"Speckled with real fruit, the lychee shave ice at this Rolling Hills Estates cafe is a master class in texture. The result is a syrup that coats the ice like a delicious shag rug: a bit fuzzy against the tongue, yet sweet and refreshing in a way that’s pure summer." - Kat Hong

"Big Island Eats and Shave Ice serves some pretty decadent local treats out of a mall in Palos Verdes. Their menu offers everything from kalua pork to Spam musubi, but make sure to save some room for shave ice - all of the syrups here are made in-house, like lilikoi (passion fruit), guava, and a subtle, surprisingly fragrant sugarcane flavor, and are served with hard-to-find toppings like Melona bars and pieces of chi chi dango (mochiko). Could the ice be shaved a bit finer? Of course. But, much like our continued crush on Dev Patel despite his role in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, it’s by no means a deal-breaker." - kat hong

We had a graduation celebration and Nani put together a custom menu for us. She gave us a huge selection of items to choose from. Everything was delicious! She is very flexible and willing to work with your needs. We ordered the Quinoa Feta Cranberry Salad with her famous sweet onion dressing, Spicy Tuna Parfaits(tuna was very fresh), Apricot Chili Chicken Brie puff pastry, Guava Chicken Sliders, Balsamic Shoyu Rib Eye Steak sliced. I highly recommend her for all your needs! She can make a variety of foods to more than meet your needs!

Ordered a 2 item combo, shaved ice, and spam masubi. Combo was pretty good portion, taste, and good price. The pulled pork and chicken were really good. The ice cream and shaved ice was pretty tasty as well. I was disappointed with two things, the spam masubi and service. Spam masubi was $6 for two pieces, they were big but mostly rice, see picture. There was a tiny slice of spam in the masubi which made me not want to buy again. The service was not so pleasant. I asked the young lady for hot sauce and she seemed annoyed by my request and had poor attitude. I needed an extra set of utensils and napkins but after the short exchange about the hot sauce I had with her I didn't want to interact with her again. Maybe next time someone else will have better attitude towards simple customer requests. Food, good. Service/attitude, need improvement.

The food here was good and the hostess was very friendly. As of this posting there is only "to go" orders, but there is a seating area out front. I tried ordering over the phone, but couldn't get through for over 20 minutes....so decided to just go and order in person. Be prepared to wait in line a while (I was able to see that one member of their staff was taking phone orders back to back to back). This may be my one criticism...that they need more help....but let the record show, they are busy because it's good! Our first visit and we weren't disappointed. We did the Loco Moco (large portions) and it was good. But the desserts! The Kona coffee chocolate chunk cookie is the bomb! And although it was a first for me...the butter baked mochi brulee was a quick favorite! It was too much food to try the chocolate banana bread on this trip....but you can bet we'll be back for it and other items on the menu!

Nani is wonderful and all the food at Big Island Eats is delicious. We had a celebration for my son's 1st birthday party. Nani helped us create a spread that everyone loved and couldn't stop talking about. The guava chicken is always my favorite. A great little gem on the hill.

🇺🇸 USA (Hawai'i) Excerpt from Eat the World Los Angeles: Just like reaching for the most colorful candy in the checkout lane of the grocery, the LavaLava ($5.99) stood out from the top of the list like a shiny object. The filtered ice is topped with sugarcane and coconut syrups, then a nice molten flow of dark chocolate and strawberry syrup. A big scoop of vanilla ice cream rests on the top and chips of hard chocolate surround it all. It easily succeeded in making a hot weather visit get on the to do list.

Google
I really wanted to enjoy this food. Aside from getting my initial order wrong, the food was bland and unexciting. The macaroni side was a simple mayo mixed with macaroni and nothing else. The Slipsidah sandwich was drenched in an excessive amount of sauce to the point where it was nearly inedible. The apricot sauce made the guava chicken tasty, but the portions were tough and chewy thigh meat which made me want to gag at times. The noodles had a funny smell and taste. The masubi was palatable, but none of the toppings were inventive or noteworthy (for example the big island crunch was ground down furikake and flavorless). I would not return and, although I love supporting local, I can’t justify spending my hard earned money to back this establishment.

