IT!...THESE DONUTS ARE THE TRUTH!
google avatar

Lawson W.

Yelp
Donuts worth waiting for! There are no firm hours but get there early because they sell out every morning. It's cash only and the line moves quickly, despite the frenetic pace everyone is smiling and friendly.
google avatar

Kristy S.

Yelp
This place might have the best donuts ever, but I wouldn't know. That's because we tried to go and they weren't open. They are only open when they feel like it. That might be OK if they updated people on the schedule. They can't even be bothered to have a social media account or website where they post opening hours - or even tape up a sign on their door that says "we aren't going to be open today." We headed over at 6 a.m. on a Sunday to wait in line, as we've heard tales of how they sell out early. My boyfriend had just been diagnosed with Celiac disease, and these tasty donuts that are supposedly the "best in Pittsburgh" were going to be his last taste of (non-GF) donuts ever. But, turns out they just didn't open. So we waited for an hour for no reason, then had to head to a much inferior donut shop for some really gross donuts that were a huge disappointment for someone giving up donuts forever. Overall, I hate negatively reviewing small businesses, but this is pretty terrible customer service.
google avatar

Nicky D.

Yelp
Just like the reviews suggest, this shop is a real gem. There are daily specials. Go early, with an open mind (in case your favorites are sold out) and be ready to chat with the friendly locals.
google avatar

Marnie S.

Yelp
Got here at 9:30 this morning and almost all the donuts were gone. (Sometimes you've gotta sleep in on a dreary Saturday morning. Haha) I've heard good things about this bakery for a long time but never stopped by. All they had left were cake donuts (which I love). Got one with chocolate frosting and one glazed. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. We will have to come back earlier next time to try some other yummy things.

Robert J.

Yelp
Probably the best cake doughnuts in Pittsburgh. Though they open @ "730" and there will be in line. But definitely worth at least one try if you're from/in the Pittsburgh area.
google avatar

Ana A.

Yelp
Best donuts in Pittsburgh, hands down! The owner is so nice, and will give you little free treats here and there. I walked in yesterday and he gave me a donut hole to get started! If you go here you have to get a dozen or you will regret it. I brought home a dozen and between my family (of 3) and I, they were gone by the end of the day. Do I regret eating that many donuts? Absolutely not, you'll do the same exact thing. You get a dozen donuts for $9, I think that's awesome. The donuts are sort of thick and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Unlike any other donuts around. I almost bought out all of the plain glazed ones (they're the best). Check the hours and make sure you give a call before you go! If they're open it will ring, if not it'll say the number is disconnected. Hours are slim from early morning (around 6) to about 10:30, things sell out quick! I almost bought him out around 9:30. Even though this virus situation is keeping people inside, these donuts still sell. What a gem to have close to home.
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Really good doughnuts. Best I've found in the city. But you have to be there exactly when they are supposed to open cause the doughnuts go fast, but they may not actually open then. It's cash only and no prices are posted but it's about $1/ doughnut. The cake doughnuts were surprisingly good. As were the doughnut holes. We got there at 7:30 on Sunday and the line was already forming. They didn't open till eight and so we got to stand in the cold for 30 minutes...
google avatar

Marissa K.

Yelp
This place has some pretty tasty donuts. Most are cake variety and they have a nice crunch on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The donut holes are a hot commodity there too. I got there at about 7:45am on a Sunday and the line wasn't crazy but it was out the door. This was on the Sunday of the clock change so the line may very well have been shorter than usual as people were adjusting to the time change. The live seemed to be a lot of regulars. I think they take cash only but I'm not 100% sure on that.
google avatar

Barbara B.

Yelp
Want delicious donuts that are freshly made? (Cash only, Get there early) Look no further than Better Maid Donut. But you'll want to get there early because once they're out, they're out. These donuts are mouth-wateringly good, and you can't beat the price. Definitely get a dozen donut holes, and you'll want to try every donut in the display case. This mom and pop shop is a must-visit in Pittsburgh.

