I've heard about this place from a lot of local friends, but never went, until tonight.. Oh boy, let me tell you, it was delicious! The service was great. All of the employees are friendly. So what did we order? Nantes Carrots - Unique flavors, refreshing, tasty, a pleasant mix of sweet and salty. Meatballs - Delicious. The marinara sauce is the best I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot of Italian food before). Cheese Bread - Fresh, crispy, cheesy, easily dippable in all of the sauces. The kids will love this one because it's fun and easy to eat. Joe - We made it gluten-free and added pepperoni. The crust was light, crispy, and perfect. The pepperoni was crispy and tasty. The marinara sauce was delicious. Dipping Sauces: Ranch, Marinara, Shallot Ranch. They are all freshly made and delicious. The Shallot Ranch will blow your mind. You can dip everything in these and make everything even better. Well, this has been one of the best pizza places that I've ever been to. I will definitely come back. If you haven't been yet, please go immediately.

Excellent food! Great atmosphere! The flavor combinations are so good. Highly recommend all the starters and you can never go wrong with pizza.

Beautiful space, excellent wine selection, exceptional side dishes, charming and friendly staff. House made bread and house made ice cream. Pizza is top quality in ingredients and the high level of craftsmanship. Love to see it!

I’ve been going to Frank’s Pizza since early 70’s and was sad when they closed. However, my tastes have changed over the years and I no longer prefer that thick greasy heavy pizza that Franks used to serve. When I saw Bicycle Thief I was very excited because this was the style of pizza I’ve come to really enjoy! They have done a really nice job cleaning up the place and it is a fantastic atmosphere and the service is top shelf. The price is also very reasonable. However, I was not happy with the pizza. It lacked flavor and the crust reminded me of cardboard. Additionally, I don’t know if my pizza was burnt or if that’s just the way they cook it. If they accidentally burned it, I wish they would’ve taken the opportunity to redo it. I think it was pretty obvious that it was overcooked. I only get down there every couple of years, but next time I do, I will give them another try to see if their food has improved. This may have just been a bad day.

This is such a great spot! My husband and I stumbled upon it and decided to stop in for lunch. We sat at the bar and shared a few of their square pizza pies — absolutely delicious and ever-changing, since the flavors rotate based on the chef’s inspiration. The chef and servers were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is so lovely and cozy, making it the perfect place to linger. We finished our meal with a scoop of olive oil ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful meal.

I ate pizza at the restaurant once, and the food was fantastic! The building itself is too loud for my taste. However, if you order to-go, it’s atrocious! No exaggeration. *There is also, literally, no way to reach anyone at the business by phone.* We ordered 2 pizzas (1 gluten free), about $80, along with a couple of bottled drinks. Nearly $100 for two people. One pizza didn’t have any substitutions, it was ok. Husband wasn’t impressed. My pizza (gf) was only cheese with the prosciutto I paid extra for. No other toppings! We were meeting friends and brought over the pizzas. I opened mine, shocked! My friend, blown away, said she had just ordered a pizza to go recently, and it was ONLY crust with sauce! No toppings! She showed me a picture. I still ate the pizza hoping it would be good. Meat and cheese! It literally made me nauseous and sick. I couldn’t stomach it. Either the pizzailolo doesn’t understand how to read the online orders, or doesn’t care. Regardless, nobody can possibly believe charging $30-$40 for a smallish, stripped pizza is acceptable! Awful business.

We had the Caesar salad, Broccolini, two vegetarian pizzas, and very interesting flavored ice-creams. They were all delicious! Lovely cozy atmosphere. Only thing I’d say was that it was a little loud from other conversations. I’d recommend doing some type of acoustic absorption and deadening on the ceiling and walls so it can feel more comfortable.

Now, this- is experiential dining. High quality, nutritious ingredients are creatively assembled in an open kitchen with a large bar. Feels almost like art gallery vibes, with mature plants and collectable vinyl records on the walls. They offered me to half a half and half pie, because I couldn't decide between the special and one of the Mainstays. It's a difficult economy to host such fine options! But it feels worth it to me to spend on such mental and physical sustenance as I was served here in Grass Valley. My local friends are already competing over where I go next with my leftovers 😆

Food = excellent & delicious Service = excellent & detailed Ambiance = great for a Pizza & small plate restaurant. Only had pizza & salad because small plates aren't served till 4 pm

Wow. Just wow. We only ever make our own pizzas (We're really good pizza makers ourselves.), but this place is exceptional. We will only buy from here because it is worth it. The flavors are amazing. We wanted to order more! Next time, we will order more for sure. The marinara sauce the cheese bread came from was very flavorful and felt authentic. It was chunky with still plenty of liquid. The cheese bread was good, but the marinara took it to another level. Portions were decent as well.