Google
Nice vibe, good food and shave ice. Second visit had the spicy chicken sandwich with the shoyu mayo, huge and delicious. Shave ice is good, and we all enjoy the shave ice shakes.

Yelp
I can't thank everyone enough for the amazing service, delicous and healthy food, and perfect location! My favorite is their homemade baked goods and their Combo plate 2 Guava Chicken Katsu and Ginger Tare Beef It's a gem!

Sean F.

Yelp
This review is strictly based on the 3 items that purchased. Will be back try main dishes and shave ice. First up: the spam musubi. Holy moly, it was HUGE! But talk about a flavor letdown. Thank goodness for that teriyaki sauce, or it would've been drier than the Sahara! Now, onto the butter mochi. The taste? Pretty darn good. That charred crème brûlée topping? GOOD! But hold up - the mochi itself? Old and dense as a brick. What a disappointment! Last but not least, that lychee drink. Refreshing? You bet! But cream? More like a Whisper!

Yelp
They knocked it out of the park AGAIN! I ordered just a side of chicken, and it's amazing. I love this place.

PleaseUpvote X.

Yelp
Multiple tables were sticky and unwiped from previous customers. Seat cushions in same condition and filthy. Completely overpriced for what they give you. Drinks are over $5 for basically a cup full of ice and a few ounces of actual soda. I asked for a refill on soda which would cost them a few cents. They said no to that as well. No refund. Nothing offered but a shrug. Do not go here. Let this business close and be replaced by something far better at the Promenade.

Lanea Hiromi S.

Yelp
First off - Their shave ice is extremely good. The ice is perfectly soft textured and if you get it as a milkshake, the cream and shave ice flavors are perfect! That being said, the food my boyfriend and I tried today was not good at all. Tofu musubi had no flavor and the big island crunch is just furikake. The rice I believe wasn't cooled long enough after cooking or was overdone because it was mushy. The mac salad has no carrots or other veggies and tastes like nothing. No vinegar or taste of the mayo. It just tastes like wet noodles unfortunately. My boyfriend was happy with the crunch of the chicken sandwich (lipslidah) but he couldn't finish it because the oil I believe may have been old (smelled like crayons). All in all, maybe willing to try their other food items, but the shave ice might be the only thing we get from here for a bit.

Yelp
The wait time at Good Stuff was too long today for lunch so we decided to try Big Island instead. We ordered a guava chicken plate lunch that came with rice and Mac salad and dressing on top of coleslaw, spam musubi, and a Chinese chicken salad with lemon vinaigrette on the side. The spam musubi were weirdly wrapped but tasty overall, although they offered them with sauce which was confusing to me (having grown up in Hawaii I've many a spam musubi and never have they come with sauce). The guava chicken was moist but the rice was not short grain rice but maybe more like old Ben's rice which was also strange. The Mac salad was pretty tasteless - and the coleslaw was raw shredded cabbage with a dressing on top. The chicken salad was fresh romaine lettuce with a handful of thin slices of chicken breast - and some red onions and sliced almonds. The dressing was mostly oil and not very tasty - but I did finish the entire salad. It's perhaps not fair to compare this plate lunch place to those in Hawaii - but I'll look forward to having a real plate lunch in Honolulu.

Yelp
The good: I had the 3 protein combo with macaroni salad and rice (comes with 2 sauces/seasonings) and the spicy slider with chicken katsu meat. The protein combo had a LOT of meat. My husband and I couldn't finish it. I got a strawberry cream soda and thought it was delicious. I liked the spicy slider sauce and slaw. I also tried the pineapple, passionfruit and smoked cherry shave ice with condensed milk. The interior is small but there are about 4 tables inside and some outdoor seating as well. Inside, they have Post-it notes and pens where you can draw some art and post it on their wall. The bad: The smoky cherry flavor tasted like artificial cherry medicine flavor. My husband liked it more than I did. I thought the shaved ice was a little bit too doused with syrup. Our cream soda drink was mostly ice. The katsu batter wasn't evenly golden. It was a bit chunky and thick. The Portuguese sausage was salty. I would've liked if the slaw and spicy sauce were separate in the sandwich rather than the slaw be tossed in the sauce (so that the slaw could stay crunchier). The shave ice was smaller than I expected and didn't taste as great as other shave ice places I've had. The interesting: They're very generous with napkins. The interior is a bit dim.