Yelp
In search of the best donuts in Pittsburgh, I visited Better-Maid Dounts on a cold, Saturday morning in March after I somehow happened to wake up at 6 a.m. I've read the reviews, so I figured I should be there at 7 a.m. when the store opened. I arrived at the shop at 6:50 a.m. to see about six cars parked on the side of the street. By 6:55 a.m., about 12 people people were out of their cars and in line for donuts. In 20 degree weather. I figured the hype must be real as I heard the regulars talk about the donuts. Luckily, I was third in line, so I had my choice from the two large cases of donuts when they opened up. The staff was friendly and kept the line moving. I sampled several varieties of the dozen that I picked up- -Plain cake- Crispy on the outside, pleasantly soft on the inside, but I thought it was a touch on the dry side. -Vanilla frosted cake- A spectacular choice... a crispy crust, a soft inside, but the frosting adds a wonderful measure of sweetness. If you like frosted cake donuts, you owe it to yourself to try this. -Glazed cake- The glaze is very sweet, but is well balanced by the cake donut. Very tasty. -Glazed raised- A sweet glaze, and a smooth, light texture. I personally prefer cake to raised donuts, but this was an amazing donut. Again, highly recommended. A dozen donuts is only $8. I have no idea why the owner doesn't charge more since demand clearly exceeds the supply, but I'm not complaining. If you are up early in the morning and love donuts, you owe it to yourself to try Better-Maid.

Yelp
Yup, these donuts are 100% the real deal. Imagine the best donut you've ever had and then multiply it by 10. That's how good these donuts are!! As many have said on here, their hours are a bit out of the ordinary, and yes, the earlier you get here, the better. Selection goes fast! I think I remember getting a typical glazed donut, an apple fritter, and a few other chocolate/blueberry donuts. All were excellent. However, the service was absolutely outstanding. I never felt rushed to complete my order, and they had no problem answering my questions about the specific kinds of donuts available. What really stood out to me was when it came time to check out, I realized that I was short a dollar or so and requested them to remove a donut. The owner said the short change wasn't a problem at all and wished me a wonderful day, all donuts in hand. Of course I made a trip back the next morning to make up for my short change and had a chance to chat with the owner while purchasing a few more donuts. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and it shows!

Yelp
Great little donut shop here in Pittsburg. I Yelped this shop and I will tell you to bring cash because that's all they accept and get there early because there is a line and they will run out. The folks there are very nice and they are so happy to help you and no rushing you around. Also, the woman and the man are quite funny and joke back and forth. This tells you how nice they are, I ordered three dozen donuts and didn't have cash. The guy let me leave and come back, let me take the donuts because he trusted me to come back; unheard of these days. The donuts are very good and I would recommend the glazed, cinnamon, and creme filled. The glazed have a nice heavy glaze with a nice "deep fry" taste; kinda like going to the fair. Price wise the donuts are so cheap, $8 a dozen. I would highly recommend stopping and there a Donkin not to far away for coffee.

Yelp
Literally the white whale of donuts! I have tried to go here so many times, early! When the hours say they are open - NEVER OPEN!!!

Yelp
Definitely one of the best donut places in Pittsburgh. I would put these in the same category as Orams. I usually am not a big fan of cake donuts, however after trying better-maid's cake donuts, my mind is completely changed. There's were crispy on the outside and light and flaky on the inside. My favorite were the iced with the sprinkles. I will say that it took us three times to finally be able to get our hands on these with the crazy lines and variation of hours. It was well worth the wait though. We will be back.

Yelp
Best donuts EVER--WHEN they are open! It is hit or Miss and I've heard rumors of the owner having possible health issues which would explain the randomness of the hours open-but hey-it's his business and he can do what he wants! Best wishes to him for his health. But honestly-in all my years, these are the finest donuts around and well worth the trip if you're not local. It is a risk tho if they aren't open. The donut holes are the best around and the cake donuts with the chocolate or vanilla icings and sprinkles are to die for. Crispy outsides and tasty tender insides. The icings are DELICIOUS! Hopefully someone will get back in there and get things rolling again because this place is truly a GEM!

