Where to Drink Margs and Do Good Around NYC | Eater

"An undeniably special dining experience in New York state, this Newburgh restaurant overlooks the Hudson River and serves up a modern, upscale take on seafood. Accompany your shellfish platters, sushi, and raw dishes with a winning Astral Blanco combination—crushed watermelon, fresh lime, and agave, garnished with a Tajín rim." - Rebecca Strassberg

We visited Blue Pointe Café on Sunday around 7 PM without a reservation and were seated outside by the bar with an amazing view. The service was absolutely top-notch! We tried the lobster mac and cheese and the Blue Point sushi roll - both were super delicious. The crispy calamari was great as well, though the Rockefeller oysters were my least favorite. For dessert, we had the amaretto crème brûlée, which was good. Overall, fantastic atmosphere, great food, and excellent service. Highly recommend!

I booked reservations to celebrate my husband's 53rd birthday , and I am so glad I chose Blu Pointe restaurant, especially having never been there before . First I want to say the drink I had was excellent ! I wish I could tell you what it was but I don't remember the name and it is not on the menu online. The appetizers were amazing! We ordered the Maryland crab cake, the pigs on a wire, the Colossal shrimp cocktail and I believe the Hiroshi roll (see photos attached), but I could be mistaken. Either way we did order one of the sushi appetizers and it was fantastic. I ordered the South African lobster tails as an entree, and the accompaniments, the spinach and the potatoes, were a disappointment. The spinach was entirely too salty and the potatoes were soaking wet from the spinach. Crushed Yukon Golds should be crispy i/m/o, and they weren't. My husband ordered the Alaskan king crab legs, but, unfortunately, the server came back and told us they were sold out.😫 He wound up ordering the scallops and really enjoyed them. The creamed corn that they plated them on was extremely sweet and he did not enjoy it at all. At the end of the meal they brought over a dish of vanilla ice cream with Happy Birthday written in raspberry sauce with a candle! It, along with the birthday card they gave him when we were seated, was a really nice touch! The service was outstanding. If I could give them a thousand stars I would! Seriously, we have dined many places and the service at Blu Pointe is entirely on another level. I even mentioned to my husband what amazing service from young servers, so whoever trained them, kudos to them!

Google
Blu Pointe is a first class experience. The process of booking your reservation all the way through arrival and actually enjoying your meal, is a breeze. The staff is very friendly, the views are great, and the food is phenomenal. Recommend the steak for dinner! Oysters are very good too. Whether you sit at the bar for happy hour ($1 oysters from 4-7) or do a sit-down dinner, you can’t go wrong.

My wife and I were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary and I wanted to surprise her with a different place and landed upon Blu Pointe seeing it on Instagram, so I made an 8pm reservation over the phone the morning of. I asked to be seated by the window but the hostess said it's against restaurant policy to hold specific areas of the restaurant, so I said it was fine. We arrived and checked in only to wait about 15 minutes to be seated either because the one hostess wasn't seating people quick enough or they were short because they were on the tail end of the night. Once we got to our table, our waiter was professional and courteous and welcomed us as it was our first time. He asked what type of water we wanted. I said Tap; as he returns with the water, I noticed the glassware was dirty and had smudge marks on the glass. I stopped him and showed him. He was a little taken back and got us new glasses. He took our drink and appetizer order which came to our table rather quick and might I add was really tasty. He took our food orders and shortly came back to say that he was being pulled from the floor and we had a new waitress and gave us the name. We finished our appetizers and first set of drinks, order another round and were waiting and waiting for a while. The time was 9:30pm and was wondering where our food was, so we flagged a bus boy down and asked him for our new waitress who comes over to ask if we need to place our order. We told her we did already with the first waiter and we've been waiting for a while, she said she would go check on it; we mentioned we didn't get our second set of drinks and said she'd check on those too. I was livid but not trying to cause a scene because it was late and my mood was already soured for waiting this long. We finally got our food which again tasted great but waiting for it changed my mind. Once we finished, we ordered dessert and eventually got the bill. I was going to ask her if she could have taken the dessert off the bill but I think either she was new or clearly she dropped the ball when she picked up our table, so I didn't want to frazzle her, my wife said to let it go. I do want to add that a family of 4 were seated after us, they got their dinner entrees before us and was leaving while we were eating which didn't make sense to me. In conclusion, the food and drinks were great, service not so much and I hope management can correct this so I can give me 5 stars across the board.

