On the Grid : Blighty Coffee

"No speak Americano? Luckily, these guys do. They’ll even paint you like one of those French girls...well, not really, but they do paint unique rosettes into cups of what can only be described as liquid joy. Also, there was this one time that Ed the Barista had this epic moustache. It doesn’t affect the coffee whatsoever but we don’t like to let him forget it. I mean we did take photos of it and put it all over Instagram. Anyway, now that’s over, back to the coffee. It’s pretty damn good. Try it for yourself. It’ll help warm you up from the inside and get over the loss of the moustache. They also do wicked food, which you can either enjoy whilst sat admiring the wartime paraphernalia or from the comfort of the replica Air Raid Shelter in their back garden. Oh and they’re licensed, so you can get boozed up too. It’s all rather spiffing, isn’t it old boy!" - The Barefaced Movement

London
Blighty - a very British cafe

Rather pleasant for passing the time of day . The immensely handsome front of house waiter was pleasant and efficient, indeed his smile drew me into the cafe in the first place. Waitresses pleasant . The manager/owner ( also handsome) was a bit stressy which affects ambience, but when he smiled he changed the feel of the cafe and brought delight into the room ... It has a Bohemian, thrown together feel that works for relaxed and distinctive. Fascinating mixture of people in and out. The coffee was fine. The eggs on toast was fine too, though could have done without the extra sea salt for me personally. But nice enough. London prices of course! I think the cakes in the window could do with glass covers . I didn't have, but on a hot day, I am sure they must be dried out. Overall a very pleasant visit and if I was local I'd probably pop in again. And seems locals do just that.

This was easily the best breakfast sandwich I've had in a long time. Avocado and egg on brioche - absolutely ace. I especially like the hit or citrus in the avocado, so fresh! Also such lovely people and a welcoming space.

Google
Excellent and friendly service and good food & coffee. Popped in to grab a coffee just behind another customer who placed a large order. As I was in a bit of a rush I asked Cam (the owner how long a food order would be) because of the large order previously and he said as it was only me he would jump my order in front. My delicious bacon and egg roll arrived within 5mins and the coffee was nice and smooth. I really appreciated the effort Cam made to serve me and of course not to lose a sale. All the best with the new venture and thanks for taking the time to chat with me whilst I waited.

It was our first time visiting this cafe and it had such a great atmosphere--quirky decor, loads of seating options, and the outdoor area was perfect for enjoying the beginning of spring. Dori loved getting to sniff around the outdoor garden before getting comfortable and settling down for a nap. We didn't get to take photos of the food (as we were hungry lol), but the food and coffees were lovely and filling. They didn't have cheese for my butty, but they offered to replace it with something of my choice. Dori very much appreciated the extra hash browns! Kam and his team were such a pleasure--very welcoming and kind. Whether you're catching up with friends, getting some work done, or taking you pup on a day out, we think Blighty would be a great space for all of the above. Would highly recommend and we're sure that we'll be back.

Google
Brightly is a conveniently located brunch spot, just an 8-minute walk from Finsbury Park Station. The space is bright and welcoming, with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The food, however, was just okay. While the menu offers a decent range of brunch options, the flavors and execution were underwhelming—not bad, but nothing memorable. If you’re in the area and need a quick, convenient brunch, Brightly is a fine choice. For a standout meal, though, you might want to explore other options nearby.

Google
Nice interior where you can have a coffee, eat a cake and something else. A big cup full of goodness. The latte is tasty and well prepared. A great alternative to big franchises. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 7.

Google
A great little spot. Decent choice of food and drink options. Catering to all food types (meat, veggie and Halal option). There is an upstairs and outside seating options so plenty of space. Reasonable priced for the area. Sourdough bread tasted amazing. Loved the little cockney rhyming words on the munu for some of the items too, added to the feel of the cafe. Would recommend if in the area.

Yelp
Great looking cafe in the middle of the Finsbury park area! Very nice coffee and the orange juice is fresh from their machine! The atmosphere is very vibey with nice music! Accommodating a big variety of breakfast and then design looks nice. Great food too!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The vibe is spot on and makes for a perfect place to have a coffee, eat a meal, and get some work done. During the day you can find an assortment of signature meals common in different commonwealth countries, and at night this place turns into an Indian restaurant. Throughout the day, you can find space to be productive. There's an upstairs "workspace" and outdoor patio with seating. The ingredients found here are all sourced from common wealth countries. Also the wifi is fast and reliable. Don't forget the stamp card to get your complimentary coffee after a number of purchases.

