In the mood for grouper so found this place. The reviews were quite good so decided to venture in and try them out. It was very hard to keep my focus on the meal looking around and seeing filth and previous patrons leftovers. Air conditioning dripping all over you and the tables. Don’t look thru the pass into the kitchen, you can see all the filth back there too. Obviously inspections haven’t happened here in some time. The grouper sandwich was cooked well, could have been hit with some seasoning and salt. Shrimp was pretty bland. Not entirely sure what people are really thinking when they do these reviews. Maybe it is the drinks that get them, but the atmosphere and food are definitely not worthy of good regards.

They are no longer serving oysters. They were out of 2 of the beers ordered, they were out of 2 of the items on the menu to eat additionally. The server was great and it wasn't her fault. She handled it well. I was hopeful because it looks like a dive bar that serves oysters. Those are usually the best. I didn't rate the food because I ended up not ordering food. After 5 failed attempts, I was kind of finished.

Been here a million times but I guess they don't train the incoming staff the same way. Im waiting in line for the bathroom when a staff member grace comes and tries to cut the line. I tell them no you can't and am met with abrasion. All good. I go to the bathroom and continue my night. I wait for a drink at the bar from grace and she chooses not to serve me. The woman next to me asks for a drink and I piggy back off that and im told to leave because I will not be served. At this point the bartender has been loud enough some customer are starting to get involved and I begin to get pushed. I tell the new contact to stop touching me but it is no a full physical item. I eventually get escorted out by Wyatt and customers before anyone even gets my side. Ive come here for YEARS and its hilarious to know how they accosted customers just because a staff member felt entitled to the bathroom. Get portapotties if yall feel like that!!

Birds is a true hole in the wall restaurant. The business has clearly been there for years. But don't let that fool you. Like any true hole in the wall, the food is amazing and the staff is incredible. Everything I have ordered so far has been absolutely delicious! The staff is super friendly and enjoyable to be around. Birds is a true gem and clearly a locals favorite haunt.

Surprisingly good!! On a game day when every other restaurant was packed, we walked into Bird's which had several tables available. That got us slightly nervous. But we were in for such a treat!! Though not a huge selection on the menu, each of our dish was cooked to perfection and so delicious!! We enjoyed the food, the mimosas and had a wonderful time. Good selection of beer as well. We'll revisit if we're back in Tallahassee.

Quirky local joint. Had a blast. Excellent oysters. Today's batch was out of Louisiana. A bit pricy but still delicious. Fried shrimp from the freezers but still good. Awesome fries. Dont know what was in the Bird Sauce but i want to. Yummy. Half a dozen beers on tap and a fridge full with dozens more. Great variety. Mixed drinks were better than I've had in a while. Not fancy but the LIIT was worthwhile. I had two. Quirky decor. Indoor and outdoor seating. Good music. Most importantly, a wonderful and welcoming staff.

If you are staying at a nearby hotel pick Sheraton it's 50 yards from the restaurant. This should be a DDD on flavor town. Fresh oysters and grouper for me! I have never had better fries and coleslaw perfect with the fries. I sat at the bar and my pretty server was polite kind and efficient. Ambiance is what I like rustic, nostalgic and low key.

If you ask people where to eat in Tallahassee Birds seems to somehow always work its way into the conversation. Where can I get good seafood? Birds Where is the best burger in town? Birds I found both of the statements to be false. Birds is a local hangout that seems to have acquired a bit of a cult following that somehow masks the actual quality of the food. The oysters are decent and the actual restaurant has a great vibe and I understand why people go there to throw back a beer and eat. Unfortunately aside from that it leaves much to be desired. The burger is frankly just bad. Mine personally tasted like someone caught a fish then proceeded to cook said burger in the water the fish was in. I honestly would not be surprised if they were just throwing on the grill some frozen Bubba burgers and calling it a day. Overall I can't recommend this establishment. I award Birds 2 soggy fish burgers out of 5

I've heard quite a few people rave about Bird's burgers. I've even heard folks say it's the best burger in town. It's not. The burger was huge. BEAUTIFUL size. It was also juicy as hell! LOVED it. My problem was, the burger tasted like it had almost no seasoning. I was immensely disappointed. This big, thick, juicy burger staring me in my face........wit' no flavor. I felt like I was being punished. And to make matters worse, they have the nerve to charge you if you want to add sliced pickles. It does come with a pickle spear but who the hell charges for sliced pickles?! My Wife and I also tried the Mahi Mahi Fritters. I've never had fish fritters that didn't taste like fish. They were shaped like hush puppies and tasted so bland. It was like eating fried, unseasoned bread crumbs. Not even the Bird's sauce we dipped the fritters in could save 'em. On another note, Bird's oysters were great....or, at least they were the last time we tried them. We didn't have any on this visit but I distinctly remember how exceptional they were. We'll stop by Bird's again but it'll probably be just for the oysters. They can keep the burger and fritters.

