22 Restaurants Highlighting Jersey City’s Rich Culinary Diversity

"Fourteen-year-old Bistro La Source is tucked away in a residential neighborhood near the Colgate clock. Its strength lies not only in its comfortable interior and parking-lot outdoor dining area, but in its conventional bistro menu. The scaled-down bouillabaisse and hopelessly rich cassoulet are good examples, but one is also free to dine more lightly on bone marrow and chanterelles or French onion soup." - Robert Sietsema

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week, February 2022 - Eater NY

"Bistro La Source offers a Mediterranean seafood stew that uses local cod, mussels, clams, squid, and scallops for its oceanic flavor. The dish is topped with croutons and is quite enough for two." - Eater Staff

Google
A solid French bistro with all the classics you’d expect—nothing groundbreaking, but honestly, very good Parisian comfort food. We started with the duck liver foie gras and toast, which was rich and flavorful. I had the steak frites, and it was spot-on—tender, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. The ambiance was warm and relaxed—not overly fancy, just a great place for good food and good conversation. I went with a few friends, and the atmosphere made it easy to unwind and enjoy. If you're looking for a casual French bistro in Jersey City, this one definitely hits the mark. I’d recommend it.

Google
Great atmosphere, the food was solid but I wasn't blown away. I felt the duck entree could use a bit more work when it comes to the sides and was perhaps over rested for me. The coq au vin blank was excellent. Many great options on the menu I would like to come back and try.

Google
Cute place for brunch. Small interior but large patio. Mussels were delicious. Seafood salad is okay, refreshing but a little bland. Loved the dessert though. There’s street parking.

Like your typical Parisian/French restaurant, they focus more on the food than its ambience and service. Despite the slow service, and "kinda rude" waiters, the food we had was fantastic! They ran out of Escargot on Valentines night lol but we very much enjoyed our food as well as the wine we picked. I also recommend their crème brûlée! Parking is FREE after 5pm behind JC City Hall, which is a block away.

Google
Service was excellent, food was so special! The grilled octopus was SO good, definitely a must. Their onion soup is awesome tops We had the seafood stew which was perfection. I wish they have more bread options like whole wheat rich bread, but that’s only me :)

Google
The food was okay, waiter took awhile even tho the place wasn’t busy. He end up having apologize several times. I tried to coming back to dine few days later while it was busy, but I was ignored for 5 mins at the entrance. Just end up leaving & haven’t been back since. Food is pricer but vibe is cool.

This is a little gem for locals! We went there one of Friday nights, but earlier time. The restaurant looked half full, but later on after 7/7:30ish, the line for waiting table got long! The service, drinks, and food are great! My BF and I shared charcuterie plate as for appetizer, I had mussels, my BF had fish for main. They were all tasty, in a big portion. I like their menu in general, because they're not too heavy like everything cooked with heavy cream and fried. We'll definitely come back again!!

Google
Went here with my girlfriends after Christmas and it was very quiet but the service was great and the food was good. We had some drinks to start, got a charcuterie board, our main meals and shared a bottle of Cote Du Rhone. It was very cozy on a cold winter night.

Yelp
I love a good French bistro. A French bistro is one of my favorite comfort foods. Bistro La Source did not dissapoint. This charming restaurant in Jersey City is only a short walk from my daughter's apartment. The light rail stops very close to it also. The inside is very nice and very French and welcoming. We chose to sit outside on this pleasant summer evening. There is abundant outdoor seating. We ordered the Thai muscles, the Bronzino, the soft shell crab special, and my go to, steak frites. Everything was outstanding. I could drink the sauce for the Thai muscles. My steak frites was tender and delicious. Service was great all night and very attentive. We had some crazy good desserts also I would definitely come back here and try some of the other staples such as duck Confit and the hamburger.

