Hi Big Penny Social,
I just wanted to share some honest feedback about the recent Aperol Beach Party — unfortunately, it ended up being a real letdown.
The event didn’t open until 6:30pm, half an hour late. When we finally got in, there was no ice available for the first hour, so the complimentary Aperol drinks couldn’t be served. Instead, we purchased warm lemonade. Even more frustrating, the beach bar was charging £7.50 for two small 150ml cans of the warm lemonade — about half a pint. Later on, we were able to get two full pints with ice for £7.40 inside the venue. Why such a huge difference in price and quality?
We had to return those pints, too, because they tasted like water — though, to be fair, they were replaced without fuss.
The entertainment didn’t match what was advertised either. The DJ started much later than expected, and the music at the start was awful indie — not the soulful house, soul, and funk that was promised. The decent music kicked in gone 7pm, and even then the sound was distorted through the speakers. Overall, it didn’t deliver what was promoted.
I usually really enjoy this venue, but this event felt chaotic and disorganised. The one saving grace was we met some lovely people on the night but unfortunately virtually no atmosphere there. But I genuinely can’t understand how things went so wrong.
I’m coming along to one of your comedy nights soon and really hope it’s better run.
If this is the standard for events, it’s no surprise there were so few people there — maybe around 50? It’s such an amazing space with real potential. I’ve worked with clubs and venues for decades, and honestly, this place deserves better promoters and entertainment managers to do it justice.
