Birrieria Pepe El Toro

Ayaayayaye! Woohoo! This was hands down a very very comforting and well executed meal. We had the luxe platter of Quesadilla Bundle, which has mini quesadilla, two quesabirria tacos, rice and beans, oh and a soda. We added a mini birria ramen *chef’s kiss*. The birria was tender and delicious, non-gamy, fragrant of warm spices, just enough fat on the broth. The street birria tacos had the right “wetness” that makes you slurp up when you bite down. The quesabirria was our favorite, I think they use Oaxaca cheese, it’s so stringy and the right amount of condiments! We followed Maritza’s recommendation to get the cucumber watermelon aguafresca and the marzipan flan… *drool overload* sooooo good! Our new favorite birria place. And yes, we asked, they DO HAVE MULITAS!!

Absolutely delicious! The sweet lady who took my order was so friendly and inviting. I ordered the watermelon/cucumber drink and the birria tacos combo which included the consomé. Everything was hot, the tacos had a lot of birria and cheese, the consomé had good flavor to it, and I really liked the free sauce bar they have. You must come try.

What is this place?!? Taqueria? Birria lovers dream? Family? Yep! Went in about an hour before closing and was greeted immediately upon entering. The menu is simple and very reasonably priced. The positions are VERY generous and the food is incredible. There is also something special about the atmosphere. The way it’s been decorated. The little touches everywhere. It felt - like you just got invited into someone’s home for a meal. The service felt that same way. Enter Brenda - part owner of this amazing establishment. Her energy and joy are infectious. She added so much to our dining experience. It was as if she had invited us to be guests at her home and couldn’t wait to share the passion in the food and the dream of this place. This isn’t just a place to go because you like tacos, or if you know and love birria, or because it’s open. This is a place to go to experience a hug in the form of food. It’s a place to go if you’re missing home meals. It’s a place to go to thank people like Brenda and her family for putting this much joy in the world and soak a little up for yourself. I stumbled in and didn’t know what birria was. The host was so friendly and welcomed me with an explanation. Food quality is superb! Warm, comforting, cheesy, meaty taco dipped in hot broth, with all the fixings. Delish!

This place honestly feels like a true hidden gem for Mexican food! I’m not Latino, so I’m not super familiar with Latin American cuisine, but this was my first time learning about a soup dish called birrieria. It was slightly spicy with a rich, flavorful broth—totally new to me. Eating it with tacos was a completely different experience, in the best way. The tacos were packed with meat, so it felt absolutely worth the price. I also liked that they served cucumber on the side—it was a nice touch. The quesadilla was also generously filled with meat. We ordered just two menu items between the two of us, and we were completely full. They served the birrieria broth with the meal, and if you’re looking to try something new, I’d definitely recommend it. I visited at 3:50 PM, which was technically outside of their posted hours, but they still took my order—and I really appreciated that kindness. It was also interesting to see how many people started coming in after 4 PM—it definitely seems like this place is about to get really popular. Overall, parking was easy, and the inside of the restaurant was clean and well-kept. The woman who runs the place explained what birrieria is, and that made me feel even more connected to the food and the restaurant. She was incredibly kind and welcoming. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This place is soooooo good! Food is flavorful but not too salty. You can taste their love for food. Kudos to Maritza for being an awesome host!

The carne asada tacos might be the best tacos I've ever had, which I do not say lightly! They use a half-cornmeal, half-flour tortilla that is fried to a perfect texture that's hard to describe. The filling is a textural delight as well as a flavor festival with crispy edges of seared beef. It's a perfect taco.

SO SO SO SO SO GOOD! all of theyre tavos are so delicious!! they're queso birria are so good (i would reccomend getting the combo so they just come with the consume- its so worth it!). theyre non-birria tacos are also to die for! i really like the asada and al pastor (which has such a nice crisp!). the salasa bar is also so fire! the staff are also always so kind and helpful! love this place!! highly recommend!

Super cute restaurant with great food! Sadly I stopped by at 1:50pm on a Tuesday for lunch not realizing they were closing from 2-4pm so I had to take to go but since it was sunny I found a nice bench in the U district to enjoy. Food was packed neatly in the bag with 2 napkins. Service is friendly. You order at the register and they will bring your food to you to go or dine in. They have booths, tables, and some outdoor seating. Plenty of cute decor inside. I felt the vibes were cozy, fun, and overall laid back. I ordered one carne asada mulita y #1 Quesa-Birria Tacos Combo. They ask if you ore okay with cilantro and onion I guess for the picky people which is kind but threw me off because heck yeah I need that cilantro y cebolla on my tacos. I was given plenty of lime wedges y salsa rojo. The food was super tasty and well presented. Only cons for me was I wish the mulita had avocado in it and the consome had a little more flavor but still super delicious meal. Definitely a tasty lunch or dinner spot with good portions.

