Google
Service was great! My husband heard this was the best coffee place in San Francisco so we had to give it a try! The woman who helped us answered all our questions and gave great recommendations! We tried the Winter pour over, single origin pour over, winter espresso, and single origin espresso! The winter pour over was our favorite! We had the option of ceramic cups or to go cups for our espresso shots. We chose ceramic so we could drink them there & cut down on waste. They were served with sparkling mineral water! Thank you so much for an amazing experience. Can’t wait to try out or local Blue Bottle in San Diego!

Google
The quality of coffee at Blue Bottle is top-notch, as always, but the service was a major letdown. I visited on July 31, 2024, and ordered one coffee and a waffle. When my name was called, I received only the coffee. Assuming the waffle was still being prepared, I waited and took some photos. After five minutes, I asked about it, only to be told that my waffle had been mistakenly given to another customer who had already left. I was stunned—they didn’t even apologize for the mix-up! The staff simply said they’d make a new waffle. There was no apology for the misunderstanding, and no thank you when they finally handed it over. Overall, the lack of basic courtesy made this one of the worst service experiences I’ve had. Great coffee, but they really need to work on their customer service.

Google
Blue Bottle is one of my favorite coffee shops in San Francisco. I always order the NOLA with oat milk, either hot or cold depending on the weather, and it’s delicious. The service is always great. The Ferry Building location is my favorite because it stays open later.

Google
The guys were so funny and nice! They made a special cappuccino for me (see the funny pic) and made my day! Coffee is a bit expensive for the cup size, but hey! Coffee is really good. :))

James Dylan

Google
Coffee is great, but stay away from the sugary chai! I ordered a chai latte and it was so sugary, so sickeningly sweet I threw it away. It was like eating candy. Guys, chai is black tea with spices and milk, period. Stop copying Starbucks and their overly sweet "4 pumps" of syrup! Make it authentic or dont make it at all.

Google
The origin place of Blue bottle cafe. It was aquite small cafe. With long history, there is heritage of San Francisco. In fact, there are Blue Bottle cafes all over the city, but if you like Blue Bottle, it's worth visiting at least once. In the evening, if you walk around the pier behind the cafe with coffee, the night view across the sea is wonderful. You can drink coffee and take a look around. It's a great place with a story.

Google
I would like to start by saying that Saturday is really busy in the Ferry building. But the thing with this location is that on saturdays you can also enjoy the farmers market here. So the staff here is very kind. You can order ahead on your phone. I ordered latte and waffle. The latte was very good and they use oatly oat milk. They also sell merchandise. In terms of seating you can find locations to sit around the ferry building.

Google
Great coffee choices while you wait for a ferry! I was a bit bored and walked around and saw this coffee place! It was so nice and simple! As a matcha lover I got one for myself… I took it to go! The coffee art was so cute! They really make a good matcha there!

Luigi B.

Yelp
(Daniel Craig voiceover) The vibe is the most fabulous coffee in the Ferry Building. Chelsea warmly greeted us! She is super nice! Went with the Cappucino avec quatre shots. The Hayes Valley Espresso is quite delectable. 4 times all at once. The Winter Latte is also fabulous! Got some instant coffee and espresso sachet merch to go! Would order everything again! Thanks, Chelsea! Ciao!

Yelp
We stopped by Blue Bottle Coffee at the Ferry Building while exploring the city, mostly because it had such high ratings, and we were not disappointed. The place was busy, but the line moved pretty fast, so we didn't have to wait long, which was a nice surprise considering the sizable crowd. My understanding is that they don't serve anything that isn't listed on their menu, (ex. no 'vanilla latte' just the listed 'caffe latte'), but everything on it feels a bit more unique than your standard coffee shop offerings, so we didn't really mind. I ended up getting a caffe latte, which was really good, and definitely a big step up from what you get at most big chain coffee spots. That being said, it was also a bit on the expensive side, two drinks came out to $16.50, which is a quite bit more than we're used to. Overall, if you're willing to spend a little more for a top-notch cup of coffee, Blue Bottle is a solid choice.

