Birrieria Don Jose

I was looking for a Mexican food place that serves pozole and one that was open early in the morning after a doctors appointment I had in Chandler. Birriera Don Jose checked those requirements off! I got pozole to go since I had a three hour drive back back to the White Mountains ahead of me. When I got home, I poured it out into a bowl and noticed the perfect amount of everything I love about pozole pour into the bowl. The only very minor complaint I had was that I wish it had cabbage in it or some that would come on the side with it. Shredded cabbage gives it that perfect soft, crunchy combination. All in all, it was delicious though! 🤤🤤🤤

My husband and I came here for lunch today and it was absolutely amazing! I had the birrieria quesadilla and it was HUGE, flavorful, and honestly the best I’ve ever had. My husband got some tacos and loved them so much he said this place beats out his favorite taco spot! The service was friendly and fast, and the whole experience was perfect. We will definitely be coming back again soon—highly recommend!

I’ve been here a few times, each time was better than the last. The staff is friendly with big smiles, they were helpful in explaining the menu. Even checked on us a few bites into our meal to make sure we didn’t need anything else. 10/10 recommend

If you’re looking for the best birria in town, Don José’s Birriería is the place! The birria is melt-in-your-mouth tender and packed with incredible flavor. Their Sonoran hot dogs are next-level delicious—loaded, perfectly grilled, and bursting with flavor in every bite. And don’t even get me started on their horchata… it’s creamy, refreshing, and absolutely to die for.

Good quesabirria, could use more cheese but overall great! Birria ramen was delicious.

Now this might just because I’m white lol but the atmosphere was questionable the looks i got coming in and ordering made ya feel unwelcome also asked for a fork and was ignored so again idk if it was a language barrier or what . Now to the good part the food was amazing fresh great flavor .

The tacos here at Don Jose are fantastic! This place was recommended by some relatives and it did not disappoint. The rice and beans were really good. I knew the food here was going to be delicious a soon as we walked through the door. The smell of the food brought a smile to my face. Service was pleasant and fast. If you’re looking for outstanding Mexican food this is the place! The parking is limited but we parked in the lot right next door which wasn’t busy at all.

I eat tacos. No really like an obsession. I had to double order my food because of how good the pastor and the pollo asada tacos are. They sold out of there carnitas so now I'm on a mission. Other people who ate with me all agreed a top notch spot to get good food.

I saw a friend recently post a ton a food from here and it looked yummy so I decided to give it a try. The tortillas were freshly made! I love corn and they were perfect. The birria ramen was the best I've had in the valley! Love that they have chilli oil salsa. I want to try other menu items next time. Staff was friendly. Cute spot. Front Parking lot is small- prepare for that. I will be back!

Place is super good Has really good birria tender and juicy The tacos are pretty big the price is reasonable And the atmosphere is welcoming They have a salsa bar which is awesome u get ur own choice of salsas and pickled carrots and etc..

Was in the mood for some quesabirria tacos and decided to check out this place. Hubby and I both ordered #4- 2 quesabirria tacos with consomme $9.35. I thought the price was really fair and was really looking forward to it. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. As I was waiting, I got some salsa and pickled vegs from their self serve salsa bar which was great. When the food arrived, I was anticipating an umami bomb from the quesadilla tacos but they were disappointing. There was plenty meat but just didn't have the flavor depth and hardly any cheese. Also the tacos weren't crispy at all and the inner tortilla fell apart when I dipped it in the consomme. Service was kind and the ladies working were nice so I'd still give them another try and go back and try something else.

Stopped in to get some quesabirria tacos and ordered their #4 which comes with two quesabirria tacos and a consomme. The tacos have a double layer tortilla which made it eat extremely dry and when I dipped it in the consomme it just felt apart. There was like no cheese anywhere either. Unfortunately this would not be my recommendation.

Karen has amazing customer service. The ambiance in here is that of a Mexican restaurant at a Mercado. Nice cozy energy. The food is delicious, the tacos and potato were on point. The sopes are also delicious. Steak is well cooked, and seasoned. They have their own parking. Restrooms, aguas frescas and Mexican sodas. Enough parking next to a neveria (Mexican ice cream parlor).

This place is a favorite for us. We are huge quesabirria fans. This is by far our favorite place for them. The food is so delicious and the consome is delicious. The staff and service is very friendly. The ambiance is great Becuase it's just an authentic experience not fancy and ritzy just a place you go and say oh you know this place is gonna be good.