Yelp
Came here for late lunch and got a shave ice (pineapple & lychee) and a #2 combo w/ the guava chicken & shredded pork. Portions were very hearty, and both were delicious. The main food was so filling, and I especially liked the chicken. Both the macaroni side and the noodles base were a bit on the bland side, but rice was good once it soaked up all the sauces. The shave ice was delicious and so refreshing. Service is friendly and fast, and there are some tables both inside and outside. The containers are aggressively eco-friendly lol - you have to eat up the shave ice quickly before your paper bowl dissolves. But would come here again!

Yelp
Stopped by after visiting Palos Verdes today. Small restaurant located in a shopping mall, but big flavor! We're not from the area so of course we wanted to try everything while we were there. Ordered the musubis (comes with 2, & they're huge) you get to choose your own protein the hubby selected Portuguese sausage and Kalua pork. He couldn't get over how flavorful the pork was. I had the combo plate with the guava chicken katsu. The portion of chicken was huge, it was dark meat and perfectly fried outside and juicy inside. Came on a bed of rice and fried noodles with a side of Mac salad and coleslaw. I opted for the apricot chili and the ginger taru sauce. Amazing flavor. I will say the sides were just ok. The Mac salad was bland and the sauce on the coleslaw was overpowering. Other than that little blunder everything else was perfection. We ordered the Nikki sunrise shave ice shake (#2 popular) Tasted like a tropical paradise. The shave ice was topped with a generous helping of vanilla ice cream which mixed well with the ice and juices. Had to also try the butter mochi as per others' recommendation. The cashier even asked our preference on the mochi (middle piece, side piece, or corner piece). We chose a side piece which was a perfect balance of chewy and delicious. For under 40 bucks we got an amazing meal & dessert which tasted better than any restaurant we could have visited for over double the price. Worth a stop if you're in the area!!

Yelp
I'd heard of a Hawaiian restaurant that opened up in Palos Verdes, and I'd heard good things about it, so I decided to grab lunch after hiking. I opted for the combo with guava chicken, rice, salad, and garlic noodles. Service was friendly and quick, and I got to enjoy it outside on the Promenade. The good: the guava chicken. Charbroiled, yet tender and not dry at all. There was a subtle sweetness to it, and given I love guava, it paired very well with the savory chicken. The bad: the rice and noodles. I opted for noodles as one of the side dishes, and unfortunately, they were not good. They were rubbery, soggy and utterly tasteless; as much as I love noodles, I could not finish those noodles given how bad they tasted. The rice was also a miss: so mushy that there was absolutely no texture to it. I ended up eating the guava chicken by itself before tossing the rest. Overall, I felt my meal at Big Island Eats was a miss, but maybe it was the combo I got. I figure I must've gone on an off day, so I'd be keen on returning to trying other dishes out!

Yelp
Love this place!! Best hawaiian place in the area. Highly recommend the brûlée butter mochi and the shaved ice is amazing! Workers are kind. Only con is there are no public restrooms!

Yelp
Our first time here. Very friendly staff and great portion size. We all had different kinds of desserts. All so delicious! Can't wait for our next visit!

Miranda S.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I was honestly a little disappointed. The shaved ice was good but they didn't offer lids for the bowl and seemed very confused when I asked for another bowl to place on top to cover it. The shake was decent but the guava and strawberry syrup weren't very flavorful. We ordered spam musubi and the rice was so mushy it was hard to eat. Maybe it was just an off day, as the people seemed newer, but not sure I will be back to try again.

Josephine C.

Yelp
My sister seen it was mentioned on ABCLA local news so my brother drove my sister and I to this Hawaiian eatery on a Sunday afternoon in late May. It is located in a hilly shopping center across from target shooing center. After parking, we found the hidden gem next to another restaurant. Inside is very small with 2 tables and outdoor seating. The owner seems nice and friendly. The menu was posted on the door and at the counter. I ordered guava chicken thighs with rice and macaroni salad. We didn't wait too long. The guava chicken had good aroma and moist drenched in guava sauce. The macaroni salad taste good with cabbage salad. My sister ordered garlic fried rice on the side and that was tasty with pieces of Portuguese sausage, eggs, green onions, and garlic. I think it needs more garlic. Everything taste very good.

