"Big Shakes is gimmicky, but if you can look past mediocre sour cream-loaded hot chicken tacos, there’s a really good sandwich to be had here. Their Hot Mess comes with ghost pepper mayo, crisp pickles and slaw, and a hunk of thigh. If you even have the slightest desire to add on cheese, do it. The spice levels don’t reach Prince’s or Bolton’s heights (and neither does the quality of the tenders), but it’s where you can scratch your hot chicken itch if you’re in the Gulch or Franklin. There’s a lot of room to spread out in their Nashville proper location, with big booths and plenty of tables. There are also videos of the chef and founder making hot chicken for Rachel Ray replaying on the TV, in case you need some entertainment." - Jackie Gutierrez Jones 2, Carlo Mantuano

4 stars only because my husband didn't like his cheesy chicken sandwich. I had the shrimp & fish platter with greens and fries, and it was FABULOUS!! The lady at the counter was less than enthused to wait on us, but I loved our food and the music. We will be back 😋

I'm very happy to see Big Shake's open a store in a busy area of Nashville. Their hot chicken is easily the most underrated in the Middle Tennessee area. As with the other Big Shake's I've reviewed, this new location in The Gulch serves up delicious food in good portions at a reasonable cost. I went with the hot chicken tacos (my usual order) in stop drop n roll with the jalapeno crème fraiche. The seasoning for their fries is outstanding, so I always order extra. For whatever reason my phone's camera isn't doing the tacos justice, but they're superb. The Gulch location is bigger than their other stores, and it's a good thing. They were fairly busy when I went to grab my pickup order. The wait time was a little longer than anticipated, but nothing egregious. There's a patio with nice overhead lighting that's welcoming. The interior dining area is spacious with seating for plenty of customers, and it would seem there's even a bar where patrons can be served beer, but that appears to still be in need of finishing touches. Overall, Big Shake's is my go-to for the best Nashville hot chicken, and their newest store doesn't disappoint. Once again, well done Chef Big Shake and co.

Always fresh, hot & Juicy Chicken! The spice levels are a good spread & all are deliciously flavored. The fries are well seasoned. The fried pies are a nice treat. Very rich dough that was flakey. The fillings are nice even if only basic. I'd like to see them explore more interesting flavors.

Dropped in during their soft opening and WOW! We are Nashville locals, so have tried most of the hot chicken places and this is my favorite. Simple menu with really flavorful hot chicken. Beats Hattie B’s chicken (sorry- I said it) and I can’t wait to come back and try the fish!

I love these guys when they're on their game. Honestly, I was familiar with them from another town and have been surprised to learn after moving to Nashville that they still hold up against the Nashville Kings and Queens. I feel that the heat levels can be a little inconsistent. I order executioner, and sometimes it's not as hot as other days. Sometimes they forget to spice it entirely, still great, though. Prices are a little high, but everything is crazy high in the north gulch/capitol view area.

Make sure you check your food before leaving with takeout. Was given beans instead of Mac & Cheese (devastating). Also, the cornbread was super burnt. Slow service and messed up food orders (when not even busy)… overall a disappointment.

A decent chicken place but this ain’t no hot chicken place like the other locals. Mentally prepare yourself orelse you will be disappointed like me. The Collard greens side with the hot chicken taco was decent !

Here on a Thursday. Door and Google say open through 9 pm. Was told that they were closing at 8:30 when we got here at 7:56, by a girl at the register, and our food then was brought in to-go containers to an inside booth. Saw between the lines and ate outside. We saw 7 people turned away at 8:12. We did not get offered any dipping sauce and half of our sides were not delivered. Coming from out of town, I’m so disappointed to be lied to and cheated by this place. Would NOT recommend. On the bright side - the food we got was good (even without any sauces) and we didn’t arrive 5 minutes later or else we might’ve been really hungry. Time when lights off: 8:25 pm.