Nothing signifies the start of the Summer season more than dining on the Newburgh Waterfront. Come to Blu Pointe for amazing Happy Hour specials. The sliders are amazing, a must try. As a local Realtor who travels around the Hudson Valley this is my go to place when I need to refuel with a view.

Great food, amazing service, and stunning Hudson River views! The lobster lollipops were crispy and flavorful, the steak was cooked to perfection, and the lamb chops were tender and well seasoned. Big shoutout to Skye for the warm welcome! Service was excellent, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a must visit!

The service was excellent. We had a Riverview, which was stunning. It was not too noisy. Delicious bread.

This is a must place to visit. Great view, bring your family and friends to a varied brunch and afterwards you can take a boat ride along the Hudson or just walk. This is one of our favorite places to come on Sunday!!

Yelp
So I recently took my parents to Blu Pointe to celebrate their 52nd anniversary. I made a reservation for 5 including my 2 children. Now, my mother is a vegan. It's very difficult for her to go out to eat unless it's a vegan place. However, the view here was beautiful and when I called I asked if they could accommodate her dietary needs. They said they would be able to. The restaurant is beautiful and lively. If you're coming here for dinner, make sure you get a reservation. Even with one we waited about 10 minutes. That's ok but we would still be waiting for a table without a reservation. For the food. It was excellent. For an appetizer, we got crab cakes, French Onion soup which contains beef broth, two of their vegan dishes which were the Beet Salad and Eggplant Caponata. All were very good though my mother said the Eggplant was a bit salty. For main courses, they made my mother a pasta dish with roasted vegetables. She said it was very good. My father had the Steak Au Poivre, I had the fettuccini with shrimp, my daughter had the Lobster Mac and Cheese, I also ordered the Blu Point Sushi Roll, and my son ordered off their kids menu and had chicken tenders and French fries. It was all really good. For dessert, my mother just had coffee with almond milk. I had the sticky toffee cake, my father had the crème brûlée, my daughter the cheese cake and my son chocolate ice cream. Again, all really good though the ice cream scoop was really really tiny. We were not charged for it but I'm not sure if it's because they gave a "kids" size. The service was excellent. The waitstaff was attentive, polite, and kind. It was some of the best service I had. The place was very very busy so I was surprised how efficiently and gracefully the waitstaff worked. I can say on this day the service was excellent. Would I recommend this restaurant? Absolutely. Especially if it's for a date or a special occasion. But I'm going to warn everyone to please make reservations or you'll probably be waiting a while for a table.

Yelp
We went to blu pointe for dinner on sunday evening, the place was beautiful (hostess was very sweet and friendly). We requested to sit outside and the views were beautiful. Drinks (very good, $15-19) old fashion (butter) was my fav. My wife kept it simple with a sour apple martini (they forgot the sour). Appetizer was amazing (tuna tartar), large portion (def feeds 2-3ppl). Steaks cooked to perfection (no complaints). Only downside was our waiter. No where to be found. The adjoining tables at one point said "can someone else pls help us". Maybe it was one of those days but for the price you are paying, I expected more. The runners were very helpful and picked up the slack when you requested anything. Overall 3 1/2 only bc of the service, food was amazing

Yelp
So my husband and I are here last night. It was pouring rain and they had a prom in the area as well as a few birthday parties so it was packed. However, we were able to be seated. Too bad we couldn't sit outside because the view of the Hudson is absolutely breathtaking. Nonetheless we ordered fried calamari with hot peppers and it was delicious. I ordered seared scallops which were cooked too well done, corn which was more like polenta and I don't like polenta, and grilled zucchini and squash which was decent. I wouldn't order it again though. My husband ordered steak which he said was tough, garlic mashed potatoes which were good, and creamed spinach. My stomach was very disappointed at my entree. Next time I am going back to my crab cake appetizer for my entree. This way I can order the crème brûlée which is to die for.

