Bibliotheque Review - Soho - New York - The Infatuation

"Bibliotheque is a bookstore, bar, and cafe in Soho, ostensibly for people who like to read, or at least be in the vicinity of the written word. In the front, there is a hybrid coffee/booze bar where people hold court with laptops during the day. By evening, a scene forms inside the back lounge, where you’ll find couches and cocktail tables surrounded by tall, imposing shelves of shiny new novels, and self-help books. No one is reading them. Soho’s best-dressed come here to drink wine and eat charcuterie under high ceilings and sparkling chandeliers, in a room that looks like the home library of someone with a roman numeral in their name. Yeah, it’s kind of annoying, but it’s also an undeniably gorgeous space to take a date for a drink. You can both buy that new Murakami and pretend you’re actually going to read it." - Neha Talreja

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"If only there was a place where we could celebrate our passion for old dusty books and wine that costs more than an average rhinoplasty appointment. Oh wait, there is: Bibliotheque is a Soho wine bar, coffee shop, and bookstore that’s owned by a well-known plastic surgeon and his son. You can drink bottles of wines priced from $58 to $13,540 amongst stacks of books while contemplating lip fillers." - Will Hartman, Willa Moore

Google
I had a fantastic time! I arrived about an hour before closing and was able to get a table in the back for dinner without a reservation. The back area is stunning, with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with books for sale. The service was excellent, and the wine selection was a pleasant surprise. The Chenin Blanc was my favorite. The menu is largely seafood-focused, but during the day, they offer a café menu with coffee, tea, and pastries—which I’ll definitely be returning for!

Google
Adore this place!!! The tables inside are incredible. Foods are also great, go really well with their selection of wines. Definitely willing to go back with my friends. Personally, I think this place shines in the evening time. But they also sell coffee menus, so probably check them out! (Wish I could)

Google
Recently visited Biblioteque with a few friends on a Monday night, they happened to be hosting one of the movie nights that evening so we sat at the bar. Despite an event happening, there was enough space for the screening and other patrons to enjoy their evening without noise/space restraints. They have a generous wine selection and some small bites, which we enjoyed the cheeseboard. The staff were friendly, attentive, and had great recommendations. Definitely recommend for friend/date night or checking out the range of events they host.

Google
We had one drink each and spent some time appreciating the cozy environment the bar provides. There was a private movie session happening (pre-booked), which is very interesting. The bar has an events schedule that brings writers, creators and every kind of artist to talk about what they love most. Very cool place to visit!

Google
Great coffee, nice atmosphere—you can even order a glass of wine. The food was tasty, and I loved that you can grab a good book while you’re there. A perfect little spot to relax.

Google
I've been wanting to find a cozy reading spot. I had seen Bibliotheque in many insta stories so went to check it out on a Saturday around lunch time. We were able to find seats at the bar, so we read for a bit with wine. I wish we had a chance to lounge in the comfy chairs in the back, where the cool book deco is, but it was still great vibes. I think it might be a great spot for working on your laptop; I felt like the desk/chairs are more for work mode and not cozy reading mode. I would love to revisit during the week and see how it differs.

Nicole D.

Google
The coolest place in the neighborhood! Such a discreet place when you walk by, but when you get in it has a cool atmosphere with books wine and pastries, what a combo!

Ann Suárez

Google
This place is unique and charming, perfect for book and wine lovers. My experience with their movie nights was very pleasant and the atmosphere is superb. It’s popular over the weekends and they usually have event during the week so maybe plan your visit or be willing to be a bit in a tight spot. Totally worth it tho.