Lakshana A.

Yelp
Definitely overhyped and so expensive?? I honestly don't understand why. This is definitely one of those ~hip trendy minimalistic cool~ coffee shops you'd see where you know the coffee probably isn't great but it seems to receive a lot of hype (in my opinion). I tried the saffron vanilla latte which was I think $8.50??? I don't think anyone should be paying that much unless the coffee is phenomenal, which this wasn't. It just tasted like badam milk LOL which you can get for 2 bucks at any Indian grocery store. Perhaps there are better drinks there but overall, I think it's just expensive and not that great. The pro I see is location -- you can find this one at the historical Ferry building and you can step out for a stroll right next to the beautiful bay.

Yelp
Blue Bottle Coffee at the Ferry Building in San Francisco is a must-visit for any coffee lover. We ordered three lattes, and the service was impressively quick, making it easy to grab a delicious drink on the go. And...the lattes were creamy and perfectly crafted, delivering that signature Blue Bottle flavor. The location is super convenient, right in the heart of the bustling marketplace. It's a great spot to enjoy a quality coffee in a vibrant setting!

Lisa J.

Yelp
Stopped by the Blue Bottle in the Ferry Building - my first time having Blue Bottle. I got the iced cafe mocha, by far the best coffee in San Fran. The mocha had a nice depth of flavor and you could actually taste the coffee.

Rachel K.

Yelp
I've heard about Blue Bottle Coffee for years, but just had the chance to try it out. On an early Friday morning, around 7:30ish I walked from our hotel to the Ferry building with a couple coworkers to grab coffee. There was no line and they had a variety of options for drinks as well as food. I ended up getting the seasonal option and an everything pull-apart croissant and they were ready quickly. We walked around a bit before finding a place to sit and enjoy everything. The coffee was delicious and I loved the attention to detail with the latte art and the little topping. The everything pull-apart was good, but I would have preferred a fluffier version versus how crispy this was. It wasn't bad, just a personal preference. I love a fluffy croissant experience. From other reviews it seems you should avoid peak hours if you don't like a wait. We walked around the Ferry building a few times during the trip and the lines can get long. The staff there was also really nice, even though it was early.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Great location in the middle of the Ferry Building. It had a long line but we got through it pretty quickly. The matcha latte is definitely on the less sweet side and more milk heavy, but it's refreshing! My husband ordered the samra latte which was created by The Weeknd apparently, and has honey, vanilla, and cinnamon. It was a little too bitter for my taste but at least it was mixed well. I like that the drinks have enough ice, yet not too much. Overall good spot to grab some caffeine while you're here.

Jasmine B.

Yelp
Coffee is so smooth it should be called something else. i absolutely love blue bottle

Mary V.

Yelp
YES to Blue Bottle Coffee! I used to live near one of their cafes and it was my go-to. So when we were in SF for work, I was thrilled to visit the Ferry Building location. Note: it's a walk-up counter, not a full cafe, but there's outside seating to be found at and around the Ferry Building. We visited on a Friday morning around 7:30am and I was surprised that the entire Ferry Building was pretty quiet. We were helped quickly and the friendly staff happily answered questions. I ordered a classic latte. There's only one size available and I think they said that it's normally made with oat milk, but they do offer a few different 'milks.' While I like an oat milk latte, I do prefer a dairy milk latte especially when I'm ordering out, so went that route and it was smooth and delicious! I also indulged in a thick slice of moist and perfectly balanced banana bread (not too sweet). I tried a few other coffee shops while in town and Blue Bottle made the best latte IMO. I'll definitely be back!

Shawna M.

Yelp
I can not say enough about Blue Bottle. The coffee and the employees make this place one of my favorites. The ambiance: What can I say is that it is busy in the Ferry Bldg, but it is worth the wait for this wonderful eye opener. The creamy Humboldt vanilla ice cream paired with the richest and deep dark espresso is a lil taste of heaven. I'll see you again Saturday my dear Affogato.