Wonderful English Breakfast, quick service, high speed internet for work.

Yelp
Wowsers Finsbury Park really is getting a little bit more trendy. Dare I say a tad hipster. Blighty cafe opposite Islington Uni is primed to cater to students looking for good coffee but also hype the visual references of what Britain was built on from the war to modern day. Winston Churchill, war displayed tables to artisan coffee and sourdour. What a (cool) mix. I do love the name Blighty. Always have always will so glad someone has finally used it and used it to full effect. I got a cappuccino which was good. Not the best I've ever had but it was good. I also got the 'winston'. An epic full fry up. It has it all with sourdour and homemade beans in the side. Loved those. All the meat of grey quality and a very filling plate. Service started ok, but gradually it only got better and better. The smiles and conversation finally came; well it was 10am on a wet Tuesday morning. I was a bit gutted the free bubble and squeak that I had seen in a mess tin from blog reviews was not given free before the meal as I wanted to check out but TBH I doubt I could have finished. For £9.50 the Winston is such great value that it will honestly fill you up till dinner. It did with me! Great going folks. Nice to see a creative hub upstairs with People working away on laptops. The downstairs better go eat your food though less seats. A really interesting space that has more character than your usual new cafe or hipster brew place.

Yelp
One of my favourite places in London for tasty brunch and great coffee! Few minutes walk from Finsbury Park station, this cosy coffee shop serves a great selection of breakfast/brunch dishes as well fresh bakery/pastry delicacies. Spacious garden area in the back is just the ideal place to read your Sunday newspapers on a sunny weekend!

Yelp
Solid food, cozy and eclectic atmosphere and a pleasant manager (although the brunette server today with short, crimped hair could have been less brusque). Ditto to the bearded guy at the till; a smile wouldn't hurt. I'm also dinking a star because the skinny turmeric chai latte I got, although large and colorful, was pretty tasteless. However, The Clementine- The Full Veg English- was delicious, especially the mushrooms and two veg patties that accompanied the order. Very savoury and incredibly filling without being too overstuffed. The meal also came very quickly after we ordered. I also love you can bring small dogs inside; I petted a Boston terrier, beagle and chihuahua all within a half hour :) The tables upstairs are pretty squished together so be aware.

Yelp
My favourite coffee in London (and that's saying a lot). I don't know what they do so differently, but these are definitely the best lattes I've ever had, especially soya. All of the staff are super friendly and easy going as well. A great way to start the morning. There's also a huge upstairs and back garden area which most people don't know about!

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! I've come three times and never left unhappy (okay, except that one time when they weren't serving breakfast any longer - but it was about 3pm). The food is INCREDIBLE! Do yourself a favour and order the Winston benedict - you get three different kinds of eggs benedict and they are ALL amazing. I mean, really really really amazing. Plus, they have iced coffee. That's important for an expat like me. Even better? Dog friendly. Come for the food, stay for the ceramics class, workspace, or get'er done atmosphere. I love this place!

Yelp
I love neighborhoods with a lot of cafes. There's something so cozy about seeing your neighbors relaxing, or caffeinating, or reading the paper, or whatever it is they choose to do in a cafe. So I was excited when I saw that Blackstock Rd was getting a new cafe. Blighty Coffee is still figuring out what it is, exactly, but I already hope that it sticks around. I want to give this place five stars, eventually. On Saturdays, they were serving BBQ pulled pork and slaw for a little while. The food always looks fantastic, though I haven't tried it, yet. They serve Monmouth coffee, which makes it my new go-to neighborhood coffee stop. The employees are all very nice. The space is AMAZING and much bigger than it looks from the outside. There's a back garden with a ping pong table, and plenty of space to socialize or to be alone with a book. I hope the neighborhood embraces this place as fully as it deserves. The reason it's only getting four stars at the moment is because I ordered an iced coffee on a hot day and they were out of ice. Which is an odd thing to not have on hand, even if you are a coffee shop. No worries, though - I ordered an americano instead and it was still delicious.