Verl F.

Yelp
We did take out. It's a very small place only had about 2 tables Service was fine very cordial Food was great very tasty!

Jason C.

Yelp
Best Hawaiian food in the South Bay and that's saying something! The guava chicken was so good that even though you can share it because it's a large portion, you'll want to get your own so that you have leftovers.

Yelp
My family loves the combo plates here. The guava chicken with the garlic aioli is our favorite. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
So I have been to Hawaii a couple of times and this is not like any Hawaiian I have ever had. Ono is a thousand times better than this. Tried the ginger chicken platter and don tried loco bowl. His bowl was sooo salty, probably because they put seaweed dust all on top. The fish smell was so much that we took home to try and wipe off to finish it. My chicken was ok. To much ginger. Rice was good. Macaroni not like Hawaiian, Cole slaw was the slaw with mayo poured ontop. At least that's what it tasted like. I at the chicken and rice and threw the rest away. Son couldn't finish his either even after bringing home. What we think is that they have made this "Hawaiian food" more like Korean style Hawaiian food. Was hoping for a close place for Hawaiian food. Only gave it one more star than one because our friend had told us about the place and he really liked the tufu. It looked better on menu.

Nina W.

Yelp
I love this place, I've been here twice. It really is a mom and pop shop kind of tucked away but the food won't disappoint. The only thing I would stay away from is the spam Katsu, which is basically just fried spam. It wasn't that good. The top 3 proteins I recommend are: beef, Kalua pork and guava chicken (in that order). The beef is super tender and flavorful. Once combo order is enough to feed 2 people. We also got their shaved ice which is really good. When you order make sure you pick the syrups that are homemade because it's super unique. They have outdoor seating which is dog friendly. Lots of parking in the mall structure. Highly recommend!

Samantha T.

Yelp
This place is so fun!! I wish it was in a more convenient location and not so hidden, but the shaved ice was so good and i crave it all the time. So many options for food too! I really enjoyed the noodles. Hoping they open more locations in the city

Zach H.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing! Prices are low for what you get. I was amazed with the quality, portion size, and with how fast items came out. The spam katsu was delicious! It was perfectly cooked with a nice crunchy crust and moist interior, paired with a rich and slightly spicy sauce. I recommend ordering the shave ice at the end of your meal - the portions are generous and the flavors and texture will not disappoint. I normally don't leave reviews at places, but my experience at B.I.E. was so nice I had to. The staff are warm and welcoming, and the ambiance is family friendly. I highly recommend paying B.I.E. a visit if you're in or near Palos Verdes!

Brian S.

Yelp
Stopped by for delicious shave ice. Guava/ illikoi did not disappoint! Also had the Portugués sausage fried rice and it was OMG fresh and yummy! Its enough for two people. Service was fast and friendly! Give it a try!

Lori N.

Yelp
New to this area and was looking for tasty treat. The food was onolicous. Really tasty. We had the garlic fried rice with Portuguese sausage - delicious. Guava chicken plate also very good. Big sumo-sized portions. We also tried their shave shakes. Super yummy. Tried pina colada and sunset shake. There are lots of Hawaiian food in the South Bay, but this is very good. The place has the spirit of Ohana. We will definitely be back.

Jessica Y.

Yelp
The store is located at the promenade. There is a parking structure with plenty of parking. I tried the spam masubi (each order comes with 2), the lava lava and shaved ice (pineapple coconut ice cream on bottom and coconut syrup and smoke cherry syrup). The lava lava had a bit too much going on for me but loved the shaved ice. Only thing is I would change the smoke cherry to something else next time. It was a bit too smoky flavored to me but the staff did warn me. The masubi was also tasty. Friendly staff. Speedy service. Good food.

Stacy S.