Yelp
Decided to visit Bistro La Source at their new location on Marin where Latham House was. Disappointed is an understatement. :( won't be back. Bread service - nothing special. Bread was falling apart like it was old, the softened butter was a highlight though Calamari - served with spicy mayo??? Weird but ok. Would have preferred marinara. Onion soup - this was ok, I wish the onions weren't cut so thin and wish there were more. Overall this was one of the better things we got. Sirloin au poivre - ... eeeek. This was really, really bad. The mashed potatoes had to be instant, the sauce was flavorless, steak was overcooked. Ate a couple bites and didn't take my leftovers. Server asked me numerous times if I wanted a box even though I said no Steak frites - significantly better than the sirloin, the sauce was flavorful and you can't really mess up French fries.

Yelp
Big yikes! Came here for dinner on Labor Day. The service was straight up bad took almost 25 minutes to get a drink order in and bread for the table. No apologies, no thanks for your patience, nothing. When the waiterss finally came to take out order, an hour into us being there, she greets us with just "Hi" ?????? Food was okay and the outdoor seating was nice but the service was so bad that I'll never be back. Hispanic lady who seemed to be a food runner was the only one with any hustle.

Yelp
My good friend Terry and I tried Bistro La Source at 299 Marin Blvd. for the first time for lunch today. We loved the ambiance and the food was absolutely amazing. We shared their perfectly fried calamari. It was breaded and tasty to perfection. Lemon on the side. We each had the Croque Monsieur. Also perfectly prepared. The drinks from the bar were great too. Special commendation goes to server Marcus McGinnity and chef Milton Bonilla. Terry and I will definitely be back to Bistro La Source.

Yelp
We had a lovely evening here. I love their new location - it's very modern and spacious inside - and the servers are wonderful. I got the pumpkin ravioli - which was really nice to see on the menu outside of autumn - and a lemon drop martini. My fiancé also got an amaretto sour that was delicious.

Yelp
French cuisine in the heart of jersey city. They start you off with fresh warm bread which was delicious. Ordered a bunch of dishes but the favorites were the grilled octopus and duck salad. The pasta ragu was a bit too salty.. Very busy on a weekend night! It seems like they packed as many tables and chairs as possible inside this place because we were sitting pretty close to other people. If you like your space this may not be the place for you. It gets kinda loud with everyone inside so not the best place if you're trying to have a conversation.

Yelp
Adorable restaurant. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation and the owner happily accommodated us. The service was extremely slow and the waitresses were dressed like they work in a dive bar. We did not get any bread, all of the tables around us did. Food was very good. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night, but the staff didn't give off the same energy.

Yelp
Great experience! We went to order the mussels for mussel Monday & the server said we both had to order that, but we didn't want 4 bowls of mussels because we also wanted to order an appetizer & entree. The owner heard our conversation and let us continue with one order of the mussels for the Monday deal (2 bowls, side of fries & dessert for $35). Both mussels were delish and they brought complimentary bread for dipping in the sauce. Will go back for this deal! The Spanish octopus was served with lentils & chorizo and was very good. The short rib was great & came with mashed potatoes. We went around 8 and were able to walk in without a reservation. There were a few tables, but the bar was full. We took our dessert to go and it was great chocolate mousse!

Yelp
What a fantastic dinner we had Bistro La Source. All of the food was delicious. We had a wide array of different dishes and each one delivered. The menu is quite extensive with a lot of classic French dishes as well as some of the usual suspects. The service was great. I don't remember our waiters name but he was tall, blond and had a wonderful demeanor. In addition, the supporting waitstaff were also very quick in removing finished dishes and delivering the next ones in a flash. It's a little tight in there and could use a bit more A/C power in this summer heat. In addition, it was raining making it a bit more humid and a bit stuffy. But never mind, that only adds to the feeling as if you're actually in a French Bistro in France. Which I have been on many occasions, so this just added to the authenticity. There is also a large outdoor seating area that we would've sat in had it not been for the rain. Cute lights brighten the area creating a super sexy but friendly welcoming vibe. I saw friends, couples and larger groups like mine thoroughly enjoying themselves. They also have a cute bar in the front and overall the place has a very warm rustic feel to it. It's also not fussy in terms of attire. I noticed a dog's water bowl outside leading me to believe it may also be pet friendly for the outdoor portion. I'm guessing, but check first if you're planning to bring your pet. Parking was challenging, but in the end I found a spot about a block and a half away. I was happy after I ate all that food, I'd have to walk to my car in the hopes of shedding a few calories. We'll definitely be going back!

