The Best East Bay Coffee Shops with Free Wifi

"Friendly and laid-back, Oakland’s Bicycle Coffee roasts organic beans and delivers wholesale orders by bike. Perhaps even more famously, it serves free drip coffee and cold brew to all on Fridays, making it feel like a true community spot." - Janelle Bitker

New Bay Area Restaurants: Bandit, Maker of San Francisco’s Best Breakfast Sandwiches, Opens Dogpatch Restaurant | Eater SF

"While the original outpost closed, the brand isn't leaving the neighborhood: Bicycle Coffee moved across the street into a bigger Jack London location, keeping its presence and cheekily signaling the change with a 'Look behind you' sign on the old storefront." - Lauren Saria

The Best Restaurants and Bars Around Oakland’s Jack London Square | Eater SF

"Bicycle Coffee can now be found in a few locations in Oakland, including the Grand Lake Farmers Market, but this is the company’s first stand-alone cafe. It’s funky and warehouse-y with a real family-friendly, community vibe, amplified by the fact that a portion of sales go to World Bicycle Relief." - Dianne de Guzman

Bicycle Pies Review - Oakland - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"In 2020, a lot of chefs started takeout and delivery operations out of their homes—and one of our favorites is Bicycle Pies in Oakland. On a recent visit, our favorite was the roasted kabocha squash, turnip, garlic, and bacon, which was folded into a golden-brown, flaky pastry, and tasted like a hug and the very essence of autumn. If you live in the East Bay, owner Michael Barrett might even deliver the pies to you on the titular bicycle." - Julia Chen

If you live in Jack London, this should be your go to coffee shop. If you don't live in Jack London, this should still be your go to coffee shop! We met the manager while walking our dog on a Sunday morning. We went back to grab coffee and the vibe was awesome. The pastries are great. If you see the blackberry cream cheese criossant, do not skip it! we had the chicken and the chirizo empanadas. They were so good. I just wish they were open before I had to leave to for work. This will be our new spot.

I love their coffee, that’s the issue. I buy their 5lb bags, they don’t sell on their website, so I drive about 18miles to get it. There is no phone number to call before I leave. They have an email, got a response real quick. The issue, said they had it back in stock. I drove, sat in traffic, I walked in, nothing! Nothing! After they conformed. Utterly annoyed. Update: your email said nothing about having a bag in the back, your email said “IF” I had a question to find Matt, after looking for the bag where they normally are, and seeing a line of 10-12 people, and after driving 18+ miles, I had no questions, I was annoyed. In your email it should have stated “Matt has a bag for you in the back, when you get there ask for him and he will get the bag for you” that’s a clear statement, now I know what to do. That was not communicated properly.

In short: This is not a dog friendly space My dog barked and got nervous at another dog, they had me waiting inside for a longtime, and they asked me to wait outside but since my drink was as being delayed, I asked for a refund and they declined, rushing my drink and making the wrong one and also just being kicked out. I guess I missed the no dogs allowed sign bc I also wasn’t gonna let her tied outside. I love me a dirty chai with oat milk but not the customer service approach :( Apologies to whoever my dog offended with her barking - Laila is sorry too

Google
One of our go-to coffee spots in JLS. Friendly/efficient staff, and tasty coffee. Super affordable too; Somehow still cheaper than all the big chain coffee shops. The pastries are decent, and they'll heat up the sandwiches and burritos from the fridge for you. They're always really quick with filling drink orders, even when they're packed. The bottle-neck for time is waiting for food to go into the little oven to heat it up. Cool swag in their little merch corner too.

Google
DONT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!! I went here to have a cup of coffee and do some work. I stepped outside to take a phone call standing in a service doorway where I was out of the rain. I was berated by an employee for smoking (I don’t smoke) I went to the owner who basically didn’t care. Irritated and aggravated I left the place. I’ll never return. I had planned on staying there and eating, but with terribly mannered employees I can’t get any work done. I REPEAT DONT GO HERE

Dude w glasses said “ please don’t ever bring in again” referring to my trash/coffee cup from another cafe. He took step further when I tried to explain. “Read the sign… “. It’s trash! Can I leave timeout now? Anyway, the rest of the team is cool.

Google
Bicycle Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops - it has a simple interior that is combined with a roasting shop. You can see for yourself how the magic of roasting coffee happens. Good baristas who know how to make delicious coffee work here. And Espresso coffee beans will allow you to make great coffee in your kitchen in your espresso machine.

Yelp
Bicycle coffee has cycled to a new site just across from it's old one. Metered street parking only. Not many. Seating inside and out, just a few. Single barista on duty post noon. Offerings posted on back wall behind counter. Not easy to read. Another copy near entrance would make ordering easier. Offerings: lots of latte variants, a few coffee standards, cold brew, kombucha, empanada, mochi muffins, boba drinks.. Service quick upon reaching counter. Basically order, pour & go. Drink: dark roast drink coffee (3.75) -initially slightly harsh. When cooled, it was smooth... -not as nuanced as some brews, still preferable to most. 4.5 stars not a stellar experience due to parking issues & lack of prior knowledge of offerings. Covfefe is fab!

Yelp
Kind staff and good service, but unfortunately it's a 40-60 minute wait to order to-go cartons/jugs/boxes of coffee, unless you order ahead. I went in to ask for contact info (unfortunately no phone number, social media, etc, although you can order coffee beans from their website). The to-go cartons/jugs serve 8 people and cost $35 before taxes. I didn't try their boba yet but the mochi donuts were fun (3/5 stars).