Yelp
Cafe by day, wine bar by night. Offers wine all day actually, but after 5pm laptops, permitted all day in the entire space, are not permitted. extensive wine list (an entire book with chapters) friendly service small food menu $$$ but there's a $17 glass of wine and a $16 sandwich great vibes for a date or any occasion with friends Soho, NYC

Yelp
Fantastic atmosphere service just as good Mocha was spot on ;) Will be back next time in NY

Yelp
Came here during a rainy day, and let me tell you, it was great. The combination of a rainy day with the 360 degree bookshelves really brought the whole cozy scene together. I came here to work for the first time and was happy to find outlets readily available at every table! The wifi was strong and the coffee was soooo good! I got the Neopolitan Cappuccino which had espresso at the bottom, I believe a milky latte in the middle (?), and strawberry foam on top! Very creamy and flavorful. Excited to work from here again in the future!

Yelp
Easily one of the best, most vibey coffee shops in all of NYC. I'd had this place bookmarked for a while, but never went out of my way check it out. I just happened to stumble upon it one random Sunday afternoon, and am so glad I did. For such a beautiful coffee shop with a beautiful seating area/bookstore in the back, it was surprisingly relaxed and not too hectic in the middle of the day. The coffee and tea drinks are priced at about what you would expect from any coffee shop in the area, and made well. My matcha was a tad gritty, but not offensively so, and still very tasty.

Yelp
Its a nice place if you want to kill time and read a book- they offer wifi so ive seen people even work there too. Interior is amazingly done for book lovers like me, the only negative i found was that i wish they offered more menu for food- if thats the case, i think it will attract more people even during day time :)

Yelp
Cute Spot - we came in the late afternoon so you still order at the counter and find a spot. Definitely super busy - adorable setup. They serve dinner but we were not there for set-up. Iced Latte and two French Sparkling Ciders was all we ordered, just taking a break from the heat but definitely a cool spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little spot for drinks in the Soho area. I came for happy hour and there were only a few people inside - they wouldn't let us sit in the back room where all the photos are from unless we ordered food with our drinks. The vibe is chill with books surrounding the whole room and a chandelier in the middle of the room. I haven't been during the day, but apparently this place turns into a cafe where you can bring laptops and work from. Nice unique spot to come to!
google avatar

Sanjana D.

Yelp
The drinks here are so good and the interior is drop dead gorgeous. I love the library and cozy feel. There's also surprisingly a lot of seating and many outlets-- this cafe is definitely laptop-friendly in that regard and I would recommend visiting!

Yelp
It's a fun spot- aesthetically absolutely what I want, but it's a little pricey for average coffee. On an early Saturday afternoon you can probably get a couch / lounge spot for two but it gets harder as it gets later. It's a nice place and beautiful though, would be a fun start to a date or meet-up.

Yelp
OMG bibliotheque is my new favorite place EVER. I went for dinner (which maybe I'd recommend just drinks the sandwich was okay) but I loved this place so much. Such a vibe. It felt so elegant and classy and I loved being surrounded by books. I would die to come here and just read and sip on a glass of wine. I didn't love my sandwich because I thought the bread was a little too hard on the caprese but the rest was still delicious and bibliotheque doesn't necessarily market themselves as a restaurant. The morir soñando was absolutely delicious. I usually don't like spending $18 on a cocktail but this one was so yummy. I'm coming back here 100%.

Yelp
I visited on a rainy Sunday around 5:30 and it was decently busy. This place is a cute idea with books surrounding the lounge area but I don't feel like anyone would actually pick up books like a bookstore/library and read them at their seat. It's also way smaller than you'd think and I was told I couldn't sit in the lounge area because they had to leave room for future reservations even though when I looked online, there were plenty of open reservations. I assumed it would be more speakeasy-equestrian but the floor plan was pretty open with just a wall of wine separating the front cafe area and the lounge. My friend and I sat at the front bar and just chatted and I just got their blueberry basil limeade which was good and not too sweet. The noise level wasn't too terrible and it's a good place to have a conversation with someone but it was a little overhyped on social media.
google avatar

Esther R.

