I think that the Better-Maid Donut company deserves an updated review. I'm not crazy about the whole update process and how it sort of "hides" my original review and its statistics, but leaving Better-Maid Donut Company as a 3-star review is an even bigger injustice. I initially rated them 3 stars because I was pissed - or let's go with "butthurt" (because really, the world won't end because my fat ass didn't get donuts on one day) that I showed up there on a Saturday morning when they should be open but they weren't. Perhaps they don't understand all that goes into my making a Saturday morning appearance at 1178 Steuben Street. You see, these are the only donuts I get a hankering for. And when I do, I start planning in advance. I can't just go, I have to plan. I have a dog that needs seizure medication at a specific time, and I have to work around that. I have to figure out how many donuts I'm going to get so I don't have them hanging around the house, tempting me after the weekend is over (although some of them freeze really well!!) I don't even really like donuts all that much, having grown up on Dunkin', and not having had any donuts other than Dunkin' until my mid-20s (Krispy Kreme) and I've even grown to be not-so-fond of those. No, Better-Maid Donut company's donuts are my favorite donuts of ALL TIME. There are even really good donuts NOT made by Better-Maid that are really good, but I NEVER, EVER crave them. So, after this weekend successfully obtaining donuts (and eating the living heck out of them) I felt that it wasn't really fair to the business to give 3 stars over the fact that they don't open sometimes. In order to resolve this, we'll just have to move to Crafton Heights. That's a good reason to move someplace, right? Because unbelievable donuts? "Location, location, location," amirite? In all honesty, I do think that in 2022 they should choose a social media platform and just post on those days they know they're not going to be there. But, on the positive side, I'm 5-for-6 on being there on days that Ken and Rose decide to make donuts. Also, if you get there early enough, you'll have a Colin sighting. Colin is the dude that works through the early hours and then leaves around 7:00am (on Saturdays, I never go on any other day.) He always tells me, on the way out, "They won't open until 7:15" and I usually quip, "I think you're being generous" because only one of the 5 times I successfully scored donuts did they open before 7:45am. I'm not going to write again what I've already written, just go look at my previous review for more information. I will say that even with this high inflation, the price of these delicious donuts has not increased appreciably, and they certainly haven't skimped on quality. Just know that if they didn't show up one day, you must try, try again!
