The Best Restaurants and Bars in The Woodlands | Eater Houston

"For sushi in the Woodlands, head to Bloofin. The restaurant, which also has a location in Spring, offers a variety of fish-fueled dishes like its creamy King Crab Chawanmushi, a hama chili with Fuji apple and mandarin, as well as sashimi, hand rolls, and maki. One of its top sellers includes the Hughes Landing, an sushi roll teeming with King crab, eel, avocado, tuna, scallops, uni, and salmon roe. The menu goes beyond the raw, though, with sake mussels drenched in a Thai red curry sauce, a 72-hour slow-cooked teriyaki wagyu skewer, lamb chops served with foie gras, and oyster mushrooms given the full robata treatment. Drinks are largely formed to pair with what you eat, so expect dozens of sakes and a few white wines to choose from." - Laura L. Green

If you have a passion for sushi, this is a must-visit destination! After our first delightful experience, we were so impressed that we couldn't resist returning within just five days. The menu is a treasure trove of flavors, featuring everything from expertly crafted nigiri to melt-in-your-mouth sashimi and creative rolls that tantalize the taste buds. We also indulged in the sake flight, which, though served at a chilly temperature, was absolutely delightful and complemented our meal perfectly. The service was exceptional; the staff went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcome and well taken care of. The location offers a stunning view, and we were fortunate enough to secure a table by the window, allowing us to enjoy the scenery as we dined. Plus, parking was a breeze, with valet service available for every restaurant in the area. It was an all-around wonderful experience that we can’t wait to repeat!

After hearing glowing recommendations from friends for quite some time, I finally had the chance to visit Bloofin today. The ambiance, with a serene lake view outside, set the perfect backdrop for an exquisite culinary experience. Indulging in a variety of sushi dishes, from fresh fishes to high-quality wagyu, was an absolute treat for the taste buds. The outstanding service further elevated our evening, with our server Annalena being exceptionally sweet and friendly throughout our meal. Although we were already full from the delicious sushi, we simply couldn't resist trying the Japanese mochi for dessert and I must say, it was truly a delightful ending to a fantastic meal. I highly recommend visiting Bloofin for a dining experience that combines delicious food, a beautiful setting, and excellent service.

By the water and in a nice area, there's a parking garage nearby and some but not a lot of street parking. It was quiet but they had a nice outdoor patio area, we ended up sitting inside. There only seemed to be a handful of servers and our server became busy as we sat there. Some of our drinks were forgotten a couple times and we had to try and flag the server down. Everything else was good and the drinks were good aside from the inconsistent service which wasn't too bad otherwise. They were still friendly and tried to be attentive. We started with a glass of the Mily Way Sake and an Agave Raindrop. Both were very good and I definitely recommend it. We ordered a variety of items but started with the truffle salmon. Loved how the truffle paired with the salmon overall and it was very good. We did come during happy hour so had this for the happy hour price. We ordered the Uni King Crab Spoon and the Bafun Uni Sashimi with a quail egg on top. I loved both and loved how buttery the uni was. I also ordered the a5 uni caviar handroll which was very good. Our friends ordered the (Snow Crab) Shaggy Dog Roll, the Jalapeno Roll and the Robusta Maki. All were pretty good but I think I liked the Robusta Maki the best but all were pretty good. The Crudo Hirame was recommended but I think it was either too salty or acidic but I wasn't the biggest fan. I didn't know that it also came in the bloofin special that my husband ordered so I would have refrained from ordering it if I had known. The bloofin special came with a sea bass sulmono soup which was amazing, I would recommend ordering that separately. The Hughes Landing Maki was pretty good, i definitely enjoyed that. Overall, the food was pretty good and some misses for me. I'm not sure if it's all worth the price but overall very good. I do recommend the agave raindrop and the n/naka cocktails. Definitely worth coming for happy hour though!

Google
Absolutely the best sushi experience! The fish was incredibly fresh, and every piece we tried was packed with flavor. You can really tell they prioritize quality. The prices were also surprisingly reasonable for how high-end everything tasted. Service was outstanding from the moment we walked in. Our waitress greeted us within two minutes and had our drinks on the way right after. Appetizers arrived quickly and were followed by beautifully presented sushi that didn’t disappoint. Bloofin Sushi has easily earned a top spot on our list of sushi restaurants in The Woodlands. Can’t recommend it enough—definitely worth a visit!