Wow what a divey jam with great food and drinks! The best raw oysters in Florida (I'm from Maryland so this is a high bar) and the best juicy burger ever! I had to steal bites from my daughter and she won't let me have more than two bites. $1 oyster Wednesday deal is a steal!

Oysters were great and pitchers of beer to wash them down. Sitting at the bar is very entertaining.

This is one of my favorite local spots in town. It's one of the first places my wife and I would go on dates at. They always have something going on whether it's trivia or a burlesque show. I decided to come in on my lunch break this day and have a burger. I went on a long run this morning so I tried the triple burger. It was gargantuan! But it was also very good and flavorful even though it was well done. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good vibes and a good meal.

Egregious accessibility issues for those of us using wheelchairs. For the first time since I've been going for almost 10Y, I got them loaded with butter, parm, bacon, spinach, crab meat, and seasoned w/ lemon pepper. I followed with a single patty, lettuce, tomato, pineapple, raw onion, and egg, hard, always with onion rings and Abita. Patties are 10-13oz of eaters heaven. Pregnancy cravings were SATISFIED! Probably going back tomorrow for Abita and oysters, lol. Cravings are strong.

The wait has been astronomical every single time I've been here and there's absolutely no parking. Went at 4 pm on a Saturday. Plenty of empty tables. Explicitly asked if they were doing table service outside and we were told yes. We sat outside for 20 minutes without even having someone come to the table. When a server finally did come by, she asked "can I get you something to drink?" And we said said "yes and we're ready to order." She said "waters?" We said, "no we're ready to order." She snarkily said "well I'm not ready to take your order." And just walked away still without taking even a drink order. We left. Not dealing with a terrible attitude from a server and a hungry toddler at the same time.

Ordered here for the first time today. Service 6/10 The server was not friendly, helpful, or inviting. Plus I told the server I wanted coleslaw and bbq sauce on one hotdog and only coleslaw on the other but that's not what I received. The burger I ordered was decent. Food- 6/10; fries were cooked in old oil. I just came to see how good the burger was as recommended, didn't feel invited at all. They also left me a little surprise in my plate.

Have been to a few comedy nights at Birds. It's kind of an earthy atmosphere. Won't make any fine dining lists but the Food is good (not great but good). Service has always been good. In fairness I do not eat Oysters but those who do say they are very good. Comedy nights are a lot of fun.

Bird's was just Ok. Grunge style College bar, Styrofoam cups, nothing fancy. The broiled oysters were super clean & cooked nicely. But they were just broiled Oysters. You could choose your toppings, but there wasn't any Pernod used, they weren't serving traditional oysters Rockafella just really nice broiled oysters. The fried grouper sandwich had a nice piece of grouper, cooked well, however, there was no seasoning at all, completely bland. I wouldn't order it again. The Cole slaw was also completely bland, wouldn't order it again. The Burger was the worst burger hubby said he has ever had. I agree. Something went horribly wrong there. Too thick, dry, mealy, gross. If I were to find myself there again, I would order the grilled grouper sandwich with fries. The fries were nice & the service was also pleasant.

I absolutely LOVE Bird's Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack. Ever since I was a young undergrad, I would stumble into the restaurant ready to belt my lungs out for Karaoke. The restaurant itself is super grungy and has a crunchy atmosphere with some KILLER burgers and some fire Oysters. There are always people around trying to get their fix and come hang out. The drinks are cheap and the servers are always super nice. We came and got a dozen oysters with some fish dip, fried onion rings, and some fried shrimp and it was all good. To be honest, I would come back every time I visit Tallahassee if I could.

Food is good! Went for karaoke and the vibes were great. The drinks aren't as great but they get the job done.