Yelp
Went to lunch. Food was excellent . Highly recommend. the French Dip with truffle fries. Service was top notch. Waitress was attentive and friendly. Shout out to Leo , bus man, who when I asked for "black coffee and fill it to the top " actually listen to me . First time ever that any restaurant employee in Orange County ever listen to me. High five Leo

Yelp
Love Blu Pointe for the location and the nice decor. Food is quite good, but they scrimp on some things (the meat in the slider appetizer is smaller than a meatball). One major complaint: the music is so freaking loud (and not a good selection). What is the DEAL? Outside, inside - doesn't matter, loud everywhere. Even the staff we spoke with agreed it was too loud, but everyone always replied with "That's how the owner wants it." I'm thinking this owner must be about 25, single, and clueless about what makes a good restaurant scene, and out of touch with his clientele, as we weren't the only patrons annoyed by the noise. We couldn't hear our waitress or the sommelier, and they couldn't hear us - had to bend way down to us at the table to communicate. So weird, and it kind of ruined the vibe. As much as I love this place, I've recently found other nice waterfront options and may have to part ways with Blu Pointe over the noise factor. Most of the stars in this rating are for the location and decor.

Yelp
Blue Pointe is one of my favorite places for a special celebration. Their birthday cards is one of my favorite hospitality touches. Whether you're celebrating or just looking for a nice dining experience, they won't disappoint. The service and food are a perfect matched for the beautiful dining experience. Best brunch in the area too! Awesome variety and the buffet is nicely set and serviced well.

Yelp
Beautifully set on the Hudson down on the waterfront of Newburgh. The restaurant provides a nice environment for an evening out with someone special. This was my first time visiting many have raved about the brunch and happy hour so we were curious about their dinner service. We ordered some drinks an appetizer and meal. The price was extremely more than we expected to pay for the quality of what we received. The King crab legs were unseasoned and tasted as though they were freezer burned. The grilled sea bass was tender and flaky but the sides left much to be wanted as it was laid on a bed of ramen. Lobster dip appetizer was delicious creamy with nice chunks of meat. Both drinks were good but it seemed I paid more for the presentation of them as the fog over the Hudson is presented in a case with an actual rolling fog as they open it to present to your table. Novel idea but wouldn't order again. The staff was lovely great attention to our table and very helpful. Typically travel to shadows on the Hudson which I found out is the same owner so was taken back by the price discrepancy between the two restaurants. We will give happy hour a shot but most likely will not be returning for dinner.

Yelp
Blu Pointe is a gem on the Newburgh waterfront. While the indoor ambiance is cozy and upscale, the outdoor dining area truly steals the show with its breathtaking views of the Hudson River, the surrounding mountains, and the Beacon Bridge. It's the perfect setting whether you're meeting a friend, client, or enjoying a date--day or night. The inside bar is elegant and well-stocked, and the whole place gives off a grown folks vibe without feeling too formal. You can still dress casual and feel right at home. The food is consistently delicious, whether you're just grabbing a few appetizers with a glass of wine or settling in for a full meal. The service is always friendly and professional, which makes the experience even better. Great spot for good conversation, good drinks, and even better views. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Blu Point is one of our favorite restaurants. It is satisfying in every aspect, service, scenery, and of course, the food is exceptional.

Yelp
Blu Pointe is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley -- it's been our go-to for celebration dinners for the past decade. Service here is always impeccable, and the views of the Hudson, Mt. Beacon/Fishkill Ridge, and the Newburgh-Beacon-Bridge can't be beat. Their menu does rotate, but they do have a few legacy items that stick around, including their "regular" seafood selection, which we've always enjoyed. A few oysters on the half shell or a whole tower--both (or any option in between) are excellent choices for seafood lovers. I'm a huge fan of their espresso martini, while husband loves their cappuccinos, which (usually) are served with a cute (and practical) rock sugar stirrer. The Blu Pointe roll is another menu mainstay that I'd recommend, and the lobster mac and cheese never disappoints - it's always a hit with our boys. Tips: - If you plan on dining here during a holiday week (so the big ones + things like Mother's Day, for example), make your reservations early. They do have online reservations, but I've had better luck calling. - For the best views, ask for a table on the terrace.