This place is the real deal Holyfield. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The fact that they serve real fresh wasabi was a hint of the quality you can expect here. The star dish for me was the lobster and crab ramen... amazing! Service and ambience are also on point. Definitely recommend and want to visit again.

Fresh fish and rolls, delicious cocktails as well. Very extensive menu - I want to come back and try more items! Loved their chawanmushi, shrimp dumplings melted in your mouth, rainbow rolls!, amd naruto roll (cucumber on the outside). The roll with the crispy potatoes was delicious, also loved the lion king roll. The mango sorbet and coffee gelato were stand out in the dessert dept.

For our 10th Wedding Anniversary, we booked a special Kiwami experience at Blōōfin Sushi, and it was absolutely incredible! 🍣🍶 Kiwami is a Japanese word meaning "ultimate" and it's basically a chef-curated journey where the chef hand-picked and prepped our entire dinner plan beforehand. They brought out each dish one by one, explaining every single pairing, along with different sakes and even the history of the dish itself. Every bite was an explosion of flavor! The entire experience was three hours and truly made our anniversary feel extra special! Joanna was outstanding! Plus the owner went above and beyond making our night extremely special. The atmosphere was very romantic and the decor/finishings were all top notch. Loved the booth with the window view of the lake! Thank you so much Blōōfin! We will 100% be back again!

BLOOFIN, located quietly within Hughes Landing’s restaurant row, offers an exceptional sushi experience in The Woodlands. We trusted our waiter, Henry, with our order after sharing our preferences — and every dish he selected was flawless. His expertise, combined with the quality and freshness of the sushi, made for an outstanding dining experience. BLOOFIN is truly a must-visit for sushi lovers.

Yelp
Calling this a sushi place is a misnomer. These guys are Japanese fine dining. The menu has so much more to offer. The tempura mushrooms were the star for me. The seafood was mega fresh. Service was quick, friendly, and professional. It made for a wonderful date night. We can't wait to go back for the tasting prefixe menu. Only ding is it's pretty expensive. This makes it a special occasion place for me.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and ordered a number of dishes to share. Seaweed Salad - Tasty and was nicely chilled Hama Chili - Light and refreshing Nigiri Selection - Super fresh Amazing Tuna Maki - Good but wasn't anything special Great service and ambiance, would definitely come back and they have a great happy hour menu as well!

Yelp
Hm, interesting place. Reviews look good and the pics look but....service was slow at first, weird cuz there was hardly anyone there. Once we got served the service was constant. The food was good but the menu seemed to lack substance. Idk, it was weird. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't jump to go back. You can try it out and get your own vibe of the place and see for yourself. I may be off base here but I wasn't feeling this place.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I loved everything we ordered! The service was fantastic. Our server took excellent care of us all night and made thoughtful recommendations that we genuinely appreciated. The pricing here is also very reasonable for the quality of food. We enjoyed rolls and dishes featuring black truffle, foie gras, and uni, plus cocktails, and the total came out to about $70 per person. For the quality and variety, this is one of the better sushi spots I've visited in The Woodlands. Our favorite dishes of the night had to be the Tuna Foie and the Hughes Landing roll. The Tuna Foie was incredibly supple and rich, while the Hughes Landing offered an exciting combination of flavors that delighted us with every bite. An honorable mention goes to the Hama Chili--the addition of Fuji apple was innovative and elevated the dish beautifully. The cocktails also hit the mark and were a great complement to the meal. The ambiance added to the experience--small, cozy, and modern, it made for an intimate yet upscale setting that matched the food and service. Overall, an amazing experience with fantastic food, excellent service, and great value. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here for lunch today and everything was delicious. Ordered a couple of sushi rolls, they were fresh and tasty. I also ordered a bento box with chicken and steak. It came with the option of fried rice or regular rice. Also an option for soup or salad. I got the salad with a ginger dressing so good. And so much more (see my photo) even came with a little dessert. Great service too! My favorite most flavorful thing was the spicy garlic edamame. Normally you go places and the edamame is just ok but this place made sure to pack it with flavor and a kick. Will defn be back here again!

