I've had a birria craving the last couple weeks, and a coworker suggested this place for me to try and satisfy my craving. This is a recommendation I don't regret trying out one bit!
Finding the place was a little tricky. The front doors were gated shut, and the entrance was behind in an alleyway where they set up shop in the parking lot with an outdoor tent and ample outdoor seating.
With no lick of Spanish fluency to my name, ordering was an adventure in communicating what I wanted: a half order of birria to go. The sweet server did her very best to help me, and with my pointing skills I was able to get my order across with her. Since I went right before the lunch rush, I only waited 5 minutes for my order!
Everything was packed separately and neatly: the consome was in its own cup, the diced onion, cilantro and lime in a small bag, the birria in a small foil tray, and the tortillas wrapped in foil. A spicy salsa side was included as well.
The birria was just pure perfection. The goat was super tender and flavorful, with barely a hint of gamey taste to it. It wasn't fatty or burnt, which I really liked. The consome was full of Mexican spices and nicely salted. With the consome soaking the goat meat with the diced onions, cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice, the whole dish was a rich explosion of spicy, fresh, and flavorful ingredients. The handmade tortilla were piping hot and paired so well with the birria, it tasted like the best tacos in LA for a moment when I ate them together!
I ended up having leftover birria that became another meal for me, and it went perfectly with rice. Altogether, words can't describe how amazing the birria here is. It's absolutely worth trying and coming back for over and over again. I'll be coming here again if my birria cravings strike again!