Yelp
A great coffee ship near the center of Jack London Square, yet a bit off the beaten trail. Seeking out a place for a morning coffee, and knowing that the Blue Bottle location nearby had closed permanently, I located this on Google maps. When I arrived, the place looked closed and shut tight. A sign to the side instructed me to 'turn around and look across the street to the new location'. Bingo! Relieved to find the place, it looked fresh, upbeat, hip, and tastefully designed. They have a huge array of coffee choices, and I just chose a regular 16oz brew. They had a variety of milk mix choices, half/half, whole, oat, and more, that you add it yourself from containers on the counter. I also ordered a morning bun as they had an array of pastry selections. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. I got my coffee right away. They do not take cash! There's lots of choices to sit and linger. Patrons kept coming and going, so the place is very active. I also liked that they have doggie treats on the counter for visiting canines, and I saw one enjoy a couple. The coffee was excellent, and the bun was good. All in all, it's a good choice for coffee.

Yelp
Support your local coffee shops! Now open, their new location right across the street from its old location. It has a lot more room to enjoy your coffee and also their warehouse in how they make their coffee. Check it out! Located in jack London Oakland.

Yelp
Come for the coffee -- it's great! -- stay for the mochi baked goods. I had the coconut mochi donut and now wondering "where have you been all my life, mochi?" It was chewier, tastier than any donut I've ever had. They made me a dirty chai almond milk no foam latte like it was no bother at all. But back to the coffee. These guys are all about coffee. Sure, so is every coffee shop in the Bay Area, right? Peets started here. Blue Bottle may be the current fave. But they can't have this story: Bicycle Coffee was started by people as serious about biking as they were about coffee -- as well as the environment. Most of the space is devoted to roasting coffee beans, which are delivered on bicycle (tricycles, to nitpick) to other coffee shops. Act local but thinking globally, Bicycle Coffee gives with a portion of their proceeds towards buying bicycles for those who can't afford them. Really, what's not to like about this place?

Yelp
Fantastic coffee with an excellent visual menu, and a really great selection of nut milks to choose from (macadamia nut milk in a vanilla latte, yum!). The coffee was rich, smooth and served from pleasant staff who looked happy to be awake on a Sunday. Unfortunately, the Sunday pastry selection (baked on Friday) was tough and stale to the point that we couldn't even tear off a bite of our morning bun. Lesson learned, go for the fantastic coffee; get pastry elsewhere

Yelp
Greetings to all coffee connoisseurs, coffee enjoyers, i need coffee to functionalists, or the tmi coffee helps with bowel moments in the mornings while my boss makes 1$ and i make a dime, that's why i poop on my company's dime, welcome to Bicycle coffee's newest location. For those who may remember, Bicycle Coffee had a set up in Jacklondon out of a space in a shared warehouse facility with the garage roll up door; this cafe is across from there. The Broadway location is now closed. This location and cafe design is beautifully designed with glass windows, nice temperature controlled indoor seating or sit outside with high tabletops and stools. Service is quick and friendly. Beans are roasted in small batches and because of this, you know your coffee will be some of the freshest and most delicious. With the purchase of a bag of beans, you have an option of a free 12oz coffee drip or cold brew. Their beans are roasted on the lighter side; even lighter than the blond roast at starbucks so you can taste the subtleties of fruit notes and caramelization of chocolate or sugars. So, if you like dark roast like starbucks, this place might not be for you. All baristas are knowledgeable, talented and kind. They have a variety of milk and milk alternatives for the non-dairy drinkers. They have all methods of coffee beverages including cbd options. For those who don't want coffee there are selections of teas and boba beverages. Their Matcha latte is one of their popular non coffee drinks. With luck, you may find a parking spot right in front, or at most down the block at a meter. Either way there's plenty of space. But, don't take my word for all the excitement I've preached in my review. Come on down, and experience it yourself. Cheers all~

Yelp
I haven't been back to bicycle coffee in a while. This place really upgraded since the last time I was here. Great spot for some really good coffee. I decided to get there white mocha and my husband got a bag of coffee beans and he got his coffee for free. I would definitely recommend to come and check this place out. Just as good as it was when I went years ago.

Yelp
Ambiance was very chill and welcoming, my order came out fast. Easy to read and understand menu/ in case you want to know the coffee to milk ratio etc. Pretty helpful. Also the empanadas were delicious. Took 3 more home for later. In the area for a basketball tournament and walked here to get a coffee from another known spot but decided to give this place a try and it didn't disappoint. I'm glad I stopped by.

Yelp
Great service and great coffee! I got the dirty chai latte and it was delicious. I will definitely return when in the area.

Yelp
I came in today in the morning and was very surprised about the customer service. I was the only one in line, and I felt rushed by a male employee who looked clearly irritated that I was indecisive of what I wanted to order. I hurried up and ordered and got out of there as fast as I can. I used to come pretty often when it was across the street and a smaller establishment and the staff there were very kind patient and even knew you by what you ordered ,it was very personable. I can't say much for these ones hope they do better, I probably will not go there again and will go to Starbucks which is further down the street.

I'm just picky over my drinks ! definetly check this place out, you won't regret it!!