Amazing gluten free pizza. The vibes are chill and there's a turntable as proof. They also have cider for us gf folks!

We had dinner here during the festive mayhem of Cornish Christmas on a Friday evening. It was welcoming and (literally) warm inside. We shared the evening's "special" small plate of spicy roasted cauliflower--so delicious!--and a pizza that was excellent; we had food leftover to take away. We received terrific service seated at the bar. There are tables in the back to accommodate large groups. A thing that I noticed and really appreciated is that, although it's a fairly small place, the bar stools are not bolted to the ground, allowing for easier maneuvering and the tables are spaced a comfortable distance apart. Small but thoughtful details in an establishment.

Good is amazing, specials are fresh, gelato is a must. I go back everytime im in town.

Great beer, such good pizza and Ken provided great service. This place must be one of the best places to get pizza in the foothills.

Popped in at around 4pm and was delighted by the retro cool ambiance, friendly staff and absolutely fire pizza. The drinks they have on tap are a wide selection and on the drier side not so sweet which I loved. The whole restaurant screams laid back and super hip, from the funky lighting accents to the records and posters that line the wall, hats off to whoever designed this warm, approachable yet creative and unique interior. We got the pizza with pepperoni and it was delicious- perfectly charred thin crust, lots of topping, passed the fold test (did not sag). Also got the pickle platter appetizer with tangy yummy veggies all pickled it was refreshing and delish! Loved eating dinner at bicycle thief!

Great atmosphere and unbelievably delicious pizza and apps in this little pizzeria that will make you feel like you are eating in Italy. Outstanding wine list and great beers. Don't forget to save room for the housemade gelatto.

This restaurant is really top of my list here in town. The vibe is pretty chill. Upscale pizza and small plates joint. So far all the food has been awesome. But the real winner for me is the Harissa Roasted Cauliflower. If you do one thing while you're in Grass Valley, come here have a glass of wine and try this dish. I travel all over for work and by far this is the best dish I've had hit my lips in years. It is a delicate roasted piece of cauliflower rubbed sitting in a bed of whipped feta and herbs like mint, dill and parsley. It's a taste sensation. Service was fantastic, and by the way if you have space have the vanilla with Meyer lemon Kurds ice cream made on-site.

I posted a crunchy pizza challenge on the Nextdoor app in my community and someone mentioned Bicycle Thief. Not quite the name I would expect for a pizza place, but Yelp reviews and photos were good. We decided to drive up from Roseville to check it out. Once we arrived on Main St. we realized we've definitely been in the area. We visit both Grass Valley and Nevada City often. We visited on a Sunday just after lunchtime. Walking in you get to see the pizza's almost immediately. The lunch crowd was leaving so we got seated right away. The staff very friendly and we got to visually see the actual slices of pizza. The entire vibe in there was good--especially the music coming from the turntables. Pure nostalgia and super cool! The pizza was simply amazing! It took a little longer than expected but we were not in a rush. The wait was worth it. We ordered a second slice. There's much more to this place and apparently the dinner menu is bigger. We did have the hazelnut ice cream. Creamy delicious goodness. We will be returning in two weeks. If you're looking for something different, go check it out. You'll really enjoy it.

We came here on a Saturday night for dinner and it was amazing! The place was busy and lively with ample seating so we were seated shortly in a cute booth. The service was a bit slow and it took some time for a waitress to come and take our order, but the servers were very friendly nonetheless! We ordered: - Cheese Bread - This was delicious and the flavors was so good, with the cheese super stretchy and warm. The marinara sauce on the side was a good combination with the bread. - Ruby Pizza with Mushrooms Add-on (which is a White Pie) - The pizza was pretty good! I really liked the flavors and adding the mushroom on top really enhanced the taste. The portion sizes at this place are super generous and for two, we definitely had leftovers to take back. Overall, we had a great time and we will definitely be coming back here for dinner if we're back in Grass Valley!

