Zaytoon Review - Nopa - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The portions at this Mediterranean spot are large enough that getting takeout might throw off the balance of a small moped - you could easily split one thing between two people and have a full meal. The shawerma is somehow larger than a burrito, but is lighter from the onion, cucumbers, and tomato salad it’s loaded with. The mezza platter is also solid, and if you feel like veering away from health for a minute, so are the za’atar fries." - Will Kamensky

Excellent food in a small setting. True French food and crepes/galettes were some of the best we have had for a long time.

Google
Fantastic gem. I’m so grateful that my teen found the reviews in Google maps. We ate the pizza (teen said best pizza of his life), beef and lamb shawarma, strawberry crepe, and banana crepe. All phenomenal.

Google
Possibly the most delicious, fancy burger I have ever had. Totally recommended. Lamb cooked to perfection. Delicious tomato confit and caramelized onions at their best. The fries were to die for, and the onion soup, incredible.

La Sarrasine - A Delightful Culinary Experience! La Sarrasine in San Francisco is an absolute gem! I recently visited and was blown away by their delicious offerings. First, let me rave about their banana crepes. These crepes are simply amazing! The bananas were perfectly ripe, and the crepe itself was light, fluffy, and melted in my mouth. Drizzled with just the right amount of Nutella chocolate and topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar, it was a heavenly experience. And the margherita pizza? Perfection! The crust was light and crispy, providing the ideal base for the fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Each bite was a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and inviting, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Whether you're in the mood for a sweet treat or a savory meal, La Sarrasine is the place to be. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Google
This is a local créperie conveniently located on Divisadero, very close to Bi-Rite, The Mill, and other popular spots on the neighborhood. The menu is straight forward and so is the service, it’s a great place to get lunch or share a coffee with a friend. My crepe was delicious; crispy, cheesy, and hot! Definitely will come back for more.

Google
Mediocre food and service. Ordered 4 dishes. They were all bland with low quality ingredients. The burger was greasy, the fries were soggy, pasta was undercooked, the bread was stale, muscles weren't fresh and lacked flavor. The chicken crepe was passable. We kept having to flag down the waiter while the place was mostly empty. Then they had the audacity to ask us to leave after an hour because there was a large reservation.

Google
Had a tasty beef stew. Very creamy and flavorful.

Google
Delicious authentic french buckweat crepes! The mergez are homemade and were also fantastic! Having grown up in France, this was comfort food for me. Service by the owner was great and very convivial! Highly recommend and will be going back often!

Yelp
It was a pleasure to discover this restaurant that recently opened on Divisadero. French onion soup was of solid quality, a very appropriate option for a cool January afternoon/ evening. The Branzino was cooked to perfection: flavorful. The chocolate dessert tasted very good. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Definitely going back!

David D.

Yelp
You must try the beef bourguigno, and moules frites, and the French onion soup. The service was also very good.

Nour I.

Yelp
the only spot in San Francisco using buckwheat flour gluten-free must try sarrasine egg cheese, roasted bell pepper homemade merguez for dessert, sweet banana

Yelp
I previously tried La Sarrasine before it rebranded to Bistro la Chaumiere. Came by in the middle of the week during a quick break to try the strawberry Nutella (or was it Chocolate?) crepe with vanilla ice cream. The crepe was good, not too thick, very sweet with the chocolate or Nutella filling. Ice cream was perfect accompaniment. Tea was great to help with the sweetness. I sat by the window toward the front with some tea. Felt very civilized and content. I should do this again when I have the time I think to myself. Maybe try other things on the menu. Ambiance quiet and service was good. Located on Divisadero and Hayes.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped in for an early evening meal yesterday. The restaurant is closed until 5pm. She brought us here to try some crepes but in the evening no crepes are served. A revamp of the evening menu after re-opening from its former life under a different name. The ambiance is cosy with white bistro chairs, small tables and a banquette against a wall. Upon entering, the head waiter then told us ALL the seats in the restaurant were reserved. The front window bistro seating was the only seats available... (we sat and ate our food with more than half of the restaurant still empty when we left...not good). My companion was eager to try a Normandy cider (alcohol) and she got a glass. She enjoyed it. The food: we chose French soupe à l'oignon and two appetizers to share: the prawns plate and blistered Brussels sprouts. The soupe ($11) was good. The gruyère cheese was melted on top of chunks of country bread and the broth was flavorful and not overly salty like most places. The bowl was a bit small. The prawns appetizer ended up to be 4 prawns on a full-sized plate with a rémoulade sauce ($17). The prawns were tasty yet a little over cooked. When overcooked, prawns become hard, as was the case. The Brussels sprouts dish ($11) was a big bowl of the veggies! Biting a small round, it was creamy inside and a bit smoky with crisp bits. Tasty. The service was prompt with staff refilling water glasses and quickly clearing empty plates. Overall, the restaurant was okay (not great) but expensive. The cost of the glass of cider, two soups and two apps plus tax and a surcharge for using a credit card brought the total to $70. I haven't eaten out along the Divisadero corridor of NoPa for a long time. It's a very popular area, but I think the food at Bistro La Chaumière neither impressed me nor justified the cost. Since I just returned a few weeks ago from Paris where I found dining out more reasonably priced, generous and flavorful, I will not be returning to this bistro.

