It's been decades since we have dined at the historic Hotel Mac. When we heard that the owners of Mi Casa Grill, which we are a fan of, has taken over the restaurant at Hotel Mac, and reinvigorated the menu and the interior space, we were excited to try it out. We made a reservation for our anniversary celebration.
When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised at the renovated interior space. Across the bar was a nice sitting area with a piano (live music was provided the night of our visit). The former dark interior is now brightly lit with new light fixtures and ceiling tiles. The bar is beautiful with modern stools. The dining area now comprised of 3 areas: the mezzanine overlooking the bar, a cozy and larger backroom, and a couple of romantic tables for two by the staircase with red carpets. We chose the mezzanine area as it has large windows overlooking the street.
The dinner menu was quite comprehensive, with good list of appetizers, salads and soups, main entrees, seconds, and desserts. We started with the Melon e Prosciutto and Insalata di Barbabietole (beets salad). The portions were generous, and we were already nearly full after we consumed the appetizers. Then came our entrees, which were the lobster ravioli and Linguine Pescatore. The lobster ravioli was delicious, but it was also very creamy and heavy. The seafood linguine had a lot of seafood (mussels, clams, calamari, fish, prawns) and the tomato-based broth was spot-on. The portion was also generous, so I ended up packing leftovers as I needed to save room for desserts. We selected the pana cotta with berries compote, and the coconut custard pie. Both were wonderful and also came in generous portions. The servers were attentive and efficient. We enjoyed our experience at Hotel Mac, and afterwards we walk around the lovely Pt. Richmond square. The buildings looked charming with the spotlights and the illuminated window displays, as if the buildings had make-up on.
