LA’s Best Iced Coffees And Cold Brews

"If there’s one single iced coffee drink in the city that we’d have every day, it would probably be the Layla Latte from VanillaBlack. The Layla is made with lavender and honey, and it’s sweet, creamy, and fragrant, without being too much of any one of those flavors. Get some Nutella espresso bread while you’re there." - brett keating

This coffee shop was okay. I got a vanilla bean latte; I wish the flavor was rich. Also, I got the Blackwood Breakfast Burrito, it was pricey. The decor is arty, it reminds me of an art gallery.

Google
I asked for light ice and got a little more than a half a cup of the latte. I paid $10 (with tip). The first time this happened I didn't say anything because I though it was a mistake, but they did it again. There's still some ice in the cup on the picture, so if you remove all ice, you get half a cup. For $10!!!! This is absolutely ridiculous. Why $10? Why not $30? I've never had this issue anywhere else. I'm definitely not going back.

Google
The girl attendance was rushing me out asking all the time if I was done with my order, not giving me enough time to decide. Then I got banana bread slice and a plain croissant, the banana bread was ok, but the croissant was under expedited, a little soggy and rubber, then I ask the girl to heat it up to make it better to eat she told me she can't heat up my croissant, and she didn't offer me to heat it up before I got this as usual on other place. And the price is super expensive, $11.50 for a banana brand slice and the same price for the croissant. And she not even asked if I was going to eat there or to go, and placed everything in the paper bag, like she wants to say goodbye don't come back. But the place has a good atmosphere and well done decorate, the coffee was delicious and the barista, a middle age guy, was fast and professional.

Google
Stopped in for coffee and breakfast. Coffee was delicious and would recommend the avocado toast and chia pudding. Great, chilled atmosphere, a perfect way to start the day. Gluten and dairy free options available. Would visit again if we are in the area.

Google
been a staple of my morning routine since moving to the neighborhood in 2019. Iove their proprietary blended "almond" milk, and while i do enjoy the recently added Rooster (ghost kitchen) Rico Suave Burrito from time to time, i do miss when they used to have their own small in-house kitchen menu, but their Avocado Toast still hits the spot! Oh, also, for the summer, i highly recommend the Sparkling Espresso (another proprietary blended espresso elixir that I haven't been able to find anywhere else). Five stars.

Google
Very pleasant atmosphere with great customer service! Kay was lovely and went out of her way to accommodate and make my stay memorable :) I had an iced matcha latte with their house milk and it was refreshingly delicious! Perfect for this hot weather. They have a poppy playlist going on and it’s just good vibes all around; love the plants! Definitely coming back here to get in the state of flow ☀️

Google
Very friendly group of people. The coffee maker lady was super welcoming and gracious. We lived the atmosphere, the message they provided and displayed on their window is truly honored and it should be implemented everywhere we go regardless of which land we are in. Thank you for a great experience, we will be back here when we visit LA next. 🍻 👏 ✌️

Google
Loved it! We stumbled across this gem and definitely will return! Service was excellent, the Lattes yummy! Atmosphere and vibe on 10!

Yelp
I live in Austin, but my brother lives down the street, so I ALWAYS make it a point to stop at Blackwood when I visit. The coffee is great, the people are super friendly, great atmosphere, and the Vegan Bodega Sandwich is my fav!

Yelp
While working in Hollywood, I stopped here for breakfast one rising on a friend's recommendation and really enjoyed it. The space was mostly clean (could use some attention to detail as there was pet hair on some of the cushions) and inviting with lounge chairs and a colorful patio. . The blonde-ish woman at the counter donned a cute white graphic t-shirt and she was smiling and friendly. She walked me through a couple of menu options I wanted. Ultimately, I order a strawberry matcha and got a chia pudding and both were light and fresh for breakfast. I love the latte art and strawberry in the matcha was the perfect sweetener. . It started to get busy in there right around 8:30 am so get there early to beat the line!

