12 Great Places to Eat and Drink in Bellingham

"Fans come to trendy downtown restaurant Black Sheep for the tacos, and they stay for the tequila. The bright, tropical-influenced space is almost always humming with activity, as diners delve into hand-pressed tortillas topped with chicken tinga, chorizo, seared rockfish, and spiced black bean tacos. The cocktail list is anchored by creative takes on classic margaritas and palomas." - Megan Hill, Jessamyn Tuttle

Google
Family and I were looking for lunch on a Saturday and found this place. No wait, just a table straight away. Our wait staff was so sweet and very personable. The pizza here is like a focaccia bread dough. The kids were each able to get a slice and husband and I shared a full one. So good. The dough was airy and the ingredients were fresh. If you are looking for good pizza, this is your place. The vibes are also just, 10/10.

Great atmosphere and friendly service. The food was incredible. I especially loved the homemade tortillas .

Holy Guacamole! This place is a gem. If you come, do yourself a favor and get the pork belly taco. My gods it is good. Update: just had the carnitas chimi. Good lord that was amazing!

Google
A super cute restaurant in Bellingham! It’s definitely a hidden gem. The interior is cool and full of characters. A group of us shared some good meals and the price is decent too. Pork Belly Tacos were amazing! Have to try the homemade soda next time!

Google
We came here on a whim and were not disappointed! The tortillas and chips tasted fresh and homemade and all the toppings were delicious. Furthermore, our waitress was both attentive and witty. Also, the interior decor was quite simply awesome!

Google
Tacos worth a detour. We walked over after visiting Spark Museum of Electrical Invention. The tacos are amazing-handmade daily in the kitchen. Carne asado & mushroom kale were so good, we ordered another round. Friendly service & decent coffee round out this destination worthy eatery.

Salad and tacos were so good. The right flavours, texture, and they looked good!

Yelp
Overall: One of the more memorable taco experiences I've had in awhile, would definitely recommend! The good: The tacos are delicious, filling, and fresh. I was worried that 2 wouldn't be enough (along with sharing a guac appetizer), but that wasn't a problem. I went with the classic carne asada and the baja fish, and both were incredible and flavorful. The tacos came out promptly and were hot, and they have plenty of drinks to choose from. Both indoor and outdoor seating, and we were able to walk in on a Friday for lunch. The not-so-good: Honestly not much. I was going to argue that they are a tad expensive ($5-6 dollars a taco), but like I said they are filling and delicious and that seems to be an average rate nowadays. Food/drink: 9/10 Atmosphere: 9/10 Service: 9/10

Yelp
I love that when you walk into Black Sheep that the first thing you see is a vending machine that has things like local art, mystery bags, and valuable trinkets, such as "f**k's to give", "kiss me" kits, and coloring books! It provides you with all the things you didn't know you needed while you wait to be seated. We came as a party of 3 at 6:00 on a Friday night, and we only had to wait 2-3 minutes for a table. This round, I ordered a mezcal old fashioned for something bold and strong. It delivered and was a great way to start the night. Who doesn't love classic chips and guacamole to go with their tacos? I enjoyed their chicken tinga and carne asada tacos along with their relaxed atmosphere. Their guacamole is excellent. I love that it was busy without being overwhelming. I'll be back for some margaritas, snacks and vending machine treasures.

Yelp
Good eats and drink. Nonalcoholic iced tea spiced with habanero was good. Two of the pork belly tacos made for a solid lunch. Bar service was great. Street parking (paid).

Yelp
Breakfast burritos were amazing! Lots of guac and fresh veggies and the right amount of eggs and chorizo to balance everything. Their current garlic mango salsa is fantastic - please keep it in permanent rotation!!

Yelp
I hadn't been to the Black Sheep in several years, so I was excited when some family members suggested we meet there for lunch last weekend. From its exposed brick walls to its over-the-top tacos, Black Sheep continues to deliver tasty eats at its iconic downtown Bham location. I started with a locally brewed Mexican Lager (served with a fresh slice o' lime, of course) and waited for the rest of the group to get there. When everyone arrived, we started with some appies: a big ol 'bowl of impossibly fresh guac, and a bowl of their famous spicy black bean dip. Both were excellent! Then we dove into some tacos (I got a fish taco and a chicken tinga) and they were filling and delicious. Their taco prices might seem a little high, but really it only takes 1-2 tacos to fill you up. These aren't your typical, tiny street food tacos. There were two vegans in our group and they were thrilled at the many meat-free options on the menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive too. I'll definitely keep the Black Sheep on my list for a good lunch or dinner in the Ham!