Yelp
We decided to use it as a venue for a small group birthday celebration. To our surprise, we were assigned a private room for 6 people and it was beautifully decorated. The food was delicious, no really other way to describe it but fresh and flavorful, great combination of ingredients for Maki and delicious sashimi. Everything was really mouth watering. It has become a favorite Japanese cuisine restaurant. Thank you Henry for your wonderful service with memorable attention to detail!

Yelp
Arguably the best sushi in The Woodlands. We have nothing but exceptional & personal service. Great space overlooking the waterway. Try everything!!

Yelp
My best friend and I were looking for a place to eat before heading out to a concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, and this place was literally only like a 6-minute drive away. The inside of the restaurant is very aesthetic and clean. Service was great because everyone was extremely friendly, from the hostess greeting us, to our actual server. I liked that they offer a happy hour menu on the weekends, which seems to be rare to find in most restaurants. The quality of the sushi here was pretty good. I usually judge the quality of a nigiri based on how the sushi rice tastes and the texture, and it was definitely perfect here. I ordered the "sushi b" set, and my friend got the "bloofin special." The sushi b set is good if you're indecisive (like me), and just want nigiri. It's a good sampler. It also includes hokkaido scallop and a5 wagyu. My only complaint was that I wished the a5 wagyu was a bit more tender; it was very chewy when I ate it. The bloofin special looks super aesthetic, and offers a wide variety of samplers of different dishes. We also got the miso cod, which was SO delicious and buttery to perfection. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone. It also had a bit of a crunch from the way it was cooked/caramelized, which I liked. It's a good sharable dish too. My friend and I got it to share, and it was split evenly down the middle for us. The miso soup and side salad that came with each of our 3 dishes were good too!

Yelp
The hope was this place that now occupies where The Blue Fish used to be (The Blue Fish didn't survive Covid) would be as good or better. The only similarity was the pricing which was at the higher end. The quality was not great. My wife and I shared several different rolls as well as some sashimi. It was very mediocre for the price. We only had sake and wine and our check was over $200. I don't mind paying for great food but this was far from great. Service was good. Ambiance was decent but I liked it more when it was a bit more open when it was The Blue Fish.

Carroll M.

Yelp
I am, unfortunately, gluten sensitive. The staff in this restaurant went out of their way to make sure, I was able to have a nice meal, despite my food limitations. I appreciate that, so much. Great food, and a friendly and helpful staff, a nice water view, too.
google avatar

Yelp
Run, don't walk, to try this place! Always the freshest sushi, with elevated options plus your favorite traditional (but deliciou roll classics. A classic setting, great for business lunch, brunch, girls (or guys) night out or date night, this restaurant checks all the boxes. Feeling adventurous? Sit at the sushi bar and ask for chef's choice on the sushi or sashimi.

Yelp
So freakin good! The edemame was delicious as an appetizer! Tried several rolls and all were phenomenal. Our server was very sweet and kind!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves. Talk about fantastic and wonderful experience! I was the perfect date night with my hubby. The sake flight was delicious. The aged tuna nigiri, the aged toro nigiri, barracuda to start. Then moved on the miso cod that was cooked to perfection. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful experience with Andrew as our bartender and his expertise on the menu and suggestions were on point.

Yelp
My wife and I had date night here tonight and it was a great experience. The best sushi we have had since moving to the area a couple years ago. We'll definitely be back!

Lexi S.

Yelp
Bloofin Sushi & Bar If you're craving sushi, I highly suggest Bloofin! We tried a few different rolls & (as you can see) loved all of them! The edimame is arguably the best we've had out at a restaurant. The wait staff was amazing & manager extremely friendly. Something that caught my attention was in the woman restroom. Not only was it immaculatly clean, but they have free feminine products! *it's the little things!!!! Definitely our new fav sushi spot!
google avatar

Yelp
I've only had great experiences here! The best sushi I've had in Houston (including downtown Houston). We came for the soft opening and were so happy that we came back again and it was just as amazing. We learned that some of their sushi is highest quality fresh flown from Japan. Apparently only 3 sushi restaurants in Houston have this quality of fish. The service here is so amazing. It was our anniversary and they got us flowers as well which was above and beyond. We got a lot of different things, including a Endo roll which had pear in it. I was skeptical of it being too sweet, but it wasn't at all and was so delicious. We got the Houston, Endo, toro special, and red moon. Also tried dry aged nigiri and sashimi. All great but we loved the peppercorn tuna and dry aged yellow tail. Everything was great! Try their beef skewers, edamame, or gyoza for apps too. It is right on the water so beautiful restaurant!

