Why did we choose Blind Pig? a) they were one of the only spots that night already featuring a live performer (in this instance, a solo guitar player/singer); and 2) their AC was on and very inviting.
We sat at the bar and chatted up the very distracted bartender. He took the time to chat with us about beer - mostly to give my friend an overview of the types they had, and what he'd suggest for her tastes. We then got into a friendly debate about Stouts and IPAs, which I'm sure took him by surprise. We ordered a couple of drinks and opened a tab; I handed over my card to keep that tab open.
The guitarist was good, even though he was playing to a mostly empty bar. My friend and I did appreciate his talent, and that he covered some of the songs that were the soundtrack to our lives. At one point, he had a friend - and I think, former band mate - join him at the mic for a song or two (that's when I remembered to take pictures.)
We were there for maybe 90 minutes, trying out many of their local brews and enjoying the music. We left when the crowd started to turn a bit more...young...and when we realized we were hungry. The bartender we'd interacted with had left by then, so I called over the girl who'd come in for that shift, and asked her to close out my tab. She gave me the bill, had me sign, then turned around and walked to the other side of the bar.
I flagged her again, telling her she still had my card. She nodded, went to the other side of the bar, and stood there. I had to get up and ask her again to give my card back to me. Not. Cool.