Yelp
I love the high ceiling and floor layout! It's definitely a cozy interior although seats are limited ever since this place got a lot of traction over social media. The iced americano and almond croissant is pretty good!
google avatar

Avery D.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe! I got a pain au chocolate which was delicious and they served it warm. The bar area is super cool but the back room is the best. It's got all of the bookshelves and amazing chandeliers and beautiful ceilings. I went on a Thursday at 2pm and there was room to sit! Would definitely recommend come here for a cute place to work. I'm sure it's a vibe at night when it turns into a bar as well.

Yelp
This was a fun place to visit, but the vibe was very different from what I expected from the way it's marketed. I saw a ton of posts (including by Bibliotheque) advertising it as basically a bookstore/library meets wine bar, and it is absolutely beautifully designed inside- the back area is large but cozy, absolutely stacked with books of all genres. However, we went at night and it was LOUD and much more of a party vibe than I expected- like, Vengaboys playing while every table was talking kind of vibe. Just not exactly what I think of when a place is described the way Bibliotheque is. We didn't go during the day, so maybe it's a bit different then, but it was kind of a surprise at night. The wine selection was also a bit small for a place that's advertised as a wine bar, although the wines we had were good (especially the Albariño). I found the way it's described online to be a bit confusing, but basically, when you get there, there's a front area that looks like a normal bar with some additional tables, which I think is for walk ins. The reservations online are for the back lounge (which is the area with tons of books you see online). We got numerous messages that we had to order both food and beverages if we sat there, so we had a cheese board with our wine that was excellent- it came with the most delicious toasted bread, fig jam, mustard, two cheeses (I think a cheddar and Gouda), and two meats (mortadella and chorizo). They also gave us extra bread when we asked for it with no charge, which we appreciated. We had excellent service during our visit, too. ETA I appreciate the owner's quick and informative response to my review! We hadn't seen the wine bottle list, only the regular menu, and did come on a Saturday night, which I'm not surprised is a lot busier- the music definitely encouraged a more lively atmosphere, though.

Yelp
Friendly staff, made my kid a special drink. The library is a nice quiet-ish study space but also a nice place to sit down and read with our not so quiet toddler.
google avatar

Connie H.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday afternoon to do some work! The place was pretty packed but I was still able to find some seating. Got a latte and a sandwich which were both pretty good as well :) Staff was super friendly and ended up helping me bring over my food because I had too much to carry :') Good wifi + lots of outlets!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is new but yet when my friend and I went it was sooo packed!! It was a cold Saturday afternoon so lots of people were seated at the front near the bar, and then the back is filled people doing work in the back. I will say if you do need to get serious work done, I would suggest a quieter place or some noise-cancelling headphones because it gets super loud - there were groups of people standing and talking when they didn't find a chair, so it became almost like a louder bar than a coffee shop type vibe. The decor is gorgeous too (ladders to get up the rows of books also)! You order at the bar for any food or beverages (it did make it difficult if you do not know that when you first walk-in, if you grab a chair and you're solo you'd have to give up your seat to order) and wait for it to bring it back to your spot. I really like the concept of people being able to read a book when they come in, or have the option to order either wine or coffee. The seating is first come first serve until 5PM, where they take reservations, so if you did want to come back I'd suggest making a reservation! Overall, I really liked it and think the concept is innovative. I ordered a matcha latte and appreciated that the matcha was strong and not too grassy tasting and was high quality! Great start so far!!

Yelp
What a very cool concept of a place. Bar/ bookstore/coffee shop. I just heard they opened 3 weeks ago. Very friendly staff! There are couches/ tables in back. Great place to do work/ read, catch up with friends. It's in a great area of Soho. I am so glad I found this place through an Instagram ad this morning. If you are in the area I deff recommend you to stop in. The atmosphere of this cute spot is awesome. Very chill. The bar area is very nice. There is seating for about 13-14 people and a plus is that they have many outlets under the bar for those who want to use their laptops at the bar. They have a few food and pastry options. I got a decaf Iced Latte which is pretty tasty. I will be back here and bring my friends here.
google avatar