Yelp
On a cold day in SF, we were craving a nice brunch and were excited to find a place serving French crepes. I generally get pretty excited by Crepes! I've had French crepes before and I thought the food here was pretty decent - 3/5. We ordered two savory crepes - one of the Poulet and one of the Florentine. According to the menu, the Poulet was supposed to come with some Pesto sauce too but there wasn't any. I felt it was also a tad too oily for my liking. It was pretty light on filling otherwise - the chicken was pretty minimal for the price, which I felt was also on the higher side! In addition we also got a French Onion soup to share. I haven't had one before, but it was a bad too cheesy for my liking!

Yelp
The charming atmosphere cannot do anything for an average meal at best. The burger buns crumbling on the plate signal an old bread and the merguez (spicy sausage of lamb and beef) is lacking flavor. While you the galette (buckwheat crepe) is cooked perfectly, the rest of what we tasted remained unremarkable at best. Service was good though.

Yelp

Yelp
This is a new place for only two weeks but was a crepe place for years Now they have dinner and other items on menu Everything was very good The seafood linguine was fantastic The Croque madam was good and came with a salad The strawberry chocolate and vanilla ice cream crepe was tasty Great service

Yelp
We had 2 meals at the Bistro this the past week- lunch and dinner. The hard-to-find buckwheat crepes with a side order of brussel sprouts and a glass of wine made a perfect mid afternoon lunch. For dinner, the branzino was perfectly prepared. The onion soup matched that of a good Parisienne bistro. The service matched the quality of the food. The ambience was lovely- understated, casual and quiet. This restaurant looked like it had been around and enjoyed for years. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Went to two French bistros in a week during our staycation. This was my first time to this bistro and the favorite of the two (the other is a long time popular bistro). I had the boeuf bourguignon and every bite was perfectly balanced with subtly flavored with herbs. My partner had the moules et frite; moules were incredibly tender and in a delicious light cream sauce. Frites were crispy as you'd expect. The other guest had French onion soup & a Caesar salad which we shared. Dressing on the huge salad was sooo delicious! We all can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
The inviting yellow awning had been calling us and off we went on a busy weekday night. We seemed to get everything but crepes for dinner until we got to dessert- and the dessert crepes were worth waiting for. Split the delicious fried calamari ($12) and my son had the beef schwarma main he enjoyed. The mushroom pizza was more than shareable but seriously under-seasoned. I didn't taste (or see) any of the promised thyme and flavors would've popped had they also scattered a few exotic mushrooms. The dessert crepes were so delicious, we were greedy and had two: Nutella and Normande ($10/$13) which was reminiscent of tarte tatin. They offer beer and wine. The Mount Vallon chardonnay ($11) perfectly paired with dinner. I plan on returning for their savory crepes. A very nice, hipsterish addition on Divis, right across the street from The Independent. Recommend!

Yelp
Perhaps the worst service I have ever received. Waiter (owner?) was beyond rude. I ordered a la carte due to diet restrictions: eggs and toast. I received two eggs, one piece of toast and fried potatoes which I didn't order and couldn't eat. I asked for jam and the waiter (owner?) said he didn't have any. I didn't bother asking for butter. I was charged $19.

Yelp
The merguez is solid, the ambiance of the restaurant is like a brunch spot, and the service is great. As a Tunisian I can't rate higher when I consider the price/spices, but a good spot to at least try !