Yelp
Black Sheep has a vibrant atmosphere and delicious food. My favorite dish is the carnitas tacos. The staff are always friendly, and the food comes out quickly. Great service!

Yelp
Amazing tacos! I don't like tacos, but wow I love black sheep tacos! The pork belly is my absolute favorite. There's so much flavor and the chutney doesn't taste too fruity since it's mango pineapple which I also dislike. The pork belly was juicy and the corn tortilla is so soft and fresh. I love the fish tacos too but I had such a tiny piece in it. Finally the Carne asada was tender and tasty. Usually beef is always dry and chewy. This was cooked perfectly with all the toppings and really the tortilla is the winner for me. There's a drive through window. You need to press the door bell for service and can order online from their website! If you come early they tell you to come back for pick up. Overall, delicious and I will be back!

Yelp
Wow I wish I took a second to take a picture of my breakfast burrito but I was starving. However I ordered it and was pleasantly surprised and impressed by how great it was. Top breakfast burrito I've ever had. I loved it. Full of flavor and cooked to perfection. This is 21+ restaurant so not kid friendly but they have a great selection of specialty cocktails for you to enjoy. The service was amazing we got seated quickly and taken care of fast. Food was out within 20 mins. It's a cute place with a lot of bar seating. Very casual atmosphere. Great for a Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
Delicious, affordable, and with great service. The ambiance was hip, casual and open. Great for a date night!

Yelp
Good fairly reasonably priced food, $4 extra for egg whites on a drink though! Staff are not always the most welcoming

Yelp
Black sheep is an amazing low key spot to bring your pup and have great cocktails + tacos! My partner and I had the salsa trio, queso, and fish + carnitas tacos. The service was fantastic and very friendly ground folks. Highly recommend as a spot to check out if you're 21+!

Yelp
Excellent tacos and guac, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Drive-up window goes the extra mile! Greatly appreciated on-street pandemic booth. I miss the shrimp tacos.

Yelp
This place has genuinely earned all of the high ratings. I have been coming here for years. I just have neglected to review it until now. I love their food. It is an absolutely gorgeous setting with some cool party lights. Not quite sure I totally understand the vending machine, but I guess that's part of the eclectic charm! A must try place for sure

Yelp
Arrived at 2pm on a Sunday and was fairly busy, but my partner and I were seated right away. Service was prompt and friendly! The restaurant also has a relaxed vibe with neat patio lights and edison bulbs. Loved the Sleeveless in Seattle drink--a mildly sweet/tart gin mule, it went down easy. The tacos were fantastic! My asada tacos and my partner's carnitas tacos were both full of their respective ingredients. I worried that the tortillas would break, but they were the best ones I have had in a while: slightly thicker than usual with a lovely texture. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Best taco's ever ..... game, set, match ..... the unique drinks also make for a wonderful meal

Yelp
I've been here several times. The food is excellent. The drinks are on point. Wonderful Bellingham vibe. Slightly rustic with touches of elegance. Today was Tuesday so I had tacos, fish tacos to be precise. They were excellent with pickled onions and carrots, just delightful. Service was quick and super friendly.

Yelp
DERIOUSSSSSSS yum yum!! The atmosphere was very cute and cozy. The over hanging lights was a nice touch and just a nice vibe all together. Got seated right away and our food and drinks came out surprisingly fast. Couldn't be happier with our chimichangas and dude-a-Rita's. Smaller menu but they have mastered it, plus vegan and vegetarian options!

Yelp
Good tacos and prices. Would go again. I took my cousins here when they were visiting from Texas. It was very affordable.