Yelp
This place is full on legit! I was pleasantly surprised to find a local Hawaiian eatery at the Promenade on the Peninsula shopping center in Rolling Hills Estates. They're located on the ground level with plenty of parking. Whenever I try a new Hawaiian eatery, I always order their loco moco. That dish alone will tell me how legit the restaurant is. The loco moco patty, made of 100% angus beef, was thick and flavorful, sitting on a bed of hot rice with dark gravy all over! We all know it's about the gravy, and theirs is very flavorful! The two fried eggs on top were covered with Big Island Crunch (furikake) which made it extra flavorful. For $12, it was a very reasonably priced dish. For dessert, I got the baked butter mochi (creme Brulee style), Big Island Choco Cookie and the signature Choco Banana Bread. All three items were outstanding and definitely satisfied my sweet tooth! Seating was not available inside, but there's plenty of tables outside in the open shopping plaza. Service was friendly and full of aloha! If you love Hawaiian food and happen to be in the area, definitely check them out!

Amy M.

Yelp
We used Big Island Eats to cater a party for 30 people. I asked Nani for suggestions and she gave me several options. We decided on Spicy Tuna Parfait, Garlic Seared Hamachi sushi bites, Guava chicken skewers, BBQ Kalua pork sliders w/tempura onions, tofu katsu bites with two sauces and Quinoa Cranberry and Feta salad with her signature sweet onion dressing. I wanted a Hawaiian themed menu but she can do many other types of food. Everything was delicious and my guests all raved about the food. I highly recommend Big Island eats for both everyday meals and your party food. The food is always fresh and seasoned perfectly. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable.

Sherman T.

Yelp
Nice shaved ice Lots of outdoor sitting Fun atmosphere Feel like Hawaii feeling Nice menu and selection

Cheryl T.

Yelp
If you want legit Hawaiian food outside of Hawaii, you need to go here! The name of this restaurant is what drew me in. Been going to the big island for many many years, and I can say this place serves up true Aloha. Ordered the guava chicken, which was perfectly cooked. The sauce wasn't overly sweet despite it's name. My daughter ordered the garlic fried rice with Kalua pork and wowwwwww so ono!! Also ordered the spam musubi which are literally the size of baby burritos. The mac salad that came with our combo plates was perfect. My kids absolutely loved it. My only regret is that we didn't get the shave ice because we were so full and it was a bit chilly that day. I did see what it looked like, and it looked exactly like the shave ice I would eat in Waikoloa. Do not miss out on this place! Will gladly drive over an hour for this food!

Annette L.

Yelp
I don't usually leave reviews but I have to specifically for this place to further stray away from the scary thought that it might close due to whatever circumstance. I have never had a more delicious drink/concoction than the Kei's Lani. It is literally the most perfect thing I have ever tried. How do they manage to delicately meld together the ice cream texture and shaved ice texture with lilikoi and guava flavors? It's amazing. Their garlic fried rice is also phenomenal, a taste that is hard to find in Torrance. The cherry on top is their butter mochi with bruleed top. (Also, they have my favorite sauces like cilantro jalapeño). They fill in every aspect that I more or less find absent in other restaurants around here. Please don't ever close

Michelle L.

Yelp
Big Island Eats and Shave Ice is a hidden gem located in the Promenade Mall in RHE. This Hawaiian food spot definitely knows how to bring the flavors of the islands to the mainland. I've used their catering services several times now, and their Ohana Platter is hands down my favorite. It comes with a generous portion of guava chicken, kalua pork, and ginger tare beef, as well as rice, noodles, salads, and an array of wonderful sauces. The combination of these flavors is simply out of this world! The staff at Big Island Eats and Shave Ice is always welcoming and friendly, I really appreciate the attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients used in their dishes. I highly recommend Big Island Eats and Shave Ice to anyone who loves Hawaiian food, or is looking for something new and delicious to try. Don't hesitate to check them out!

Ryan H.

Yelp
Food here is okay, but the dessert is the star. Ordered their guava chicken and it was okay tbh, not the most moist but not extremely dry. Also go the katsu spam musubi. It was delicious but just too much rice! Similar to like a burrito you gotta get through the first few bites before you get to the good stuff! The double rainbow was delicious! A bit sour and sweet and the ice was very smooth! Would 100% order again.

Skl M.

Yelp
Food is always Great! We always get a combo plate with Mac salad, shredded cabbage salad, stir fry noodles with onions, guava chicken, Kalua pork, and extra guava sauce. Service is always Great and quick!

