Have you ever built something up in your head, only to be let down when you actually encountered/achieved it? Decades ago, I built up the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at Disney World in Orlando. Turns out, you don't actually go underwater on the sub. You just sat at a window that was underwater. Meh I still remember the sting of that let down.
BBB was a little of the same disappointment, minus 20,000 leagues.
I was scanning Reddit and someone else asked for great breakfast places. BBB and a few others were mentioned, including Monel's (which I agree with). I hadn't heard of BBB, so I went to the website and looked over the entire menu. There's plenty of things to select, even shrimp and grits. I'm a fan of shrimp and grits, but my standards are high - see SNOBs review. The red-eye gravy made me think, nope.
On the menu alone, I decided to give BBB a shot. It's nearby and their menu descriptions are written in a way to...well, make you think you're going to go underwater on a sub. On marketing, BBB gets a solid 4 stars.
I opted for a Mother of All Biscuits. The menu touts it as, "Crispy-fried dill chicken breast and cheddar cheese on a buttermilk biscuit."
First, the good. The biscuit and piece of chicken are large. Not "OMG" large, but large enough to make you think, "okay...$9, I'm not being taken advantage of and I didn't have to sit in a Chick-fil-a (CFA) line - this is fine".
The greeting staff and wait staff are friendly. The place isn't huge, but there's outside seating. It's clean and moderately decorated. The hours are breakfast and lunch only.
Now, the less than good. Maybe I'm used to a CFA, but I got almost no dill brine in the chicken. No, in fact, I got none. The chicken is not some CFA breaded piece of chicken, where you can ask for no pickles and still taste pickle. Despite the menu's promise, I was unimpressed. It didn't seem to even be the evil stepmother of all biscuits. It was moist in the middle, less so on the edges. It seemed to have been freshly fried.
The biscuit was portioned to the chicken, but it was so-so at best. About 1/2-way through it broke apart and it was eat what you pick up and stays together from that point forward. If you're expecting Hardee's, slathered in butter, and then slathered in more butter, this is not that biscuit. It was fine, but a bit crunchy on the bottom - which may have led to the break apart mid-munch. If you ask me to eat a chicken biscuit with a knife and fork well, you don't deserve the South I grew up in.
For me, BBB was 2.5-3 stars. I've had better breakfasts (Monel's) I've had worse. It's unlikely you're life will be changed, but there are plenty of other items on the menu, so your mileage may vary with what you pick.