Raneem R.

Yelp
I love blue bottle, they always have great matcha and coffee. This location is perfect when going to the farmers market on Tuesday's and Saturday's. All their drinks come with oat milk as the standard, but you can change it (I think for an extra charge). I'm not sure if it was because it was just busy but the matcha tasted very watered down. I think they added a bit too much milk. I like the oat milk base because it brings out the matcha flavor.

Jed M.

Yelp
I have not been a big iced coffee guy, but the NOLA might have converted me! Tried the NOLA ice coffee while passing through the ferry building- love the creamy and subdued sweetness with the rich coffee flavor! Perfect morning drink for a warm summer day! This shop is a walk-up counter only but they were super quick and friendly! Clean and modern looking shop. Great location!

Austin G.

Yelp
Great coffee! This is a chain coffee joint but the beans they use and the time they take to make their coffee really makes all the difference

John S.

Yelp
It baffles me that this place has only one dollar sign ($). They sell expensive coffee here. It ain't cheap. You are paying extra due to the Blue Bottle name and the Ferry Building location. Having said that, the coffee is darn good. And you have the ambiance of the historic Ferry Building to admire while you sip your cup of Joe. They make each cup to-order and with care. NOTE: The line can get long, especially on the weekday mornings and mid-afternoon on the weekends. Recommend going on the off hours. This Blue Bottle is a walk-up counter only. If you need seating, not worry - just head outside toward the water and sit with a beautiful view of the Bay.

Sharrie N.

Yelp
Great coffee-okay service. Located in the Ferry building, this is a good spot to grab your coffee without having to stand in loooong line (order ahead!!) Space was clean, and they have all the kids and condiments on the side... I mean, they're friendly- enough ha.. but some cold people serving some hot coffee

Amy F.

Yelp
My coffee addiction is serious. I like my coffee extra strong and just a little sweet, just like my men. One of the things I love about San Francisco is the abundance of coffee shops, and blue bottle always delivers. This morning as wandered through the Ferry Building, I stopped at Blue Bottle for a latte. The line was long but moved quickly. I did have to wait a while for the drink to be prepared, but maybe that's because of the anticipation. When they called my name I scrambled to get it and find myself a seat on one of the benches out back so I'd have a view of the bay with my latte. It's the perfect start to a sunny Saturday morning in San Francisco! Blue Bottle isn't cheap and it isn't fast, but it's totally worth it!

Mika G.

Yelp
If you like small batch coffee definitely try this out if you are in San Fran. It's in a Farmers Market type location and can have a pretty long line but it moved fast enough for me. Coffee is personal I feel so just go with your gut on what you think you would like.

Amy H.

Yelp
The iced sweet latte freaking slaps. It's not too sweet (though I ask for extra sweet for the perfect sweetness for me), refreshing, and with a hint of burnt sugar. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't like me spending $7.50 on a small sized iced coffee so this is definitely a treat for only once a week max.

Jon T.

Yelp
I really enjoy this blue bottle location and stop by anytime I'm at the ferry building. First, despite it being a busy location, they move through orders very quickly. Second, they usually seem to have at least one vegan pastry, which is super appreciated and welcome with a hot beverage. And maybe not specific to this location exactly, but they (and blue bottle) make a great matcha latte (with oat milk!) So treat yourself to a drink and take a pleasant stroll (or seat) on the Embarcadero. Can't be beat!

Monica O.

Yelp
When in the city one of the must do stops I have is to visit Blue Bottle Coffee, and I happen to be in the Ferry Building so that's where I went. After checking out menu I went with a caramel caffe latte with an extra shot hot since it was a little chilly outside. Of course, because it's in the ferry building the line was long, but it moves rather quickly so don't let it deter you. Waited a few and then my latte was done. This was a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, and just what I was wanting. If in the City or the bay area, go give Blue Bottle Coffee a try!

Arman Eli P.