Yelp
Watering hole. For writers. What a jewel Blackwood has been in my nearly 15 years of living in the neighborhood. It's a space and place that makes LA not feel so impersonal and isolated. This place feels like a second home. Perfect space for meeting friends in the neighborhood. Not to mention a great 'think space.' We are surrounded by so many amazing and creative souls. And #blackwood feels as though it's taken over what #cheebos once was before Covid got the best of it. The entire team there of kind souls who serves up the most delicious caffeinated beverages. The coffee is the best coffee I have had in LA. Aside from the ambiance, coffee, food selection, I'm just so grateful there is an incredible space like Blackwood for so many reasons. Dogs and children stop in here and there. And there is also a little treats for the pooches! I'm sure this is why they enjoy their visit. Check out the wall of adorable pooches in the neighborhood shaped in a heart above the small service station that is always neat and tidy for guests. Definitely stop in and enjoy a flat white or any of their delicious options.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was as well. I was a little nervous because the outside is horrible. Sunset Blvd is literally disgusting. However, when I walked into this cafe I forgot where I was. The inside is clean and classy. Great place to bring your dog and grab a small breakfast and coffee.

Yelp
Good work space, plenty of street parking, around trendy cool shops and restaurants, coffee is okay perhaps it was a bad say so I will have to go back. Its a cute date spot pleanty of indoor and cute outdoor seating. There is a wind instrument store right around the corner and so is guitar center if you are dating a music enthusiast

Yelp
Very cute ! Was walking near by asked bout another spot and someone suggested I try here !! Very cute ! And reasonably priced ! I've been on a whole rose kick and the cashew almond milk from scratch is yum ... I'll be back
google avatar

Yelp
Almond croissant was amazing and I ordered the marine layer coffee also very good and strong. Just what I needed

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop. It's always very clean and artistic. The staffs always clean the area well. They drinks are very well made with thoughts and care. I love the matcha latte and cold brew. The staffs are really friendly and personable. It has the feeling of a neighborhood coffee shop where people connect in a personal level. The space is very artistic and creative. All the decors are carefull selected and presented. There is a creative energy in this space. People always come here for creative purposes. I often come here to do journaling, reading or people watching. The owner is super friendly and really cares his customers. He cares about every details in the coffee shop.

Yelp
I've been walking and driving past this place for sometime now. Finally stopped in for a late morning pick me up. Not the friendliest customer service, not at all. But sure is another LA Hollywood, $10 a cup of Joe, Cafe. I got their morning wood. It was good. I mean, I was distracted so I added an extra shot (for $3! ) and wasn't reminded that it was their 24 hour cold brew but nonetheless it was good. I'll be back to try another drink or two. Other than that, not a real stand-out cafe to recommend.

Yelp
Excellent coffee drinks, delicious food and pastries. The staff is always helpful and kind. The coffee shop is dog friendly and looks super cute. Give it a try!

Yelp
This is a lovely coffee shop with a very good, unique drink selection...although extremely expensive. The atmosphere is beautiful and on my first visit on 1/15/24 at 11am, I was greeted by a very friendly employee. I asked about the photos on the wall of all the dogs and she proceeded to tell me the cafe is very dog friendly and that I should bring my doggy in and they'll take a picture of her for the wall. I returned with my dog on 1/18/24 at 1pm and asked about the photo and was informed (this time by a different employee) that the photos are for regulars only. When I explained what I was told and that it was disappointing I just was given the same response. I said that it wasn't very friendly. I recognize this as a champagne problem, but I was so excited to have a place to go where my dog was welcomed and I went out of my way to come to this cafe. My dog is recovering from major surgery and this was one of the first times she ventured out with me since. I couldn't wait to see her welcomed warmly, as that was the tone set from the employee on my first visit. Customer service is an important reason why I choose a cafe, and this could have been handled with more kindness. If I were that employee, I would have apologized and offer for the customer to speak with the manager. A place with such a premium price on goods should also pay closer attention to its service.