In my humble opinion, Seattle's premier burria spot. I came here with a group of friends, and ordered the burria ramen and single quesaburria. The food came quickly, and the staff were very friendly. The quesaburria was exactly as I wanted, cheesy, filled with generous amounts of meat, and great overall. The burria ramen in particular intrigued me, and letting my curiosity get the better of me, I ordered it, and I am glad that I did! It came with a huge portion of burria topped over a super flavorful broth, and I was really surprised at how good the noodles were, and how the whole dish seemed to just fit,despite being a mesh of several cultural cuisines. I'll definitely be back here with friends!

Great food, ambiance and service! Our food came out within 10 minutes and the portions are HUGE! I got the Birria Ramen and I swear half of it was filled with meat. I absolutely devoured the chicken taco and the queso-birria looked delectable-- perfect golden brown. Everything was well-seasoned and all of the vegetables/greens (onion, cilantro, salsas, etc) tasted really fresh. The lady at the counter was very sweet and kind. She let us know where everything was (water, sauces, etc) and was very patient while we were deciding what to get. All tables and entire dining area looked very clean as well, I would really recommend this place to those who live near the Ave!

Oh. My. Birria. This little spot on University Way is an absolute MUST. Never, in my decades on this earth, have I had such an amazing Birria Taco nor such a fantastic Birria Experience! The tacos: fire. The vibe: High. The service: elevated. The price: more than reasonable. Birrieria Pepe el Toro, the place where dreams come true. Mark my words, I will be back!

Excellent Birria Tacos!! The corn tortillas so fresh, cheese ooey gooey, meat super tender, broth perfectly spiced. Dining area was very clean, salsa bar had lots of options, and staff were so accommodating. My mom eats like a toddler so they made her a special non spicy beef taco, after she told them the chicken was too spicy, no charge. 10/10 recommend! We will be back, without my mom

Holy smokes, this was excellent. The place is charming and the service is fast, friendly and proud of their food(rightfully so). The food came out in less than ten minutes. I got the sampler tacos and each one was unique and loaded with meat. I could only eat 2 of the tacos. Super filling. My only wish is a beer would have been great, but maybe down the line they will get a liquor license. Highly recommend.

Wow, thanks to other Yelpers and fellow Elite/IGer Carol C, for putting this spot on my radar screen! Because of other perishable items I had in the car, I could not dine onsite at this upper Ave (56th & University Way/UDistrict) spot. This used to be a Brazilian spot, soup site, and burger joint...now home to a great indie, Birrieria Pepe El Toro. Angled 2 hour street parking out front and on Metro bus routes. Very comfy with AC and definitely Frida Kahlo forward interior decor. Welcoming person at the main counter. Ordered the Queso Birria Quesadilla as takeout ($16). This came with cucumber slices, red & green salsa, lime wedge, consumé, and a very generously sized filled quesadilla. It had the best of both worlds of my fave quesadilla spot near Gas Works Park & my fave birria spot in Burien. Succulent, flavorful, omg hit the spot! I look forward to dining onsite, but good to taste the quality from this takeout order!

My boyfriend and I shared some queso birria and al pastor tacos yesterday, and overall, we enjoyed the experience. The tacos were great, though the birria wasn't the best we've ever had--it is the best we've found in Seattle so far, which says a lot. We wouldn't go out of our way for them, but if we're in the area and craving tacos, we'll definitely be back. That said, they really do load up the tacos, which I appreciate, and the consomé was flavorful and delicious. I also loved the self-serve salsa bar--it's always a nice touch. The service was exactly what I needed: quick and efficient, nothing over the top. As for the ambiance, it's a solid spot for a quick, casual dinner with friends--comfortable and perfect for a taco fix.

We were looking for the food truck and was pleasantly surprised to find their dine in restaurant that has been opened since February 2024. In search of birria tacos, this place hit the spot. We got the quesa birria tacos, birria quesadilla and combo sampler. The three of us were quiet while eating, so that tells me we all enjoyed the meal! The birria seemed like it could use a little more seasoning. The accompanying hot sauce helped to add some heat. The watermelon with cucumber agua fresca was refreshing. Horchata is my daughter's go to. Service was friendly and prompt.