Yelp
Very tasty donuts! They're cakey, not so similar to Dunkin style or other chains. That doesn't matter- this is a totally different thing and it's great! I went on a Saturday around 8 am and had maybe a 30 minute wait in the line on the sidewalk. It's totally unprotected so dress appropriately if you go during winter/rain. They only allow 2 customers in at a time for safety, so this may make things go slower. The two staff were lovely and made for a speedy and pleasant expwrience

Yelp
I'm a little torn, and confused about rating. This time I only waited 1/2 hour, and I could at least see a light on inside so I could feel sure they would open eventually. They did, by 7:00. First, I will fully agree on the "value" side of things. I got 9 donuts and a dozen holes, and it was under $10. I'm not sure you can do that anywhere anymore. But it's the greatness I can't quite decide on. First, I will say the cinnamon roll was still warm, and I will heartily say WOW for that one. One of the best things I can remember eating. Now, the rest of them...I enjoyed most of them; however, I took them to my mom to try, and we generally agree on donuts, and she was completely unimpressed. She had no idea where they were from, which left me wondering, was I partly influenced by all the hype? Overall I think I would say that I'd go back for the cinnamon rolls, but I probably wouldn't make a special trip (esp since they might not even open!!!) for anything else. But if I was already there, I'd get a couple iced cake donuts, because they were probably my next favorite. The glazed were good as glazed donuts go. The filled ones were subpar for me. One last thing--I didn't love how he just threw them all in haphazardly, because any that weren't eaten immediately ended up stuck to their papers or to each other.

Yelp
I think that the Better-Maid Donut company deserves an updated review. I'm not crazy about the whole update process and how it sort of "hides" my original review and its statistics, but leaving Better-Maid Donut Company as a 3-star review is an even bigger injustice. I initially rated them 3 stars because I was pissed - or let's go with "butthurt" (because really, the world won't end because my fat ass didn't get donuts on one day) that I showed up there on a Saturday morning when they should be open but they weren't. Perhaps they don't understand all that goes into my making a Saturday morning appearance at 1178 Steuben Street. You see, these are the only donuts I get a hankering for. And when I do, I start planning in advance. I can't just go, I have to plan. I have a dog that needs seizure medication at a specific time, and I have to work around that. I have to figure out how many donuts I'm going to get so I don't have them hanging around the house, tempting me after the weekend is over (although some of them freeze really well!!) I don't even really like donuts all that much, having grown up on Dunkin', and not having had any donuts other than Dunkin' until my mid-20s (Krispy Kreme) and I've even grown to be not-so-fond of those. No, Better-Maid Donut company's donuts are my favorite donuts of ALL TIME. There are even really good donuts NOT made by Better-Maid that are really good, but I NEVER, EVER crave them. So, after this weekend successfully obtaining donuts (and eating the living heck out of them) I felt that it wasn't really fair to the business to give 3 stars over the fact that they don't open sometimes. In order to resolve this, we'll just have to move to Crafton Heights. That's a good reason to move someplace, right? Because unbelievable donuts? "Location, location, location," amirite? In all honesty, I do think that in 2022 they should choose a social media platform and just post on those days they know they're not going to be there. But, on the positive side, I'm 5-for-6 on being there on days that Ken and Rose decide to make donuts. Also, if you get there early enough, you'll have a Colin sighting. Colin is the dude that works through the early hours and then leaves around 7:00am (on Saturdays, I never go on any other day.) He always tells me, on the way out, "They won't open until 7:15" and I usually quip, "I think you're being generous" because only one of the 5 times I successfully scored donuts did they open before 7:45am. I'm not going to write again what I've already written, just go look at my previous review for more information. I will say that even with this high inflation, the price of these delicious donuts has not increased appreciably, and they certainly haven't skimped on quality. Just know that if they didn't show up one day, you must try, try again!