This is a review for the food only as we ordered a take out pizza but we did not actually eat in the restaurant. Ordered pizza on line a few hours ahead of time and pizza was ready at 5 as promised. Bicycle Thief is in the old Frank's Pizza location from years ago. Everything was fine. Topping were interesting but there weren't too many of them considering we paid over $30 for the pizza. Overall, the pizza is fine but the toppings are on the skimpy side. 4 stars only because this is overpriced pizza for what you actually get.

What a surprise. Went there for the first time on Friday during the Cornish Christmas, we didn't have reservations so we sat at the bar. We ordered the sausage , mushroom and red onion pizza. Absolutely delicious. Atmosphere very nice and the staff were very friendly. Now one of my favorite pizza places.

Try the Bee Thousand. The perfectly light and crisp crust supported an array of delectable toppings. The honey added a nice, sweet note to a tangy sauce. I'm not ashamed to admit I ate 75% of the pie myself on the first sitting. When I walked in, I was promptly seated at the bar and made order came out quickly. The decor seems new and I enjoyed the vibe of the place. It seemed plenty of regulars would pop in and have a drink while waiting for their order to be ready. I really appreciated that they had a fun selection of nonalcoholic soda (like Fentimans) for those of us who don't drink or in the middle of longer drives. Wonderful place.

Better food than you might believe could exist in the Sierra foothills....or at least my naive self did! Quaint little spot that is pumping out delicious pizzas and a Caesar salad that I can't get my mind off. I need to try more of the menu, but I keep going back to what I know. This place is great for Togo so if you can't find a seat, grab a box and hit the promenade.

I'm not surprised with the high ratings for Bicycle Thief. It's a very cool place with concert posters and Vinyl albums on the wall. The host was very friendly and gave us some excellent reccomendations. On to the food. It's rare that I start with the veggies, but the carrots with hummus were off the charts delicious and the corn ribs were incredible as well. We also enjoyed the cheese bread with aside of meatballs which was a perfect pairing. Give this place a try!

10/10. Came in for dinner with a friend who recommended this restaurant. The two of us who had never been here before did not leave disappointed. We started with their special, which was a caprese that had the freshest peaches, burrata and heirloom tomatoes. We then had broccolini and meatballs before we ordered our pizza. Every dish had a little extra flavor to it. There was chili oil or spices that really elevated every dish. We cleaned the entire plate for a dish before we would let them take them away. The sauces were just too good to not eat all of it. I did forget to snap a pic of the pizza but we ate until we were stuffed. Somehow we did have room for the ice cream. We had the Oreo and also tried the banana Nutella flavor. Both very different, both fantastic. I loved the vibe of the restaurant with the decor and the staff was friendly and attentive. I'd come back anytime!

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! We walked in without a clue of how busy it would be! They said the wait was an hour since we didn't have a reservation. A lot of people would've went elsewhere, but it was a sign to me based on pictures & the food we saw as we signed in, that it would be worth the wait. We walked around the shopping area while we waited and returned with about 20mins left of our quoted wait time. We decided to wait inside, which was a pretty tight area. But little did we know, the owner would approach us offering a drink to us which we did order. Before we really reviewed the menu, we had an idea of what to order based on the food we saw around the restaurant! Once we were seated, it was a long family style table and we sat at the end chairs. We ordered WAY too much food, but thank goodness we had leftovers! Food we ordered: #1 Meatballs - these literally melted in your mouth! They were drenched with sauce & I still wanted more of the sauce! It was sooo tasty! #2 bread plate with burrata and EVOO - this was simply delicious! The bread had a perfect crust but was chewy on the inside, the burrata was creamy. What a treat! #3 JMV pizza - this one has no cheese, it really gives you the full flavor of the red sauce, sooo bomb to me! # 4 Rita pizza - good balance of traditional pepperoni pizza with a kick! The crust was firm and chewy! We ordered a 2nd Rita with no sauce for our kids. #5 blueberry waffle ice cream - just get it if they have it! It had chunks of waffles inside, blueberry throughout, I couldn't get enough of it! The food was truly delicious! But the staff really made this experience memorable! They were extra friendly, apologized for the wait and thanked us for waiting (they clearly did not need to do either!), the waitress was accommodating, friendly & attentive! The atmosphere was super cool! If we are ever in the area, it'll be a must stop for us! Shoot, we may even plan a trip around our stop just because it was so amazing!