Yelp
Let's start with the food, lobster Mac and cheese is a 8.5 and my beers were ice cold, My female bartender was spot on and engaging with all customers. As for the other guys behind the bar. No comment. My issue are the filth of the place. The paint falling off the ceiling while you're sitting at the bar. Don't look up. The floors were not cleaned from the night before because under all the bar chairs yucky, idea please wipe the bar seat off also. I seen food on the floor and everyone who worked at the restaurant stepped on it or over it. The manager at least 40 times. I actually had to ask him to finally clean it up. Two tables at the bar has crap on them for 26 minutes after someone left and another 25 minutes before it was wiped down. My opinion. Nobody takes pride in their work..

Yelp
Went there this past weekend with family. Service was excellent. The place was extremely busy. Location is perfect (of course it is, it's right on the river ;-). I thought my dinner was good (Halibut special). The menu is pricey so watch out. Two folks ordered creme brulee and they remarked that Shadows is better (I think they both have same owners). Almost everyone clearned their plate, just a few 'to go' boxes. I've been there before when it was under different ownership....place is much more upscale now. Most everyone raved about the various appetizers

Yelp
My husband made reservations here for my birthday and it did not disappoint. Blu Pointe is located right on the Newburgh Waterfront. It's a fine dining and intimate experience, perfect for a special occasion or date night. They have an outdoor bar and patio for a nice casual dinner and drink or a few different rooms in the dining area. They seated us in a room with a beautiful panoramic view of the Hudson River. The service was impressive. Our waiter made some wonderful recommendations based on our dietary restrictions. They brought us some incredible gluten free bread that was fresh from the oven with a black salt butter that was delicious and complimented the bread well. Based on recommendations we ordered for drinks a skinny margarita and a Charred Citrus; for our appetizer we ordered the lobster escargot and their Brussels sprouts. We were also informed that the lobster escargot will be added to the daily menu soon due to the high requests for it. For our entrees I ordered the Sea Scallops with a sub of asparagus for the creamed corn; my husband ordered the branzino and subbed spinach for the potatoes, our daughter had a sirloin steak and her boyfriend had the blackened swordfish. All of the dishes were delicious. The tomato jam over the sea scallops was just the right combination of spices to complement the sea scallops. We all finished our meals. We didn't have dessert as my daughter had a carrot cake waiting at home, and our waiter informed us that we could have brought it and had them bring it out and serve to us. We said we would remember that for next year. We will definitely be back to enjoy Blu Pointe again.

Yelp
Wow went to Happy Hour with my tribe, had fresh oysters on the half shell. Really great!

Yelp
The food, the service, and the atmosphere at Blu Pointe were all excellent. We dined on the patio and as luck would have it, we had a beautiful unseasonably warm November evening, so the wall of windows overlooking the Hudson were open. The photo included was taken from our table. The service was attentive and professional. And the food was delicious. We enjoyed the cheese plate as an appetizer. I had a cod puttanesca special, and my husband had the swordfish entree. We enjoyed glasses of a French Picpoul which was among several white wines available by the glass. We were really glad we came here while visiting the area for the weekend. If you plan to visit here on a weekend night, know that the restaurant and bar appear popular. We made a reservation about two weeks ahead. Please note that you may need to pay to park in the metered lots across the street, as their adjacent parking lot is small and shared with another restaurant. The cost was nominal and the pay stations accept credit cards. We had no trouble finding a spot at 5:30 on a Friday.

Yelp
Happy Hour offering Blue point oysters $1 each. But they are not Blue point oysters. They are Eastern or Atlantic Oysters that are half the size . Manager said Anthony head chef orders them. This has been going on since end of June 2025. They always used to have them . Not now! ........
google avatar

Adrianne T.

Yelp
This is a very elegant restaurant right on the river . I think if we were given a better table we would have opted to stay . We ordered a glass of wine , both were lovely . The bread on the table was absolutely delicious . For an appetizer we ordered the angry lobster lollipops. It came with 3 , for the price I was hoping for 4 . They were a little well done but tasty .

Maria L.

Yelp
One of the worst experiences in the past couple of months. Food is 2 out 10. Low grade ingredients, unbalanced dishes, desserts are the worst. Service was good. The view is the best.

