"The showcase at Blackbird Bakery is going to stop you in your tracks with items like morning glory muffins, potato-cheddar quiche, and pear-anise scones. Perhaps most irresistible is the Downtowner, a sort of rolled-up, crispy croissant topped with vanilla sugar." - Jay Friedman

"There are quite a few boutique bakeshops on the island, but the only one you need to know about is Blackbird. This is where to go for a solid breakfast or snack to go with a latte. Even if the person in front of you sends you into a rage by claiming the last two slices of almond butter layer cake there are many other delicious things to be had here - mainly, Helen’s French Roll, which is the minimalist-chic cousin to coffee cake." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
10000000/10 recommend! They made my daughter‘s smash cake for her first birthday and this cake was absolutely stunning and beautiful and delicious. I could not have been more happy with what I had ordered. Will always be getting my cakes from them from now on because you can just not go wrong. The cake was so moist and delicious icing. Highly recommend.

Google
My go-to-place for delicious and high quality sweets whether it be birthday cakes, hot beverages or just a simple slice of cheese cake. They can get extremely busy at times but this particular evening I decided to sit down, take a sip and unwind and feel festive with their Christmas lights and music. Superb experience 👌

Google
The Blackbird Bakery came recommended to us, and it was 110% worth a visit! The staff was super welcoming, and the environment was warm and spacious with plenty of seating, accommodating the constant flow of customers. We were helped right away and our only problem was deciding what to purchase. Kim, the manager, was wicked sweet and kind. The cowboy quishe and croissants are a must. We will definitely be back!

Google
I love sweets! This place does not disappoint. Red velvet for the win. Friendly faces and demeanor with great customer service. Thanks

Google
This bakery offers a relaxing, peaceful setting. Their pastries are the best in town. You must stop by when visiting Bristol.

Google
Visited Bristol while on vacation, and my husband got me a croissant and hot chocolate. Hands down best croissant and hot chocolate I’ve ever had- we had to go back and get more. And the croissants are giant. 10/10 recommend.

Every time we visit Bristol we take a time out to visit one of the best sweets shops I've been to. This bakery never disappoints the family. The only drawback... which isn't the fault of the business is that they are so popular that 3 out of 4 visits has resulted in a 30 to 40 minute line. Obviously it's worth it, seeing as how we keep coming back. I strongly recommend the fruit tarts. The fruit is always so sweet, juicy and fresh. The cheesecake is also a good choice and do yourself a favor... get a sampling of the donuts!

Google
I was so happy to try the peanut butter bar. It was delicious. However, the eclair was wet on the bottom which is not appealing. The eclairs are usually a lot better. The pot d crème is a good choice as well.

Yelp
Quaint place very historical very friendly staff Great fireplace area to sit around Great selection of Baked items which are over the top We had quiche and a cranberry muffin Chi Latte was very good

Yelp
The store felt like a proper coffee shop. When you enter, it almost has a bookshop feel. The place was clean and had plenty of seats. There was a wide selection of "goodies". The donut twist was good. It wasn't great but it was good. We also sampled the carrot cake and a savory pocket. The coffee was good. It was the cashiers second day. She did a good job. She was knowledgeable on the items and was able to give us solid recommendations. Overall it was a nice experience.

Yelp
I found this bakery on a quick little weekend trip a couple years ago and I'm still thinking about it! So I will bribe anyone I know who will be going to Bristol to bring me treats back from Blackbird. Pictured is my latest haul of "bring me whatever looks good". A cherry almond filled donut, two yeast style glazed donuts, a cherry almond bar and an almond croissant. Not pictured was a blueberry lemon scone, apple fritter and lemon bar. I LOVE all things cherry and almond so that's part of my love for Blackbird, they always have several options in that flavor combo, which I find rare. The cherry almond filled donut is seriously sweet with the icing and filling so if that's not your thing, pass on it or eat half. The croissants are light, airy and flaky like a croissant should be. The bars are dense, moist and full of flavor with a great crumb topping. You could easily share one but why would you? A great little southern American bakery .... Sugary sweet

Yelp
Excellent coffee. Excellent service! Awesome atmosphere. Bought my FAVORITE coffee mug there; It's beautiful. Purple flowers and butterflies; above it is captioned: no bad days. Awesome !