A dive worth trying in the Capital city! Despite knowing about it in college, I never actually made my way to Bird's during my time in Tally. Perhaps it was because I was still a young woman with poor taste, drinking Four Lokos and eating free Hungry Howies pizza when possible - my palate was not yet refined enough to appreciate it, lol. So when I recently made my way back to Tally, Bird's was at the top of my list of spots to visit. Since Tallahassee is kind of a ghost town in December, I figured that I could get away with slipping into Bird's without running into a crowd. Lucky me, I was right. There are several parking spots right outside of the restaurant, but be prepared that it's on a hill! (Duh, lol) There was a nice section of covered patio seating that I zipped past because it was a chilly afternoon and I was not properly prepared. When I walked in, there was a feast for my eyes in the fun, campy decor! Cool vintage posters, a nice-sized stage that featured an inflatable Snowman and so much more - I loved it. I was quickly seated and surprised to see about 4 other parties in there in addition to the 2-3 parties outside. Not bad for a random weekday afternoon in December! I started with a beer and the fish dip and both were brought out within 10 min or so. The fish dip was accompanied by (soooo many) crackers and there was a nice portion overflowing in the cup. Man, I really wanted to love it, it was beautifully prepared but something didn't *hit* for me. I can't even tell you what was missing, maybe a little spice or a kick or crunch? It was good, but I thought it'd blow my mind. I followed up with a dozen steamed oysters in the house seasoning and they were brought out less than 15 min later. I was pretty bummed to see how small some of the oysters were. I'm a big oyster lover and expect for a few to be small, but not as many as I had. But - The flavor was delicious! I ate them quickly and was considering going for another round but with a big party on the way for my evening, I decided against it. So it took me over a decade, but I finally made it to Bird's! Next time, I'll be sure to go with a bigger appetite and will try some new options.

All salt on the onion rings ..the gentleman was dishonest about the condiments , " sir do I have proper condiments ? YesI put mayo , and catch up ." I open the bag only ketchup. Not a good vibe , also the army vet I sent inside was ignored when he asked about my order ..will not be back and spend the tip in fun .

This place was fantastic! When I walked in I wasn't sure what to expect. Let me tell you the cheapest and best drinks around. Maybe an upscale dive or gastropub? Whatever it is just go! Food is killer.Get the baked oysters!!! They were so good I got 2 orders. They had live music, it was busy and an energetic vibe. I loved it. Alexis and her team are so good. Excellent fast service!

The girl bartender with black hair is extremely disrespectful. Not only did she incorrectly close my tab and lose my card by handing it out to another customer, but she also called me a b***h afterwards. Disappointed in this interaction as I loved the environment otherwise.

I'm a local who lives out of town BUT has to visit Birds! Their staff are so charming and well trained it's why I go every time in town. A bigger bonus it's a family owned have a good time kind of place! We visit every time we are in town and I he owner Jay, one of a kind!!!!

I wanted just a seafood snack before dinner and found this spot on Yelp. I went in and ordered for take out. I ended up just getting a dozen oysters ($16) and onion rings. I understand it is hard to get oysters to go but they made it happen. They put the oysters on a bed of ice. It came with everything I needed for oysters except tabasco. They tasted fresh and was good. The onion rings were soooo good and cooked perfectly. I wanted to go back and get more days later but never got the chance. I am glad I got to try this spot out. They are known for oysters but they also have sandwiches as well. I regret not going back and can't wait to visit again on my next trip.

Birds reminds me of an oyster shack you would find along the coast before the oil spill. Great, fresh oysters in an unassuming spot. No frills, no thrills but amazing seafood and some good old cold beer to wash it down. Haven't been to Tallahassee much but this is the best place I've been to get oysters, will be back.

Bird's is a Tallahassee staple. It's a must-see if you want some townie culture and some good, unpretentious food. Menu highlights include chicken sandwiches, grouper sandwiches, and burgers. Decent beers on tap, friendly service, frequent entertainment (think open mic night, karaoke, trivia) Oh, and if you like old music/movies, you'll adore the decor.

HOLD UP!!!! HOLD UP!!!! I have a confession. I judged a book by its cover. I saw the reviews and was like, "I Have to try this place out!" However, when I arrived, I thought this had to be a complete joke. I paced for about 15 minutes to ensure I was in the right place. Then I finally left. When I realized the closest place to eat from here was about a 15-minute walk in 98-degree heat, I was like, 'FORGET THIS!" ya'll know that ain't what I said! Anywho, I made my way back to the restaurant and sat down at the bar. There, I met Megan... She was amazing. During my conversation with Megan, the locals around me realized I wasn't from around these parts. They did their best to enlighten me on the best dishes. They recommended the grouper sandwich with oysters on the half shell... which is right up my alley. I ordered my food and a beer. When the food came out... it was amazing. The correlation between the food and the outside appearance doesn't even come close. Please don't fall into the trap of "if it doesn't look good, then it must not be good!" Looking for a quick bite to eat before I got back on the road to Jacksonville after FAMU's graduation. Bird's food was delicious; however, the kitchen closes early (9:30 pm) so you have to get there before 9:30. I orders a dozen of lightly steamed oysters with Bird's seasoning as an appetizer and they came out hot and fresh. The oysters were large and tasty. I ordered the blackened grouper with onion wings for dinner. The grouper was fresh and seasoned to perfection. I highly recommend Bird's but get there early. The prices are extremely reasonable.

