This Stunning Mountain Range in Italy Has Some of the Country’s Best Skiing — and Is Surprisingly Easy to Get To

"A family-run, eco-conscious 25-room converted alpine cabin that blends traditional carved-pine details with modern bathrooms, it features a warm wood-beamed lounge scattered with antique Persian and kilim rugs and panoramic mountain views. The property encourages relaxed late-afternoon lounging and aperitivi at a cheerful bar with salumi and cheeses, while its Michelin-starred restaurant serves inventive riffs on regional dishes — from ravioli gyoza stuffed with prawns, ginger and onions to turbot with savoy cabbage and black truffle and an oriental-style cured pork with sesame-and-soy cabbage — balancing tradition and innovation." - Pilar Guzmán

Biohotel Hermitage (Madonna di Campiglio, Alps / Dolomites) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Like many of the most charming places to stay in Italy — former convents, recycled tobacco factories, restored winery buildings — the Biohotel Hermitage didn’t start out as a hotel. It was a farmhouse owned by a local family, later converted into a B&B, and then, in 1999, to a boutique-style property that’s considered the first eco-friendly hotel in the region. The region in question: the valleys of Trentino, the yang to the yin of the magnificent Dolomites mountain range in Italy’s northernmost region. It’s a place you come to ski, followed by après-ski, followed by a massage in the spa, followed by dinner with a view of the mountains, followed by cuddling next to the fireplace in your suite. Word to the wise: Biohotel Hermitage expects you to come with a loved one, of the romantic versus familial variety." - Tablet Hotels

Biohotel Hermitage | Best ski hotels in Europe

"The Dolomites are one of the world’s most dramatic mountain ranges, and this hotel has front-row seats – you get towering, jagged peaks from almost every window. The best place to soak up the vista is from the pool, with huge panoramic windows that make you feel as if you can literally touch the red-tinged peaks at sundown. If the views are the primary attraction, the food is a close second. Michelin-starred chef Giovanni D’Alitta heads the kitchen, and treats guests to a multi-course gourmet menu. A courtesy minibus service is provided to the main ski lifts during the winter season. " - Nicola Iseard

What a hotel! We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon, and from the moment we arrived it was absolutely stunning. We were greeted and shown around and given the choice of 2 rooms which was such a pleasant surprise but a tough choice! The view from our room was absolutely breathtaking and we never tired of it - waking up in the morning to the Dolomites was something else and seeing the silhouette of the moon was equally as impressive. The location is great for various ski lifts as well as numerous hikes. Just as impressive as the view has to be the food that's served as part of the half board. Everything that is served is fresh, tasteful and so well presented, it's safe to say this was our favourite place we ate on our honeymoon. There was a choice each night of a meat, fish or vegetable option so you could always be happy with what you were getting. One day we will be back as the service, views, food and room were all second to none and we absolutely loved our stay!

My wife chose this hotel because they have a reputation for exceptional food but there are many other benefits to staying at this hotel, not least the stunning views.|The staff are bilingual in English and Italian (maybe others too). The staff training is of a very high standard indeed (I would consider it alongside the Oriental in Bangkok which is renowned for their level of service). This is a family run hotel and there is the right balance between friendliness and professionalism.|The restaurant serves top quality cuisine and, after the first evening, we decided to eat there throughout our stay.|We did not use the spa but we will certainly try it out next time we visit.

This is a really beautiful hotel, with the most spectacular views, and incredibly lovely and welcoming staff. The room was very comfortable and the breakfasts and half-board dinners were delicious.

This boutique hotel is a gem. Don’t miss the chance to stay here - it is a memorable experience. |The setting, amazing mountain views, and stylish decor offer authentic Alpine luxury, the staff and service are second to none, but it is the cuisine that makes it exceptional; it shares a kitchen with the renowned Michelin starred Stube restaurant (definitely worth a visit) and the hotel’s 5 course dinner menu is overseen by the same chef. Every night is truly a gastronomic experience.

