Big Boy Gyros

I love eating here when im around, way better than all the fast food options. You can tell they use fresh quality ingredients as everything always tastes great. The gyros are a must have, Big Boy never dissapoints. Photo is of the grilled chicken sandwich 🔥🔥🔥

I'm loyalist. This is probably the best gyros in the whole city. The fries are to die for. I've been bringing people here over 10 years. That's how much I believe in this. This is the joint my kids want to go to on days off school. I'll miss the day when they're not in school any more. Jimmy makes this neighborhood dive seem like home. In fact, in my family we don't call it by Big Boy but by Jimmy's.

Worst chicken gyros was still frozen when I told him he smiled honey mustard sauce was separated honey crystallized I would never eat at this place

Have been to this place many times over the years. Most recently was there on Friday September 2’nd . They gave me 4 slices of gyros on an $8.00 sandwich. Essentially they gave me half a sandwich. They also gave me a partially stale pita bread which was not heated or prepared correctly . The onions also seemed to be overly ripe or partially rotten . The owner had some sort of delusion that other places give him much less than he does which is totally false. I live in Greektown monster my life and they give twice as much or three times as much as what he does they also have fresh pita bread. I would stay clear of this place the employees are garbage, the portions are small, the small dining room is uncomfortable and not cleaned up very well.

Make sure to call ahead or else you may drive there and find out they are closed at 6:30pm on a Thursday for absolutely no reason. Not that they will answer the phone anyway or have a voicemail. Don’t waste your time here. Luckily, Stevo’s Grill is a couple blocks away. Go there instead for a gyro

Great service, great food! I believe Big Boy's has Chicago's best gyros. They have outstanding Italian beef, and all the staples, hot dogs, Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage and of course burgers. The Best Gyros on the planet!

This location is overpriced for amount of food $8.43 just sandwich. The older gentleman not sure if he's the owner but poor customer service. The overall demeanor vibe was not pleasant not welcoming at all.

This restaurant does not provide free water with your eat-in meal. You must pay for bottled water or buy another drink if you would like a beverage with your food.

Family-owned, casual spot. Delicious classic gyro - hot and fresh with a soft tortilla. Flavorful and juicy gyro meat. The inside was clean and well cared for. Friendly service. I will be back.

People were rude ! don't recommend! Food was very mid and it is better places ! I wouldn't recommend bad over all 1/10

The guy that runs this is awful. If he got hit by a bus, I wouldn't worry, he probably had it coming. The posted hours of operation mean nothing. The open sign could be turned on, the front door unlocked, the lights on inside, well into the posted hours of operation... and it's still not open according to him. There's nothing special about the food here. You can get this anywhere. Lane Tech is probably the only reason he hasn't gone out of business. When they say "support small businesses", they don't mean places with pieces of shhhht like the guy who runs this place.

Food is bad, service is bad, and employees are rude. Simple as that. I couldn't believe how overpriced everything seemed and wasn't surprised when plate after plate of food came out looking just as bland as the rest. Skip.

I am a gyro connoisseur. I have been all over this wretched city in search of a terrific gyro. Big Boys has the best on the north side. It was very close. Wrigleyville Dogs was my first gyro. It will always have a place in my heart. Big Boys has a place in my stomach. Come and enjoy the deliciousness of this fine establishment.

Hell to the no. I love little quaint dive-ish Greek places, but this hole-in-the-wall was freakin' awful. The main guy was bad-tempered and told us they were closing AFTER we ordered a couple large meals. I also loved his expression when I asked if they offered soda refills. He looked at me with a sourpuss and an arched eyebrow and replied, "refills?" The food was mediocre. Gyros meat is standard from one restaurant to the next, but here they slice it thinly which made the meat tough around the edges once its grilled. One and done.