Michael M.

Yelp
Regularly go to the Blōōfin spring location because it's great. This woodlands location is elevated. Every aspect is top notch! The only conflict of the night was the communication with the server. It was hard for her to understand the follow up orders of multiple duplicate items. However it's acceptable because we don't mind Asian servers in Asian restaurants... that promotes authenticity and faith. A bit pricey, but well worth the cost when you experience how greatly prepared each dish is. The owner even makes regular visits to make sure you have a memorable experience, and curious in what they can do to improve future service. Top 3 experience in all of my Houston sushi spots now.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Great food. Excellent service. It's on the lake so eating outside on the patio is nice. This place is pricey. It's not worth the up charge to me, but it's a great meal if you're not concerned with price. There's a $50 foie gras roll on the menu. Do what you will with that.
google avatar

Geoff

Yelp
Pretty great place in many ways. Beautiful build-out, outstanding service, and an incredibly ambitious menu. Many sushi/sashimi items that I've never heard of before and prepared in some interesting and slightly exotic ways, like dry aging the fish. Non-sushi items like chawanmushi and ramen were not so successful, both bland and monochromatic, needed some spice and some energy. The sushi itself, nigiri, etc. is very good but not outstanding - there's something muting the flavors we've become accustomed to at places like Kata Robata and WO.
google avatar

Leonard H.

Yelp
Imo this is the best sushi restaurant in the woodlands. I used to drive about 30 minutes to their location in spring. I was so happy when they opened this location that's only 15 minutes from me and it's better. I still have places in Houston that I go for sushi on weekends, but that's an hour drive. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are all an upgrade from the spring location in my opinion. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is always fresh and delicious. The drinks are great (try their g&t with yuzu). The dining room is very comfortable and some tables have views of the waterway.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
After dining at the original grand Parkway location for several years, I'm really glad they (finally) opened in The Woodlands. The quality of their sushi is easily the best in the area. The menu is slightly different at this location with some things missing and some things added. One of the best pieces I had was the barracuda nigiri. The service was excellent as usual and we had a nice visit with the manager at our table. The decor at the restaurant is well done and it has nice lighting.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Had a quick lunch here to try some of the menu and overall we enjoyed our meal. The sushi was good but not the best of what we've had. However the service was amazing and the manager and staff were very accommodating. I'll try this location for dinner to give it another shot to wow.
google avatar

Gustavo F.

Yelp
Best sushi in town, I highly recommend it. The restaurant is well designed, with a lot of Japanese details, they serve nice craft beers from Japan. Lunch specials during the week are a great deal. Highly recomend the tuna sushi (nigiri) so good!

Sydney B.

Yelp
Service was amazing. Our waiter was kind and polite. The food was good. We ordered several of the waiters recommendations, and it did not disappoint!
google avatar

Valeriya B.

Yelp
Everything is very tasty and fish is fresh . Melting in your mouth. So this are 5 stars. Wish they put more rice to nigiri but it's my personal preference I guess :) also wish tuna sashimi had more pieces . Be prepared to spend 200+$ if you don't want to went home hungry
google avatar

Paige K.

Yelp
I dined in this evening and enjoyed my experience. Our server was very attentive throughout the meal. We ordered the fatty tuna, fatty salmon, and yellowtail. The portions of sashimi were thick and tasted fresh. We also ordered the Hama chili cold tasting, shaggy dog & lion king rolls. All three were yummy! I personally feel like the woodlands is limited to good ambiance sushi restaurants. This would be a great date night spot. I liked that the booths were lined up giving a sense of privacy. If you're looking for a new sushi spot I recommend!
google avatar

Virlene G.