Yelp
This is our "can't miss" visit whenever we are in Bristol TN/VA. The finest apple fritters, cakes and pies. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Can't wait to return!

Bryan K.

Yelp
Blackbird Bakery is a Bristol institution. We stopped in while visiting for the annual music festival last weekend. There was a line out the door (good sign) and for the most part, it was worth the wait. The pastries were next level. My wife said the maple glazed donut was the best one she has ever had - that's saying a lot! On the room for improvement side, the ice coffee was mostly milk and the latte was meh. I'd recommend this place for all things baked, but maybe get your coffee elsewhere.

Bella J.

Yelp
The interior is nice and it has a big spacious place to eat. I did not like any of the bakery items whether it is the cookie, muffin or the scone. People have different taste, so it can't be helped. There's an awesome restaurant across the street for dinner if you are in their area. Staff members are very polite and nice though.

Mya A.

Yelp
CUTEST place/indoor upstairs seating area with a large assortment of EVERYTHING!! Awesome and helpful staff, plus the goodies we got were outstanding.

Diana C.

Yelp
This was a great spot! The WiFi worked well for doing some work while I waited and it was a short drive to the airport. The service was great and the maple donut I had was fabulous. The lavender oat milk latte was alright. The ambiance was pretty cute with two upstairs areas and lots of spots to sit and munch your bakery. I'd definitely recommend it and come back!

Nancy W.

Yelp
Unbelievable array of cakes, pies, pastries, doughnuts, cookies and much more. I chose the individual key lime pie and spouse chose maple iced doughnuts. Sooooooo good! Both women who waited on us were patient as we had a hard time deciding! The bakery itself is charming, beautifully lit up at night.

P B.

Yelp
The bakery is in a very cute place in Bristol. Parking might be hard to find on the weekend. The selection of pastries and goodies was outstanding. The server said everything was made in house except for the ice cream which is brought in from a local creamery and the French Macarons. We tried a Pecan Carmel Brownie, an Apple Streusel Cheesecake, a chocolate cream pie slice. It did take several days to nibble on it all but we had to try several items. They were all delicious. There hours are great if you want to pick something up on your way home after dinner or an early show, they are open until 10 pm. Most bakeries close much earlier. Definitely will be stopping by again.

Vincent M.

Yelp
An almost overwhelming offering of baked goods. We stopped in and with a decent line, we almost didn't know where to begin. Luckily we were full from lunch and had some restraint. The apple fritter and donuts caught my attention, but I couldn't resist grabbing a chocolate chip cookie. My wife went for a cupcake and donut. Everything was quite good. Even though some were enjoyed the next day, it held up relatively well.

Bridget D.

Yelp
What's not to love? Only bad thing about my experience is that I couldn't get one (or two) of everything - it all looked so delicious. I opted for the red velvet cupcake and donut. Hubs got eclairs. All awesome! Great ambiance & super friendly people, as well.

Dana D.

Yelp
This place was HAPPENING! I expected a very limited selection of stale donuts but that was not the case. There were so many things to choose from we couldn't decide! We got an apple fritter, a pink almond donut and a cinnamon bun. We saved them for the next morning and they were all still delicious! The people behind the counter were super helpful; the ladies we met in line were regulars. This place made me wish we lived closer!

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
Pros: good flavor drip coffee, cake donuts were yummy, it is a quant shop with lots of seating. Neutral: the young man at the counter was pleasant enough. He answered all our questions and gave recommendations. The lady that rang us up seemed indifferent. A quick smile but overall it didn't feel friendly and welcoming. Cons: I got a cup of ice and black things came out with the ice which makes me concerned about the iced latte I ordered. I also got the berry coffee cake. The topping part was tasty but the cake part was very dense and not enjoyable. All in all we expected more based on all the reviews. If I'm ever back in the area I may give it another shot and just try other items. Like I said the donuts were tasty.

R R.

Yelp
Wow what a great selection they have. Pastries are super good. They even have ice cream there. Service was excellent. We were just in town for a few days but went there 5 times..

Linda I.