I loved the environment! The restaurant had great decor, optimal space, and friendly/efficient staff. The presentation of the food was lovely and everything looked very pleasing. The birria itself was pretty good. Comparing it to birria I have had before, it was not as flavorful, and the consome was a bit bland. However, I would definitely go again when I am craving some birria.

I really enjoyed the food everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The birria tacos stood out, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back! If I could give more than five stars, I would.

If I could recommend one Mexican restaurant in Seattle, it'd be this one! They specialize in birrieria and have a focused menu, but their beef and pork protein options are both well seasoned and not overcooked. The portion sizes are huge. When I get the burrito I usually have lunch leftover for the next day. They have nice seating inside with seasonal decor.

Food was delicious (sorry no photos) ordered the quesadillas-Birria tacos, veggie tacos to go and aguafresca after a work party at the community garden. Hit the spot bang on. Took them back up to the garden to eat. All was delicious and making me think of a good excuse to swing by and get another one. Were quite a few folks in there for 2pm on a baking hot Sunday afternoon but they got my food to me quickly. All was top notch and very reasonably priced.

A very cute space with fun music and a lovely hostess. I tried the quest-birria taco combo (3 tacos and consommé) and couldn't be happier. Crispy taco shell, stuffed with tender beef and perfectly melty cheese. The combination of textures adorned with the warm, flavorful consommé was everything I could have asked for on a cold Winter evening. Looking forward to trying everything else on the menu!

This is the best birria I've tried in Seattle!! So juicy and flavorful and they have a salsa bar so you can customize your food. The restaurant is small and has nice decoration and the woman who took our order was very nice. We had a great meal for a good price and we will be back!

I've been waiting to try this place for awhile and it didn't disappoint. Might be one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. The beef is so delicious, like beef buttery goodness, inside of a corn tortilla with cheese. I'm drooling just thinking back on eating them. The consommé that I didn't soak up on my delicious tacos I drank after. We tried the birria ramen as well, delicious! The watermelon and cucumber agua fresca so fresh and delicious. The staff are so kind and so excited to share their food. You can tell a lot of love has gone into it. Run don't walk to this place.

Yumm! So glad there is a place nearby to stop in for bomb tacos. I got the quesabirria, carne asada, and chicken tacos. All were great but I was really feeling the chicken one Staff is super friendly and it's a cute spot.

News flash: this place ain't closed!! I repeat, not closed, and thankfully so! You have to follow their Instagram page to know which brewery they will be at. This was my first birrieria experience, and holy crap, this was amazing. Hands down probably my favorite food truck I've been to in Seattle. The staff are super friendly and nice, and they even provided us tips on how to eat these tacos. PRO TIP which honestly hit home: instead of actually dipping the tacos in the consumé (broth), TAKE A BITE OF THE TACO AND SIP THE CONSUMÉ AFTERWARDS. The flavors of the broth are so much more pronounced and simply warms the soul. But you do you (but I will 100% will sip from now on) So onto the tacos. My wife and I got four each, two quesotacos and two birria tacos. We both preferrred the queso tacos over the regular birria ones, but they were all amazing. The meat was so tender and moist, and it all just melted in our mouths. Plus, if you want a spicy kick, their sauce is pretty damn awesome. I also loved how they threw in cucumbers as a cooling agent to contrast all that heat! My only critique is that 1. I wish they provided more limes, and 2. That they added more cilantro and onions. But these are paltry requests within the grand scope of things. Oh man, oh man, this place set an incredibly high bar for birria tacos. These tacos, paired along a pint of cold beer, was a meal of true delight. I will be back to hunt for some more in the near future.

By the time I was able to check this truck out they were nearly sold out. I was able to get a couple of quesa tacos though and that's enough to tell me you have to get more! Fast, friendly, and delicious!

They just opened a physical location a few weeks ago, lots of parking, very clean renovated space (remember when this location was a Brazilian restaurant). They have a great kids menu - and food is as good as I remembered their truck to be! Saw a lot of takeout when we did dine in. Super friendly staff. Got #1 combo (most popular), and #3 (sampler - also great way to try a bunch), plus kids quesadilla. They did have a family option that is good if you had 6 adults, maybe try next time with a larger group.

The best Birria from a food truck I've ever had hands down! This place is legit and delicious! They have limes and cucumber slices with tajin on them (delicious!) on the side. It's not cheap, as others have noted, but the flavors are spot making it worth it. I had left over consome so I brought it home and added it to my own instant ramen for the win!

Real deal birrieria in the U District. Near constant stream of birria freaks getting the tacos to go. I stupidly opted for a take out burrito for when I got home, and it was delicious, but I'm guessing the traditional quesabirria tacos (with red broth) are the way to go. Can't wait to go back!