I've never been here before this is going to be my first time and last time. I walked out because of how they treated this gentleman in front of me in line. He ordered an entire meal with all the side the dishes, like a platter. All he wanted was a glass of water. He kept asking for a glass of water and they wouldn't give it to him and then they canceled his transaction and made him leave. Then the giant dildo behind the counter started screaming at me when I said they just lost me as a customer as well for how they treated this man. This place does not deserve your business. The way they talked to both of us just now for over a glass of water. The man spent $13-$15 and they canceled his transaction because he wanted a glass of water. Then somebody's niece comes from the back screaming at me telling me I should go eat at a homeless shelter because that's where I belong! Enjoy going outta business you greasy Psychos! Place smelled weird anyway

Out running errands and decided we needed to pick up lunch. Popped in to the strip where Big Boy Gyros is - glad we did. Friendly greeting when I walked in - said I needed a moment to review my options - was told "No problem. Take your time" instead of the eye roll I sometimes get at a fast food place when I don't know their menu. While the thought of an Italian Beef was tempting - decided to keep it simple. Two gyros sandwiches - one fry and one onion ring. For a small amount more I could have included a drink - but opted not to as we were on our way home. Order took slightly longer than usual as there were three customers ahead of me and Big Boy is operating with a reduced staff; the owner who is taking orders and making drinks, and the line cook. Easier to social distance with only two people. Yes - they were wearing masks. Got our order - had to taste test a fry and an onion ring on the way home. Hubby said the fries were deliciously seasoned (which we think was Tony Cacheres Cajun mix). The onion rings are the real deal - not those diced onion bits you get at some places. These were tender and juicy Vidalia onions. So good. And the gyros? The pita was nicely grilled - not overdone. The lamb was freshly sliced from the spit. The tzatziki sauce was thick and flavorful. Nice slices of tomato and just enough onion. The sandwiches had a generous portion of lamb so that neither of us finished in one sitting. Stop in to Big Boy for a gyro or one of their other sandwiches - you'll be glad you did.

Good hot dogs at a good price. This place is less than a block away from my house, so I find myself there fairly often. The French fries are crinkle cut and tasty. Five stars simply for the owner and staff- they are so friendly! Awesome food, awesome staff!

Great food at a great price! Owners are super nice too. Feel like every town has a little greek place like this that does it all. These guys are great if youre in roscoe, I usually get the half chicken or gyro burger. Cant go wrong with these guys

The gyro I had was absolutely delicious, not greasy or too salty, but perfect. Tomatoes and onions were just right. Got this sandwich to go and they put the tzatziki sauce in a separate container and not in the sandwich. This was a great idea, I could control the amount on the sandwich as I ate it and not have it be too messy to eat. Staff was very friendly and professional. Atmosphere was good and they were busy.

Love this place! Best Greek salad around! Also love the gyro plate. One of our go to's.

Terrible customer service. Bad food. There's 3 places within a mile that are way better than this dump. Very prejudiced as well. Don't know how they're still in business

Used to love the place, but kicking it down a star for an incredibly poor customer service experience from the owner. My money is good elsewhere.

I am new to the neighborhood and drive by this place every day. Today I had a pregnancy craving for gyros and this hit the spot! The guys inside were so friendly and the gyro was the best I've had in chicago! Pretty sure I'll be eating here every week now

My favorite gyro place, it's always so clean fast and consistent, the owner is always here and so so nice! Gave my daughter a free desert and she was in heaven! Thank you Big boy gyros!

Great family owned restaurant...they got the best fries in Chicago n one of the best Italian beefs in Chicago!

You don't need much to make a good gyro but they mange to fail at that here. It was greasy and too salty. The tomatoes were old. Even the tzatziki tasted off. Also while they were perfectly nice to me they were quite rude to other customers who do not share my light complexion.

It's so sad because the food wasn't bad but people of color ( blacks) beware. So they don't have official restroom signs but my last experience at Big Boys was not only mine boggling but rather very insulting. I think someone needs to inform the owners and his employees that the last segregation of bathrooms ended in 1964. Both a white man and light-complected Hispanic woman both were allowed to use the non-official restroom in the back . However, when I asked if I could use the restroom-I denied access. My cousin and I both looked at each other realizing we just spent $40 in a racist establishment.

Save yourselves some time and do not eat here! There is plenty other options around. People are extremely rude and disrespectful.

