Blu Mar was a big hopeful for the evening, but fell short for a lot of reasons, and I'll explain.
This is summertime in the Hamptons, and every restaurant is packed to the brim, and Blu Mar was no exception, but we were able to get a last minute reservation because another restaurant we went to didn't have the vibe I was looking for.
One of the stars goes to the vibe, when we got there it was super chill, not too crazy packed, low key, relaxing jazz music, beautiful cool night outside, and exactly what I was hoping for, and they had ample parking when I arrived, 7:30pm Saturday night, great start.
The menu is eclectic and different, they had Mediterranean dishes but also a big selection of Pasta, so we decided, after talking with the waitress, that we would do an app, Zucchini Chips and 2 Pasta dishes.
The waitress herself at first was very composed, and then it got stupid busy like 30-40 minutes after we sat, and she fell off on service. Hard to find, not as attentive, and the staff seemed very disorganized.
The food:
Zuchini Chips (Average, Not Special) C
Pasta Dishes (A) were very good, specifically the sauce though. They had only like 6 or 7 pieces of pasta in there, and for $30 that's pretty skimpy. The sauce was amazing in both, had to ask for bread to mop it.
The worst part, and why it lost so many stars, are the drinks.
This bartender must have been the worst bartender on Long Island, the drinks were garbage, terribly mixed, not good to drink, and at $18 a pop, not forgivable.
This place needs a new guy, or someone to teach this person how to flip drinks. Also took a long time to get one of the drinks, we were done with the meal by the time the second one arrived.
2 pastas, 3 drinks were $150 after tip. Very pricey, not worth it, great early vibe, but when this place gets busy, service falls off a cliff.
Don't recommend. Go elsewhere.