Yelp
The new space is pretty grim. Not sure why it would leave the charming spot it had to move into a soulless office building. I get wanting more space and the central location, but they've sacrificed every inch of charm and warmth to get it. You literally walk in under a blasting vent churning out dank air from the nearby Krispy Kreme and are greeted by a cavernous space and uninviting neon lights blaring at the bar from the nearby kitchen. I just don't get it. Really seems like they got some bad advice. I'll give it three stars since it's literally one of the only places for a decent French Onion soup in Downtown JC.

Yelp
Eh, it was alright. Worth going to check it out but don't think I'd be rushing to go back. Espresso martinis were good, short rib ravioli was okay - didn't think it was homemade or at least didn't taste that way. I ordered the Panko crusted chicken and thought it was bland - personally the Italian in me makes better chicken cutlets ;) . I assumed it was going to have more gravy but without it the meal was a bit dry. We also got the sirloin which was pretty good.

Yelp
I went here with a friend for a casual Wednesday lunch and it was not busy. Generally on the other side of the river (Jersey City), most restaurants you can just walk in even prime time but I still made a reservation to be safe as I needed to head to the airport after the meal. We shared the Escargots Au Pastis and Onion Soup Gratinée to start. Escargots are very good - lots of lemon and butter so definitely very rich and heavy. It was prepared well as there is not a strong earthy taste that I got from my first escargots experience elsewhere. The onion soup is also good - lots and lots of cheese, with soup that is salted the right amount. We then got the ravioli and salade Lyonnaise with crispy duck confit. The ravioli is a miss - the tomato sauce they used is quite plain and only served to make the dish saucy. The beef short ribs inside were a bit dry and not too flavorful. However, the duck confit is so tender and juicy - almost fall off the bone. The salad that they served on the side was okay, and the egg was cooked adequately, though not perfectly runny. Service is overall excellent as the server checks up on you and fulfills requests in a timely manner. Fortunately I read the reviews in advance and most of the negative reviews had to do with automatic 20% gratuity not being clear and the customer double tipped. Thus, it didn't come across as a surprise - regardless, this time around, they did draw an obvious circle to show that gratuity is already included in the bill.

Yelp
Fingar food gives this 10/10! I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu, grilled chicken wings, ragu and the beef bourginon all sounded heavenly. Plus, our waiter kept the cocktails coming and was very attentive. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I always pass by this restaurant, there's a huge outdoor seating area but the restaurant itself is tiny (not great for winter). We sat outside and they turned on the heating lamps. There are two main menu sections, one for seafood and one for everything else. They served us warm complimentary bread and butter which is always a nice touch. To start, I ordered the French onion soup. It was okay, I didn't like the smell or flavor of the cheese so if you're a cheese fan (especially the stinky kind) I think you would enjoy this soup. For my main dish I ordered the ravioli stuffed with beef short rib. Again it had that same stinky cheese as the soup which I didn't like. But the actual pasta tasted homemade and it was cooked really well. For dessert I tried the apple bread pudding, this was a win, it was served warm. It had a delicious caramel taste, perfect for fall. I think I would come back here to try the seafood as the waiter recommended some dishes from there!

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite this evening ... looks like they're closed for good?? Did i miss this or was this as sudden as it seems?