Yelp
The place is very cozy. Has a lot of seating area. It gets busy so recommended to come here early to have more options to buy. I got the mocha cream Donut and apple caramel cheesecake. Both were good. My sister in law really liked her croissant and scone.

Rafael C.

Yelp
Other than service with a smile what can you say about this establishment. As I sit here and write this review I'm taken back to the first time I walked in stood in line with amazement glaring into the display case with excitement as if I was 8 years old again wanting more than I could handle the smells of the creams, cakes and pastries with the faint smell of freshly brewed coffee in the background of my senses it was finally my turn and with glee I ordered way more than I should have but it was well worth it, if you haven't been here and your on the fence about going let this review help your decision. Thank you blackbird you are true craftsman

Allan M.

Yelp
Great corner bakery downtown. Used to be a Mason building. So many options for baked goods it was incredible. They do not go cheap on sweets, that's for sure. Must see if in town! Service was wonderful and place was clean and upscale with several tables outside with some planted pieces for ambiance.

Gilbert G.

Yelp
Great place for coffee and pastries - about one block away from the Birth of Country Music Museum and The Bristol Hotel. It has a cute interior and lot of attorneys in the morning. In the mid-afternoon, it was crowded with a long line (and substantial waiting time). Coffee was very good (but not great). The pastries were OK, such as the cannolis on the bottom shelf. But it was not fresh - I think the cannolis were sitting there for a few days. The appearance of Blackbird Bakery is lovely. But the brewed coffee and pastries were good (but not great).

Serena S.

Yelp
Blackbird bakery is a little piece of Americana tucked away in Bristol Virginia. Fantastic baked goods for great prices. The orange dream cake was fabulous.

Etta L.

Yelp
Love the carrot cake cup cake. Normally not into nuts but this was not overwhelming. I picked up another one on my way out the next day.

Patrick C.

Yelp
5-6 people standing around while line backing up. Very slow service. Didn't know what 'flat white' coffee was. Great selection but very very slow service

Cindy T.

Yelp
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating - there were no peanut butter bars in the display but they went to the back and got me one. 5 stars! We ordered kolaches which were ok but not amazing. Three stars. We ordered many different desserts which were fantastic!!! Highly recommend 5 stars on every single item.

Honest R.

Yelp
Visited this location late on a Saturday night, it's nice to have a bakery that stays open late, to be able to grab a treat later in the day. The prices are little higher, but they offer a wide variety of options to choose from. Good customer service.

Laura C.

Yelp
Amazing food. Amazing prices. If you are in the area YOU HAVE TO TRY THE APPLE PIE. Unlike anything i've ever had. Best bakery ever.

Brenda Y.

Yelp
Always a delightful experience (but because I'm local I'll return a lighter time when the line isn't out the door!) Cappuccino, Danish Wedding Cookies, cannolis are delicious. Tennessee Sourdough makes the best French toast! And much more. I don't care for their scones because they are crunchy sugary and I prefer more cake-like texture. And I wish they made a plain poundcake.

Frank W.

Yelp
What a sweet place, in more ways than one. Staff was terrific. My wife went straight for the pink almond cake even before I had a chance to tell her about it. We bought two and used one as a bribe. We'll be back the next trip through Bristol, with a bigger car...

Dianne Z.

Yelp
Super cute bakery/coffee shop on the edge of downtown. Looked to be in a historic building. One half of the interior is the area where they have all the baked goods/service area. The other half was a cozy spot with sofas and chairs for customers to enjoy. We happened to be there on a day when the weather was nice so we sat outside. There were about 4 or 5 tables outside. Nice place to sit and enjoy your coffee and pastries and watch the world go by. I noticed a lot of take-out orders on a Friday afternoon including what looked like a large cake so seems like this is a happening spot! According to their posted hours, they are open late into the night so a nice place to chill in the evenings as well.