Yelp
Only just recently I'd discovered a similar book store/bar concept in East Village, then along comes Bibliothèque. I may only come here now. It's stunning, clean, beautifully designed and truly feels like a mini reading haven. I went on a Sunday early afternoon and luckily snagged a free couch. Ordered a pot of tea, Riesling, oat latte and almond croissant. I love that they warm the almond croissant!! I'd never thought to have it this way and now feel that every bakery/boulangerie should do this. I also love that pastries and drinks are served on dinnerware. It makes such a difference. I came back on a weekday early evening and got a seat at the counter as the lounge is reserved for reservations. Tried the grilled cheese and it was yummy. The vibe at Bibliothèque is a warm, chill elevated feel and the offerings don't disappoint. I'll have to come back one evening to exclusively try the wine bar. So happy Bibliothèque is here.
google avatar

Vicki C.

Yelp
Cafe hours are popular but you can make reservations for dinner hours at @bibliothequenyc after 5pm. This bookshop is a cafe in the day and wine bar at night. Not too many books but it's a nice selection to pick one home. The food and drinks exceeded my expectations too. What a great little gem with nice vibes to catch up with friends. Would love to go back!

Yelp
Bibliotheque has quickly become my go-to spot in NYC, a delightful trifecta of cafe, restaurant, and bookstore that seamlessly blends study, drinks, and hangouts with friends. From the moment I stepped in at 10 am, right when it opened, the enchanting atmosphere captured my heart. The backstory of a father and son creating this establishment adds a layer of charm that resonates throughout. The cafe's unique concept, allowing patrons to study, enjoy drinks with friends, and savor delicious food all under one roof, sets it apart in the bustling city. The interior is a carefully curated haven, adorned with captivating decor. Every detail is well thought out, from the walls of books that surround you, creating a cozy library vibe, to the meticulously designed bathrooms. One standout feature was a cool clock made up of many smaller clocks, adding a touch of whimsy to the ambiance. Arriving early was a wise move, considering the previous weekend's bustling crowd. The place was a haven for those seeking a tranquil study environment. The friendly staff, even during busy hours, went above and beyond. Not only did they ensure a pleasant experience, but they also filled up my water bottle with a smile - a small gesture that speaks volumes about their customer service. As for the menu, I'm eagerly looking forward to trying every item. The diverse offerings promise a culinary adventure that aligns perfectly with the cafe's multifaceted identity. The anticipation is fueled by the satisfaction of knowing that Bibliotheque values not only the quality of its offerings but also the overall experience of its patrons. In summary, Bibliotheque has left an indelible mark on my heart. It's more than a cafe; it's a sanctuary for the mind, a gathering place for friends, and a haven for those seeking respite. If I could rate this place higher, I would. I look forward to many more visits to this extraordinary establishment that has mastered the art of blending comfort, culture, and community.

Yelp
Dark and moody and cozy all at the same time. Lots of books all around the bar and seating area to look at/buy including blind date books. Some people came with friends and others were there solo to read. The wine was great (a little pricey but not bad for the quality). Loved the orange wine I had. Great place to just chat with a friend. The hostess was also very friendly and talked with us about books for a bit.
google avatar

Shanta K.

Yelp
Loved this viral coffee shop. Was Able to snag a comfy seat in the corner and read but also ppl watch. A lot of folks come here to work or do class work so if u can come snag a seat early it would be beneficial. Matcha wasn't the best but the pastry was really good. Reasonable prices for soho manhattan but the servers and vibes were really cool and welcoming. Can't wait to come back at night for a glass of wine and some reading
google avatar

Sojourner S.

Yelp
Coffee was delicious!! Such a cool location, service was awesome. They will explain and talk through any book your are interested in, and wine is served as well in the day in case coffee isn't your thing. They offer small pastries and sandwiches, and honestly you can hang here all day. Seating is limited so if you can't find anything, don't be shy, ask to sit by someone. Other than that, 10/10!
google avatar

Kenneth T.

