Birria tacos and quesadillas, plus ramen and pizza, are offered at this casual eatery.
"Birria Kings, which already runs two successful mobile outposts in the South Bay, is adding a more permanent location to its domain and taking over the space that formerly housed ¡Salud! Tacos in National City at 2333 Highland Avenue. Known for its great take on Tijuana-style birria, characterized by using beef in lieu of the cuts of goat preferred in other regions of Mexico, the birria pros do regular pop-ups at local breweries and have trucks parked at 642 E Street and 635 Oxford Street which serve a menu based on the slow-cooked meat and its richly spiced consome including tacos, quesadillas, mulitas, tortas, and burritos. Other specialty items include birria ramen and 14-inch birria “pizza”. While the opening date for the National City restaurant hasn’t been announced yet, this outpost will reportedly offer beer along with its birria dishes and plans to be open daily with late night hours on weekends. Keep an eye on their Instagram page for more information." - Mario A. Cortez