Yelp
I am sad to report that this Blackbird bakery has real health and safety concerns. We have been wanting to try this bakery because of all the good things we heard about it. So, I stopped by today and purchased over $60 of various items to take home and try. One of those items was a piece of apple pie which I opened in the car (yes, I was going to sneak a treat before taking all the goodies home). Glad I did! The piece of apple pie was covered in mold! Pictures posted so you can confirm for yourself. Of course the pie was in a box with other pastries so who knows if all of them had been contaminated or not. Took the whole order back and I must say they responded very well. Apologized profusely, told me this was not up to their standards and refunded my entire purchase. While I accept their apologies it's not like the apple pie was hidden in a bottom drawer or something. It was under its own glass display lid right there on top front counter right next to the cash register. So, although their pastries are likely wonderful I'm just not going to risk poisoning so we are not going back. I am not writing this to dissuade you from patronizing this establishment, but to warn you to be extra vigilant when and if you do. Inspect each and every item before you leave the shop. And if that isn't feasible, please do so before consuming or giving to your children or elderly friends and relatives.

Yelp
Gret deserts and delicious doughnuts. Some things are a little sweet for me, but everyone I was traveling with enjoyed every bite. The price can be a little steep, but they are a true bakery, and you do get what you pay for. We ordered and picked up through drive through so I don't know but the inside atmosphere.

Ginger B.

Yelp
We were on the search for fresh baked sourdough bread. Blackbird has a sweet sourdough bread which though delicious was not what we were looking for. However, everything we purchased from Blackbird was outstanding. We bought the veggie quiche, a cinnamon roll, and a loaf of the sweet sourdough bread. Our favorite was the cinnamon roll. It was huge and covered with cream cheese frosting! We will be back when in the area. Service was friendly and quick. Heads up: drive through only was open. Not sure if that is permanent or just a temporary situation.

Dan H.

Yelp
The blueberry scone was excellent, and paired very well with my cappuccino. I will definitely be back

Sonya C.

Yelp
The pastries were delicious as always. We got there pretty early in the day so the selection was good.

Elle P.

Yelp
I went here one time and was very impressed with the options of food. The hardest thing about going here is picking what you want! It all looks so good. Super fast service and I was impressed with not only the aesthetic of the food but the taste!

Rajesh P.

Yelp
Amazing bakery. No joke the line never ended when I wa there. We chilled out in front of the fireplace with a few friends. The line was like 20 deep and didn't end. Great selection of deserts and coffee and ice cream

Beth L.

Yelp
Great little spot to take a break while shopping downtown! Super friendly staff and tasty desserts.

Ida M.

Yelp
Dear Lord. This place is so good. Can we please talk about their Pink Almond Cake?! I'd seen it in there before...but never ordered it. It just sounded...meh. Boy was I wrong?!? Normally...I choose vehicles for their cream cheese icing: Red Velvet cake, for instance. I'm not really a "cake" fan, per se. I think of cake as questionable "sugar bread" in general. To me..it's all about the icing. Blackbird has a really decadent cream cheese frosting. (Every bite tastes like pure Catholic Guilt.) In the past, I've had their lemon and blueberry bars...cherry bar...cherry cheesecake...the brownie tower...and of course Red Velvet Cake. (Yes...I meant to capitalize the Red Velvet Cake. It's that good.) Everything is delicious at Blackbird. Last night I was craving their cream cheese icing. Sidebar: We didn't go to the Commonwealth location because for some reason they consider the cream cheese icing on their cinnamon roll as a viable cream cheese frosting option. No. That's just not right. We had been through the drive thru there and specifically asked about something with cream cheese frosting...and the girl says..."Sure. We have cinnamon rolls. Those have cream cheese icing on them." Now...while I appreciate the goodness of all things Blackbird...to compare a simple drizzly smearing of their icing on a cinnamon roll to the rich...creamy...delicious...thick..absolute perfection of the icing on their cakes is like trying to compare a beat up 1976 mustard-gold Datsun B-210 to a 2021 sleek, black Lexus. So...my bf went down to pick something up. He FaceTimed me and said they didn't have RVC. Then...his phone went dead. I sent the text: Cream Cheese Icing This guy comes back to the house with something called a Pink Almond Cake. Oh...My...God. If you like that sort of almond/cherry flavor...you HAVE TO try this cake. Like I said...I don't like "sugar bread"...but I LOVE this moist, delicious cake. I never want anything from there except THIS. Not only is the cake delicious...it's draped in a super rich, creamy, thick layer of their icing and lightly dusted with what appeared to be sanding sugar in a few areas. So you get that icing and cake...and then in some places you get that light crunch of the sanding sugar. Normally that texture freaks me out...but in this case...it just seemed to add to the mouth-feel and "experience". It's like sex...in your mouth. If I didn't have a deep fear of morphing into Wilford Brimley in a dia-bee-tus ad...that cake would be a fond memory in an empty white box right now. You gotta try it. AND...it sure would be nice if the drive through on Commonwealth offered this in a cupcake or something.