Yelp
Visited the cafe as I was passing through the area and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the coffee I ordered. It was a simple whole milk iced latte but man it was tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed my drink while reading. Music taste is also on point. There's seating along both walls and a cute outdoor area. Street parking is available.
google avatar

Yelp
I really enjoy the vanilla latte here! Solid coffee and great service. There's also tables if you want to work from the coffee shop!
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
I've been trying to find the perfect vanilla latte and this is IT. Seriously... I've tried every coffee shop in the area. The coffee is smooth and rich. The baristas know what they're doing and never let the shots turn. I LOVE that they don't use store bought syrups like Torani. Everything is made in house. They also have a cool house made milk alternative option. And the vanilla?! AMAZING. I really look forward to this every morning. Not too sweet, smooth and delicious. If that wasn't enough, the decor is so cute. A good place to meet a friend or sit and work. Honestly every detail just hits for me and I can't stop recommending this place. Thank you so so so much for having such divine coffee.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Blackwood ever since it first opened. I love their drinks but was super disappointed to learn that they changed the food menu. Their menu used to be innovative and interesting but I'm sorry to say, I tried one of their new breakfast burritos, and it was bad. It tasted almost kind of burnt? Incredibly unappetizing. I'll definitely still come here for drinks, but Blackwood, I'm begging you, bring back the old menu!

Yelp
There was dog hair in my coffee... The cashier was touching a dog and then proceeded to take orders. Not sanitary at all. Unpleasant experience overall

Yelp
Just visited this place on my vacation and was greeted by a beautiful kind young lady, April. The coffee was amazing and the wonderful barista made the visit even more enjoyable. Thank you Blackwood coffee bar, you earned a new returning customer. Can't wait for my next trip!

Yelp
Cool coffee spot in town where you can grab a good cup and relax. Service is friendly and coffee is good. Very relaxed comfortable environment food for unwinding or socializing

Yelp
A coffee place in Hollywood that's open early?! Serving strong coffee?! Don't mind if I do. Blackwood Coffee Bar also has a killer Avocado Toast. Their Chocolate Croissant isn't bad either. Their Hot Latte is great. If you want something a bit sweeter, try their Vanilla Bean Latte. Blackwood has more than one location in Hollywood and has indoor seating available. Street parking is also available.

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood for work and was craving some good coffee. This place popped up and so I parked and gave it a try. There was plenty of parking in the front. Easy to locate. You feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. The decor was trendy and has a very positive vibe They have some lounge chairs and a bigget table in the back. It took me a minute to decide what I was going go order. Everything looked and sounded good. The avocado took looked delicious and something I have to come back and try. Their croissants were big and looked pretty go to. They have a variety of coffees, lattes. and other mouth watering drinks. I ordered the Lavendar Honey Latte with soy. The order was ready quickly and there was a pretty heart design in my coffee. I love the little things. The Latte was very good. I was able to taste the lavender and honey. It was soothing and relaxing. One of my favs here! Can't wait to come back and to try the avocado toast and more coffee. If you need a place to relax and just take a little break, this is your place. Everyone is friendly and genuinely happy to help their customers.
google avatar

Yelp
Some of my favorite coffee in the neighborhood. This location is a bit smaller but has a nice outside area and cozy indoors. Lavender hot latte is my go-to!
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
This isn't the kind of coffee shop where you can post up for a few hours with your laptop. They don't have wifi and there weren't any outlets (at least when I attempted to look for some). With that said, the ambiance is was pretty minimalist and quiet, so I can see how it would be a good place to get some reading done OR come in with your laptop fully charged and with your own wifi hotspot. I ordered the jasmine honey iced coffee, which was decent. It tasted a bit more like a milk tea since the espresso flavor was so faint and there was just so much milk. I would've liked it a little stronger.
google avatar

Yelp
A coffee bar should be calming, solicitous and friendly. This place is perfect on each. The opposite of one of the big names
google avatar

Da Woon C.

Yelp
Great coffee , great food~~ They make really good vanilla latte~ They make their own vanilla syrup in the house. Also should try their food too. Fresh and yummy ~

Yelp
Based off an Uber eats review. The bacon maple sandwich is delicious. I asked for the aioli on the side since I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I generally don't like aiolis, but this was really good. The morning wood, could have been better. I'm sure there was ice when it was made & foam at the top but this is how it arrived. No pecans on top as mentioned on the menu.
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Very nice customer service but I wouldn't go back. My latte was $8.25 before tip which is the most I have ever paid at any LA cafe. I was startled by the price because I didn't realize almond milk added an extra $1.25, but the worst part was that it wasn't even good. I ordered the maple pumpkin latte, maybe I should have tried their vanilla bean latte as a start.
google avatar

Evein R.

