"The fast-casual restaurant took over the space formerly occupied by Black Bark, a fast-casual barbecue restaurant from seasoned restaurateur David Lawrence (1300 Fillmore) that also struggled to stay open in the neighborhood, eventually closing after two years." - Ellen Fort

"But in Yoshi’s absence, restaurateurs like David Lawrence have cited far less foot traffic as a cause for closures. Lawrence’s restaurants 1300 on Fillmore and Black Bark BBQ couldn’t survive without more feet on the street, though he hopes to relocate Black Bark on a livelier block of Fillmore." - Caleb Pershan

"After leading a barbecue revival effort in the Fillmore with the opening of Black Bark BBQ two years ago, married couple Monetta White and chef David Lawrence have shuttered their business at 1325 Fillmore Street. A concerned tipster reached out to let Eater know that the restaurant looked closed, but as a post on Instagram explains the closure isn’t permanent. Fortunately for fans of Lawrence’s brisket, whose dark, smoky exterior lent Black Bark its name, the restaurant will relocate. A new destination hasn’t been determined, but Lawrence tells The New Fillmore that he and White will set up shop “on the other end of Fillmore,” gesturing north across Geary. Eater SF has reached out for further details." - Caleb Pershan

So I really wanted to like this place. Service was good. Food: The brisket was great, I recommend it. But the chicken sausage was lackluster, additionally, the sides: mac and cheese and yams, were less than desirable. I was kind of confused with the taste of both items, as the both tasted much different than any other place i have had those items. Facility: Pretty dope restaurant located in a nice area.

Beans were not cooked enough. Surrounded by televisions makes it hard to talk. Pulled pork was good and choice of sauces at table is nice. Ambiance is interesting, seating not terribly comfortable.

Bbq chicken sandwich and a side of sweet potatoe fires were well done. Surprised by the flavor for whats its worth being under $20 for a meal. Not bad for lunch. Parking garage building is located adjacent to the restaurant. Will visit again to try the other smoked options l.

Ridiculously overpriced for what was mediocre food. They ran out of most their meat and only had chicken and brisket by the time I ordered, which was 2 hours before they closed. Both chicken and brisket were cooked well, but flavorless. BBQ sauce is needed. The brisket they gave me was easily %50 fat. I understand brisket has a lot of fat, but I don't want it to be half my meal. Sauce was good. Baked beans were pretty good. Collard greens decent in taste, but soggy. Overall the food could use some big improvements, but isn't bad. What made the experience bad was the price. The meal above and a soda cost me $23. Sodas alone are $4. I know this is SF, but staying in business will be very hard with those prices and less expensive options nearby. I will say that the staff was very sweet and friendly.

Ribs had a good crust, but the inside was a bit too fatty and not dry enough for my tastes. The potato salad was excellent, but the sweet potato fries had too much sugar on them, and the baked beans were not as soft as I prefer. The restaurant is brand new and super clean.

As a BBQ junkie, I'm surprised it took me so long to finally try this place. Once I did, I was a bit underwhelmed. The spot is a pretty cool one in a decent location. They also have a pretty extensive menu, but I finally settled on brisket and ribs with collared greens and baked beans. For the brisket, I was quite underwhelmed. It really didn't have much flavor, and certainly lacked a crusty "bark" on the outside. If anything, the bark was sort of soggy, as if the brisket had been sitting in some sort of a sealed container getting its steam room on. If you want brisket, 4505 is a WAY better option here. The ribs, on the other hand, we're actually really awesome. Super flavorful and had a good chew to them. Would definitely come back for an order of those. Both sides were just okay. Neither had a tremendous amount of flavor, but I wasn't too offended by that either. Would have loved to try the Mac and cheese, though, as that looked to be pretty delicious. As for the staff there, they were super friendly and willing to deal with my questions about what I should try. They also had a great selection of beers on tap, and quite a few TV's for if you wanted to catch a game there.

It isn't a sit-down place so don't expect that kind of experience. You actually wait in line and order the meal rather than sit down with a menu. The variations of sauces at the table were the highlight of the meal, the sandwich was a little colder than I would have liked. Great beer selection, also I had the mac and cheese and collard greens sides which were also well flavored.

Pretty solid 'que. Fatty brisket was tender with a tasty bark, pulled pork was moist and flavorful, and spicy sausage was tasty. Sides (Mac & cheese, cornbread) were fine but nothing special. A decent beer list and a nice atmosphere take it to a solid 4 stars!