I was disappointed with the food at Birrieria Don Jose. My husband and I have been looking for a nearby taco spot that we would like to frequent, but unfortunately we do not plan to go back here. The quesabirria was okay, but not great. The consume looked somewhat brown and murky vs the red color that I would expect. The quesadilla was nothing special. I did not like the flavor of the al pastor meat. Our friend ordered the tacos and it looked like they just reheated some meat. It did not seem fresh. Even the salsa bar looked sad. The server was nice and friendly. She mentioned we could pay with cash and have a discount. When we asked what the discount was vs paying with card, she did not know. There was plenty of seating inside, but it was outdated.

The quesabirria melted in my mouth it was so good! The corn tortillas are also so fresh and made from scratch. We had Al pastor and carne asada tacos which were excellent and a carne asada burrito which was huge and so amazing. It was supper clean inside and they had a serve yourself salsa bar. All the salsas were so good and not supper spicy. Highly recommend!

Well I need to say this place has darn good Birrieria tacos. I know that this type of taco has grown in popularity the last couple years. This place does them right. Great salsas along with a tasty consume make these near perfect. The price is more than reasonable for their two quesabirrieria tacos with consume.

If you're craving good authentic Mexican food, this is the place! I'm visiting from LA and didn't think that a place here in AZ would be that good but this was! We ordered a family meal for 4, which included 2 lbs of meat, rice beans, salsa, homemade tortillas and guacamole. The Birria is definitely the number one choice here. We also ordered Barbacoa, which wasn't bad, but kind of soggy and watery, which I'm not used to but it was ok. Barbacoa is usually steamed so it shouldn't be so wet. The taste was good though! I wasn't a fan of the champurrado, which is like a Mexican hot chocolate. It was too thick, because they were warming it up aka it was from yesterday and not fresh. We didn't really drink it, as it was like drinking a thick paste. The Agua Fresca, though on the sweet side was good though! Also, the guacamole side was RIDICULOUSLY small. Like a tiny salsa container and not worth even including as it's not enough... like 2 spoonfuls. My family enjoyed the meal and I'll definitely be back!

Don't sleep on this place very very authentic food, salsas, aguas frescas, we had the tripas and quesa birria amazing everything fresh, place has a great vibe staff is very friendly and accommodating if you haven't tried them what you waiting for

I don't understand why this place is not 5 stars. I am a certified customer that can attest this is the best place to get Taco's outside of Mexico City. A new pop-up is in town about a Michelin Star restaurant in Tempe. Had it, not it. Maybe go there if needed. Had an issue with an order a year ago. Called the store and Eric made sure it never happened again. Seriously best tacos north of the border. Try then judge for yourself!

My two friends and I came here when I stopped back in town and they know tacos are my favorite food. We found this place with good reviews and birria tacos, which are also a favorite of mine. The outside is easy to find as the building is bright orange and the inside is huge with ample seating and a very authentic decor. Your order up at the front and they bring you your food. I had the two birria tacos with consome. WOW, the birria was soft and flavorful and the shells were nice and crispy. I also like that they were queso tacos with the melted cheese, my absolute favorite. I also had a carne asada taco, which was phenomenal. The carne asada had a strong flavor and the meat was excellent quality. The taco had onions and cilantro and the lady was nice enough to give me a huge side of pico de Gallo. The pico was super yummy and added great to the taco. I loved their salsa bar and the green salsa was the perfect amount of flavor and spicy. I also had a side of rice and the rice was delicious. Authentic with peas and okra, which I really enjoyed. My friends were also impressed. My friend had the burrito and it was twice the size of her head. My other friend had tacos as well. The tacos are authentic and street sized but they do not skimp on stuffing them and they are quite filling, I had leftovers. I would definitely visit again!!

Ordered on app. Food never arrived and when I called, she told me another 30 minutes after already waiting an hour and twenty minutes. No communication

This is a true street taco place. It's outside looming right on Arizona street. We sat at a table under a overing. We ordered from a trailer. The gentleman helping us was very nice and friendly. We had a few plates of cheese amd beef tacos with a yummy dipping sauce plus two beef tacos. They were very tasty and we adders cilantro., onions and hot sauce. A few of us have been wanting to try this place for years. Glad we did And we will return.

