Let me set the scene first! It's 102 degrees in early June and a wildfire broke out a couple of miles from the west entrance. They closed the park west entrance and advised people to drive the 2.5 HOURS to the east entrance. All of the food, groceries and gas are at the west end!
We set up camp, hot, sweaty and ready for food. Driving west, everything appeared to be closed. WTH? It's 6:30 pm on a Friday night. We had no idea the fire knocked out the electricity to EVERYTHING in 'town'! We saw people standing in front of B&S and stopped. We learned about no electricity but employees were waiting outside, in the misters, hoping the electricity would be restored! They had a bluegrass band scheduled and reservations were full!! Ximenez, with a very cool tie dyed shirt, said they were holding staff in hopes power would come back on!
We went to the grocery store, which had a generator and was open, to get anything to eat that didn't require electricity. We stood in line of 50 people to check out and.... Electricity back on! Put away our groceries and came back!
So, being about 100 degrees, 30+ people standing in line... the food was great, the servers still ready to kick butt and get it done!!
Everyone was friendly and hustled to get food and drinks out!
Thank you to the entire staff who stuck it out and took care of everyone!! That's dedication!!