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a saturday at 11am. I made a reservation on opentable but it was not needed since the restaurant was quite empty with plenty of open seats. Sat in the park let since it was a beautiful sunny day! I ordered the florentine galette which was a buckwheat crepe with veggies and a bechamel sauce. It usually comes with an egg on top but I removed it. This was absolutely delicious - it was decadent, with crispy sides, a really delicious rich creamy and cheesy sauce, and beautiful flavors. I asked for some hot sauce and they gave me harissa which was the perfect addition to the dish - I highly recommend adding that. 5/5 would definitely go back and order another galette. My friends got the veggie omelettes and they loved them as well! The latte and cappuccino we ordered were nothing special. Go for the food! Ambiance was casual and cute, and service was kind and friendly.

Yelp
Loved the outdoor seating for me and my dog. I recently moved to the neighborhood and saw that they had moules frites, one of my favorite dishes so I just had to try it. I had a difficult day so I was looking to have a nice dinner to help ease it away. The staff and the owner were so kind, they were super friendly to my dog and then comped me a creme brulee. I'm not sure if it was obvious that I was having a bad day, but their kindness meant so much to me. On top of that, the food was good. This will probably be one of my regular spots for sure.

Yelp
Came here with a large group and we all wanted to try the buckwheat crepes! There were so many great options but ultimately decided to go with the chicken and also got some fries. So filling and it was delicious. Buckwheat is definitely a flavor you either like or don't like. There's a certain earthiness and depth to it and I think it worked well with the chicken and red bell peppers. Service was really fast and our waters were refilled frequently. Would definitely want to try some of the other savory crepes (& the dessert crepes).

Yelp
Wasn't sure what I was craving today, but I did want to try something new. I always pass by this creperie and decided today was the day we were going to give it a try! Walked in for a party of two on a Wednesday for lunch and it was completely empty! The waiter/host was very friendly, refilled our waters, and even asked if we had preference on how we'd like the dishes to come out (soup / fries first or everything out all at once). I appreciate the thoughtfulness! The galettes were great! Not too salty, soup was flavorful and the fries were soft and crispy. Really enjoyed the ambiance here. Would recommend others to give this French cuisine a try!

Yelp
PSA - Was not open on Friday at 7:15 pm. Update from Nov 8 2024. The phone was not answered even though yelp, Google and the website indicated that it was open until 9.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood little restaurant that is open everyday, all day without closing between lunch & dinner. Which is rare in SF but it's good for me because I usually likes to eat between 3-5 PM. I just don't get it actually why so many restaurants in SF are closed between lunch and dinner time instead of staying open. I like this place because it stays open. I've had the Tuna Nicoise salad that I enjoyed. It was generous and quite delicious, the only thing is they are using canned tuna instead of seared tuna on their Nicoise. I've also get the Classic Parisienne Crepe. Savory, salty and hearty, It was a pretty solid lunch! This place is only three months old, everything reasonably priced and friendly service. A great neighborhood little eatery.

Vivian Y.

Yelp
The food (mussels and duck confit for 2 of us, with a Caesar salad) was tasty overall. However the dishes seemed pre-made, then warmed up. The mussels were lukewarm, and I had to ask for it to be warmed up more halfway through. The fries were limp, not crispy. The mashed potatoes that came with the duck was also lukewarm. Not rushing back anytime soon.

Yelp
Overall, I thought this place was fine. I was here for breakfast. They offer a menu mostly focused on crepes (galettes), but also offer other morning-focused items like scrambles and omelets. I had the Poulet, which included chicken, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, pesto and cheese. I found the dish to be decent...it wasn't necessarily amazing. The fries smelled great, so we ordered those, but ultimately, they were pretty bland. I was disappointed with the service - we were seated for 15-20 minutes before someone took our order. After our order was taken, it took a while for the food to arrive. It was also disappointing that after the food arrived, our server never followed up to make sure we were enjoying our experience. This might be worth trying if you're a real fan of crepes...I'm not a huge fan of crepes in general and my experience here didn't change my mind.

Yelp
Our family stopped by La Sarrasine for a crêpe. We were craving an authentic crêpe like the ones we miss in France. La Sarrasine didn't disappoint. I ordered the La Parisienne, which was made with a buckwheat crêpe, Asiago cheese, ham, and egg. It was delicious. My husband ordered the La Sarrasine crêpe, which was a buckwheat crêpe, with Asiago cheese, merguez, and he asked for the egg to be scrambled. Our three year old had the Margarita pizza. Everything was lovely including the coffee and service. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Looks like a run of the mill cafe, but the food was not run of the mill at all! We had a variety of meals across our table, each of which was excellent. Outdoor seating and nothing special decor wise inside Omelette with veggies and cheese Mergues sausage and shakshuka Crepe with egg Cheeseburger (premium rib eye beef - amazing !) House salad We gobbled it all up!! Flavors were fresh and awesome Well prepared and the owner served us Recommend highly

Yelp
Went here on the weekend during lunch, no wait time and sat at the window which was great for people watching! Ordered the margarita pizza, French onion soup and a veggie omelet with the added lamb sausage Pizza: 3/5, pretty bland and kind of wet(?). Could have used a few more minutes in the oven. French onion soup: 4/5, good flavor just wish it was larger Omelette: 3.5/5, average brunch omelette Unfortunately did not try their crepes, so maybe they're really good but otherwise average brunch place!