Yelp
I had such high hopes for this restaurant after seeing photos of guests seated along the water and reading about the fresh seafood, I'm just not sure if we came on an off day and ordered the wrong thing. Pros: The appetizers are HUGE. We ordered two appetizers without the knowledge that the serving size could easily be a meal, so when our plates came we were in disbelief. We even mentioned to the waiter "We wish you warned us that the appetizers were this big, because this was way too much for two people." The raw oysters were also fresh, clean & a good size. Cons: While the raw seafood was fresh, we are unsure if the cooked seafood dishes were previously frozen. We had ordered the king crab legs as a main course - something we hadn't tried in the past. The amount of crab seemed decent for the price, but since we had never had this we had no way of knowing if it was as fresh as it should have been. The crab was rubbery and dry (a common indicator that seafood is overcooked), had no flavor (concerning since crab should be slightly sweet) and had a cleaning chemical like smell to it. Some legs were better than others, but overall don't know if this was a normal experience or if the crab just wasn't good quality. The calamari appetizer was meh, the squid itself felt overcooked and rubbery as well as the sauce being completely overpowering with a pickled flavor. The service was great and always felt as if we were taken care of with constant water refills, immediate serving of complimentary bread, and different staff asking us if we were doing okay throughout the meal. Disappointing meal, but would definitely try again and order some of the more popular offerings to see if the experience is better!

Yelp
Food is always great and the views are amazing. There is a wonderful atmosphere. Great for celebrating any occasion or just to stop by and hang out for drinks

Yelp
Beautiful location on the Hudson with amazing food! We went to celebrate my wife's birthday in August 2023. It's a large restaurant with lots of tables inside but it was a cool enough night for us to dine on the outdoor deck right on the water. Cocktails to start, and they made very good margaritas. We started with the burrata, super fresh and tasty. For our entrees, we chose South African lobster tails (with Yukon Gold potato, spinach & garlic herb butter) and New York strip steak (cooked perfectly, medium rare as requested). The tails were delicious and fresh; the steak was melt-in-your-mouth tender. We followed with the NY cheesecake, and it came out with Happy Birthday written in raspberry sauce. Service, food and views of the river were sublime and we'd love to return next time we travel upstate. Thank you, Blu Pointe, for helping make her birthday special!

Christine B.

Yelp
Party of eight. In my opinion the Filet mignon overcooked for two guests. Neither finished their steak. One commented that it was like a dry overcooked pot roast. While another guest's filet mignon was raw and had to be sent back. Iceberg lettuce had spicy sauces and could not be eaten. Napoleon was more like a cannoli. Waitress brought bread without bread plates. Service was slow and requests had to be repeated. Bill over $700. Food not worth the price. Beautiful setting does not make up for the quality of cooking and lack if service.

Yelp
I've enjoyed happy hour hopping the waterfront with friends, and Blu Pointe is one of the spots we tried. They have a great white wine (basic I know, I don't remember exactly which one), amazing bread, and the oysters are pretty good. Second only to Roosevelt on Thursday evenings. I'm not a big oyster person but they looked fresh and my friends enjoyed them. We sat outside and it was lovely; warm and sunny, and my favorite, clean. I will be returning next season.

Karla M.

Yelp
Excellent service, food, ambiance. I will give 10 stars. Tuna was beyond and Salmon.

Rhoda M.

Yelp
Go for the view. The space and the view are wonderful. We were 6, and the consensus was that the food was only okay. The oysters were fine but too many shell fragments, and the entrees were expensive and nothing special. The exception was the cold lobster which everyone agreed was excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance & food were exemplary. I went to the Sunday brunch and the price was perfect! Reasonably priced for a brunch and the service was quality.