Yelp
Went here for Hudson Restaurant Week to celebrate my mother's birthday and it was great! We got all the appetizers (4 of us, so it worked out). The avocado salad was very underwhelming and feels like, on the regular menu, it's overpriced. We loved the escargot and mussels provencale, and my favorite was the goat curry croquette! Next for entrees we got the cassoulet which was great, short rib bourguignon, and Mediterranean seafood stew. The short rib bourguignon was fantastic and pull apart tender. Loved the veggies in the dish - really made it pop! We also got all 4 desserts offered - lemon tart, flourless chocolate cake, apple bread pudding, and creme brulee. Omg the apple bread pudding was literally SO GOOD. My boyfriend used the word "spectacular" to describe it! I personally also liked the flourless chocolate cake a lot. It was a fun restaurant week experience - we sat outdoors in those bubbles which had its own gas heater, so we weren't cold. Great service too, very attentive. Would come back again!

Yelp
This cute bistro by my new apartment has this sign that draws me in every time I walk by "sangria" and let me tell y'all the sangria was what I neeeeded! The burger was great too. But what really makes this restaurant amazing is the awesome and friendly staff! I felt like family here Great for outdoor seating! Love the ambiance

Yelp
We sat outdoor in the converted parking lot to outdoor seating arrangement. They serve bread and butter for free as a started. We ordered the Salad Layoinnase which were delicious with a strong cheese and perfectly cooked duck.

Yelp
My husband and I love this place. It is our go to French restaurant in Jersey City. The last two months we have dined here 4 times including New Year's. Same waiter. However yesterday, we went at 6pm. Saw the sign outside cocktails were $7 until 7pm. So we were seated at a table and I ordered the aperol spritz but was told by the waiter, it is only at the bar. That was not on the sign. And you would think it should be for the entire restaurant. It sucks! Given that we ordered so much food. The waiter didn't even reconsider. We will not be going back. Charging fulll price $15 per cocktail. The restaurant wasn't full. Highly disappointed. Never again.

Yelp
LOVE Bistro la Source. As an American Asian, to say this is my comfort food is a understatement. I love coming here and eating delicious food no matter what I order. The atmosphere is relaxed and they have a great outdoor seating when the weather is JUST PERFECT. ..I forgot to take a picture of my sandwich BUT just know, any sandwich will be delicious.

Yelp
This was our third time at Bistro la Source. We are not French food afficionados and this isn't the best French food we've ever had, but we've always found it to be consistently decent and satisfies our French craving. Bone marrow (3.5/5): We love bone marrow, but here we found it to be a bit underseasoned. We also didn't love the toast that came with it--it tasted a little stale. We did love the mushrooms that came on top of it, though. Oysters (3/5): These were fine--nothing special, but tasted fresh. Foie gras (4/5): I didn't try this dish, but my boyfriend enjoyed it and ate the whole plate by himself. Branzino (3/5): The flavor of the fish was good and we liked the sauce, but the risotto was undercooked (risotto rice should definitely have a bite, but this was crunchy in the middle). Steak (3.5/5): The mashed potatoes were good and I enjoyed the veggies, but the steak tasted dry and underseasoned.

Yelp
The bald old guy at the door is rude and obnoxious. As far as the food, It depends on what you order

Yelp
I have never seen a restaurant take COVID-19 so seriously. They aren't playing games here. When you're seated you get a table PLUS, a separate "social distancing table" so that they don't directly serve you. They put the water there and you have to help yourself, any drinks/plates ordered are also put there, then you bring it to your actual dining table. Annoying...slightly, but ultimately VERY smart and well-organized. Anyway, the food is very good and the menu is pretty diverse. The burrata was good, but the star appetizer was the octopus. Delicious. I had the ahi tuna nicoise salad and the chunk of fish was a nice portion and the dish itself was very refreshing. I also sampled the coq au vin and that was good too, and also a pretty large portion. The aperol spritz was a nice addition. In terms of the service...it was good and the wait staff was very friendly given these very strange times we're in. I can't comment on the ambience since their outdoor seating is in a parking lot but hey, it's 2020.