Andrew L.

Yelp
Delicious shaved ice, loco moco, and garlic fried rice. Family run. Made everything from scratch. The shaved ice was sooooo soft. The garlic fried rice was very garlic forward. And, the loco moco had plenty of delicious gravy. Will be back!

Carly I.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. I saw this place on ABC news for places to eat in So Cal. The guava chicken was tasty and the guava sauce topped it off. The serving size is huge! I bought the three item combo in order to try everything. The shave ice was so soft and fine like powered snow. The flavors were homemade. Strawberry flavor and the coconut syrup with snow cap. Ono! I support local businesses and highly recommend this great place..

Emma G.

Yelp
The food is decent, but I wouldn't come back. The mango chicken and guava katsu lacked in flavor. The beef had even less flavor and would be improved with seared edges for depth. The guava, onion, and teriyaki sauces were certainly needed. The salad and noodles were mediocre. Wanted the shave ice but the cashier refused to answer my question so I declined ordering. Overall I want this local business to succeed. But with so many other Hawaiian food places ten minutes away we shall see how it survives. Since the owners family is from Hawaii I expected more-- the recipes just aren't there. Located inside the mall near Good Stuff. Structure parking. Crafts and rock art table to entertain the keiki. Average meal and experience = 2.5/5

Gladys G.

Yelp
I love this place so much! I mainly order my combo plate with either grilled tofu or katsu tofu with Cilantro and Apricot chili sauce. So bomb! Mouth watering as I write, flavors combine perfect. The staff is always welcoming and so friendly. Whether I eat in or take out the food is always great and tastes fresh.

Emily S.

Yelp
It's nice to have some variety in the PV mall. As you can see, their portions are huge and you really get the bang for your buck. I would recommend getting your sauces on the side so you can easily heat up your leftovers. I opted to get the salad and stir fried noodles as my two bases in an attempt to ward off a food coma. The chicken is juicy and well seasoned. All in all, a great spot!

Mendel Y.

Yelp
This restaurant is a great example of why I love Yelp so much. There is no way I would ever have found this gem without this site and why I dedicate so much time and effort to write the reviews that I do. This place is another five star place to me. To put it simply and for the TLDR readers, the food is amazing, the prices are fair and the service is far beyond expectations. I will start with the worst part about this place, the location. This "mall" or shopping center is literally a ghost town. It is complicated and the stairs are hidden from view. Big Island is on the 1st floor and in the corner of this odd collection of barren spaces. As mentioned, the food is simply amazing. It's not just the manner in which it is cooked but the unique flavors that come through from the care and interest in preparing something unique for their customers. We had guava chicken, kalua pig, guava chicken katsu and beef. The guava sauce has so much depth with not too much sweetness or overly salty. I wish I would have had it on the chicken rather than on the side. Went back and had the shave ice and that alone is a reason to come here. I have had hundreds of servings of shave ice from Hawaii, Wailoa, Matsumoto, all the greats from back in the day. This Big Island shave ice is by far the best I have had in the states and the syrup is completely different than anything I have ever encountered. Made in house, the flavor just explodes when it hits your mouth. I was lucky enough to have strawberry and lilikoi (passion fruit) and was shocked at how good it was. Went back inside again, (yes, three times) and tried the chocolate, banana bread. This was not as great as the other items, but still pretty damn great. I would absolutely come back, even though it is a solid 40 min away it was well worth it for the shaved ice alone.

Yelp
Okay okay. My last review still stands however we came back to try more of their menu and desserts and I'm fully impressed. So I gotta bump my rating up to 5 stars. We got the guava chicken combo again with noodles. Still one of our faves. We also tried some other items as well. Menuhune Fries w Ginger Tare Beef (5): Pleasantly surprised! The fries were thin and crispy. The beef had fantastic flavor and was super tender. We got the sauces on the side and was most impressed with the garlic aioli. So good! Lava Lava shave ice (5): holy chocolate! This was amazing! Just a perfect blend of shave ice, ice cream, chocolate, and strawberry flavors! Must try! Kei's Lani shave shake (5): not as sweet as the lava lava so eat this first or that lava lava will overpower the nice subtle flavors. This was still really good. I'm thoroughly convinced now that you can't go wrong with any of their shave ice offerings. Just super solid all the way through. I don't even think I've had shave ice this good on the islands. Everything starts with their super soft ice and then they just have the best flavors and juice. Solid joint and quickly our favorite Hawaiian spot. Great work! We'll see you again soon!