Yelp
Great service, good food and a very chill bar. Fun date night or cool friend meetup vibe. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Amazing place to eat. Back porch is great if the weather permits. Highly recommend. We will be coming back

Yelp
The weirdest thing. We ordered drinks. 4 "The Yeast You Can Do" (Nikka Whiskey, ginger and lime). We got 4 "n/Naka" drinks (Haiku vodka, passionfruit, riesling, lemongrass). Called for the manager, who also TOOK our drink order. He INSISTED that we got the Nikka Whiskey drink. We were like, "WTF?" Kind of dumbfounded and kept the drinks because my parents said they were fine. Manager even said that the menu is wrong...they forgot to put passionfruit on the menu under the drink. It was a compound lie. My brother said, "He lied." I said, "I know." The rest of the meal anytime he walked by we called him the lying liar. Should we have pushed it? Sure. But we were, literally, like "This guy just flat out lied." The food wasn't all that the reviews have made it seem. Our waitress was wonderful and she double checked our bill after the same manager was having issues keeping items straight on tabs. He was...very odd.
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
The service and food are beyond incredible! It's a big menu and you can get lost but the staff here listens to your wants and so far has not steered us wrong! Great food and excellent service!!!! We WILL be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I think Tosin's review is "mid". Who even knows what that means? We actually ate there and didn't get takeout to post a "mid" review. Interior is very nice, as is the service. The only sushi place in the area to get the high end sushi from the Japanese fish markets. You could see behind the bar had the dry aged fish hanging. Top notch sake menu as well as by the glass and bottle. Still in the soft opening phase, so the service and ordering were a bit scattered. Bathrooms are clean, women's had tampons and Bobby pins which was a nice detail. Music was light/easy listening and not dorky. Lighting was nice but a little bright by the bar. Definitely the sushi place that the woodlands needs. Not ur mom n pop California rolls here, they offer speciality rolls and seafood. They also offer "real wasabi" and a really great "house version", both different, refreshing, and pleasant in their own way. Had a great conversation with Nick behind the sushi bar. They have "seafood" dumplings which were pretty good. My wife has a shellfish sensitivity and didn't find out until after her first taste of the dumplings. This place has a patio, bar, table and booth seating to fit everyone's needs. Really cool place, and will love to see this place grow and develop into something spectacular. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
The absolute best sushi! Reminds me of Uchi in Houston! So good!!!!! The truffle everything is our favorite. Our new date spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Ok. It was 30 minutes before closing and they had a full staff going. The spicy edamame is amazing followed by the Waygu sushi maki (roll). Absolutely delicious. My sisho fashioned was great too. Service was impeccable and attentive. Must go

Charlie M.

Yelp
What a great variety of sushi and sashimi. Service was outstanding and the general manager was very helpful. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Yelp
2nd review in past couple of days, placed a to-go order for the family, it was unanimous, they used words like fresh to describe the rolls.fish, again another great experience, thank you to the staff at Bloofin!
google avatar

Nina T.

Yelp
As always. We eat at the bar. First time here. Food was amazing. And Jaros and Mamika provided excellent customer serve. First class sushi! Atmosphere very classy while being down to earth. Great Saturday afternoon experience.

Erica E.

Yelp
We have now been to this restaurant 4 times and it's been nothing short of exceptional every time. We used to drive down to Houston to have sushi and are now so happy to have this restaurant so close. Great food, great service, great vibe and extremely clean!

Tom W.

Yelp
Lovely spot with excellent food, service and atmosphere, which is not obvious when viewing from the dark and fairly nondescript exterior. Far nicer than the Blue Fin restaurant that it replaced. Maybe not something you normally think about, but if you like to sit in a booth, they have the best around. Cool little bar area too. Great happy hour.
google avatar

Kayleigh J.

Yelp
Excellent!! GO! You will not regret it! Still in the soft opening phase, but we had the best sushi ever at their other location in Spring, and the new location happily, has the same high standards and incredible offerings. The sashimi curation was so good, they even cure some of the varieties which concentrates the oils and gives the sashimi an amazing flavor. The fish is flown in from a famous market in Tokyo, they use NO FAKE CRAB anywhere in their kitchen or menu, and the wasabi is real! So, yeah, this is the best sushi we have ever had, and now it's much closer to us, in a beautiful location on the water. How another reviewer can call this place "mid" is actually offensive. Hate to say it but if that's what you think, this is kind of a "pearls before swine" situation. Go eat pink ginger and fake wasabi somewhere else. Leave the Woodlands alone! We NEED a high quality sushi restaurant here!

John D.

Yelp
Went to try the sushi, was very yummy. However they gave me the wrong order and the manager tried to convince me to eat what they gave me , not sure how an establishment in hughes landing is trying to hustle people... I tried the other location and the prices are better.
