I needed to get something to eat, but I admit I am super picky about biscuits. When you have eaten the best biscuits made from scratch by hand by an aunt in Mississippi, you have a strong basis for comparison. A good biscuit IS hard to find.
These are some of the best biscuits I have had in Seattle in the past 20 years.
I opted for the plain buttermilk biscuit and it met all of my expectations and then some. They are moist, light as air and, and I'm not saying this as a bad thing, but they're bland, which made them the perfect foundation for any type of topping, from plait butter, to sweet jams or honey, to the savory gravies that they excel at.
They had good crispy outsides and they offered two savory gravies that were both rich and creamy & not overly seasoned. The mushroom was golden brown with mushrooms and the one with leeks, a light, cheesy, super creamy, I think I might have wanted to see the leeks in the gravy for the sake of color, but the spice of the leeks was definitely there.
Both of them were perfect for the biscuit, and being able to have a split of each gravy was just awesome.
It is enough of a meal in itself, I could not finish the one serving I got. I did have an egg added to it, and it went beautifully.
Will definitely stop in again.
