"Taking over the former ¡Salud! Tacos space at 2333 Highland Avenue in National City, Birria Kings — which already runs two successful mobile outposts in the South Bay — is adding a permanent location. I'm impressed by their Tijuana-style birria, which uses beef instead of the goat cuts preferred in other regions of Mexico, and they regularly do pop-ups at local breweries; they also keep trucks parked at 642 E Street and 635 Oxford Street that serve a menu built around slow-cooked meat and a richly spiced consomé, including tacos, quesadillas, mulitas, tortas, and burritos. Other specialty items include birria ramen and a 14-inch birria “pizza.” While the opening date hasn't been announced, the National City outpost is reported to offer beer and plans to be open daily with late-night hours on weekends — keep an eye on their Instagram for updates." - Mario A.