Never judge a book by its cover is a good description of this restaurant. As you pull into the parking area, you would not expect the interior to be as spacious as it appears since the lot es un poco chico. There are many menu options and I went for the birria recommendations. The birria plate was delicious, with the meat being tender, soft and flavorful. At first I thought there was an insufficient portion of beef until I moved the lettuce and onions. The rice and beans were just ok. I like my beans smoother, a little runny, and no cheese and preferably, homemade by my friend's mother-in-law. My friend ended up getting the five taco combo plate with al pastor and asada. He knows Mexican food as well and the caramelized onions were a big hit. They also have a salsa bar. They have ample seating, and if you want to feel taller, sit on the chair side versus the bench seating. I went specifically, for the birria and was not disappointed. I will have to return, again because I love consommé. there are many quality Mexican restaurants in this area and I think they serve a quality product. If you haven't been here, the quesabirrias look delicious too!

Outstanding. Very authentic flavors. With the ambience it's like we're in Mexico. Not fancy decor, not fancy food. Simple. But that's what authentic Mexican food is. There is a place in Mexico that was a bit better, in my opinion. But in Chandler? This is some of the best we've had. They also have flan and tres leches. Didn't try it this time, but it's on my list...

Birria tacos were very good. Loved the consommé too. Hottest sauce had a nice amount of heat. First time here and will definitely be back!

So good! We got two of the quesabirria tacos with consommé. They came out super steamy and fresh! The shells were crispy and they add a solid amount of birria. We also got the asada quesadilla which was also delicious. Everything was flavorful, and we'd definitely come back!

It was 9pm, and my boyfriend and I were craving Mexican food after a fun night of walking around town on New Year's Day. On our way back to Chandler, this was one of few places open. It was small and looked a little-run down on the inside. However, the bathrooms were clean. The staff were also friendly and hardworking (Highly recommend bringing some cash to tip because they more than deserve it!). We decided to get takeout but unfortunately could not hear much when we called. No worries though; we still stopped in to order 2 chicken taco plates to-go. We were served quickly within 10-15 minutes, and everything was wrapped and packaged neatly to take home. Whether you're dining in or taking out, remember to grab your own salsas and extra beans at the condiments station. My personal favorite was the light green salsa (which I believe was cilantro lime?). I recommend getting the plates instead of the 5 taco meal because you get to build your own tacos and add as much rice, beans, meat, and salsa on top. The beans were my favorite part of the meal--rich, creamy, and hearty. There was a lot of meat, and I had some leftover after using up my 3 corn tortillas (which were still hot after the 15 minute drive home). Highly recommend for some quick, yummy dishes made with love!

It's a big yellow restaurant on Arizona ave and Galveston... We came as soon as they opened.. The lady at the counter was friendly.. we ordered Asada Quesadilla and Birria... my husband said the quesadilla was bland , he said he wanted to get salsa and stuff from The salsa bar but there wasn't that much options to choose from ... I ordered the Birria which was good but honestly I had better... I wouldn't mind coming back to try something else though... it seemed like they had the usual customers that came every weekend..

Came to Birrieria Don Jose for lunch with some colleagues. I didn't know what Birrieria was but I've seen it popping up on Mexican food menus all over so apparently it's the hot new food! I went with a five street-taco plate and a large horchata and days later the flavor of those Birrieria tacos unexpectedly invades my thoughts. I had two Birrieria tacos, two chicken and a carne asada and they were all great. Definitely recommend

Big time birria taco lover and this place has some of the best in the valley hands down. Consume has tons of flavor and they don't skimp on it.

1st time visit had the 5 taco combo and carne asada super nachos. Proteins were fresh and had good flavoring. Cook did change gloves often. Chairs and booths are a bit outdated, restaurant lightning was on the dimmer side. Men's and Women's restroom were clean.

Authentic and delicious Mexican food! The quesabirria is an absolute standout, with tender, juicy meat enveloped in perfectly melted cheese and crisp tortillas. The standard tacos are also delicious. The salsa bar has a variety of salsas, some of which are pretty spicy! Highly recommend Don Jose.

This might be the best shredded beef burrito I've ever had, and I've had a plethora of burritos. You must try the birria. It is amazingly tender and tasty, soaked in a delicious juicy red sauce. It is heaven in a tortilla. The service is fantastic too. Legit authentic taqueria, the best in the area, which is saturated with taco shops. Might be the best in AZ. I simply cannot give this place's meat justice with words. Go try it.

