Good Morning Beautiful Black People -
Happy FriYay!
Today has started off great, and I just wanted to share how simply beautiful this Scorpio Season Eve has begun.
I'm really committed to not only checking out local spots in my neighborhood and area but, most importantly, supporting my black-owned businesses. So yesterday, I Googled local black-owned coffee shops near me, and two came up that I had decided to try--Common Grounds and Black Coffee. I pass both of these establishments at least once a week, and so today, when I awoke at 6:30, I decided that Black Coffee would be it.
When I walked through the door, I immediately got that Love Jones, I can come in here and work on MY business - writing, vlog editing, reading, or even, dare I say it - have a coffee date. It was a whole damn VIBE that I haven't felt entering an establishment in a while. As soon as I walked through the door as the second patron of the day, I was greeted cheerfully and asked if it was my first time. When I said yes, the young sister immediately began to tell me about their menu items, and her vigor in how excited she sounded was indeed a breath of fresh air, especially coming from a young person. Again, as she spoke and I looked around, the vibe was a GOOD intoxicating.
The menu items and names are DOPE AF and reminded me of when we went to Youngbloods to eat in the Rio Mall. The naming of items after black celebrities, such as the Light Skinned Keisha cup of coffee, had me grinning like I'd just opened my gift as a child and found a black Barbie inside. I ordered the EXTRA BOUJEE Bagel, and bayyyyybeeeee......my palate did a triple somersault with a tuck and roll as my tongue slapped five with the roof of my mouth! Fresh cream cheese, fresh thinly sliced salmon lox, arugula, onions, and tomatoes.....baby, it took everything out of me not to inhale it all in less than a minute from the moment I took the first bite. And the Light Skinned Keisha with Oat Milk.... baby, I'm from Zone 5, Wheat Street Gardens, but raised in Decatur - I ain't ever had Honey and LAVENDER in coffee. Lavender goes in bath salts and essential oil...not coffee, but that LSK did what it was supposed to do and then some! These folks had me buying coffee mugs (I collect them) and an insulated travel mug (Gotta support that black business)
But the cream cheese icing with fresh cracked pecans was my meeting this dope sister from New York who sat down and struck up a conversation with me, and we ran out of mouths for over an hour. We talked heavily about politics and the elections as she is in Georgia helping to rally the votes in small rural towns like Sparta, Green County, Madison, Washington ......etc. She and I conversation ran from politics to our heritage ( Did I tell you all I am 34% Nigerian), to family roots and background, raising kids, loving the shyt out of black men, zodiac signs, and why Pisces are some beguiling lying great lovers, to family secrets. Child, I found my new WFH spot, but I need to do some Instacart because these folks gonna get all my money.
Common Grounds is next. Oh, and don't forget to follow my YouTube; Being Chloe Barksdale.