Yelp
I don't write many reviews but I am trying to save as many innocent people as I can. As someone who grew up in Hawaii, this is the worst attempt at Hawaiian style plate lunch food I have ever had. The noodles are straight out of a $2 ramen pack. The rice way overcooked. The protein options were clearly an attempt to go cheap. I am sure they have awesome desserts and shave ice. But please save yourself and do not eat the food here. It's not only embarassing but gave my girlfriend and I a stomach ache for the rest of the day.

Yelp
The promenade has all but become a ghost town of a mall. That doesn't mean there aren't hidden gems tucked away in it though. Big Island Eats is one such gem in PV, and that's saying a lot cause PV's gems are found in nature and hikes and views, not food. Anyway, Hawaiian food is always a good experience so go ham on their beef, kalua pork, loco moco, so on and so forth. The portions aren't gonna be ungodly crazy like Torrance's L&L but this is definitely a mom and pop shop so they nailed the homey comfort food down. Not much in terms of seating but they package everything in a nice takeout fashion so order, eat outside, and be merry. Or you can take it home, either or. Regardless, you got some big island flavor coming your way.

Yelp
Good food, good Shave ice, NOT thrilled with inability to do cash transactions! Would not give change back! So that's unacceptable!

Yelp
Total hidden gem. Especially from someone who used to live in Hawaii, this place was just nostalgia and full of goodness! Portions are big, especially for a small eater. Guava chicken was like home and the Ripslidah was juicy and so ono. Easily became a family favorite. Love that they give the option of spicy levels so kids can eat it too. Ginger rare beef was also superb with the right amount of ginger. We only tried food since the portions were so big to eat any dessert but can't wait to try the shave ice next time!

Yelp
2 stars for the food 4 stars for the shave ice. I may have overhyped myself when I saw this place's menu. Recently took a visit here and ordered the 2 protein, 2 base, and 2 sauce combo plate with guava chicken katsu and ginger tare beef, noodles, white rice, cilantro-jalapeno sauce, and furikake. The portion size for the beef and katsu were disproportionate as my chicken katsu represented 2/3 of the protein and ginger beef was the remaining amount. Macaroni salad is decent, but could use other ingredients in it for crunch such as carrots or celery. Same can be said about the stir fry noodles. The noodles were underwhelming since the were underseasoned and lacked any vegetable-type crunch. The saving grace of the meal was the peanut butter mochi and the shave ice. The shave ice had a texture that is representative of shave ice in Hawaii. It has that softness and melt in your mouth feel. The fruit syrup is what won me over. I ordered the guava and mango shave ice and the fruit syrup looks like it was made from actual fruit instead of being purely processed with fruit flavoring.

Yelp
Decided to try this place out, since we were in the area for a movie. Wasn't disappointed with it at all aside from receiving Tofu Katsu, when I had ordered Spam Katsu. Their portion sizes were definitely a Local Size Serving.. but their Guava Chicken was probably the best thing we ordered. Afterwards we order one of their New Dessert Items.. which turned out to be very delicious. Could've used more Strawberry Syrup on top, but nonetheless it was amazing.

Yelp
Wow! Can't believe we've never stopped by here before. It's a small joint, but there's plenty of seating outside. A definitely must-try and what Rolling Hills was missing.

Yelp
A no frills interior, but consistently good food and great service is what I've experienced here on every visit. Their guava chicken is really good and not overpriced.

Yelp
I haven't gotten a meal here yet, but I love the desserts! I tried the mochi cake, Choco banana bread, Kona affogato which were good! I would get the choco banana bread and mochi cake again in a heart beat!!! I wouldn't recommend getting the Kona affogato to go! They gave a cover to go on top... but it was such a pain to get it on since the cup was so full. I spilled all over my hands and the table trying to get the cover on. Super messy !
