Mexican seafood, tacos, margaritas & whiskey in a lively spot

"The Wicker Park location of Big Star has a perfect patio for people—it’s large and you can sit out there for hours eating tacos and drinking margaritas. But this place is ideal for dogs too, which is why you’re bound to see a lot of them here. Just be aware that if your pup is skittish, the nearby train tracks might trigger some Cruella de Vil flashbacks." - adrian kane
"A cash only bar serving up kick-ass tacos! Big Star has amazing outdoor seating for a summer night out with friends. You may have to wait to get a seat, but it's worth the while!" - Anna Zajac

"The most-visited patio in town needs little introduction. Come early (dogs are welcome) or expect to wait a while, as the line is sometimes hours long. Those who tough it out are rewarded with tacos, margaritas, whisky, and a prime spot for people watching. There’s another Big Star at Hotel Zachary across from Wrigley Field, while the seafood-focused Big Star Mariscos is in West Town. Online ordering is available." - Naomi Waxman

"Patio destination Big Star has featured a classic margarita (tequila, Marie Brizard Curacao, Gran Gala orange liqueur, lime juice) on its menu since 2009. It’s available by the glass or pitcher. The company also offers a canned version for sale at Binny’s and some Whole Foods locations. There are locations in Wrigleyville, Wicker Park, and West Town." - Sam Nelson
"Big Star is another restaurant that’s right across from the stadium, on the same block as the Hotel Zachary. And like the location in Wicker Park, this spot has a huge patio, solid tacos, and a fun atmosphere. This version is twice the size of the original, though, and full of the Wrigleyville crowd. Meaning you’ll see more families, baby strollers, and people in Cubs gear. The menu is the same as Wicker Park’s, other than the addition of the delicious “hot chips,” a.k.a. nachos where the chips are freshly fried and lightly coated with salsa. This is a good place to hang outside for margaritas and tacos anytime - with or without a game going on." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor
