"The island-inspired weekend brunch at Billy’s at the Beach includes Hawaiian French toast, banana nut pancakes with strawberries and coconut meringue, and a loco moco with jasmine rice and brown gravy. The waterfront view of Newport paired with Billy’s “World Famous Mai Tai,” a sizable bloody mary, or the dark rum-spiked Billy’s Boat Drink (think strawberry pina colada) is a cool way to kick off the weekend." - Jenn Tanaka

5-STARS for friendly service! The staff really made this Newport Beach restaurant memorable for us. Billy's at the Beach menu of appetizers (Pupus) and the Pupu party caught our eye but we ultimately ordered from the Billy's menu of Handhelds. * Baja Fish Tacos * This was our favorite menu item, crunchy and perfect ratio of fish to batter. The Steak Sandwich and Pico De Avo Burger were good but the STARS for us was shoestring french fries and cheese bread! Ate so many we forgot to leave room for dessert =( Our Billy's at the Beach photos include all three menu items plus a few extra photos of the restaurant and the Newport Beach harbor. Also added a few fun photos of a cyber truck in the parking lot and curbside vintage phone booth. Going back to the great service, we got our food cut and plated to split among each of us... it's the little things like this that truly stand out for me.

Google
So there’s a whole row of these restaurants along the bay and we ended up at Billy’s. We came bc of the tiki vibes and reasonable pricing. So my complaints are the drinks were too sugary and not boozy enough and the food was decent but I thought the ribs were overcooked. The service was very attentive with perfect timing. As a whole, it was good but I probably won’t be back anytime soon. There’s better options for tiki.

I'm definitely going back to try the other Mai Tai drinks 🤤

We had a wonderful celebration for my 80 year old auntie.. it was amazing and fun

We walked along the street from our hotel and we’re drawn in by the Aloha style exterior. Great ambiance inside. Tables view the harbor. I got a chicken dish with avocado, tomatoes, veggies and cheddar cheese. It was delicious. My husband had the juicy burger. Their cheese bread is like dessert! Affordable prices too.

Billy’s was pretty good, a little pricey for the quality but you’re paying for the atmosphere. Overall recommend for a chill date spot, or a good hangout. Coconut shrimp were bomb, and the tacos were solid.

Came here for lunch with a friend. Everyone we encountered was polite and professional, from the parking valet to the waitress. We were led immediately to a patio table overlooking the dock where customers pull up by boat. Fun people watching. Ordered the Calamari appetizer. Absolutely delicious but it comes with a warning. We found the sauce too hot to eat, so we asked for a side of ranch dressing to mix with the sauce. Even the waitress admitted the sauce is very spicy! Adding the Ranch worked. We had the California Style Burger with Swiss Cheese, Bacon, and Avocado. Presentation was 10 stars, taste was wonderful. Finished our meal with a slice of Key Lime Pie. What we got looked and tasted more like cheesecake, but it was still yummy. Fun restaurant, awesome food.

Rode our bikes here for happy hour food. It was quite busy on the bar patio since the sun finally came out and it’s the first weekend of summer. We grabbed a nice big corner spot. The boys ordered mai tai’s, I got a glass of wine and my friend got an espresso martini. The martini was SO good. We ordered chowder fries, fried green beans, calamari, sausage & peppers and chicken skewers. Personal, Not a fan of the chowder fries. I don’t like soggy fries. The green beans were the bomb! They had 3 sauces served with them but the ranch was the best. Calamari was also delicious as well as the sausage & peppers. The chicken skewers were pathetic. They were the size of my pinky finger, barely any chicken. And for $12?!? They should be embarrassed to serve it. I’d take it off the menu or try to increase the size! Ambiance is amazing here, serving staff is great. Always a fun place to hang out!

Yelp
Scott best bartender around amazing old fashion taste 10/10 service 100/10 Billy's at the beach is an amazing place

Yelp
Stopped in here for an appetizer and some drinks before going out on a dinner cruise. Glad we did. Very friendly place seems like a place locals probably go to. Everybody was laid-back and just a very friendly vibe. The service was outstanding. If you're ever in the Newport area, highly recommend recommended

Nick C.

Yelp
Ambiance here is very nice! It has Hawaiian vibes. Service was good. Food was good enough to have a repeat visit. Took a client here per their recommendation so away we went. Ordered the egg rolls, calamari, and chips and guac and the huli huli chicken and everything was moist and an nice amount of seasoning with rice, slice of pineapple, and mixed veggies. Didn't take photos but the would order again offerings for me would be the chips and guac, calamari, and the Huli Huli chicken plate! Would recommend for a nice seat by the water.

Yelp
If you want the feel like your on a tropical vacation, you must have dinner here. The Mai Tai is the best I had since we were in Maui. The cheesebread is so sweet, cheesey and hot...delicious. We had 6 different dinners, including Oysters and teriyaki chicken seekers. and we were all extremely satisfied. Our server went out of her way to make sure we always had drinks and that the food was to our liking. Very attentive and sweet. The ambiance, as I stated above, will take you on a tropical holiday and I would suggest to request the tables overlooking the Newport bay.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to dine at for our anniversary. I had never heard of Billy's at the Beach but while searching for local seafood restaurants, Billy's came up. Therefore, we made a reservation and headed down to Newport Beach for dinner. Billy's at the Beach is located on Pacific Coast Highway. It's kind of easy to miss as the restaurant as it's tucked further back on the property. There is a small parking lot which basically only gives you the option of valet parking your car. There are a couple of spots right in front of the restaurant, off to the side. You can park right there if they're open. Before you walk inside, you'll notice some neon signage on the side of the building. The door has a little tiki carving for the handle. When you walk inside, you'll notice that it's a bit of an intimate setting. It's small and every seat provides guest with a view of the marina. The menu is a mix of various Hawaiian style dishes. It all looked quite familiar to us as we had just come back from Oahu. My husband ordered the spam fried rice with the chicken and rice. I ordered shrimp scampi. While we waited for our meal, they brought over some cheese bread. It was a delicious, both buttery and cheesy! Our meals were served with a purple flower that is usually found one leis. The shrimp scampi was delicious! The lemon garlic sauce added so much flavor to the shrimp and rice. It wasn't overpowering by any means. It was cooked to perfection! Billy's at the Beach exceeded my expectations. I wasn't sure about this place given the mixed reviews on Yelp. We had excellent service as our waitress came by often to check on us. We really enjoyed our meals as well as the laid back environment. We will definitely be back in the near future.

Suzie S.

Yelp
Billy's is #1 restaurant to me. I love the service. The food and everyone is nice. It. Is just the Valet is not professional and they did disrespect me. I will still go to Billy's but I will Not use the valet even if I have to uber.

Jaynar S.

Yelp
Came in for happy hour and unfortunately was super disappointed. Other than the great views of the water, the food is lackluster. For their Happy Hour, the Chicken Skewers were dry and seemed rushed in their oven, and the teriyaki sauce was not appetizing. The Pork Sliders were also bland and disappointing. For drinks, the Lemonade Lau and Sunset Martini were good, which was the only positive other than the views. My daughter had the Kids Fish & Chips (see photos for Kids Menu). While the fish was decent, the fries were over salty. They also do not list the price of the kids meals; even our server did not know and had to ask a manager. Amazing views with ok service. Come for the drinks and ambience, not the food. I know running a business is challenging, particularly nowadays with rising costs, but this is my honest review.

John O.

Yelp
The food is fine but nothing memorable. Cocktails are well made but definitely on the high end in terms of price. Of course with the harbor view everything is higher priced. That's a given. Only parking option is valet so you've already dropped a tenner walking in the door. I guess that's why I don't dine in beach restaurants much. I can get excellent food for better prices and not pay for their real estate.

Reese J.

Yelp
We came here on a Friday night and valeted for parking. With reservations we got seated in the patio area pretty quickly. Restrooms were clean. Ambiance is the beach-bar vibe with a Hawaiian twist. Our server wasn't friendly nor was he rude. He recommended the ahi which was pretty good. The cho cho skewer from the pupu plate was also good.

Genie L.

Yelp
The location is awesome because you can get a view of the harbor from your table. Parking is valet, but there's also a paid lot across the street. Staff is friendly and decor is festive tiki vibes. Food is just okay, nothing really special or memorable. We had: Cho Cho skewers, 3/5 Pupu party with coconut shrimp, crispy shrimp, calamari, spring rolls. All meh. 2/5 My piña colada was refreshing 4.5/5 Chips/guac/salsa, 4/5 Baby back ribs entree, 3/5 New York Steak, fries, garlic potatoes, 3.5/5 Lava cake, 4/5 Malasadas, 4/5 Would I come back again? Sure, for the view, atmosphere, drinks, dessert.

Edith M.

Yelp
Good vibes and good drinks. The service was exceptional, especially since we were a large group. They were very accommodating and really nice. The cucumber crush was by far my fave and so delicious and refreshing. The Mai Tai is well made and the piña colada soooooo good!

Lynne B.

Yelp
The ambiance is wonderful. We were even able to view the harbor Christmas light boat parade. They also took pictures out on the balcony of my nieces and their friend. Our server was exceptional. The margaritas were delicious and the food was good, but their coconut cream pie is out of this world. It is on the pricey side, but the ambience and atmosphere are worth the extra cost.

Chris P.

Yelp
Wow the food is great here. The seafood was very fresh and my oysters served very cold. The fish n chips were excellent and not greasy. Its a bit pricey but very worth the money. No matter where you sit irs a good seat. Service was very good.

Cynthia C.

Yelp
This is a review for the back bar area, Mai Tai, service and decor. We did not eat at Billy's, just grabbing Mai Tais. Came in around 5:30 on a Friday night as other groups were arriving for holiday dinners, and some groups were finishing up the after work drink gatherings. We spotted a back bar area and made our way as a couple was leaving and grabbed their seats. Immediately the bar was wiped down and a smiling, welcoming tender asked us if we'd like some menus, we said sure, but we knew we wanted 2 world famous Mai Tais. Done and DONE! With the exception of the "house juice blend", the drink was prepared fresh in front of us, using the Bacardi, orange curaçao, dark rum float and garnished with pineapple and cherry. Perfectly delicious, citrus refreshing notes and not sweet with syrup. We admired the Polynesian ambiance and furnishing were kept up to date, not run down as many restaurants that have been around as long as Billy's. We were beginning to feel the tiki vibe about half way through our drinks, so we closed out, snapped a few pics and continued our venture. All staff smiled and wished us a pleasant evening or weekend as we made our way out of the now filling restaurant. Was the Mai Tai worth the $18? Perhaps not for a Bacardi base, but expected in this area, so cheers! "CC"

Heather M.

Yelp
Dinner @billysatthebeach was such a fun experience! Greeted with a champagne toast, this tiki bar is done well (not cheesy) with attentive service. We started with the fuzzy bunny mocktail and spicy margarita. The tempura green beans and calamari were perfectly fried and crunchy with the best sauces- a wasabi ranch, Thai chili, marinara, and our fav- kimchi! The ahi burger was fresh and rare. The fish and chips were a huge platter of Ono paired with fries and the best macaroni salad (Asian flavors). The Hulu chicken was satisfying. I had the ohana salad and added seared ahi! It was full of mushrooms, onions, hearts of palm and croutons. Loved the vibe here!

Claudia M.

Yelp
We celebrated my husband's birthday this weekend. Such an amazing location. Food is satisfactory and the Mai Tai's - forget about it. Service is friendly and welcoming.

luke m.

Yelp
On top of having really good food and great atmosphere the service was outstanding! We came in and were welcomed by scott at the bar who was friendly and recommend the best drink options. I will be returning here!

Ms. H.

Yelp
Billy's At The Beach is a staple for fine dining aficionados. The ambiance, class and panoramic harbor views are second to none. The Huli Huli Chicken is my all time favorite and was sure to please for Christmas Eve. The Halibut was equally delicious and is a must try. Thank you, Sam and The Billy's At The Beach Staff. You're a class act.

T L.

Yelp
First, Billy's is Legendary. Have been popping in there for years and have always enjoyed the old school feel. Beautiful marina view if sit in the main area. Always a nice welcome from the host/hostess and bartenders. The real treat is sitting at the outside bar and having Melissa the Bartender take care of you. What a gem! So professional (acknowledging you, service with a smile, checking in on you) and kind with her customers. And of course the epic Coconut Shrimp. Truly one of our favorite Guilty Pleasures. Enjoy!

Lexi S.

Yelp
Love love love! Give the bartender Tim a raise! He is always making my customers smile and laugh and he is happy to concoct a special cocktail to your liking. The vibe is very casual and fun and has cute island decor. I love the hula girls. You can sit outside on the patio or inside (we sat at the bar) there's nice large booths and tables as well. Love the view of the harbor! The drinks are stiff and well priced. My friend and I love coming here weekly to grab a drink and chat. Tim always takes the best care of us, very professional and remarkable at his job, he takes customer service seriously. Thank you for always crafting a laid back and fun environment, see ya this weekend!

Daniel D.

Yelp
Great food had breakfast w eggs and turkey bacon My wife had chicken sausage Happy to see no pork options for breakfast Great ambience Great fun Great owner Thanks "little Billy " great personality and infectious manner

Yelp
...So I'm a bit behind, but this review is for OC restaurant week. I drive by here frequently, and finally decided to try this place out. They had a great deal going for OC Restaurant week, especially the lunch deal- Billy's Beach Burger, a drink (I went with one of their famous Mai Tai's), and Hawaiin Malasadas for dessert all for $25. That is a GREAT deal. Plus it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded during lunch hour. The burger was a huge size and tasted great. The Mai Tai was good, but I don't drink very much, so it did hit me pretty quickly. It was not a weak drink for sure. Loved the dessert as well. The view is beautiful- I have to come back for a happy hour, and check out a sunset from this place. The staff was very nice and attentive. You do have to get valet parking, so bring cash for that. I'll be back for sure!

Scott R.

Yelp
I was staying down the road at Balboa Bay Resort and thought I'd check out Billy's on Saturday (9/15). I of course had to try their world famous Mai Tai and I must say that it was outstanding. Tim was the bartender and he was working hard all evening, he probably made at least 100+ Mai Tai's. For dinner I ordered the Swordfish Steak which also included mashed potatoes and green beans. I must say that the Swordfish was just outstanding and seasoned perfectly. The Mai Tai's were so good I think I had about five. Tim provided excellent service and his drinks were just out of this world. Great job Billy's and I'll see you again really soon.

Stanley R.

Yelp
Delightful restaurant/bar, spectacular view wonderful service and tasty food! I just love this place! The high points are all detailed above. All the food is just great, the calamari, the chowders, the brunch, the drinks, the convenience , (valet parking $9), close to home, close to the beach, sail up moorings, the view! I always take my out-of-town visitors here to give them the full Newport experience as encapsulated in a single restaurant. I think you will love this place as much as I do! It is an institution, a tradition, and a joy!

Hector R.

Yelp
Even wanting to try Billy's by the beach for quite a while. There were so many choices. That we definitely will have to come back. Great service and excellent food.

Gabriela A.

Yelp
We were sitting in patio next to our table were a table of group of young people that were screaming and being so loud. My husband and I couldn't even hear our self talk. Your restaurant manager did nothing to take control of situation. Finally waitress told the one person to lower his voice but it didn't last long before the yelling and screaming started again. This was not a good dining experience at all.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Located on busy PCH but is easy to find. The only parking option is valet for $9 - it's cash only, but they have an ATM if needed (with a charge of course). The inside looks warm and welcoming and the decor is nice, but the outside patio did not match the same vibe as the inside decor. Our server was very nice and carried a great conversation with us each time he came by. The drinks were pretty good and strong. As for the food...it's overpriced for what they offer. The menu is limited and food was okay tasting.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Melissa our Bartender was a delight , fast friendly service . Beautiful Smile when she greeted us . The drinks she made us so good .

Mike H.

Yelp
Food good Service great, we requested a change of table because of noise. Very very noisy, because of this we will not return.

Johnnie C.

Yelp
It was a good and lively atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating. There is also seating to overlook the boats and water. My wife ordered the Coconut Shrimp. I liked the crunchy texture, however wifey thought it was too coconutty. It was cooked just right for me. I had the Pulled Pork sandwich. It tasted just okay. Could have had more BBQ sauce and more pork, for what it costed. The beverages were good and the soda and iced tea were refillable. Valet was convenient and costed $9. I will return soon to try it out again.

K R.

Yelp
Awesome experience here at Billy's. I know it's not a steak house but the filet mignon was quite possibly the best I've ever had. Sam, the general manager was attentive to our every need. Billy's at the Beach is an excellent choice for any occasion.

Grace H.

Yelp
I had horrible experience I went to my friends birthday here and I was a little tipsy after we got off a boat nearby, as we are eating the "owner who said his name was John" middle aged white man with brown hair came over and shouted at my to stop vaping and he said to "cover up my knockers, which according to my friend were not out , my friends were in shock because we were eating on a patio outside so everyone turned around and stared. He said this in a disgusting way , if my dress slipped (which it didn't) it could have been handled in private, with another woman employee, my friends and I barely wanted to finish our food because of this man. So now I am contacting my lawyer and suing for sexual harassment and emotional distress. DO NOT EAT HERE!

Diane R.

Yelp
We were first time customers and were absolutely pleasantly surprised! Everything was excellent from the friendly staff to the excellent food! The food was plated so nicely and we couldn't have been more happy and would highly recommend Billy's at the Beach to everyone!!!!

Tim T.

Yelp
Great experience with my wife at Billy's at the Beach. We had a table looking out to the channel, and the ambiance was perfect. My wife had the Macadamia Crusted Halibut, and I had the Huli Huli Half Chicken. Both entrees were excellent. The fish was cooked as ordered, and the Huli Huli Chicken came back de-boned, which was a bonus as cutting through a half chicken in a restaurant was not easy. Sides of white rice and sautéed vegetables were very good. I would give this experience four stars as the establishment was not really busy for a 7PM reservation, but the service, albeit friendly, was slower than I anticipated. The server, John, was very pleasant. I ordered two cocktails from the bar, and each took 15-20 minutes to deliver, pretty slow for me, so hence, the 4* review. Would be a 5* if the bar service was more timely. Will be returning though. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and worth a second visit!

Karen P.

Yelp
Decided to go to Billy's mid week for a late lunch. Got a window table on the water. Our waiter was great as he could tell we were in no hurry. We shared an amazing clam chowder and it was amazing! Hubby got the fish and chips which were delicious. I got the steak sandwich, which was topped with arugula and open faced. Truly perfect! Will come back soon!

Michaela M.

Yelp
Great happy hour, great ambiance amazing food! Would come back over and over again! They had a live singer who had the most amazing voice with so much range in different songs, we enjoyed it so much!

Niki B.

Yelp
Went with my mom and my kids The ambience is a 10 out of 10 I got the steak sandwich and split it with my mother. It was delicious portion was large however it was difficult to eat because it is served open face and I was not given any utensils nor offered utensils so I had to steal them from another table because our waiter was nowhere to be found Ever The kids presentation was 10 out of 10. Totally amazing one son got the grilled cheese and that was a grilled cheese served on a Hawaiian roll with fruit and veggies. It was lovely and french fries however, my other son got the macaroni and cheese, which was not very good. The pasta was totally overcooked and the cheese sauce was grainy from the rue sauce that they had made. So he did not enjoy it for dessert. We got the chocolate lava cake. It was delicious. We got sparkling water and then I had to hunt the waiter down again to get more water in his defense. It looks like they may be shortstaffed because I never saw anyone bussing tables 0 personality

Arolyn B.

Yelp
Our waitress Perry was amazing. Friendly warm, On it! Sam the manager was too. Yummy food!

Scott D.

Yelp
I love the outside bar at Billy's. The atmosphere is amazing, and the staff puts out a great vibe. I want to give a shout out to Melissa the bartender. She is so professional, efficient, and possesses a great customer friendly attitude. Her Mai Tai's are delicious.

Erik A.

Yelp
Best Mai Tai's in the OC hands down. Great spot to watch a game and catch a bit to eat.

Claudine V.

Yelp
3.5 for this place. Their pork chop is still the best. Have been here three times and service is good. They have valet but only cash. Restrooms could be a little cleaner. Trust

Michael J.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was great. Atmosphere is beautiful by the water. Only issue I had was with the portion sizes for the tacos. $14-$18 for 2 street tacos is a little too pricy.

Vy D.

Yelp
Who loves Hawaiian vibe? Highlights of the menu: 1. Mai Tai - they stated themselves the best Mai Tai in the world. I need you experts to verify this 2. Ahi poke 3. Beef skewers 4. Macademia halibut with white rice Servers are wearing Hawaiian shirt and provide very quick service.

Autumn F.

Yelp
Great food, service & ambience with an amazing view of the Newport harbor. Menu is very versatile & all dishes I tried were amazing. Definitely would recommend and return!

Loree C.

Yelp
The restaurant is an old standby and has convenient valet parking, easy to get into, the view from the windows in the dining room inside is wonderful with the boats and the bay on view. They have outside dining on the patio and a bar also a bar inside. Went there with a girlfriend, and we both enjoyed it very much. Service was great and our waitress was friendly. Will be back soon

Julie P.

Yelp
From the Jimmy Buffet Vibe to the spicy margarita and cold beer what a nice spot we happened upon. We had a few hours between the wedding and the dinner cruise reception so we popped in Billie's! We enjoyed great drinks, and the menu had something for everyone! Our Server Perry was a delight! She was prompt, and friendly! Only negative was the hostess and a busser were more interested in chatting than they were in seating us, thankfully once we were sat the rest was a great experience!

Billy W.

Yelp
Awful experience at Billy's at the Beach. The hostess was extremely rude, making us feel unwelcome. She even told us that other reservations were coming soon, rushing us to leave. This completely soured our day. Needless to say we decided not to dine there and left.

Samantha D.

Yelp
Billy's is a fun spot to go to for drinks and apps. It's right by the water so is fun to go to during the day. The drinks are good and the Hawaiian cheese bread is so tasty! I've had different experiences with service each time I've been, some great, some not so great.

Jeremy H.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the outside patio atmosphere was great. After dinner we moved into the bar and the bartender Tim was incredible he was very welcoming and made some of the best drinks I've ever had. We will definitely be back