Yelp
Like the concept but it's poorly executed. I understand if this was just a place for people to read and drink wine, they probably wouldn't make money. It just seems chaotic later on in the day for the restaurant portion when theres so many people standing around. Not a big fan of the "no labtop" policy after a certain time. I think keep the reservations system but allow people to eat and work at the same time. People at the bar can stay at the bar without interfering with tables just like at any restaurant. Give the tables a time limit for the next guest to unwind. Sort of like the cafe at barnes and nobles where it's quiet and everyone is sitting, reading, working, or listening through their headphones. Response to the owner: thank you for your reply but I don't think you understood what I was trying to say. Maybe I could've worded it better.
google avatar

Carol G.

Yelp
Love this place. A bit small, but very cute and good for a meet up with friends. Reservations is a must, if you end to sit in seating area.
google avatar

Carmen W.

Yelp
Vibes on vibes! I was very fortunate to be able to do an engagement shoot here, in which the owner was so generous and kind to let us come before store hours to enjoy some coffee and get pictures in. The back of the coffee shop has books for browsing and purchase, giving away beauty and the beast flashbacks. The front of the coffee shop has more casual seating, with bar seating in front of the barista. Beautiful interior with fun interactive art (please check out the piece in front of the barista!). I had a latte which was nice and strong, and gave me the pick me up i needed for my early morning. Will definitely be back for wine as this shop is so stunning and staff are so lovely.
google avatar

Margo G.

Yelp
Bibliotheque is a unique cafe, bookstore and wine bar after 5pm. It's located on Mercer Street in SoHo. It is a post Covid concept as you can a read and buy books, work on your laptop, and snack on L'Epicerie Bouloud snacks while having coffee. It has high end art pieces and is a modern designed cafe. It was founded by Dr. A.J. Jacono, a world renowned plastic surgeon and his son, who is a writer. Occasionally, there are authors who come to speak. A place to bring your intellectual and culinary senses together.
google avatar

Ori F.

Yelp
Found my favorite coffee here. The ambiance is soooo nice. Everyone who works here is super nice. Great place to grab a coffee and do Some work
google avatar

Aparna B.

Yelp
The concept of a bookstore with wine is just amazing. This place must be new because it was like THE place to be on a Sunday afternoon. The seats are all first come first serve. I had hoped to find a spot in the back amongst the books but the influencers were running wild in there. So I snagged a spot up front to read for a while and enjoy a glass of wine. The staff was so friendly and attentive, the cab franc I tried was delicious and not too expensive and the bathrooms were super clean.
google avatar

Taylor Z.

Yelp
The interior in this place is gorgeous. Excellent for a smaller group or date night. Reservation definitely needed as it's not that big in the back.
google avatar

Bonnie C.

Yelp
Reb made a delicious cappuccino. And a beautiful design. We enjoyed our meal and dessert. Thanks!
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
Actually loved this place and they also had pretty decent seating as well! The interior is nice with all the books displayed and it's a pretty extensive space !

Apoorva B.

Yelp
My friends and I went there to do homework, and the ambience is amazing. I got a vanilla matcha and it was good!
google avatar

Sheridan S.

Yelp
This was the perfect place to sit and relax in the mid-afternoon. Environment was cozy and chic, and I want to come back and indulge in their expansive selection of tinned fish. Be warned the place is small. Only knocking one star because a limeade will set you back $10 and a glass of wine $20, at the low end of the spectrum.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
Hate giving this place such a great review because it means it will get busier haha - but I have to say this place is a gem!! Reb is a shining star and was so kind and accomdating even during the busy rushes. A great place to get work done during the day with some awesome coffee and pastries. I'll have to try some of the wine next time I come, but nonetheless a great place to hang out with a lovely vibe.

Brandon L.

Yelp
Good: interesting interior. Bad: I just ordered a flat white (which turned out not to be, but rather a kind of muddled mess), and a few minutes after getting it the hostess comes around to tell everyone she's closing the area in a few minutes to serve dinner. Why wouldn't you tell someone this ten minutes before *that* when they order a coffee to stay... wtf
google avatar

Morgan W.

