I should be grading my students' stats assignments, but I'd rather write this review because this restaurant is getting a perfect score! We have so many good restaurants in the Triangle, those where you will have a perfectly fine experience, and you'll enjoy a pleasant meal. However because we have so many delicious options, when you plan your next outing, you want to try somewhere else instead of returning to the aforementioned "good" place with hopes of finding a great one that you want to return to time and time again.
Friends, Biryani Maxx is this place for me. I went tonight, and I was blown away by the multidimensional tastes of such comforting dishes served in a simple, no-frills establishment. I'd personally rather the flavor and spice come from my food than the decor, so this location in a quintessential Cary strip mall is no problem for me. I am already planning what to order on my next visit, as I aim to work my way through the menu and try every dairy-free item...it's time to work on NY Resolutions, and those will be mine.
My friends and I split the spicy chili potatoes, crinkle cut French fries caked in a candy-apple red spice blend. This dish was not what I expected, but the depth of flavor and scattering of onions, lime, and cilantro took this appetizer over the top. We also shared the spicy fried fish, which was similarly fiery and cooked to perfection.
My friend who doesn't enjoy burning her taste buds off in her spare time like I do (we all have to have hobbies) ordered the chicken biryani, the house speciality. The spices, chicken, and rice blended together seamlessly, creating a signature dish with maximum flavor that makes the restaurant worthy of its name. However, it was too mild for my liking, so if I would order it, I'd get it super spicy.
My friend and I shared an order of roti and chicken chettinad, and this chicken chettinad was one of the best dishes I've had in 2018! They made it spicy, and I am so happy...even hours later as I continue to feel the burn...much like I did during the 2016 primary. Between bites of roti soaked in the curry, I noticed my stress escaping and my sinuses clearing.
This restaurant is great, and I can't wait to return.
