Bigfire has a great atmosphere and an inviting concept, but the experience fell a little short of expectations. The biggest issue was the wait time, it took much longer than expected to get our food, which was disappointing for a restaurant that presents itself as a higher-end dining option at Universal CityWalk.
Cobb Salad – The ingredients were fresh, and the grilled chicken had a nice smoky flavour from their signature wood blend. The pork belly added a rich, savoury bite, but the sweet potatoes felt a little out of place. The honey barbecue dressing was decent but didn’t really elevate the dish. Overall, it was a solid salad, but nothing particularly special.
Beer Can Chicken – Unfortunately, the chicken was overcooked and ended up being quite dry, which really took away from the dish. I was expecting a more flavourful and juicy result given the cooking method, but it just didn’t deliver. The Brunswick stew was a nice addition, adding some moisture and depth, but the slaw was pretty standard and didn’t do much to enhance the meal.
14 oz. Boneless Ribeye – Easily the best part of the meal. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a nice sear and a good balance of char and tenderness served with mash potatoes and some grilled vegetables. However, for a restaurant aiming for a higher standard, it didn’t quite have that wow factor to make it stand out.
Overall, Bigfire has potential, but the long wait times and just decent food make it hard to justify the premium pricing. It’s a good option if you’re already at CityWalk and want something other than quick service, but I expected more from a restaurant positioning itself at a higher level.
