It was our first night in Rome after a trying day of snow storms in Minneapolis, delays, impossible treks at JFK International, and no sleep on the flight. We needed some Italian love, and Bianca Trattoria in the delivered, especially the charming Lorenzo. He took us under his wing and guided us along a wonderful meal. Bianca Trattoria in Trionfale, not far from Vatican City, is the second restaurant of Chef Davide Del Luca. He designed Bianca to be a traditional, local, restaurant, and it was filled with Romans from the neighborhood.
On this Monday night in February, about twenty book sellers sat at one table, entertained by an author hawking his book. They were an energetic group. A few couples, including us, were scattered about the lovely one room space. Despite the large group, Lorenzo and his compadre, took great care of all of us, with smiles and Italian panache.
Our Pasta Carbonara and Bucatini all'amatriciana were incredible, both al dente, with the Carbonara having the crispiest bacon. Chicken Cacciatore was cooked in pieces and bursted with flavor. Lorenzo warned me my fried fish dish was very light and might not have a strong flavor, but it was done perfectly, and I was full. I couldn’t finish my large portion. We took desserts back to our apartment in Prati.
Bianca Trattoria was the perfect spot for our first night in the eternal city. The cold and ICE of Minneapolis seemed far away, in a different galaxy.