Yelp
Made reservations for dinner and went with high hopes. Staff warned us that half of the heat lamps on the terrace were broken but didn't warn that hapless fellow employees would spend half the evening repeatedly trying to fix them. We were okay at that point but things rapidly deteriorated. The slovenly and utterly disinterested server barely made time to catch our orders, the bread was tasteless, and the food took forever. Fois gras was horribly inedible, the beef bourguignon was literally disgusting with a terrible odor and uncooked vegetables, basically the food was a total disaster. We finally realized that the only reason other diners were having a good time is they ordered charcuterie and wine, two things even this place could not screw up. The female staff seemed apologetic while the men, dressed like dumpster divers and rude to all, flitted about as they saw fit and ignored guests. Upon payment I was reminded rudely that a 20% tip is included as mandatory and that's just the way it is, I asked to see the manager and was told the poor, exhausted woman behind the bar supposedly was. Never spoke with her, she appeared on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Clearly the owners have elected to mail it in and spend not a penny more, and for a place with $38 and $42 a la carte entrees that's a crime. One only hopes they will close soon so the free market can replace this horrible money pit with something productive.

Yelp
One of the top five restaurants in Jersey City. BLS is the type of excellent, neighborhood restaurant you can find everywhere in New York, but that Jersey City really lacks. The food is superb, the menu is always evolving, and the outdoor seating is very nice. Is it Michelin star or would NY Magazine rate it a 90%? No, but nothing else in Paulus Hook comes close. And the JC restaurant scene overall is pretty limited, so BLS fills a critical role. I've eaten here 1-6 times a month for 2+ years. My experience covers the whole breadth of the place, so hopefully my review carries weight with the readers. The reviewers throwing bombs with the one- and two-star reviews shock me. I don't love everyone who works there, but, I've always found the staff responsive and kind to my young son. I can't believe people gripe about the automatic gratuity or wait time. People deserve to be paid a living wage and good restaurants sometimes have a wait.

Yelp
A really nice French place in a convenient location near the downtown are of Jersey City. Quite authentic, and I genuinely enjoyed my entree (fried artichokes) main dish (beef short ribs in a boeuf bourguignon style), and desert (a flourless chocolate torte). The wine list was outstanding, and I also found the cognac to be excellent. This said, the boeuf bourguignon styled short rib was a touch too sweet (maybe a poor choice of brandy for the flambée stage, or a sugar-cured bacon?). So, four stars but not quite five. Fantastic service.

Yelp
I had high hopes upon my first time coming here. It was a beautiful, sunny day and we were actually looking forward to sitting outside! There were bubbles and also actual tables and benches. We were sat at a far table alongside a brick wall, which shaded us from the glaring sun, but we did get the full smell of everything being made in the kitchen, as their huge industry-grade fan was blowing above us the entire time. Sitting in their parking lot was not exactly the most romantic or elegant of settings, but for the few rounds of drinks we hoped to have, it was good enough. There were a couple other tables outside with people and there was one table with folks inside. Unfortunately, despite the drinks being fairly good (I was getting aperol spritzes which were light on the aperol), the service was painfully slooooowwww. They had two servers, one host (is he the owner?) and a hostess who was very overdressed for seating people in a parking lot, and they just could not keep up. There were times we didn't see a server for a good half hour, leaving us very thirsty. We ordered a charcuterie board along with our drinks and the cheeses either seemed old and hard (yuck) or extremely oily (also yuck). I guess that stuff doesn't move as much here, but if I'm paying that sort of money for something you're offering on your menu, I'd appreciate fresh cheese, if you please. We had anticipated staying here much longer, but we were sitting with empty glasses far too long in between each round, so we decided to head out and go drink elsewhere.

Felix L.

Yelp
The service is excruciatingly slow but friendly. The ambiance is average. The food is an enormous disappointment. The fish is fresh, which is good, of course. But it is also barely seasoned. The tuna tartare is tasteless. The french fries--in a French bistro!--are awful. Not merely mediocre or disappointing: awful. The mussels are relatively plump but tasteless. The red wine by the glass is so warm it's undrinkable. The tap water on the table is also warm. The veggies that accompany certain dishes, e.g., the cucumber that comes with the tartare, are entirely unseasoned and tasteless. The bordelaise on the steak frites is pasty and unappetizing. There is poor technique and execution throughout. On the positive side, the wines are reasonably priced. This place isn't hopeless, but it needs lots of work. As of now, Bistro la source gives French food a bad name. I wish them well. They aren't new to the scene.