Yelp
I've been here a few times, mostly because it's highly enjoyed by my friends. It is a great spot to hang out with friends. Wonderful indoor and outdoor seating options. The quality of the food at Black Sheep is great, I've never been disappointed by anything I've tried. Their queso and chips - DELICIOUS. If you are wanting to try something uniquely special to this restaurant, try the queso. Some of my favorite things to get are their tacos. Both their breakfast and regular tacos are great. I particularly love their lunch time/ dinner tacos because they are so fresh! I love the fruit and greens they incorporate into the tacos. The most recent visit I had I got the pork belly and asada tacos (what is pictured). I take off a star because of the staff. Every-time I have gone, the staff has always been "stand off-ish". They don't seem particularly happy to be there, and seem rushed when at the table - a bit strange. Also, as some other people have mentioned, $5-6 per individual taco is a lot. I care a lot about the service when I go to restaurants, so I only really keep returning to this restaurant because of my friends that really enjoy the food. The food is worth it, but there are definitely other places in town I would rather go. DISCLAIMER: they are really strict about 21+ policy. you cannot eat or sit there if you do not have your ID - even if you do not plan on having alcohol.

Yelp
I admittedly rely on staff knowledge for decision making when everything looks good, and black sheep didn't disappoint! 3 vegetarian taco options (that's a lot, for reference) all flavorful and nice tortillas, good starters, and creative drinks! Elote was ~fancy~ and delicious. They refilled our chips for free when we ran low (chips are homemade and pretty thicc, but cronchy and not overly greasy or salted) Love the vibe of the place. There's a lot of good indoor seating and outside covered.

Yelp
What a cool spot. SHOUT OUT TO LEVI, our wonderful helper, who was so attentive and caring; sat down with us to discuss which tacos the spouse should get as he cannot handle spicy food - and was spot on about the recommendations. He loved the mushroom and kale tacos - this was a huge surprise to both of us cuz not most people would think, oh I want a mushroom and kale taco lol. We each ordered 3 diff tacos to try them out. They have a take on tacos al pastor, with shredded pork and pineapple (but it's not exactly the same). My favorite, also a surprise to me, was the fish taco. The only thing I wished was that the piece of fish was smaller or there were two small pieces (it looked great but was hard to hold). Had a really yummy cocktail of which they have a plethora of offerings. Loved the ambience; it's a long narrow space with interesting bar décor. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is street parking. We would definitely stop by again, and it would be a great place to bring guests.

Yelp
Love popping in here when I'm visiting Bellingham. Excellent food and service! Tons of veggie and gf options as well!

Yelp
Love the apps and drink specials. service is great. amazing views especially around sunset. Killer date vibes* Good with friends & I've even taken my baby who sat happy at our corner table but I wouldn't normally bring my toddler & baby here together.

Yelp
Black Sheep is a cool taco joint and bar in the heart of Downtown Bellingham, WA. Tacos are ordered a la carte, and the restaurant offers unique offerings such as pork belly and fried chicken. You may also choose from a few breakfast options earlier in the day. I ordered the fried chicken and rockfish tacos and each of them were extremely flavorful and filling. The guacamole was also delicious and is perfect for sharing. I have no complaints about the service. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and made sure patrons wanted for nothing. Black Sheep should definitely be a stop the next time you're in Bellingham!
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
The food is delicious and the drinks are unique and tasty, with homemade ingredients. The outdoor seating is spacious and inviting.

Yelp
Fresh flavors, warm service, and the best guacamole I've had in a while. Ample portions. Looking forgot trying their happy hour. Drinks looked great.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered the Natchos and the Chip to toppings ratio was Fantastic...we ended up asking for more taco chips. Guacamole was so tasty and the beer cold and refreshing. Service excellent! Will definitely return and also recommend Black Sheep.

Yelp
Last year I said I've been to Bellingham twice and I've eaten here 5 times. This year we came two more times. Never disappoints! It can get loud for dinner, but we just discovered lunch time is peaceful. Good drinks, good food, nice to sit outside.
google avatar

Gigi B.