Yelp
Waterfront spot that took reservations which is key because this is place get crowded quick and for good reason. Patio is first come serve but they also have a terrace and an inside which is really cool. The starter bread was very fresh with rosemary and salted butter they provided was fresh and served warm which is huge for us when talking about good restaurants. We ordered some mezcal cocktail that was delicious. For the first round then not so much the second time around think the huge crowd had something to do with that. Happy hour even on the weekend was a hit Ordered delicious 8 pieces sushi roll the blue pointe it's called was delicious with blue point oysters and eggplant carbonata and seared scallops. Left us very satisfied. Only thing was they didn't let us for got the 6 minutes we orders our oysters so instead of paying a $1 each we paid $3 and we got a dozen. Otherwise a good time and we will be back for brunch which I hear is a huge hit also.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Outstanding dining experience, perfect in every way. And this is not just in comparison to the appalling one we had just had at a fancy restaurant in Philadelphia, which we were hesitant not to repeat. From start to finish this place delivered. It hadn't even been on my research list, but should have been. I saw it in the book at our inn (Cromwell Manor) of dining recommendations. I lost count of how many different people stopped by our table to take care of us: from our original waiter (Steve), to a different person who took and delivered our drinks, to other servers who brought the bread and refilled our water. Someone who looked like an owner was walking around making sure everything was taken care of, and all the staff was wonderful and seemed happy to be working there. We were not able to eat outside because of the weather, but the windows appeared to open to the water. I will also note this is the first time a request has been honored when I entered it into the reservation notes (romantic table by the water). The incredible food started with complimentary focaccia with rosemary, crunchy and chewy served with a pot of butter with delicious black salt. Next we tried the unique Lobstercargot which was divine. The wine list was endless, beautifully displayed around the bar. My husband enjoyed a drink special with cherries. Since it was a dreary day I decided to try something called "Fog on the Hudson". Imagine my delight when it came out covered, unveiling smoke! The drink itself was enormous and one of the smoothest I've had. Everything was spectacular, including the entrees. My husband loved the sea scallops with garlic mashed potatoes, and my sole francese was delicious. Somehow they were magically able to make the bed of potatoes under the filet hot enough to keep my fish warm until the last bite was gone. Even the bathrooms were lovely! Plenty of parking. Obviously I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and treat your loved ones to this special place. Highest recommendations from New Hampshire. xoxo

Yelp
Great restaurant with a high bar and beautiful lake view, food are delicious with good service

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their food. However, I don't think that the lollipops are worth the price. If you order the wedge salad, you'll get enough for the entire meal. Great toffee cake! The main room was very loud when we walked through it to leave. If you're looking for a more conversational vibe, sit in the outer room.

Yelp
Enjoyed a quiet lunch the other day at Blu Pointe. The food was great, as usual. The calamari in San marzano tomato sauce and aioli was a 10/10. I ordered the grilled chicken BLT which was also delicious. My lunch date had the pork tacos which were probably a 8/10 because the shell wasn't as hard as she'd like. But the meat was cooked and seasoned well. The service was great as always!

Gary S.

Yelp
Went for brunch, good as always But they were under staffed. Tables needed to be cleaned as we were seated and were still not cleaned when we left. And people still waiting to be seated.

Yelp
We had an enjoyable dinner at Blu Pointe. The food was yummy and the service was very good. The iceberg wedge could be a meal with how large it is and all the items that are in it. Also, the cider donut bread pudding is easily shared by 2 or more people....its huge! Drinks were great...I had an old fashioned that was outstanding. They know what they are doing. Didn't understand the review that said the bread wasn't good...it was great!! The views of the river are amazing. Nice that they have free parking. We had a really nice time and definitely worth the trip!

Yelp
Took my Mom there for dinner the food, service and the ambiance was amazing. Want to thank Jason(waiter)for making our experience a wonderful one.

Yelp
A beautiful classy restaurant by the Hudson River in the Newburgh waterfront. It is well-known if you live In downstate NY, northern NJ that Hudson Valley has some great wineries and restaurants. It was my first time stopping by Newburgh one Thursday early evening and I wanted to try a restaurant there in town. My esthetician recommended to me Blu Pointe and it was a beautiful place. The passion fruit white sangria, oysters and the beef sliders were all so fantastic. The view of the Hudson River is unbeatably peaceful in a soft baby blue pink sunset glow. A great place for happy hour. A great place for a romantic dinner or an elegant peaceful relaxing meal with friends and family. I met too lovely sisters, Mary and Theresa who were sitting next to me at the bar who knew everything about the restaurant. It turned out one has been a mega restaurateur who owns lots of the waterfront properties in the Hudson Valley region. I had such a great pleasure listening to the history and stories from them and they told me that the restaurant also serves up an awesome Sunday brunch which definitely I'll return to try. Awesome!