Yelp
Ate outside on a beautiful day. The servers were lovely- extremely helpful and accommodating. However, the outside area is tired, and sadly part of it faces the huge kitchen fan that emits onion odors from the kitchen. Part of the area (really a parking lot) has the leftover winter bubble pods haphazardly tossed. The door to the garbage can storage area was left open, so not a great view or smell there too for sure. Some of cushions on the outdoor seats are faded, not bothered to be attached on, so were on the ground. The "patio" area itself are pavers just placed on the ground. It seems that for a bit of effort and very few dollars the whole area could be made nicer. Even just trying to clean up the one area where random stuff is tossed would be a vast improvement. The caliber of the food we had was just ok. Fried calamari was good while the burrata salad had a somewhat unusual taste. Not great for sure. French toast was good, (hard to wreck that!) while the chicken sandwich was decent too. Won't be going back unless it's simply for a late night beer.

Yelp
We had a really nice time here tonight. The food is delicious! I'd heard about the all-you-can-eat mussels and figured that it would be nice to have a date with my husband. He ordered a Chimay & I had a nice white wine suggested by our server. Then it was on to the mussels! I ordered Mariniere (white wine & garlic) and Thai (a coconut milk base), and my husband chose Provencale (tomato & wine) and Normandy (mushrooms, bacon & cream). They were all delicious! I liked the Thai and Normandy best. Our server brought some delicious bread which we used to soak up all the great sauces. We also ordered the octopus & merguez sausage appetizer, which was quite nice. It was such a lovely night. We sat outside and enjoyed the summer evening. People of all ages were there and everyone was having an enjoyable time. My husband ordered the almond cake & pistachio gelato for dessert. He was impressed! They added a 20% gratuity to the bill because it was mussel night. It was clearly stated on the special mussel night menu and our server told us ahead of time, so it was totally cool. The service was indeed excellent. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Booked a reservation at 8pm, got there on time but waited 40 MINUTES until we were seated. 30 minutes in, I flagged down a waitress and asked about our table, but she was super rude and dismissive. Finally, they told us they were disinfecting the bubble (we got outdoor seating). Seriously though, 40 minutes to disinfect?! Sounded more than a little fishy to me. Food-wise, we got the blue cheese burger and Branzino filet, which were both average and certainly did not make up for the terrible service. To top it off, since the gratuity is added, we ended up paying a 20% tip that we definitely did not think was deserved. Will absolutely not be coming back here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Food wasn't good, pumpkin ravioli was bland and Mac n cheese was also flavorless. It's hard to mess up mac n cheese :-/ they were busy but service was slow and added on 20% gratuity overall an expensive meal for what it was. Nice to sit outside though

Yelp
We came for a weekday dinner and sat outside on the patio - there's plenty of space and they purposefully space out groups. The service was friendly and attentive. There is a very extensive wine list with more options if you're getting a bottle to split vs by the glass. Tried the Lyonnaise salad with duck confit and the duck pulled apart from the bone beautifully! Overall it's a nice neighborhood eatery for casual dinner and drinks.