Yelp
The service was great. We were seated right at our reservation time which was amazing. I highly recommend making a reservation as it can get very crowded. The restaurant is cute. The nachos and fish tacos were great. I had a mezcal old fashioned which was *chef's kiss*.
google avatar

Yelp
PORK BELLY TACOS. Done. That's literally all you need to know. Honestly they were fantastic and the meat just melted in my mouth. Everything came out perfect and within an appropriate amount of time. I came during dinner on a Thursday night with a group of friends and it was my first time and I'm so happy they introduced me to this place. I also got the prickly pear non-alcoholic beverage and it was delicious! You definitely deserve a good pork belly taco and a silly drink!

Sarah H.

Yelp
Checked this place out for the first time last week. The tacos were absolutely delicious. We also ordered a side of black beans... also yummy. Our waiter was super attentive and kept checking on us regularly. I ordered a cocktail and it was so good. Highly recommend although $6 for a small taco is pricey but to be honest, Id eat here again.
google avatar

Nathan R.

Yelp
The best chimiganga I have had in my entire life! Not exaggerating, this place is absolutely amazing. Good margaritas too
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
We've been to Black Sheep for a couple years now and it's tanked in every way. A little advice, if that bar says they can't seat you (even with open chairs), don't wait because they will seat people who have come behind you first
google avatar

Erica R.

Yelp
The service was almost spot on...our drinks came after our meals but needless to say the food was fantastic and the drinks were amazing! The service was friendly. The atmosphere was quaint and lovely. The sound level wasn't too loud and we were able to hear our selves talk. I have been here before and highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Michaela M.

Yelp
Food is amazing and drinks are 10/10. Everything has improved from the last time I was there. I highly recommend the salad!

Yelp
Up for a day trip to B-ham. After roaming around Fairhaven for a while, we decided to give Black Sheep a try. Everything was top notch! The service was prompt, got to sit outside on a hot July day. All three tacos I had were really good. Fried chicken & pork belly tied for first. Asada was good but couldn't compete with the first two. Really good stuff, try them!
google avatar

Yelp
Had sometime before our flight and we were excited to find a taco joint with good reviews, so we stopped by here to eat. The food and dinning experience was not what we hoped for. The food was not very flavorful, the tacos were cold, and the rice was not good. Decor-its a very cool place. It's got the bright colors of Mexico and has great lighting. There are lots of tables and even has an upstairs dining area. I really liked the skylight and all the plants hanging from the ceiling. Service-our waitress was good, but we're returned our tacos for being cold, and they came back at the same temperature. Once we got our tacos back, it was like we weren't there anymore. Service kinda just stopped. Food-as mentioned, our tacos were cold, lukewarm at best. The shrimp tacos had good flavor, but chorizo tacos lacked flavor. The rice was not good. Our favorite food item was the guac and chips. Food needs some improvement. We didn't try any mixed drinks, and maybe kitchen staff were off their game that day, but it just didn't work for us.
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
The first words out of the bartenders mouth when we sat down to order was "have you been briefed on the tacos that we are out of tonight?". When you market your business as "A bar with tacos" and your entire menu is seven tacos, you'd better not be out of any of them. I wasn't going to make a comment here until I saw the waitress filling a chip container from a bag of Juanita's tortilla chips. The menu clearly says "house made chips". This place doesn't deserve my business.

Yelp
By @iwanttobewhatieat Maybe because I am the Black Sheep I LOVE @blacksheepbham OR as a black sheep I can appreciate the epic tacos and beverages this place always serves me. Located in the heart of Bellingham,WA is this fine little gem. Tacos so good no matter how bad you are, there is some sort of forgiveness granted by the taco gods. It's a great place for the non dairy, gluten free peoples as well. I HIGHLY recommend everything on the menu and the service is also amazing. Killer atmosphere, killer food, killer service that welcomes all the sheep's of all the colors.

Yelp
Was visiting Bellingham recently and our hosts suggested we pop in for some tacos. Being from Southern CA, and living in Northern CA, I had some reservations, but these tacos delivered! Very flavorful and tasty. I had beef and al pastor (bbq pork) and they were both very tasty. We enjoyed the atmosphere too. A great place to pop in for a quick bite!

Justin N.