Best. Birria. In. Seattle. Hands down! Have gone to the food truck several times already, catching them at the various breweries that they visit in the area. They also make lunch time visits at various offices. They have schedule on their website that is updated regularly. They also have two trucks to spread the love even more. The birria is so delicious and the consumé is excellent; incredible flavor profiles. You simply just have to go and try it. It'll have you following the truck around weekly. Their menu has variations such as birria torta (which is often sold out due to popularity, birria quesadilla, birria tacos, etc. A great food to have with some cold beer They do offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options as well. Please support this awesome group of people! They are always so kind and happy to see you.

Best birria I've had since moving to Seattle. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the consomé! Their horchata was so good we got another to go! The place is clean and cute with some nice decorations. The staff is welcoming and friendly! Recommend to anyone looking for some fire food! Definitely will be coming back to try the Ramen Birria!!

The problem with food trucks is that they are on wheels. So naturally they move around. The problem with the internet is that it lies. So you try to find the wheely food truck on the internet and then you drive there--and it doesn't matter how far you drive for food this good. You just have to do it because it's birria tacos so just drive--there is no food truck and you have to go to McDonalds or something. But if you can find it: it's the very best.

This food truck comes to Browns Point near our house & we anxiously mark it on our calendars every time it's scheduled to be there. Absolutely delicious - never disappointed. You HAVE to try the Birria Ramen - it's incredible.

"Birria" tacos with floppy, cold, and unseasoned tortillas that took forever... total bummer. On top of that, the consomme is not served with the tacos, and is a $3 extra which is ridiculous given the price point. The hot sauce was excellent, which is pretty much the only positive part. Definitely go elsewhere for better birria.

Just went to the new University District location, was absolutely delicious! Birria came in so many different forms. Highly recommend the sampler plate, and the french dip sandwich style was also fantastic. Very filling! Staff super nice, clean location, had a lovely evening.

Prices were reasonable, but the beef was super bland and left us with acid reflux for the next 24 hours. Wouldn't eat again. Our service was excellent though and everything was packaged well. Maybe we caught them on a bad day

These birria tacos were so tasty and flavorful. Just a heads up that this is a food truck and you should give them a call before you head up there so they can tell you where they are located for the night. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant out I've been looking for these tacos in Seattle and I'm so happy I discovered them I believe they're new so I hope they can get some more reviews.

Delicious and flavorful birria, consommé is very good. Food truck prices are very elevated in comparison to other cities (ie I paid $12 for three tacos!) but for Seattle this is typical--plus I get the privilege to support families who are making their cultural foods rather than paying for overpriced fake ethnic food that I've been dismayed to see being sold by other food truck owners.

Yelp says this place is closed but it isn't. It's a food truck so look for them on instagram and they'll have hours and locations. I got 4 quesatacos and consomme combo, which was enough for 2 people and left us very happy. Their salsa was the highlight for me. I'm looking forward to coming back.

First time having this style of taco. Loved it! And yes, agreed, the salsa was excellent, it was the perfect amount of spice and still mild, and the broth dip really is excellent and surprised I've never had this before! Highly recommend.

This food truck seriously slaps. Just got tacos from some other food truck the other night and was quite disappointed. This completely redeemed tacos for me. I was looking for some kind of vegetarian option and they let me know they ran out of their vegetarian options already. They made me a special torta with potatoes and it was perfect. THIS TRUCK IS NOT CLOSED! And I'm so glad it isn't lol, this is definitely some of the best Mexican food I've had in Seattle. We lived in LA for about four years prior to coming back up north so our expectations for good Mexican are extremely high. I've been hunting for a good place for MONTHS but this is the first place I've tried that can actually compete with Mexican food in the southwestern US. In fact, I'd go so far as to say this beats a couple of the places we frequented back in LA. I ordered the quesadilla with the consomme on the side, my boyfriend ordered the queso-birria taco platter, and we grabbed some nachos for the table as well. The quesadilla was BOMB, the meat was so tender and flavorful and I was literally drinking the consomme. They definitely didn't skimp on the meat for the nachos either . . . although I do wish they used a different kind of cheese other than nacho cheese to top it, but that's just preference. My only critique is that I do wish you could add some rice and beans on the side, but honestly this place is so good I don't realyl care lol. I'll definitely be hunting them down again, I wish they'd come to Capitol Hill!

Im from socal and the birria there has nothing on ma boy. The sauce tortillas consume is perfecto. Meat grilled to perfeccion. If your near the breweries hit ma boy up and spend your money cause it is worth it 1000%.