I wanted some oysters while in Tallahassee, so quick search on yelp yielded this place. It definitely is a dive bar and there are plenty of adult beverages that can be had. I opted for a local hard seltzer with my oysters and grouper sandwich. Service was good. I was promptly greeted and seated, menu is provided by QR code, as many establishments use this protocol during covid times. The oysters were very fresh and tasty, accompanied with saltines, cocktail sauce, hot sauce, and horseradish. Super good. The grouper sandwich was cooked well and included everything I wanted. Definitely a great spot!

Hey you guyssssss!!!! First parking lot is a lil tight but once you get a spot, seating was plenty both outside and in. Darious was amazing, attentive, knowledgeable, great convo and a ton of laughs! This is what I would consider a hole in the wall and a total gem! Oysters were fresh, onion rings were crispy and great flavor. My friend was missing ranch as a dip but not a huge deal for me. We enjoyed our time and the good eats! See you next time we're in Tally! Check this place out folks, it's a WIN!

This was everything we could have expected and more. This place was the best little locals-only type of hole in the wall shack that just so happens to sell some damn good burgers and huge, fresh oysters. My parents just so happened to be in town, and I've never been to this place despite living in tally for 3 years now, so I figured now would be the best time. We went on Thursday, which was apparently Karaoke night. We got in at 7, karaoke starts at 9, and it was already PACKED. We sat at one of the shared benches inside. You have to order at the bar, which unfortunately because of how busy it was and short staffed it took a bit longer than normal. But I can't ding them for that, especially when the bartender was really cool, did her job well, and worked her butt off. We got a pitcher of a local draft, dozen oysters, and two 10 oz burgers (my parents split one) The pitcher served around 5 drinks total, so that was a good deal for us with the local draft we chose. The oysters were HUGE and fresh. They were the type that were a little gritty, so if that's not you're style than sorry. We really enjoyed them, and they came with the usual toppings (horseradish, ketchup, lemon). The burgers were even better! Easily best burger I've had in a while! Very juicy and very meaty. The onion rings won over the fries, in my family's opinion. I am SO happy that we went here. We did not stick around for karaoke, but the crowd ready for it made it seem like it would be a really fun night.

We had an amazing first experience at Birds Aphrodisiac! It's definitely worth the hype it gets - because those were the best Oysters I've had in town. Very fresh, no grainy texture and they were huge! My Husband got the Burger and the patty was massive and juicy. We sat outside and it was a lovely little atmosphere sitting outside with the mural and plants around us. Birds also has different events, like music and burlesque acts, and I think that's awesome as well! Definitely a gem in Tallahassee. Only thing I'd suggest that could be better is parking - We would have been here a long time ago, but a few times when we tried...the parking lot was completely packed. You can tell it's a highly desired spot!

Craving a burger or some tasty oysters in the Tallahassee area? Well, this is the place for you!! My pals and I were in need of a post class celebration but we wanted to keep it safe during this pandemic. I was drawn to this place because they have a large outdoor seating area-when we went, the indoor dining area was closed, and the fact that they have one of my favorite foods aka BURGERSS! The staff wear masks, tables were spread out and they clean the tables after each customer. I greatly appreciate their caution during this pandemic and I know many people who also appreciate this! Honestly, I wouldn't go to a restaurant who didn't take these measures. So big kudos to Birds!! Now to the most important part-the food! The concept of their menu was unique. You pick a base of oysters, chicken, burgers, practically anything you can think of and you select how you want them cooked, spices and toppings. I love the creativity behind this menu, it made it fun and custom. My burger was cooked to perfection and the toppings were delicious as well! And the fries, YUM! They were crispy, salty and everything you'd want in a French Fry! The food, service and environment were top notch, I can't wait to come back!

Been awhile since I have came here but they still have what I believe are the best burgers in town. The fries are also great. While it appeared they were short on staff and I noticed a help wanted sign on the door, the two servers that were working did a great job handling all of the tables inside and outside as well as making drinks. I brought some friends who were new to this place and they loved the food here.