Yelp
We ordered the salsa trio and 6 tacos. The salsa was excellent and the tacos were very good. Our favorite was black bean potato followed by chicken tinga. Well seasoned with the perfect touch of heat; enough to make your lip tingle, but not so much to lose the flavors! Service was quick and friendly
google avatar

Darryl H.

Yelp
Came on positive Yelp reviews. Glad we did. The place was packed, but we still were seated quickly. Really good tacos (yum!) and friendly service. Enjoyed chatting with Peter. When we visit Bellingham again we would return.

Yelp
I was so impressed with this place! I brought my dogs with me so we were able to sit on the outdoor patio. They have done such a good job with the patio that it feels like a nice restaurant and not a temporary street enclosure. The vibes were so good! And the dogs loved it too. The drinks were great, I got a frose but they had a really awesome margarita selection with lots of creative options. I got the salad and it was MASSIVE and really delicious. One of the best salads I have had! Hit the spot perfectly. My friend got the carne asada tacos and really loved them. Only downside was that the chips were not free. Super cute vibes, friendly service, and the dogs loved it!

Fabian L.

Yelp
Very fun bar and restaurant. It has nice outdoor seating as well as a huge bar and indoor seating. The tacos are simple and delicious. They use high quality ingredients. Everything is a-la Carte, so you can have a variety of. Chicken, fish, carne asada, etc. I recommend the salsa trio with chips too. Lots of cocktail choices, but I just tried their house-made grapefruit soda. I would have taken a gallon to go if I could.
google avatar

Sabrina T.

Yelp
Service 1/5 - I was really let down by the service at this restaurant. We sat outside on the patio and our server did not check on us once after the drinks and food came out so we weren't able request more drinks or water. She also confirmed she could take the cilantro off my tacos but they came with an abundance of it which ruined them for me. Food 2.5/5 - The tacos were hit or miss and definitely very Americanized. The carne asada was tough and the fried chicken was dry. The salsa verde on the fried chicken had a kick and was enjoyable. Our favorite were the carnitas and pork belly taco, melts in your mouth. Drinks 3.5/5 - I got the strawberry dude-a-rita and my friend got the banda verdita. Drinks were decent and I wish our server came back to check on us so we could order more!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice bar with tacos and small- medium plates for a quick bite. Has lots of seating, clean restrooms and perfect ambience for a rainy day lunch. We got the sleeveless in seattle cocktail which was gin based with ginger beer , honey. Would try one of their house-made sodas next time. We got tacos- steak& egg, pork belly& egg, potato and black bean 9pff the weekend brunch menu as well as the cauliflower taco off the normal menu. Small sized tacos- two per person filled us up along with cocktails from their extensive list. Friendly and very quick service as the tacos seem to just need assembly. Bill came to around 34$ for 4 small tacos and a drink. Not bad for a sit down lunch in a nice spot.
google avatar

Trixie B.

Yelp
Super cool vibe and even cooler tacos! Each of their exceptional tacos has been so well thought out and developed, featuring the absolute best flavor combination for every one. I ordered the chicken tinga taco and the pork belly taco--the pork belly taco was next level, especially when you got a bite that included a slightly charred, slightly caramelized end piece of the pork. My dining mates enjoyed the vegetarian mushroom taco as well as the carne asada taco. Huge portion of guacamole and the black been dip was delicious as well. I wasn't as impressed with their margaritas, but my Paloma was exceptional. I know there are other great places to eat in Bellingham, but why risk it when you KNOW the best tacos live right here?

Constance A.

Yelp
Happy hour all day Sunday, say less! I haven't dived too much into the food. The nachos are good they really do pack on the toppings which is great!! The drinks are delicious and the environment is so cute! From the outdoor area to the bathrooms this place has thought out their ideal ambiance and succeeded. The service is great especially if at the bar! Oh they also have to-go pick up window which is super neat!!
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
The chorizo burrito was literally one of the BEST things I have ever eaten. They make it in-house and it had incredible flavor. The homemade tortillas for tacos were different than normal tortillas and definitely quite a treat. We got the carnitas tacos and it had a unique salsa. Great service, incredible food and yummy drinks!!! I appreciate how Black Sheep is working to keep everyone safe during COVID - being diligent on checking vaccination cards for inside diners and offering covered seating outside.