Yelp
Best fry up I've had in London out of many strong contenders from the Wolseley to E pellici. So happy to have this neighbourhood cafe in our area. English breakfast was plentiful and good value, coffee was excellent and staff were friendly. Great atmosphere on the Sunday we visited. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Great place on Blackstock Rd. I have been here a couple of times and always enjoyed myself! They offer plenty of seating and do have a garden area as well which is amazing! Very cozy place with a great atmosphere! The pastries and cakes are absolutely delicious. I´m in love with the lemon drizzle cake!! This place is perfect for enjoying a drink outside in the summer, or breakfast with your friends! I can only recommend it!

Yelp
Not to judge a place on the sartorial choices of its staff members but I headed past the other day and the guy serving was wearing suspenders, a bowtie and a flat cap. I think that about sums up Blighty Coffee's vibe - it really is like a piece of East London dumped onto Blackstock Road. If you're okay with that kind of thing then you'll like this place. Due to torrential downpours we didn't check out the garden but the main seating area is cozy and nice. We went for brunch and as I'm incapable of not ordering a full English at brunch-time that's what I plumped for - and it was worth it. Well cooked and nice ingredients. The free bubble and squeak was a nice surprise and a nice addition. They also offer money off if you show up dressed in twenties garb. Honestly, it's probably worth heading back just to see if anyone takes them up on that.

Yelp
Breakfast was fantastic, great iced coffee, and a super cute interior! A small place but has a couple different floors and different types of seating. Would definitely go back again!

Yelp
Nice place, concept and food, A bit disorganised in the beginning, let see how it goes. More reviews to follow when time permits!

Yelp
Only dropping a single star for rather "odd" service and that the adjacent table had leftover plates for ages. Other than that, this place is a great little hipster cafe in the middle of a chicken shop street. Not sure there *is* anything else around Finsbury Park, alas.

Yelp
Love this place! Blighty Coffee has a relaxed vibe, yummy food and comfy seats. Good place if your looking for somewhere with Wi-Fi, I came here a lot when I needed to do some work and I found it easy to concentrate without bother.

Yelp
Best breakfast in the area. The garden is great when its warm and the indoor areas are cosy. Gets really busy on a Sunday so be ready to wait. They do Bangers and Mash some evenings which are worth a trip for.

Yelp
I have been many times since discovering it some months back and this review is based on all of these experiences. My boyfriend and I often come here for brunch, it's got a really nice vibe inside and the decor is very cool lot's of historical stuff and WW2 facts and posters and letters and pictures which the history boffin in me loves. They look quite small from the outside but actually have a big area upstairs and a big seating area, which I have yet to take advantage of, the seats upstairs are nice but since they serve food most of the day it would be good if they had some slightly bigger tables up there, it always feels a little like playing food Jenga when your food arrives. I have never had a single complaint with the food, I am vegetarian so it's really nice to have a veggie full english that doesn't have a sorry looking veggie sausage on it. Last time they served avocado with it and I don't think it's ever really been the same twice and although we missed the free bubble and squeak (delicious FYI) this weekend the fresh rocket based side salad we received was really welcome. The reason it gets 4 stars is because I do think their service needs some improvement, a few months back (we took a little hiatus from Blighty for this reason) we waited for an hour for a food, constantly being told that it was coming with no real explanation or apology. I understand they have the relaxed, hipster coffee shop vibe and although the staff are friendly and seem nice, I always get the feeling at least one person doesn't really know what they are doing.

Yelp
A very new cafe and collaborative workspace. The coffee here is Monmouth, the barista's skills are equally good. My flat white was delicious. Food is basic: baguettes and croissants; they do do BBQ in the summer, which is great. The best spot for coffee in the Finsbury Park area this side of Seven Sisters Road. A quality and comfortable community cafe.

Yelp
Great place with a great vibe. Massive upstairs lounge (and back garden!) which is decorated in a quirky junk store via history way. The flat white was nice, nutty coffee flavor. Most importantly not burnt.

Yelp
A gorgeous little cafe with huge potential. Great outdoor area, funky decor, decent food - the only thing letting it down is the customer service. They seem miserable to be working there. Been there 5 times and have never received a smile.