Yelp
I never like it when a restaurant owner or manager talks rudely to their staff in front of customers and that's what happened here. The meal started pleasantly enough: a sunny fall day, leaves crunching underneath our steps, and one of those plastic bubble things (freshly cleaned, we confirmed) to sit in and stay warm while brunching outside. Service was busy, but just fine. Our drinks arrived quickly and the food fairly soon after. The food was just fine, but prices for portion size are quite off: the steak and eggs was $20 for a small portion of steak, eggs, and potatoes that left my s.o. still hungry. My eggs any style with potatoes and sausage or bacon was similarly small. No bread items, toast, etc. accompanied either dish. And here's where the problem began: I was charged $22.50 for a basic $14 entree. I paid the bill, but then on the way out checked the menu because something didn't feel right. I caught the manager (owner?) and he went inside to check and correct. The waitress had mistakenly charged for a side of sausage, no big deal and easily correctable. I was relaxed about it and then watched the manager (owner?) berate the waitress, who understood what happened, saying to her "I'm looking at you and you don't know what the fuck I'm saying to you," treating her like an idiot. He then gave me $10 in cash rather than adjusting the credit card payment. Whatever. We will be far less likely to visit again after watching how this man treated his staff person.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Jersey City. Staffs were so kind and nice. We had a group of 8 adults and one baby. The baby chair was there upon our arrival and they were ok bringing the food in sequence since one of our friends arrived late due to traffic on the weekends. The food was super super good. I got foie gras and duck and felt very authentic. In my opinion, they were better than some of the fanciest French restaurants in NYC. Lastly, the music and vibes were super French and cute. We will definitely come back again.

Yelp
They've excellent snowglobe outdoor dining option as well as cozy indoor dining option. Delicious, fresh food and a good variety of choices. Service was great as well. I never felt left out as we were dining out. It was very easy to book an outdoor dining table. They were kind enough to set up the heater and set up a high chair for my toddler before we arrived. I'll definitely recommend this place for great food, service, and ambiance.

Yelp
It's absolutely criminal that this place has only 3 stars. I brought my wife here for her birthday, and we absolutely adored it. The savage blonde oysters were delicious and fresh - my wife is a huge oyster fan, and very picky with them, and she ate three servings! She didn't even order and entree. The roasted bone marrow was rich and buttery. I went with the wild boar ragu with papparadelle, which was rich and delicious. I never thought I'd be a wild boar fan, but here we are. We liked it so much that we came back for Sunday brunch. We ordered the mussels mariniere which was wonderfully flavorful - the garlic, shallots, and white wine in that dish were fantastic. We both got the pork belly sandwiches which were just a little sweet and very tasty. The fries were perfect and crispy. My wife told me that the drinks were perfectly balanced (bloody mary, Italian twist). We will absolutely be back again.

Yelp
1 star for the creme brulee! The service was shit. I'm sorry but it was. Specifically our server. The other servers looked helpful with their customers but our server?! wth man? No idea what his name was. Food was eh not bad but not good either. We had.. Steak frites (ordered medium and we got a medium well steak almost well done already. Told the server about it after waiting for him for sooooo long. He said he saw pink and for him it was medium Really, dude? He was really a shitty server. Complained about the fries too so he gave us new fries after we were done eating! He even said on the house. Thanks? Salmon (it was ok. Nothing special.) Fish and chips (was so so) Roasted duck breast with duck confit. (it was eh. duck confit was ok but the roasted duck breast? do not order) For dessert Warm apple pudding was bad. It was so dry! wth? (it wasn't even warm) Creme brûlée. (the only good one from what we ordered.) I expected too much, I guess? To top it off, the 20% gratuity is included! (ouch!) Was it why our server was shitty? because the tip was included? No effort needed, right? We went there for a birthday celebration and we weren't happy at all. Oh and everything were overpriced. Seriously.

Yelp
Great little french place with really good food and friendly staff. They have outdoor seating in little heated igloos that look really cute but it was too cold when we went so we sat indoors. The food was delicious and well presented. We loved the mussels so much that we ended up ordering another one. The cocktails were strong and tasty and they also have a decent collection of wine. Only thing missing is a section on their menu showing the sides you can order. I had to look at the sides that came with different dishes to find the ones I wanted to order. I did point it out to our server so hopefully they update their menu.