If I could give it zero stars I would ... place is nasty and dirty .. outdated and employees was rude she sneezed and counting money no gloves the wipe his face and continue too grab food from the grill with hands my bun for burger and wasn't cook all the way food taste spoiled not sure if I'm going too get sick ... stay away from this establishment

I've seen this place in the neighborhood ever since I've been back in town. I've been craving a good gyros for quite awhile. This place is close to Lane Tech, right where there's tons of construction going on. I looked them up and found great reviews. When I found out they delivered, I decided to try it. This place is so good! The food was hot when it arrived, and it arrived quickly. The cheeseburger was fantastic. My mom rarely finishes any meal, but this cheeseburger, she didn't leave a crumb. She said it was the best she's ever had. The french fries were divine. Crunchy (not hard) on the outside and tasty on the inside. The Gyros, the flavor of the meet was so satisfying, the fresh tomatoes, onions and that special yummy sauce. I will definitely return soon. I'm so happy to have Big Boy's Gyros in the neighborhood. What a GEM!!!

Stopped in for dinner yesterday and it was delicious. I had the grilled skirt steak sandwich & my guy had his favorite gyro. Their french fries are crinkle cut & seasoned. I am a steak fry gal, but these crinkles are by far the best crinkles around. The lady behind the counter was very pleasant & the gent preparing our food is always friendly. I hope they open for breakfast again someday soon. These guys have been here for 25 years and the food is always solid & so are the people. I'll be back

I've been coming to this place for years. Good old fashion Chicago fast food never disappoints. Jim, the owner knew my dad for years and years before i was introduced. Ive been going there ever since i went to Lane Tech HS, across the street! Love how much Jim cares about his customers and the students he's served over the decades!

I've been eating at Big Boy Gyros for lunch for about 5 years and pretty much ordered the same meal a majority of the time, but today my order was apparently too difficult for the cashier to comprehend. I ordered a Gyro Combo with a side salad instead of fries, I was told they never do that even though I got that exact order the previous week. She then "explained" to me in a LOUD tone that they would NEVER do that since fries are $2 and salad is $4. Trying to remain calm and just get my lunch I agreed to pay the additional $2, but when she rung me up the total was $4 more. She lost it when I asked why she charged me $4...I don't have time to type all the insane things she yelled at me, but here's a few: -NO restaurant ever substitutes, I (being the cashier) eat out all the time -You clearly just don't want to pay My co-worker then said let's just go somewhere else and as we were leaving I stated that I would let everyone at my company down the street know how I was just treated. At this point the owner got involved by just saying, "That's not nice Lady" LOL Such a joke, what wasn't nice is the way I was treated from the beginning. Your cashier should probably get on the grill and not interact with customers because SHE doesn't have an ounce of people skills.

Mediocre gyros, awful people. Make your food and staff step up and be able to provide customers with a sense of comfort, in mind as well as mouth. On the wrong side of history.

I had a horrible experience here. I ordered super taco but they didn't have it on the menu on the wall. So I checked online and I was overcharged. Taco was $ 6.79 and online price is $5.19. So if you buy one order online or u will be overcharged.

Excellent food, great service! Wonderful spot to stop in for lunch. Amazing chicken Kabob plate and chicken phillys!

We enjoyed our gyros and crispy chicken. The workers were friendly. We liked the pictures on the wall too.

Pretty standard gyro and fries but fries were fresh and hot. Fair price and I didn't have any problem with rude staff. They were courteous and prompt. I think they probably deal with a lot of high schoolers so their tolerance might be a little low for shenanigans. Just as important for me...the place is spotless. The cooking area could not have been cleaner which I appreciate from a hot dog joint. Now that I know it's here I'll be back.

Customer service needs improvement, you want clients to be happy not make it seem like you're doing us a favor with allowing us to purchase food. Very macho type vibe here that made us uncomfortable. The food was mediocre at best.

Always good food and the restaurant is CLEAN. The owner takes pride in his business and always appreciates regulars. Lunch time during school days is busy since Lane Tech is right across the street, but this place handles it and it's fast. Frequent this place regularly as it is an asset to the neighborhood.

Worst Attitude, Not professional at All. I asked them about their breakfast options and with a mean look the guy quickly shut me up and said "oh we don't have None of that stuff just what see is what you get." I didn't even finish my question. Thats Not professional and Very reckless for new customers to be , but hey like Burger king says "Have it your way, and I did; Never to step foot in there again..

Food is pretty good as well as prices yet service is incredibly rude. As soon as I finished my last bite I was asked to leave. They yelled at people across counter and were roaming around the whole time lurking.