Yelp
Average tasting espresso, traditional espresso based menu, fresh pastries, and extensive list of teas offered. Bar area, high table area, and seating in the back where the library is located. You're going primarily for the aesthetic and Instagram shot of the library. Clean bathrooms, nice staff, and wifi available. Would be good for studying but only if you go early to catch a desirable seat.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Nice, but extremely crowded on a rainy Saturday with nowhere to sit. Maybe better on a weekday
google avatar

Ria S.

Yelp
Come for the vibes, leave because of the coffee. I wanted to love this place, I truly did. A coffee/wine bar/library hybrid in the middle of SoHo. But after being passed over at the bar for ordering multiple times for customers who arrived after me, and getting caffeinated coffee after asking for decaf, I can't exactly recommend this place for its coffee. Next time, I'll be sure to try some wine and maybe my experience will be different.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Exciting concept at Bibliotheque, but the overcrowded environment dampened the experience. Navigating through the packed space to access books or find a seat was a challenge. An additional drawback was the disruptive event meeting held in the midst of patrons, making it less conducive for quiet reading or focused work. A bit more consideration for the atmosphere could greatly enhance the overall appeal.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Service is friendly. Drinks are great. Atmosphere is wonderful. But if you come after 5pm, and you're just drinking, they won't let you sit in the back to enjoy the ambiance. You go to the front. You do not pass go. You can't have your library and drink it too...unless you pay a little more for food.
google avatar

Ivette G.

Yelp
Let me begin by saying, I visited on a Saturday at 6:30pm - the review could be entirely different during day time hours. 1. The place is incredible, clean and super chic 2. Reservations was super easy but they require $50 deposit 3. You can only sit at the seating area with reservations- NO reservations is by the bar 4. I LOVED the wine! 5. This is a PIT stop place or a low key wine night. ** the menu is super lackluster* I ordered a "Cuban" and it's not a Cuban... and it was served with lays potato chips. My bill was $120 for 2 drinks, empanadas and 2 sandwiches... it just felt overpriced for what we got (table for 2)
google avatar

Elle P.

Yelp
A lovely cocktail bar with a conversation conducive space (read: not too loud, but not so quiet that you can hear everyone else's conversation), an accommodating selection of wine, beer, coffee, and shelves of books! The lights are dim so I wouldn't expect to do too much reading there without a reading light, but you can skim through all the latest and greatest in comfy seating. The books are available for purchase should you find one you can't put down. The service was warm and friendly, from the awesome hostess to the bartenders and servers. Perfect for dates, drinks with friends, and bibliophiles.
google avatar

Rhea G.

Yelp
A wonderful cafe! The vibes here are great, especially for remote work or to just chill and read. The almond croissant is pretty fire too!
google avatar

Gabby Z.

Yelp
Here on a Wednesday afternoon and the service is terrible. Had to ask twice to be helped. $10 for a cold brew but it is SOHO. Person at the back cashier near the comfy seats was really nice. Atmosphere is nice.
google avatar

Candace M.

Yelp
Great place to visit! Amazing coffee, croissants, breakfast options, and more. It's a coffeeshop / wine bar / bookstore. Lots of books to choose from. Comfy seating and a bar area. Decor is on point and friendly service.

Jamie F.

Yelp
Had a really nice date with my boyfriend here. Make sure to make a reservation for dinner time. So much to look at, amazing ambiance. Dressed somewhere between business casual and formal and felt like I fit in. Grilled cheese was amazing and huge wine selection.
google avatar

Don S.

Yelp
Awful and rude french diner that pretends to be a bookstore. Awful staff, awful energy. The usual dead cyborg nyc vibe filled with children that are not home and prefer to act like they are playing videogames but in a diner that looks like a bookstore. Skip this unless you work in the area or want a quick coffee.
