"Big Mama's BBQ is a little outdoor barbecue spot on 79th Street that serves a mix of things like fried chicken, cheeseburgers, and pulled pork. It’s all solid enough to make a trip here when you’re craving a big plate of ribs, but Big Mama's sides are even better than the entrees—especially the Cajun fried okra, savory BBQ beans, and sweet cornbread. This place is pretty much just a to-go window, but they also have a fenced-in patio where you can sit down and eat on a barrel that’s been MacGyver-ed into a little table. "Cajun Fried Okra I’ve been driving by Big Mama’s BBQ for a couple months now, and every time I pass the little outdoor barbecue spot on 79th Street, I make a mental note to order from them. This week, one of those notes finally stuck, and I got some ribs, cornbread, mac and cheese, and Cajun fried okra. The ribs were good, but the sides were even better - especially the Cajun fried okra. The little nuggets of golden brown okra are crispy, well seasoned, and taste good dipped in the sweet barbecue sauce - or all by themselves." - Ryan Pfeffer, Carlos C Olaechea
"Big Mama's BBQ is a little outdoor barbecue spot on 79th Street that serves a mix of things like ribs, fried chicken, cheeseburgers, and pulled pork. We've tried the ribs and the burger here - and both were pretty good. The ribs are St. Louis style, with a very sweet barbecue sauce, and as long as you don't let the burger sit too long and get soggy, it's tasty. But Big Mama's sides are even better than the entrees - especially the Cajun fried okra. "Temporarily shuttered restaurants got to work making food for those in need, including out-of-work hospitality workers, plans that continue today. Groups like Food Rescue US-Miami, a volunteer organization that collected leftover food from major events to distribute to the hungry, changed things up to work with local restaurants like Chef Creole, Rosie’s Pop-up, Kush by Stephen’s Deli, Cafe La Trova and Big Mama’s BBQ, to feed the neighborhood and keep restaurants making food." - Olee Fowler