If I could give them zero stars I would. Staff was unnecessarily rude to my friends and I who were all paying customers. After we realized the service was terrible we asked for our money back before getting the food. They refused even though they do not specify they don't take refunds. We only ordered fries so its not like it was inconvenience to give us our money back. When we got our fries the order was measly and incompetent. When my friend took out small bowl of fruit the cashier, yelled " Girl! Girl! Girl!" and shook her head. We assume she meant put away the food but we can't be sure because of her lack of clear communication. This establishment clearly does value paying customers and therefore should not be supported.

Worst service I've ever had in my entire life. Rude, condescending, and hostile barely start to describe the people working here. I have given them the benefit of the doubt and have visited the restaurant on FOUR separate times just to be met by the same horrible lack of professionalism and overall kindness as the last.

I always see big boy and often get tickets by the speed camera right out side their location go 20MPH on school days or suffer the consequences. It was my first time eating at this establishment so I decided to try their signature dish THE GYROS PLATTER. I got take away per usual. Gyro was excellent. He had both long pieces and short fattys. The tiziki was spot on however I tend to stay away from dairy. Unfortunately by the time I got home the bag was completely wet and fell apart. The fries we soggy and not crispy like I prefer better luck next time I guess. I also had the pleasure of trying the steak sandwich let's just say it was the MVP of my meal the onions were perfectly grilled to where they didn't carmelize so the sandwich was not soggy.Perfectly grilled to medium well. Needless to say I will be back for the steak. This traditional Greek fare has done alright by me...

1st time at Big Boy Gyros, i tried the Gyro Burger & it's amazing. I definitely recommend Big Boy Gyros, definitely will be going back.

Generally when I think Big Boy, images of a fat little boy in a red checkered suit springs to mind and ugly memories of runny eggs and plastic cheese ensue...but I suppose that is another story altogether. This Big Boy? Pretty stellar for it's class. Firstly, this place is spic 'n span. Polished. For a diner/fast food joint, that's icing on the cake...I like to consume my food sans dirt, gunk, grime and grease caked linoleum. When possible, ya know. ;) The guy was splendid. I watched him dish out about 12 kiddie ice cream cones to the group in front of me, and you'd have thought it was the highlight of his day (and really, maybe it was...who knows?), but he was genuine. He really cared how I wanted my gyro...or at least faked it, and that's what counts... Cheap, fast, friendly, clean....and a parking lot. Best on weekends as the Lane Techers run it over during the week. Lotsa bang for da buck...

I went in while my car was getting fixed at lucas tire. I could have swore i smelled delicious fresh cut fries and tamales. My tamales were dehydrated. Nothing could have made it better. The fries were eh....with sprinkled on seasoning. all in all...I wouldn't go back.

I feel blessed I live only a block-and-a-half away from this place. I've been coming here since they opened back in the late 1990s. It's a fast-food place of the highest caliber. They have a rather large menu, the place is super clean, and the owner and staff (both the family members and non-family members), have always been most welcoming to me. The food is top-notch. The owner, Jimmy, takes pride in his place and makes sure that the food he serves is fresh and above the standards of most fast-food places. I, too, work in the food service industry and can tell quality product from cheap product, and let me tell you, BIG BOY GYROS is a stickler on quality. I've tried many of the menu items over the years, and have never once been disappointed. The ones I always come back to though, because they're just SO good, are the gyros, the double cheeseburger with everything (I like grilled onions on mine), and the Italian beef and sausage combo. Let me tell you, it isn't that easy to find a really good Italian beef/sausage combo. I've had some from Italian restaurants that are not as good as those at BIG BOY. I also like the hot dogs, which they will throw on the grill to char them if you ask them to. One thing that impressed me about the condiments on the "everything" dog was the onions. Most places put comparatively large pieces of onion on the dog, which are just way too crunchy and overpowering. The onions at BIG BOY are so finely chopped, you hardly know they're there... I mean, you do TASTE them, but you don't get hit over the head by them. BIG BOY also makes a darn good breakfast, things like pancakes with great taste and just the right texture, nice pieces of ham, and over-easy eggs made by people who know exactly how to do it right. Sorry for blabbing on and on, but I love this place.