My husband, our two young adults and I truly love this hotel. Everyone and everything in it is making you feel entirely welcome, utterly comfortable and is devoted to make you enjoy your stay in the manner best suited to you. The best description I can find is the perfect mix between cosy and elegant. We came once, returned and already booked again for next year. We book the most simple rooms, but these are very comfortable, spotlessly clean, have a well equipped bathroom with an excellent shower and a nice balcony. The common areas are delightful. The bar and lounge is capacious, sunny, sports a wonderful view, has a cosy decor and very comfortable armchairs and sofas - you can read or work in peace during the day , have a scrumptious piece of cake (courtesy of the hotel) in the afternoon, drinks (I believe from lunchtime onwards), and/or a cigar in the totally insulated and perfectly ventilated smoking room. The dining room is both comfortable and elegant, with sufficient distance between the tables to ensure your conversation remains private. The spa is a haven of peace and relaxation. The swimming pool with jacuzzi, the bio-sauna that smells delicious, the traditional nordic sauna, the hammam and the powerful multi-jets showers are bound to restore your tired muscles. The herbal tea, delightful chaises-longues and stunning view over the outdoors are equally bound to relax you. In terms of food, the hotel has both a one-star Michelin restaurant and a “regular” restaurant. The half-board formula includes dinner at the “regular” restaurant, but regular is a misnomer for the delicious cuisine on offer: fresh produce, very savourily cooked and seasoned, and catering to all tastes (including vegetarians) with an antipasto, salad bar, 3 choices of starters, 3 choices of mains and 2 choices of dessert. To boost, the chef is willing and able to go the extra mile and beyond for people with specific tastes or food allergies. I’m severely allergic to garlic, onions, chives, shallots, leeks (and any other members of that family), which is not easy to accomodate in Mediterranean countries. Each night I was given the same choices with necessary alterations, and not only had I not a single bit of my forbidden food but the altered dish was always mouth-watering. The wine list is quite extensive and caters to all purses and tastes. We had excellent local white and red wines for 30 euro max per bottle. The breakfast buffet, cold spread and hot food, is the best we’ve had - and we’ve had many over the course of 40 years of travels.. |The hotel drivers bring you and your skis (which can be stored at the hotel unless you choose to book a locker at the start of the slopes) to the 2 mostly used ski lifts areas at anytime and pick you back up, they are also willing to drive you to others less used spots outside of the most crowded departures and return times. It takes very little time to drive from the hotel to the ski lifts. |Last but not least, the owners and the whole staff are dedicated to your well-being, responsive, informative and efficient. They have impeccable manners coupled with a ready smile and treat you like an honoured relative. If you’ve managed to read this review all the way through, it will come as no surprise that the four us recommend this hotel with enthusiasm and no reservations whatsoever.

This hotel is a joy, The hotel staff are exceptionally helpful, patient and well informed regarding local walks and likely conditions. The rooms themselves are beautifully appointed and those who had balconies over looking the rear of the property, had trouble dragging themselves away from sunsets and rises. Breakfasts were lovely and the awarded dining room provisions were memorable, Use of the minivan to drop us to various lifts and gondolas was much appreciated. Would definitely stay again. Thank you to the lovely staff who assisted making this stay one of our best on a tour of the Dolomites

We really love this hotel - it is the only place in the world we come back to again and again. The rooms are comfortable and so clean but the views from the rooms and terrace are spectacular. It really is in an ideal position and a lovely walk into the village. Barbara, her family and whole team are so welcoming, it is a gorgeous place to relax after walking in the mountains ( or skiing if you come in Winter). The bar and terrace are great spots to just have a drink, have lunch or sit and read a book in peace. The food deserves a special mention. We don’t normally have half board anywhere but we look forward to it here. The dinners really are wonderful and Michelin standard. The team are all lovely and so helpful - a special mention to Rueben, Stefano and Paolo but also to all the others who are too many to mention but make the Hermitage a very special place. We look forward to our next trip!

Incredibly special hotel, with a family vibe, a Michelin quality restaurant, and stunning back drop. Truly a special experience, with a staff that makes you feel like you’re at home, without being overwhelming. Incredibly fine balance, which they have nailed. |It was our first time and we didn’t know what to expect, so only did half board, but happily could have eaten all of our dinners there. Breakfast was great, and the staff were super friendly and great with the kids. Afternoons after skiing, we enjoyed the ‘cake happy hour’ which was a really interesting idea that I had never seen. Delicious homemade cakes, strudels, and pastries. The kids loved it. The spa was a perfect way to recharge after skiing with the pool, steam room, and multiple saunas all overlooking the Dolomites. Finally, our free shuttle into town and back each day. We were concerned about it being a hassle, but turned out to be a highlight of the day. We never waited more than a few minutes, and Enzo the driver was a gem. We looked forward to seeing him, and our girls were riding up front with him by the end. |Just a truly magical place, with no detail spared, a foodie’s heaven, and a backdrop that looks fake. Can’t say enough about it.

Yelp
A third generation family hotel with friendly and highly dedicated staff, clean rooms, top notch breakfast and five course dinners and a pool area with a view to kill for. We ended up staying longer than planned. One reason was because our kids loved the place, especially the playroom and Lucce - the friendly hotel dog. The helpful staff also guided us to a number of fantastic hikes in the beautiful Dolomites. Highly recommended.