Yelp
Great customer service! Their blueberry matcha is the best. It was my first time there, I'll be back soon for more
google avatar

Alana P.

Yelp
The blueberry matcha was the best of the three, tasted similar to blueberry cereal, good sweetness level. The chai was ok, you can definitely taste the spices. Tastes like an authentic chai, definitely not a concentrate, wasn't super sweet, but the cold foam was super flavorful. The maple pumpkin latte wasn't very sweet either the coffee flavor overpowered the pumpkin and maple. Overall pretty decent place, would for sure come again for the blueberry matcha.
google avatar

Sarmen A.

Yelp
I really liked this cafe! The design was so beautiful and the coffee was very good. The staff were also super nice & polite. Didn't have a chance to check out the food menu but the blueberry matcha was the perfect combo. Will be back again!

Yelp
Beyond bad. It had been a while since my last visit. Back in the day, pre-COVID, before the explosion in the number of homeless people in our city, "Blakwood" was warm and cozy with a friendly staff, good food and wifi. It was a nice place to spend an afternoon or pop in before a walk in Runyon Canyon. Not anymore. There has obviously been a change at the top. The first thing you notice is that the menu has shrunk - dramatically. What used to be a pretty inventive list of breakfast/brunch dishes, covering all the basics, is now a a few breakfast burritos which are delivered to the restaurant in a van, the kitchen staff having been fired. I arrived shortly after the restaurant opened, a few minutes past 7 am, to be informed by a barely civil person behind the counter, that I would have to wait 30 minutes for my vegan burrito because the food is not delivered until 7.30. So I got a coffee, paid for the burrito, and waited. The bill was in the low twenties and with the $5 tip (for nothing but rudeness) this came to over $28. The oat milk latte was hot and tasty like it used to be. This turned out to be the only good thing about my experience. I took out my computer and noticed that both my computer and my iPhone needed charging. I looked around to discover that all of the outlets had been covered. I asked the lady at the counter who told me there was no longer any wifi so why did I even need an outlet (ha ha). She said there may be an uncovered one near where I was sitting and she was correct. After getting down on my knees and trying a variety of chargers, all to no avail, I realised that the outlet was not working. When I informed the lady she just shrugged. My burrito arrived and it was barely edible. I noticed that there was only two people seated - myself and one other person and then I realized something: Blackwood!'s new modus operandi is to provide minimal service, overcharge for bad food, expect a sizeable tip for nothing, and then, be-bye. I have experienced bad service. Who hasn't? But this was utter contempt for the paying customer. What's more, they don't even try to disguise it. So, I asked for my money back and got a refund saying that I would never be back again. Numerous restaurants have closed in this part of Sunset. Backwood will be next. Good riddance!
google avatar

Areen H.

Yelp
I usually pick- up to go so I can't rate the ambience or what it's like sitting/ working out of here. But I will say Blackwood is one of the best coffee shops in the area as far as quality and selection of coffee. It's barely walking distance from me, but I make the trek because ...really ain't nothing better closer. Staff is always super friendly and the coffee always leaves me wanting a second.
google avatar

Benyamin H.

Yelp
Having just sampled Blackwood Coffee Bar's 24 hour cold brew on Sunset Boulevard, I can confidently say that it is one of the best in Los Angeles county. As a fan of cold brew, I was impressed by the smoothness and obvious attention to detail that was put into making it. The flavor was unique, lacking any woody notes and delicately balancing on the edge of perfection, which can't be said for the other mainstream franchises. If you are a lover of cold brew, I cannot stress enough how necessary it is to try this particular cold brew.
google avatar

Ardalan Y.