Yeah it is the best artisan, almost neopolitan style pizza in the county. Sorry, 3fork, your oven is very nice, but the attention to detail isn't quite there. Table service is good, even when they are extremely busy. Speaking of which: make reservations (online, no phone) if you plan to go on a weekend evening, etc, especially. This is not a place to buy a slice and run. This is a place to have a drink or two, and enjoy a meal. What's the downside? Well, they don't have a full bar. Not sure if that is part of the plan or not, but at least they have a good selection of beer and wine and similar. So what's the downside? It's really really loud. Especially in the back room when full. They have got four acoustic panels on the ceiling. They need fourteen such panels to begin to tame it.... And someone should run the Sonos app to EQ their speakers especially if they continue to have them play loudly. Don't bring children here (it's loud enough to be dangerous to their ears) and think twice before being your parents if they use hearing aids.

I have been waiting for this place to open! They are located on East Main Street (next to Enriques Lounge) in downdown Grass Valley. Although they don't open until 4pm it was worth the wait! We had the Joe pizza and loved the parm on it! Love the wine and beer selection! I like that the menu has both the white and red sauce separate, so its easier to choose from. It has a classy and warm atmosphere! Please note that there is no big signage yet..so don't miss passing this by! Great addition to downtown Grass Valley..its upscale!

Came in on a Sunday and tried 5 of their square slices. I can't even pick a favorite because they were all so good. Kids got a cheese pie and it was also fantastic. Will definitely be making the trip from Sacramento to enjoy the pizza again soon.

Absolutely no notes! We love you Bicycle Thief! And not just because you named your pizza place after one of the most important pieces of cinema of the 20th century. Your boutique pizza and small town vibes are where it's at. Always delicious and a great place for a date. Thank you!

This place is exactly what you want if you're looking for quality pizza. They certainly outshine anything you will find currently in Sacramento. 10/10 for service, good quality and ambience!

I know it's a pizza place but I just adore the selection of vegetables on the menu at Bicycle Thief. We started our dinner with the Papavero and Ceasar salads - crispy lettuce, perfectly dressed and generously sized - more than enough to share between the 6 of us. Cheese bread and house pickles were next on the lineup, both of which satisfied the kids and adults in our group. We wrapped up with the Rita and a potato pizza. The Rita had a kick, without being painfully spicy or taking away from the flavor of the ingredients. I'm embarrassed to admit that although it was a memorable pizza that I would order 1000 times over, I can't recall what was on the potato pizza! Although I'm only home every couple of months to visit family, this is our new go to spot. Super sweet wait staff, fun vibe and a menu that makes me want to try one of everything.

Well, the pizza is good, that's it. Enjoyed the live DJ. Watched people order at the same time as us get served, ate and drank.... Then we got told our pizza had a hole. Watched another couple come 15-20 minutes after we ordered sit down, eat, drink, and leave well before we got our food. All in all, awful experience. I watched them all just stand around forever while we waited an incredible amount of time for a fresh pizza. Watched the DJ eat, bartender/server eat, everyone ate well before us. Was very excited but the longer the wait, the more ridiculous it seemed for a pizza place. Their solution? Eat pizza that's been sitting out for who knows how long and not what we ordered, or icecream. As I appreciate the free food, a discount on our way too expensive pizza would have been better. I watched way too many employees wait around and do nothing for how long it took and how many others were served, ate and finished before us. The restaurant was full and emptied before we even got our pizza. Awful service, awful wait time, and the pizza was just ok after all of that. Left angry, and unsatisfied. Better options for the cost and time in Grass Valley. Avoid if you are starving.

The food, service and ambiance were amazing! The pizzas were fantastic as are the drink selections. The music and staff inside are great. The broccolini appetizer was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Also, save room for the homemade ice cream as well! I'll be back!

Huge fans of the family that opened this sweet spot! We had been meaning to try and finally did, but were a little nervous being loyal Frank's fans... but WOW!! Turns out their business is as amazing as the humans they are!! Such great quality food, some of the best crust I've ever tried, impeccable sauce, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, just ALL THE THINGS! The time and energy poured into this lovely spot hit the mark and then some! Thrilled to have a new favorite in the 'hood!! Great work, R fam!!! Xo

Salads are large and sharable. Pizzas are also very good. and service was quick and attentive. 2nd time and looking forward to future visits.