So not hesitate! Although from the outside doesnt look like it, this place is bomb AF! Very authentic and the birria will have you licking your fingers. There osnt table service so you have to order at the counter, they'll bring it out when its ready. This isnt the type of place that has a full bar, just good food and great agua frescas...but trust me when I say, dont order a large, they are massive! Overall this place is chill, a quick sit and eat then bounce kind of place. I would definitely come back.

I ordered the family pack meal with 3 lb meat through UberEats. It comes with a lot of rice and beans, but a very very small side of green salsa and red salsa. They also don't give you any pico de gallo or any onions with cilantro, but I feel like they should. Any other Mexican restaurants I've been to that offer family pack always do so I was pretty disappointed. We also got some corn tortillas but I prefer flour tortillas. I'm not sure if they will change that for you but I didn't see an option to change it on UberEats. I'd say I was happy with the food overall but I'd probably search for a different taco place first then come back to this one if there's nothing better in the area.

This place is amazing! Everytime we come to Chandler, we eat here. Every single thing they serve is incredible. I've eaten here probably 7-8 times in the last two years & I am from Texas. We expect great Mexican food.

My first visit to Birrieria Don Jose was great. The service was excellent and very friendly. The location is very convenient and easy to find. I really like locally owned places like this. We had several tacos including the carne asada, pastor and birria. All were excellent and I plan to visit again! I highly recommend Don Jose!

This has become the go to and restaurant I recommend to all my friends for authentic Mexican food in Chandler. Everything from the breakfast burritos, queso birria tacos, carna asada fries.. to the horchata & churros is top notch and always fresh and made to order. I highly recommend the queso burria tacos and breakfast burritos as they are my favorites. Everything is very reasonably priced and they don't nickel and dime you like other spots. They service is always great along with the friendly and welcoming staff. The food coupled with the ambiance makes you feel like you are at home. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. Don't sleep on Birrieria Don Jose!

Not good i go there its always good for 15$ they have papa loca it has two potatoes with choice of meat i get carne asada now they give you for same price one old papa with chips little meat and half of onion not worth it

So so so good! Hands down the Best Birria I've ever had. Was not a fan till now. I didn't know but now I see. Our new post Puro tradition.

Our family has come to this restaurant four or five times now. The quesabirrierias are the favorite of my family. My personal favorite is their homemade fruit Agua Fresca with apples and bananas and strawberries so yummy and refreshing! It's like a fruit bowl with a drink!! Of all the places I have had agua Fresca cause I have never had this one. They make a good street taco plate as well. Sauces are fairly mild and that's OK for my family. On the salsa bar they also include an avocado salsa, radish, spicy carrots, cucumbers and bean soup. We love that they are open fairly late compared to the other taco places so whenever we get a craving we can go !! I took off one star for ambience. The shrimp taco is HUGE with rice in it ( never had it that way before, next time no rice fir me) We went in there in the winter and ate there. It was freezing cold. I don't know if the heater was broken, but it was freezing in there. Nothing fancy just great food.

The food was bomb, the smells were bomb. Definitely a nice hidden away place to go for tacos.

We ordered take out last night. 2 women and 2 children. It was a bit pricey but oooohhh so worth it! We loved the food! I had 2 Birrieria tacos that were fantastic and a carne asada burrito that was awesome! I still had half left for lunch the next day. My friend also loved the Birrieria tacos. The little boys got carne Asada fries, which they loved! They could have split one but both had food for the next day. Over all this food was fantastic! Highly recommend!

I heard this place was good so I drove 25 minutes from Gilbert to Mesa, went through the drive thru. The service was awesome, the price was great!! We drove all the way back home, our food was still hot and so delicious!

This is a nice little spot. I found this place on tik tok and honestly didn't think i'd enjoy it. However, the food was delicious and the staff was super friendly. I'm certainly going to come back here in the near future. Only complaint I would have is the super small parking lot they have...

This place is primo! I highly recommend the Birrieria and the pastor tacos. The salsa bar is great and the pickled carrots and onions really make the meal. Top it off with a grilled jalapeño and it's Mexican food the way it is meant to be. Listo!

Small cozy locale with a handful of tables inside, very limited parking in the front. We tried the quesabirria tacos with consume, horchata and the tacos mixos plate. The asada taco was the best with birria and barbacoa coming in close second. All tacos had a good helping of meat and served on delicious corn tortillas. Would definitely eat here again