Yelp
Last Saturday night, I went to Bistro La Source for a group dinner. There were eight of us that night. We initially all met at a location near the Newport PATH station, then some of us Ubered to Bistro and some walked over (it's about a 15-20 minute walk). This was my first time here and I'd never passed by the eatery, so I didn't know where exactly it was downtown. I was pleasantly surprised after a 20 minute walk in rain drizzle to see the hanging lights decorating the front of the restaurant. It's a very cozy restaurant with a bar to your right once you walk through the entrance. A warmly lit space with light tablecloths and dark wood accents, it gives off a very Parisian bistro, convivial feel. I mean, I was looking for a fireplace and wooden casks of wine. No fireplace or wooden casks, but a varied wine selection (as well as other alcoholic beverages). As this was potentially the only time I would go here (French cuisine is a hard sell to a vegetarian husband), I kind of went all out ordering. I went with the scallop appetizer (chef special item that day), coq au vin as my entree, and creme brulee. Each course had beautiful presentation. The scallops looked amazing. Unfortunately, I was a bit let down by the app - something was off and tasted briny, but I kept it to myself and didn't want to complain in front of my dinner partners. However, the entree and dessert made up for it. The coq au vin was one of the best that I've had; and the crème brûlée did not disappoint! Would I come here again? Yes. Definitely. Especially on a special occasion or with friends from out-of-town who can chow down à la française with me :)

Yelp
Went for Hudson Restaurant Week Lunch Food - 3/5. The pate was smooth but very strong to the point of overwhelming. The pickled veg paired well with it. Coq au Vin was tender and juicy but the sauce was weak and flavorless which did not add much to the dish. Lardons are meant to be crispy to add nice texture but they were just soggy and fatty. The chicken thigh was very red in the center making it look very unappetizing. Chocolate mousse was smooth and tasty. Service - 3/5. The lack of bread to start at a French restaurant is a bit baffling to me. Service was decent enough but the waitress had two hiccups where our credit cards went missing. The issue was eventually solved but not offering any compensation felt very unprofessional in a service field. Value - 3/5. Restaurant week is always a nice time to check out new places and the price is modest at $20 for a three course lunch. However the food was below average and the service was lacking making it hard to recommend. Parking - Private Lot (Free)

Yelp
Three of us enjoyed a relaxing Sunday brunch at Bistro La Source last weekend. Temperature was in the sixties, but we still were able to eat outside in the patio area because their heaters provided enough warmth. We had noon reservations, and were seated right away. The brunch crowd didn't start arriving until about 1:00pm. Food and service were very good and we didn't feel rushed at all. So, a very pleasant brunch in Jersey City.

Yelp
I should have seen the huge red flag when it said they automatically add 20% gratuity for every party (no matter what size)...Horrible service. Overpriced food. Won't be back.

Yelp
I've always walked by this place and finally decided to give it a try when friends came over to visit. They have a very big outdoor seating area, also dog friendly. The hostess sat us right away and the waiting staff were very friendly and attentive making sure we had everything we needed and refilling our water. I've ordered fish and chips for lunch. The fish was very tender, the breading a bit crunchy and the fries very well made. I'd definitely come back to try other dishes as there were too many to choose from. My friends were very happy with their dishes as well and recommended to try pork belly sandwich from the brunch menu.

Yelp
Well, it had been almost 2 years since I had eaten here for reasons I won't get into now. This was our "go to " spot 4-5 times a month for over a year. The food quality had been and still is very good. However, some things remained the same. Don't eat here with children. They don't have room inside for a stroller. The staff is not receptive to kids and will talk about you & your child. Another reviewer stated they were very pet friendly. During this visit a person came in with her pet to say hello to the staff. I am allergic to dogs and left the restaurant without dessert. Dogs get treated better than children. Non- service dogs are not allowed inside eating areas and that includes outside at tables.

Yelp
This is a quiet place where it appears many of locals frequent. Good wine list. They have seasonal specials, and all the basic French bistro type fare. Apparently they are popular for the mussels. We were offered bread, which is always a plus. I'm not sure why the low reviews, especially when there are definitely other places around the area that don't offer very many good wine lists. This place doesn't get too fancy with the food. Truffle fries, pasta, coq au vin, mussels, and the service, especially at the bar, was excellent.

Yelp
Got an order of mussels (the white wine, garlic, shallot sauce) and a drink for a quick stop and it was delicious. Server was also great. Looking forward to trying more food soon.