Yelp
A place located in the historic Ferry Building! Drinks that are soothing and pastries that can suffice a hungry stomach. The staff are always very nice as well

Adam B.

Yelp
I can't believe I've been living/working near this Blue Bottle for ages, but never got around to reviewing it. It's not really a daily coffee place for me and I definitely avoid it on Saturdays when it's crazy. But it has been nice to take visitors here as an occasional treat. It costs about $13-$15 all-in for a medium sized coffee drink and pastry, so it's by no means a daily luxury! Caffè Mocha: I think I like their espresso drinks more than their pour over coffee. I like milk and sugar in my coffee beverages and the dark roast espresso just stands up better than the milder hand brewed coffee. Add in some mocha and this is so decadent. Shakerato: Why not start the day with a drink poured from a martini shaker? Espresso, cold milk and some sort of sweetener shaken over ice and then poured over ice. Very cold and refreshing. And because of the shaking approach, they don't need to overload your cup with ice after the fact. Much better than any sort of iced latte I've gotten at a big coffee chain. Spiced NOLA Iced Coffee: Very refreshing and probably the most personality I've experienced in an iced coffee. Dark roast goodness and lots of subtle spices seeped in. Just perfect with some whole milk. Liège Wafel: Cooked fresh to order, so took longer than my beverage. Came out warm and sweet, though not with a sugary crust. That actually formed a little later, when the waffle cooled. So maybe hold off a bit, if you have the willpower, because it's better with the crispy sugary shell. Gruyère Wafel: I was truly shocked. This turned out to be way better than the sweet liège wafel (which was still good). The cheese created an amazing browned cheese taste along the many waffle ridges. And the little chives inside were a perfect herbal pairing. It's like someone made a gougère in the shape of a waffle. Everything Pull-Apart Croissant: Another interesting pastry, proving you shouldn't sleep on the savory items here. Tons of spices and some seeds painted all over golden crispy outside. Though garlic did seem to be the dominant flavor. Could easily pull off pieces and it's like a mini-croissant, with the inside being so moist and buttery.

Zach H.

Yelp
Great spot for a joe. Right in the middle of the ferry building. Their lattes are really good here. They also sell bags of coffee for $25-$35. Make sure you know if you're getting beans are not as the label doesn't make it too obvious. Line goes by quick.

Alex T.

Yelp
If your in the ferry building and your looking for coffee, look no further. . I am a big fan of blue bottle coffee. My to go to drink is new Orleans style coffee. The drink is not too sweet but strong and tasty. . They also make vegan new Orleans with oat milk if your wondering for vegan options. . There is no seating, basically order and go. . We just stop by to get a drink and went straight to dim sum for brunch nearby. We had a lovely day and had a great experience. Thanks for reading and have a yelptastic day!

Julie C.

Yelp
Stopped by here because I wanted coffee and have wanted to try this place. The prices are a bit higher than other coffee shops but they are located in the ferry building so that might be the reason. I had a regular latte and I will say their coffee is really good quality very smooth delicious latte. I had heard this place was good and they definitely live up to what I heard. Stop by if you are at the ferry building.

Tu-Anh N.

Yelp
WHEN: Sat @10am I'm so happy to be here again because its been so long. Before the start of the pandemic one of my favorite things to do at the Ferry Building was getting an affogato. I remember one time they couldn't serve any because they were out of ice cream. But with Humphrey Slocombe because literally across the way, they no longer have that excuse! AFFOGATO - $8 2 scoops of Humphrey Slocombe ice cream with a shot of espresso poured over it. For awhile they were serving this with Brown Maple Butter ice-cream which I hated because you are tasting tiny balls of wax in this mix. This time it was their Tahitian Vanilla Bean ice cream and it was perfect! But it was served in a cup. I prefer how they used to be served--in a cardboard bowl so that the espresso would be more evenly distributed. Nevertheless, this was still a lovely treat! Too bad you can't order from other side window anymore, it looks like its more online order pick up. There's always new dessert shops popping up here at the Ferry Building but I will always come to Blue Bottle not for the affogato (even if I don't see it on the menu).

