Had I read the reviews before visiting, I may have been deterred. I'm so glad I went in with an open mind (and a half full belly).
My foodie friend and I visited on a quiet, but surprisingly balmy night earlier this week. We were given VIP treatment from the get go, so I was immediately smitten.
I'm on the tail end of a diet AND I'm vegetarian, so I wasn't expecting to have many options. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't try everything on our table but the things I did try were delicious. Starting with the fries...solid. They initially appeared to be potato, which would've been fine. Instead, they were slightly thicker than potato chips, but not as thick as potato wedges. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. Outside of this diet, I could see myself eating an entire plate of them. The Beet It salad was so lovely. It was simple, colorful, and light. I ate around what I couldn't have (i.e. the salad dressing) for the sake of being a good dinner companion, but modification requests would've been acceptable. Lastly, the roasted cauliflower was the pièce de résistance! It was still piping hot when we received it in all of its golden brown glory. It was perfectly cooked and it sat atop what looked to be the creamiest hummus I've ever seen. The hummus was another restricted item for me, but my friend had it and described it as being "more subtle in regards to the chickpeas, and flavorful". Can't wait to have the entire dish soon! Honorable mentions for the tuxedo pasta covered in mushrooms, the chicken wings (which I'm told were tender and juicy), and the dessert which shall not be named.
We tasted both mocktails and they were also delicious. The Ruby Red had more of a "dry" taste and was very grapefruit forward. The mule tasted exactly like a Moscow mule minus the booze. Hats off to the bartender(s) and our server!
We also had the opportunity to speak to the manager, Eddie. He checked on our table as soon as we sat down and once we'd finished our meal. He explained that, while the restaurant's name has remained the same, the concept has changed. I never got the chance to visit Bijan's before the new management took over. I'm sure it was great, but I'm pleased with the current concept. Wishing them all the best!