Maria X.

Yelp
This place is so good. We got an order of bread (with amazing butter), the french onion soup and the braised lamb shank. Everything was absolutely delicious; the prices are totally reasonable, the service was so nice and attentive. The place is super cute; a cozy French bistro with lovely music and lighting. Can't wait to come back and try more things!

sylvain n.

Yelp
It was a Great experience. I recommend the bouillabaisse and Caesar salad. The wine is affordable and very good.

Kerri P.

Yelp
I love this place We sat down and chatted with the owner. He is delightful and so is his food. I would highly recommend this place for a great date night or a Sunday brunch. I can't wait to come back and try the savory crepes. Everything was perfect and the customer service was just lovely. Let's support small business!!

Yelp
tldr; underrated -- come here and order their galettes!!! recs: florentine galette (still thinking about this...) La Sarrasine seems to be open from lunch through late dinner, so it's the perfect spot to stop by on Divis if you're hungry between meals. The galettes are light but so delicious. Olives are also juicy and delicious if you're into those. Service was superb. Our waters were refilled multiple times, and food came out in a timely manner.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally! A crêpe or galette made with buckwheat, yummy and authentic. The restaurant is super cute, and it really could be a little neighbor place in France. They nailed the decor. I ordered the pariseinne, and it was delicious. My only wish is that they had a forestière so I could relive my year abroad. I wonder if they allow substitutions? I'll find out when I go back.
google avatar

Brett G.

Yelp
Great crepes in a cozy cafe space. Seating inside is decidedly cramped with tables packed in next to each other with no elbow room. However, the crepe was delicious - perfectly cooked, flavorful, and generous portioning. The ham was a little lackluster but cheese egg and crepe itself were top tier. Waitstaff were quick to take my order, deal with payment, and filled my water in a timely fashion.

Yelp
WOW! SO much YES. --Perfectly balanced FLAVOR --PREMIUM ingredients! Top quality cheese and meat, buckwheat flour, fresh veg and herbs --Incredibly FAST service Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient Atmosphere is perfect French Café vibe and open kitchen and every corner are sparkling clean This is the best and most authentic crepe in SF folks Bigger and fatter is not better in the world of fine crepes-- Ditch your false ideas of ihop crepes and try a real one!

Yelp
I wanted to like this more. We came here for Valentine's day and so I trying to be cognizant for how busy places are. The ambiance was excellent. Great smart casual vibe. Cozy restaurant with the tables very close but still felt like the wife an I were eating on our own. Service was very friendly and personable. Food was good+. We started with the onion soup which had great flavor but surprisingly, despite the ooey gooey cheese, the broth itself was only luke warm. We also had the brussels sprouts which were the start of the night. I like me some brussels sprouts and these were some of the best prepared I have ever had. Our mains were the lamb shank which was solid if a bit regular and the moule frittes which is where I was disappointed. The fries were outstnading, and the mussels were well cooked, but the broth was mediocre at best. Not nearly enough flavor. If it was nearby probably would visit again, but not for the trek from home. Parking was horrendous.

Yelp
Very authentic, delicious Sarrazin flour savory crêpes and traditional sweet crêpes. There are also burgers, very delicious fries and shashuka with homemade merguez sausage and other tasty plates to tempt every taste. Very nice decor and the outdoor seating is fabulous on a sunny SF day! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Paris in SFO! Delicious galettes/savory crepes and sweet/dessert crepes! So glad we discovered this place... the crepes are not thick at all...
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
After waiting ten years I final have a replacement for Ti Couz (if you are also STILL not over the closing of the epic 16th and Valencia creperie for bretonnes galettes... i feel you). They still need to add the crepe suzette to the dessert menu...which may not get approval from today's fire marshals as it was made tableside... but they do have a guy working in the kitchen who used to be at Ti Couz... so I have faith... Owner and staff are top notch. If we had to pick our top-three crepes.... maybe campagnarde (bacon onion swiss), parisienne (ham and swiss), and scandinave (salmon capers dill).
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
A friend and I were seeing a show at The Independent and looking for a place to have dinner. We settled on crepes at La Sarrasine and loved them. We ordered the Sarrasine and Florentine and split them so we could have a taste of both. They were delicious, crispy (but not too crispy) ,and airy with flavorful fillings. Service was friendly, inviting, and prompt - we didn't wait long at all for our order. I enjoyed a glass of French cider. If we didn't have the show to go to, we would have probably stayed for dessert. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Brenda R.