Yelp
I went there with my family last Thanksgiving. Enjoyed it and wanted to give it a try on a regular day. So we went a few days ago. Two of us. Seated out back. Lovely day. Rowan took our drink orders. Santiago was our server and was very smooth and accommodating. Entire tab for the two of us was about $333. I put the bill on my card and I handed Santiago a $100 tip in cash. I don't usually leave 30%-plus tips but he was good, meal was good, and we had a nice time. Two days later I checked my card online and...I had a $400 charge from Blu Point. Someone there added a $67 tip on my card in addition to the 100 cash tip I handed Santiago. This is very unsavory behavior, bordering on criminal. It is not ethical-or legal-to write in the tip you wish you had been left on a customer's statement. That is for the customer to decide. And to remind: we were a party of two not 10 or 8 or 6 or 4. Clearly someone on staff was double dipping. I contacted Blue Point on social media with a photo of my receipt and I left a voicemail at the restaurant and I called again after they opened and no one answered the phone. I was all ready to do a chargeback with my bank when I called Blu Point again. This time I got Allie the manager on duty. After confirming my receipt, she refunded me rapidly but had little to say regarding how this happened aside from the fact that it was more to blame on the server than on the restaurant because "the server goes over his or her tips with the manager every day at the end of their shift." She really implied that Santiago was to blame and seemed to not understand that Blu Pointe was to blame for Santiago. Anyway, I wasn't going to belabor the issue: I got my stolen $67 back and I just will not go back there again. Their non-apology apology sucked--they took zero accountability--and I have absolutely no faith that something like this would not happen there again. I suggest anyone that does go keep their receipt copy and check their credit card statements carefully to make sure they correspond.

Yelp
This is one of my go-to places in my home town. Classy. Elegant. Comfortable bougie vibe. Happy hour 4-7. Sit inside in the lounge during the Christmas season for the best wintertime vibes. Sit outside on the gorgeous patio during the nice weather- right on the Hudson's River. You will feel like you're on vacation, even if you live 10 minutes away as I do. My favorite river-side hang out.

Yelp
I had been to Blu Pointe many times before on business and they never disappointed. For sure, it is by far the best place to dine in the Newburgh area. Their lounge and bar area offers a great space to catch a few drinks before dinner. The main dining area is secluded from the bar area which makes a perfect ambiance to have a quiet romantic dinner; and the views from the dinning room of the Newburgh Bridge and the Hudson River are a great bonus. Whether having fish or steaks, and ordering from the raw bar, the food has been on "pointe"

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, great views of the Hudson River, however the appetizer calamari was sitting in the sauce, mixed with fried pickles and fried red bell peppers. You had to dig around to find the calamari. We ordered the seafood tower. Which was over priced ($225.00) In the seafood tower the raw tuna is sitting in some sauce, which tasted horrible. The oysters were so small like the size of a dime or nickel. The scallops were shredded like cheese curds. The colossal shrimp were huge and delicious. Could've had a little more lobster on it for the price. The butter dipping sauce had wine in it was awful. We just couldn't eat it and then the tomato cocktail sauce was bad. we had to ask for melted butter. Nice place but be careful what you order.

Yelp
I recently went to Bluepoint to celebrate my birthday January 10. I received the card once we were seated unfortunately I was unable to read it. The handwriting was so bad I was server. Francisco was not good. We had a long wait time for him to even attend to the table, the person that was assisting him with clearing dishes, bagged up some food for us, and all the sauces, and all the other garnishment was not added, and she provided us with a broken lid and stated that she didn't see that when she packed it up because she gave our food to someone else to do it to make matters worse when four other tables were sang happy birthday by the waiter and staff they did not provide me with that joy for my birthday when I have been there so many times in the past Francisco is the worse