This place is cool. I've eaten here a few times all very good but I usually go for the comedy show. I love amateur comedy! Cool vibes and funny people.

Great, funky atmosphere, multi purpose facility. Indoor/outdoor seating. Food was outstanding and service was spectacular.

My friend goes to trivia every Tuesday at this restaurant. Consequently when I went to go visit him, that very Tuesday, I went to go do trivia there with him. While our team lost horribly at trivia, I did manage to drink a cider or two, as well as have some nom noms. This place is typical bar food with the exception of oysters. Given that I was feeling adventurous and the name of the restaurant has oysters in it, I ordered some with a side of fries. Unlike other places, this one gave you the option to have them baked with toppings. I chose half a dozen garlic parmesan oysters and they were delectable. I am shocked beyond belief. Typically I detest oysters, yet I love mussels. I guess the reason being I had never had them cooked. Like seriously speaking - was I living under a rock? At any rate, aside from the food, I managed to get a t-shirt thanks to my friend. It made for a lovely souvenir to a great night. Definitely a place I recommend. Good food, good company, and the décor is quite divey. Bird's is just telling you to have a fab time!

Excellent oysters We had a delicious lunch at this low key bar. The oysters were just terrific - we had them raw and they were plump, fresh and juicy. We loved our grouper sandwich with a large perfectly grilled moist grouper fillet! It was quite reasonably priced too.

We were out and about in Tallahassee yesterday with some good friends visiting from Tampa. Went by the Greek Food Festival - way too crowded to try and eat lunch. Thought we'd introduce our friends to Birds for oysters and burgers. Haven't been for a couple of years. Sat outside as we had a service animal with us. Young man came right over for drink orders. We hadn't even had time to scan menu app. He seemed in a hurry so we ordered a coke and 3 waters. Wife asked where the oysters were from, he said Virginia. Asked him are they good, he said people seem to like them. She ordered a dozen. Rear of group ordered a burger cooked medium , fried shrimp and a grilled grouper sandwich. The 3 entrees arrived and he said he'd go check on the oysters. Little while later he arrive with the oysters. The food was a letdown. Burger was well done, fried shrimp were over cooked, Oysters tasted good but were tiny, almost miniature, the grilled grouper was cooked nicely but way over salty seasoned. Cole slaw was bland and room temperature. Definitely not up to par with previous visits to Birds. What has happened? Very disappointed The bright spot - fries were good!

Service was slow but waiter was nice. Burger and onion rings were over cooked and were not told you had to ask for grouper to be fried. It was comedian night but the jokes were lame and mostly about sex and lifestyles. Sound system sucks. If I go back it will be for oysters only. Ambiance is a hole in the wall place which is ok.

Staying in Tallahassee for the night and living in Chicago I'm. It getting local oysters lol. This place looks like a divvy , dingy, local watering hole. (Usually my favorite for this kind of stuff) they did not disappoint. The place was packed. Plenty of picnic tables out front, good amount of seating inside and I managed to grab a seat at the bar, one of my favorites as usually perched a little higher up for some fantastic people watching. Live band on stage then they were doing a comedy show. (Wed nights) band was pretty awesome so if you need have a conversation with someone go sit outside, otherwise enjoy. They have oysters, oysters and well oysters. There's a few other random things on the menu but that's not why you come here! I started with a 1/2 dz raw and a 1/2 dozen topped with jalapeño , garlic, and parm. Let's just say I had another 2dz. This place is awesome. It's no wonder why it was as busy as it was. Service was stellar as well. This is probably the only thing I'll miss about Tallahassee

Came down to visit my mom and all she wanted was Birds grilled grouper sandwich. As usual it was off the charts. Keep up the great work.

So yummy. Love the divey atmosphere. We sat at the bar and both guys were super attentive. Totally worth the drive for an oyster or 12!!

I love this place!!!!!!!! I have NEVER had a bad time here. The expression, "The vibes are immaculate" was made for this place. Comedy nights are the best and the dranks are strooooooongggggg. I miss this place so much

Pretty oyster oriented, average local place. Outdoor seating and good service. The grouper sandwich is overpriced and average but better than anywhere else in town. Frenchy's in Tampa/Clearwater is hard to beat.

Love this place. Food is great and fresh and everything is reasonably priced. PSA if you're looking to go eat there with family, avoid going on Thursdays. That's karaoke night lol