Yelp
I've been going to Blackwood for 2 years and was very happy to have a high quality cafe within walking distance. The coffee is good with lots of variety but the recent changes to the food menu are extremely disappointing: they used to have several types of breakfast sandwiches and toasts, and even a low-carb/keto protein bowl option. Now they only serve underwhelming breakfast burritos; I've tried both the vegan and non-vegan version and they both suck. Very bland, and they're obviously microwaved because of how scolding hot the inside is; I almost burnt my tongue the first time! I don't know why they changed their food menu but it's a big disappointment; their food was what made this cafe stand out in the area. If I wanted a microwaved bland burrito, I might as well go to Starbucks and pay less. Also, the walls of the patio used to be covered with beautiful succulents but for some reason they took them down and now it's just painted. The patio definitely lost its charm.

Yelp
My friends and I would frequently this place regularly on Friday mornings. Sometime there could be about 10 of us. We were meeting ever every Friday for months. We all finally got sick of the staff acting like you were inconveniencing them by ordering coffee. (Mind you we are all gay men that tip. We are all also extremely polite) you walk in and they turn there back immediately. Just RUDE. The coffee is expensive. The food menu changed from a pretty decent breakfast to soggy empanadas that aren't even made in store. I think my final straw was the $9 ice tea from the fridge. We have since stopped spending so many fridays at this location because of the staff specifically. Save your money and go to Bohemia a couple doors down. They're much kinder, cheaper, and the food is better.
google avatar

Drew H.

Yelp
This charming neighborhood workstation and coffee house is run by some really lovely folks. The coffee is expensive, but it's worth it. The croissants are particularly good
google avatar

Moni H.

Yelp
This place has no good options for breakfast, the photos you see are outdated and no longer available. If you chose this place because you thought the food looks good don't waste your time! Quite misleading I should say!
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this lovely local cafe with everything so solid! From the drinks, really enjoyed their signatures - Golden Milk, Morning Wood - food also solid - bought some to-go to take back to the Bay of their Almond Crossaint, another with strawberry jam, cookies, etc. So happy to have found and would recommend to all to give it a go!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, because it's cute, has so many great reviews, and it's close to my apartment. THE DRINKS / FOOD There were a few coffees that were appealing to me. A guy I met yesterday at a shop a few blocks down recommended the Vanilla Bean Latte. I opted for the Latin Cold Brew instead though, because the cashew horchata sounded interested. Also, it's dairy-free, so I didn't have to do any substitutes. The cold brew is SO good. It's not overly sweet like what you might expect to get elsewhere and it's super smooth. I didn't try any food, because they don't have an dairy-free options? There was a vegan cookie in the display, but I wanted something a bit more substantial. Which leads me to... THE SERVICE 3 stars... maybe 2. Is the staff here trained to greet customers? I inquired about dairy-free food options. The associate either didn't know the menu (maybe he's new) or they really don't have any options that are dairy-free/vegan. In 2020? Okay... After leaving, I went back online to look at the menu and it's look like there were actually 2 or 3 food items I could have ordered... but that would have required some assistance from the associate at the register. He glanced at the menu and quickly said there weren't any dairy-free options. THE VERDICT With tip, my bill was just $6, which is great. But I was torn about my rating on this one... Really good coffee. Cute space, including the outdoor patio. The service needs improvement though.

Syvannah M.

Yelp
Banana bread and espresso. The only way to start your day! Great service, and even better coffee. Can't complain. The seating area was also perfect to enjoy your coffee. You have the choice of a covered patio or inside seating. Very comfortable.
google avatar

Anthony U.

Yelp
Food is Meh. Stick with the pastry's, the breakfast burrito's are microwaved. The Coffee is good, love that they use quality ingredients and offer alternatives. I do wish they offered larger sizes for cold drinks. The service is friendly. The ambiance is clean and offers a nice trendy place to meet up with someone for a quick chat.
google avatar

Nate A.

Yelp
Just an update to say this place is still KILLING it imo Hooked my avocado toast up with lox this morning and it was sooo good. Hit the spot. Thanks y'all!
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
Waited outside this morning until 7:20 am until I finally gave up. There was a line of 6 people who all left. The woman behind me said that they never open on time. I live a block away and have come a few times, but I won't be back. Either they don't care or the manager is terrible. Either way it screwed up my morning.
google avatar

DeShawne C.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop... had the avocado toast and it was insanely good! I've been trying to recreate it but I can't ... I would go back just for the toast
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Tasty coffee and great food. An actual menu of choices and well made items. It's old news, but this was one of the best avocado toasts we have ever had. Gluttons almost went back for a road toast. The setup was nice with a little relaxation of covid rules and the staff was very friendly. We even came back later for another coffee...it was that good. A great find that will be part of our LA routine!.

