Afternoon tea at BG Restaurant in New York is a delightful escape from the city's hustle--elegant, serene, and undeniably Upper East Side chic. Tucked inside Bergdorf Goodman with views over Central Park, the setting alone is worth the visit: light-filled, beautifully appointed, and just the right mix of refined and cozy.
The tea service itself is classic with a few modern touches. The finger sandwiches were fresh and well-composed--standouts were the smoked salmon on dark rye and a delicate cucumber-mint. The scones came warm, served with clotted cream and jam (though I could've used a bit more cream, to be honest). Desserts were dainty and delightful, with the macarons and mini lemon tart stealing the show.
Service was courteous and efficient, if slightly brisk at times--understandable given the popularity of the place. The tea selection is solid, if not overly adventurous, but everything we tried was fragrant and well-steeped.
Overall, BG offers a refined, quintessential New York afternoon tea. A splurge? Yes. But for the view, the ambiance, and the well-executed spread, it's a worthy one. Would I return? Absolutely--especially for a special occasion or a stylish mid-afternoon treat.