A gem in Grass Valley! Caesar salad was excellent and a super generous portion for two people- could easily feed four as a starter. We ordered a 1/2 Texas Tommy 1/2 Bee Thousand pizza and loved every bite. Definitely worth the hype!

My friend and I came here on Friday night, maybe 30 minutes before closing, after we arrived late into town with very few places still open, and we were starving. We were accommodated and served without any feeling of being an inconvenience or hurried, which was amazing after our exhausting, stormy road trip! (SIDE NOTE FOR THE RESTAURANT OWNER): We tried to call ahead to ask a few questions and discovered there's no phone number. If I could knock off 1/4 star for that, I would, because we both have (annoying to us) food restrictions and prefer to call ahead to ask if they can accommodate them. It's better for everyone so we don't waste our time, and we also respect the staff's time! We feel for the servers who have to sit through our detailed questions and complex instructions about what we can and can't eat, and in which forms, etc. We know many people are just picky or following trendy diets, and waitstaff often get a lot of grief from unreasonable, rude, entitled people. We just want to be efficient and respectful, so everyone can relax, and we can show our appreciation when a restaurant is able to accommodate our needs! As far as the food goes, it was divine, and I would give it more than 5 stars! The server was very patient in answering our questions and coming up with alternatives or fixes. I have issues with cow dairy, and my friend has issues with garlic and onions. They created a half/half pizza for us to share, with each side made for our dietary needs, that has to be HANDS DOWN one of the most delicious, simple pizzas I have ever had! The thin crust was perfect, and I'm pretty sure I could have eaten the sauce straight with a spoon. We also ordered the beet salad, and the flavor of the beets was so savory and rich that we were probably making inappropriate noises. To top it off, the music in the background was perfection, and the relaxed atmosphere couldn't have been better.

We've never been here, but it was recommended by a few people in Nevada City. We stayed in the town just long enough so we could try this pizza. When we got there we were asked if we had ever been there for lunch, we said no. Then she asked if we had ever been there for dinner, we said no. She kind of explained what to do and then she came back for our orders. We only wanted slices. She said slices were made by one guy and if we wanted to know what pizza he was making today, we had to go and ask him. That was such a weird request we ended up just leaving. YOU, as a server, can let me know.... I'm not going to do your job. Thanks.

We have dined in and enjoyed take out several times now! Everything we try is simply amazing. One of our favorite pizzas is the Ruby! It is so delicious with the white sauce. You must try Bicycle Thief for their excellent friendly service, fresh ingredients, and convenient order on line take out, as well. We highly recommend!

Service good, water good. Pizza very mediocre. If you are going to eat pizza it should be better than you can make at home, this was not, pretty tasteless, crust nothing special. Won't return

We've been meaning to visit Bicycle Thief for awhile and I am so glad we finally did! It's a super cute spot with amazing food and friendly staff. Their food is a little on the pricier side, but the quality is definitely worth it. The pizza was perfectly cooked (not floppy!). Make sure you save room for their house made ice cream!

Only one 1 star review on this shop and if you look at what that person gave a 5 to its pretty easy to see their opinion cannot be trusted. Bicycle Thief is easily the best pizza in GV, possibly Nevada County but hard to choose between here and the joint. I love that the menu is minimal - do a few things and do those things well. The Bee Thousand is IMO the best, lots of flavor with the honey and chili. Really everything is good, including the salads and I am looking forward to trying their unique desserts. 5/5. No notes.

This reminds me of a place you would find in Philly or NJ the pizza is that good. What I like the most is they're creative with their menu. Their corn ribs are so good and their atmosphere is fun and unique.

I'd read a review about it being too loud and they were not exaggerating. I walked in, sat down, and immediately got up and walked to my car for my ear plugs. They've had a vegan pizza on the menu every time I've been in. Crispy crust like Blue Line. Great veggie sides. If you can handle the ambience, I highly recommend it.

Our third visit to Bicycle Thief before a show at the Center. The service (Kent) was exceptional. His recommendations were spot on. Loved the special of the night (Brussel sprout pizza . . . who woulda guessed!) and the pistachio ice cream. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. All around a great experience.

One of our favorite places in Grass Valley, because of their quality ingredients, upscale environment, and value. We are pizza snobs and everything here has been great. Even their recent ice cream addition was creamy, flavorful and unique. Attentive staff make the experience enjoyable! Those sensitive to noise should sit in the front of the restaurant, as the back section be noisy due to the hard wall reflections.