Yelp
Incredible coffee, mediocre food - Blackwood is my neighborhood go to coffee cafe. I typically order a black coffee and it is QUALITY. Delicious and very evident that is is fresh brewed. I have also ordered the sparkling espresso - INSANE. The hint of orange in the beverage is so refreshing and perfect for a sunny LA day. I recently added a shot of espresso to the drink and it was still refreshing but definitely more bitter / more of an acquired taste! Their beverage options are great and I would absolutely recommend it to grab your favorite coffee/ tea drink... ... the food is extremely disappointing. Specifically, the petit salmon toast. I have ordered the white cheddar scramble here and it was tasty but nothing to write home about. The salmon toast, on the other hand, was an upset. The toast came burnt and almost inedible, i have attached pictures. The sesame on the toast was burnt too and gave the meal a bitter taste, the edges were so crispy it was almost like a hard cracker. The salmon was fresh, but didn't taste overwhelmingly delicious, tasted like something I could have gotten at Trader Joes. There was a cream cheese like spread on the toast topped with salmon and a lemon slice. The lemon slice was pretty thick, and not super easy to squeeze because of the way it was cut. I was very disappointed with this meal and won't be trying their food options again. 4 stars here because it is a cute spot and I will be back for their coffee drinks!

Yelp
This is such a cool coffee shop and one of my favorites. Before you walk through the door you are greeted by a large sign that says "We Welcome ALL...We Stand With You, You Are Safe Here", and as you walk through the door, you are greeted by a smiling barista and lots of positive vibes. The drinks are always on point, my favorites being the Vanilla Bean latte and the Lavender Honey latte (I have yet to try the Cardamom latte), always with creamy oat milk. I love that they don't over do it on the flavor and you can actually appreciate the espresso. The space is small but nice with a mix of seating arrangements to suit your preference. That being said, it can be difficult getting a seat. On a recent visit I wanted to enjoy my espresso in the shop but had no choice but to order to go since there was no place to sit (sigh, maybe next time). *Ideally this would be a no WiFi zone given it's more of a relax and enjoy your coffee kind of space.**

Yelp
Visiting LA and found this place looking for coffee. So glad I decided to stop by. I ordered a cold brew with oat milk and a breakfast sandwich. Both were amazingly delicious and I'll probably go back again before I leave. A bit pricier than I'm used to but It was really good. The vibe overall was super cute and chill. I sat around for a little while and definitely enjoyed the visit. Definitely give this place a try if you're nearby.

Yelp
This is not a friendly neighborhood coffee shop! If you're a West Hollywood native and you're looking for a comfy vibe to take your laptop and get some work done. DO NOT COME HERE! They don't have free WiFi and the staff is rude. I think they might get a lot of mixed crowds but that's no excuse not to make guest feel welcome. Save your money and go somewhere more local.
google avatar

Yelp
Have found myself hanging out at Blackwood Coffee a couple of times waiting for my son to make his way through the local music shops. Vanilla latte is smooth, not too sweet and nicely foamed on top. Worth the stop.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! You'll likely find me here on Sundays now. No joke....I'll be the bum in sweats and sandals with my coffee and reading material, scattered over 2 tables LOL. I've had Blackwood Coffee Bar bookmarked for almost a year, but haven't made time to swing by. I had a meeting and found the perfect opportunity to drop in. Huge fan of the décor, the space, location, and fantastic cold brew. There's a nice selection of pastries as well. I didn't have the opportunity to try one, but there's always next time. While the space does look small from the outside, they have plenty of seating inside; along with outdoor seating. Street Metered parking in the area. However, no parking enforcement on Sundays. That why I'll be here on Sundays. Sidenote: They've already gone strawless, and have cute sippy cup type lids.