Yelp
Reposting as my original review removed by Yelp for a description i included, therefore, description omitted, here was orig review. As an update, Blu Pointe has reached out & offered a voucher to make it right, this original review will be updated once voucher is used & I can review the experience: _________________________________ Orig review: I went to Blu Pointe for a birthday lunch. The minute I approached the Front Desk, the lady behind desk, the hostess, was unfriendly, unsmiling, unpleasant the minute I approached. She walked me to their main lunch area by the water (only 1 section was open). All tables by the water were taken, she sat me at an inner table, there was a back section with seats by water, I asked if I could sit there - she said "Ok" in an unpleasant, rude voice with an attitude. She had such an attitude, I then asked "Is that ok?", she again answered with her head looking straight not looking at me ,"I guess so" as in "I guess it has to be ok". When I sat down, I said "It's my birthday today", she said only a minuscule amount more pleasant & friendly - "Well, if it's your birthday, I guess it has to be ok". The waiter and busser were dolls - lovely & nice. She then came back and handed me a card - again unsmiling, unpleasant, unfriendly & said something I can't recall, maybe "Thank you for choosing Blu Pointe to share ur day" but again in an unfriendly, rude, almost angry way. She just dropped it on the table in a somewhat hard way. I politely and in a friendly way said "Thank you darling" to her. The meal itself, except for the opening focaccia bread & butter which were absolutely delicious, was singularly unexceptional. I ordered a hot pot of mussels & chorizo in a garlic cream sauce - mussels tasted standard, the sauce was only pooled at bottom & utterly tasteless - no flavor, the chorizo equally completely flavorless and hard. I ordered a side of garlic mashed potato - also completely flavorless (I barely finished it). I asked the busser for the manager to speak about the hostess, he came hurriedly over mumbling several things like some woman said you wanted to speak to me; as I explained he kind of completely kept talking while I was talking shaking his head saying, "That's strange, that doesn't sound like her", "she's usually not like that, that's why she's in this position". He kind of hurriedly spoke, mumbled & when I started going into detail about her rude, pointedly unfriendly behavior, he just kept saying "Ok, ok" as if "Enough, I get it, I'll talk to her". He said he would speak to her about it after the shift and said sorry if that "soured my experience" on my b'day. Nothing was offered like perhaps dessert on the house or anything to "make it right". Also, after I sat in the back section, a white gentleman with what looked like his son, sat in front of me; immediately the waiter came over & opened up the windows near his seat, then mine to have open view of the water. I asked why that hadn't been done when I was seated (I am an Asian person of color), he said it wasn't him, it was the hostess who told him, well we might as open up the section now, when the gentlemen came in. The minute I sat down, the section should have been considered "open" in one sense & the window should have been opened or at least I should have been asked if I preferred that. I may come back to B. Pointe for dinner, a prvs dinner experience was fine, I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER come back to Blu Pointe for a birthday meal, sorry Blu Pointe, I ripped ur thank you B'day card up & threw it away before I reached home b/c it was given to me with such anger, unpleasant dislike & almost hatred. For this experience, if I could give negative 1 stars, I would.

Yelp
An impromptu visit after a Hudson River boat tour to Blu pointe was well worth it. During a surprise birthday trip to New York, where my husband booked a weekend filled with activities, including the Kevin Hart comedy show "Acting my Age" eventually brought us to experience great food and amazing customer service that was a warm wrap up to the last night of my surprise birthday weekend trip. The duck, the state, the Blu pointe oysters, and the cucumber gin drink were to die for. Did I mention the bread- had to take some to go with me. Lol. Our primary server Chris was charismatic and attentive while with Jada who stepped in at times truly ensured we were accommodated. Thanks Chris, Jada and Blu Pointe for the great final act to my surprise Birthday weekend!

Yelp
This place doesn't miss! Bartenders were super attentive and followed up repeatedly to make sure we had everything we needed on date night. Pigs on a Wire (thick-cut bacon with an incredible honey-Dijon dipping sauce and an atypical presentation) is not to be missed.

Yelp
The ambiance was absolutely beautiful- sitting right on the water.. but everything was extremely expensive for the quality and quantity of what we expected. We heard that the happy hour selection and prices are much more reasonable.. we will try again- but not for the dinner menu. The snow crab legs were 80 dollars and lacked flavor.