Yelp
Ordered the Parisienne and the Scandinavian Breton galettes for lunch. The dough was all gluten free. The owner was friendly. Got myself a cider too and it was a perfect lunch. Glad to have this place nearby.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I'm surprised this place isn't filled to the brim. The crepes are delicious and reasonably priced. I had the crepe with salmon and it was delicious! My friend got a strawberry crepe with icecream and chocolate sauce and that was my favorite! They have a wide selection of sweet and savory crepes and the service was amazing! Very tentative and the crepes came fast. The ambiance was nice and the tables and chairs were nicely selected. I would come agajn

Grace O.

Yelp
We came for lunch and ordered sweet and savory crepes and breakfast plates. The savory food was mediocre to bad. The sweet crepes, sugar and lemon, were pretty good. Overall, it was disappointing and not worth the price. The service was very slow, so maybe this was an off day for them.

Tw S.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place but very disappointing. The owner and staff are friendly and professional, but the food just isn't good. The Caesar salad was nicely prepared, but the moules frites was ordinary and the frites were flaccid. The lamb shank itself was ok, but it was served in a bed of watery polenta, the side spinach was so salty it was inedible, and the two heirloom carrot halves were grilled on the outside but arely cooked on the inside and impossible to cut with a dinner knife. The biggest disappointment was the chocolate mousse, which was gritty and more like a pot de creme in its density. All in all a real disappointment for those of us who lament the recent demise of so many traditional French bistros in SF.

Adam H.

Yelp
The was incredibly good. The fries were super crunchy and hot. The burger was really good and the meat patty was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the spot
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
I quite liked the merguez crepe. The sausage itself was excellent. Flavorful, great texture, not dry at all. The crepe itself was good too, though sadly I am not yet an experience crepe enjoyer so I don't have a ton to compare it to. But I thought the flavor of the buckwheat was earthy and pleasing.
google avatar

Sayoko K.

Yelp
We had a coffee, buckwheat galettes, and both tasted so good!! It was so good we forgot to take pictures We sat outside at a small round table, which was nice and cozy. The owner came say hi, and we had a lovely chat about his training years in Paris, and the buckwheat coming from France! truly authentic and friendly services. We cleaned the plate and I wanted to order the onion soup but the galettes were very good size I couldn't! So I have to go back for that next time.
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
Fantastic crepes and pizza. The pizza is better than many other gourmet Italian pizza in SF. The cider is perfect, hard and slightly sweet. Mussels and fries are awesome. Service is impeccable. I love it.
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
I ordered the "parisienne" ham, egg, cheese crepe, as well as the banana crepe with nutella. The crepes are pretty good. One was not gonna be filling enough. The crepes are not inexpensive. For two I paid around $36. I got a coke as well. They have cafe drinks on menu. It's a new creperie on Divisadero. I would come back. I love crepes.
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Nice to have a new breakfast/brunch option in the neighborhood, but not something I'd go out of your way for. I got the Parisienne crepe, which had good buckwheat flavor but felt a bit thick and soft - it wasn't quite crispy enough (the version at Le Marais is better). My friend got a ham and cheese omelette which she thought was okay, but wasn't particularly impressed by. Given how busy a lot of spots are on this street during brunch, it's a welcome addition as a rare place you can get seated immediately without a wait.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
I've come here twice for a strawberry nutella crepe which is super yummy! I want to come try their savory crepes too sometime. Quaint spot and great for catching up with friends
google avatar

Jimmy N.

Yelp
Fantastic authentic French-style crepes -- savory buckwheat (blé de sarrasin) galettes and sweet crepes -- AND amazing French cider. This place is a real gem on Divisadero. The owner is really friendly, and the food is top-notch. We've been missing a good crepe-focused restaurant since the closures of the likes of ti couz & galette 88. My go-tos are the Provençal galette, the Niçoise salad, and the crispy fries.