Hannah J.

Yelp
Prices were reasonable and a huge array of treats. The donuts did not taste very fresh. The key lime tart could use more lime flavoring.

Kendra Z.

Yelp
Just do yourself a favor and stop here! We got ours to go but wished we had time to sit and enjoy this gem. We got the hash brown casserole, delicious, still thinking about it. The bow tie (glazed donut in a cute shape) was perfect. Top that all off with quick service from a sassy southern gal who made me LOL! If I'm anywhere near a 60 mile radius I will be back!

Lebond C.

Yelp
Not worth my money. Their sourdough bread is too sweet and made of cheap ingredients. Donuts and cakes are way too sweet. Buy some for parties, guests and visitors you do not really care. Treat your daughter-in-law with their bakery items not your own daughter. You know what I am saying?

BJ W.

Yelp
If you don't mind the cashier rushing you and being passive aggressive and then publicly shunning you for their mistake then this is the place to go!

Heather R.

Yelp
It is okay nothing special to me. I think my favorite thing was the cinnamon roll. The other desserts were nothing special.

Thomas A.

Yelp
Came here for the first time a month ago and it was pretty good. We ordered 2 donuts (they could honestly use a little more filling) and 2 coffees. Prices are fair and the staff seemed friendly. Fast forward to last week, we went here and ordered 2 donuts and a piece of pumpkin cheesecake. The cheesecake was delicious but again, the donuts need more filling. One of the donuts, coconut frosted, which I didn't eat until I got home, was beyond stale...I actually took a bite and threw it away. Had I eaten it there, I would have insisted on a refund or a different donut that was, at least, somewhat fresh. We will give this location another chance, but I will make sure the donut isn't stale before I leave.

Karen O.

Yelp
would it be possible to offer one item in each category (cupcake, cake, muffin, etc) that is made with MONK FRUIT that does not spike a person's insulin (because it is not seen by the body as a carb nor even a sugar) and almond flour (gluten free)? trying to drastically cut sugars & gluten, but still need CAKE! thanks=-)

M C.

Yelp
I'm keeping it 5 stars, as I still rank it among the top bakeries in the country, but a couple disappointments this time. Cranberry muffin had all of TWO cranberries in it, and I remember liking it before. Had a rather unpleasant waitress (I went twice on this trip; one was great, one not). Iced latte much too strong/sweet. Updates on specific items: still enjoy their donuts a lot (in order for this time, pink almond, blueberry cake, choc iced cream, orange iced, cinn sugar). Tried four cakes. Pink almond still the star of the show. Lemon raspberry had great quality cake but lacked fruity flavor. Chocolate not bad but wouldn't get again. Same with strawberry (had whipped icing). Cinnamon roll still great. Brownie very good for not being iced. Macaron good but no better than Aldi's lol. Chocolate chip cookie above average. Still love the sweet sourdough bread.

Amanda W.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The donuts are to die for. We come here all the time. We are so glad it is right down the street.

Laureen O.

Yelp
It was nice of you to respond to my comment but I bought my cupcake to go. It's not likely I'd get in car just to go return it. Perhaps you should send me a rain check or something. Better yet, MAKR SURE YOUR FOOD TASTE AS FRESH AND GOOD AS IT LOOKS. You have a r REPUTAION TO PROTECT!

Andrea S.

Yelp
What an outstanding bakery. I was in town visiting a friend and she insisted that we visit the bakery. I am so glad we did. I made two trips during my four day stay in the area, even smuggling some treats on the plane so I could share with my husband back home. Absolutely everything was delicious. From the lemon bars, peanut butter bar, apple fritter, to the banana pudding and the coffee! I'm hoping I can convince my friend into mailing me some goodies here soon.