Katherine G.

Yelp
Love Blue Bottle, and this location is great - grab a coffee and explore the farmer's market . The only downside is long lines

Rachel H.

Yelp
Blue Bottle is a former SF upstart that is now Swiss owned, and I'm not sure what to think about that. It wasn't too long ago that Blue Bottle was a rapidly expanding secret in Oakland's Temescal District and running carts at the Ferry Building with steampunked looking slow drip contraptions set up. A local favorite. An innovator. Now many years later, while the founders are still involved in the business, Blue Bottle is owned by Nestle (who have over a 60% stake in the company.). While the coffee still tastes great, and the product is still worth lining up and waiting for at this Ferry Building outlet, there's no escaping the feeling that the Swiss now own one of the best things about the Bay Area. Sigh. Things never stay the same. We tend to grab a bag of roasted beans or order coffee, strong espresso drinks or matcha lattes with oat milk here.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Since I was coming into the city early by the Ferry and had some time to kill before my Alcatraz reservation, I made it a point to stop here and try their New Orleans style cold brew. First starters, the customer service here is great. I ended up coming by twice; on the way in and on the way out. In the morning, the ferry building was empty. In the afternoon, it was a mad house. Both times, however, the employees were great. To go with my cold brew I ordered a waffle (because why not?) Both we're delicious! Probably the best waffle and cold brew I've ever had, anywhere. To top it off, the view of the ocean and bay bridge behind the building is jaw dropping at sunset. I will definitely be back again and recommend them to anyone and everyone.

Vincent T.

Yelp
im not even a coffee person but the samra iced coffee was amazing. it was like the oerfect amount of sweetness and didnt have an overpowering bitterness. the cashier was exceptionally friendly. its a cute little shop located within the ferry building in san francisco. their logo is literally a blue bottle, hard to miss! definitely give it a try if you get the chance!

Edith M.

Yelp
Hot chocolate and latte were deli Butter croissant was also very good Staff was very friendly

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Simple and nicely brewed coffee quality, one can taste here! Came here on a Sunday morning for a walk before heading somewhere else for lunch. Iced cold brew is refreshing. They put in their regular hot coffee cups instead of the see through plastic cups, which I find interesting (unless they ran out for that day). What I found special, was their affogato, and other ice cream with coffee items on the menu. I got caffeinated and awakened here after some sips of their coffee!

Kirti S.

Yelp
I had the hot chocolate with regular milk. It was delicious, perfect for a crisp SF evening. Delicious The staff is very quick with the turnaround. You will get your beverage quickly. The range of milk options is awesome. I will be going back for more !!

Mikayla P.

Yelp
Came early on a Friday morning coffee run and there was few people around the ferry building looking at the different coffee options (there are a few) we settled on blue bottle and we were very happy with our yummy coffee and quick service, just the way it's meant to be!!

Jimmy C.

Yelp
Nothing can still go wrong with Blue Bottle Coffee. You can definitely find the picture of an all blue bottle on a wooden board hanging anywhere on the wall. And you can find the same places that has one like California st Chinatown, Market st, wherever you can find them. Some were temporarily closed, most of them were still opened for business. And how good Blue Bottle is depend on the customer service as well as its quality of the coffee and tea drinks. Anyways, I chose the one inside the Ferry Building. Its baristas and owner were both friendly and energetic. Those Blue Bottle mugs and dishwasher safe cups sure are fancy enough to take home for purchase. If there's one drink I wish to try was any Fizz, but that drink wasn't on my bucket list. So I chose to buy hojicha latte for starters. I haven't had hojicha many times since matcha had grown more popular; therefore, hojicha came out second best due to its famously smoky flavor. Love their best latte art! Will I come here again? Depends. I still like Red Bay Coffee more than ever. Blue Bottle continues to spread like wildfire good enough to please enough customers.

Gregg R.

Yelp
Blue Bottle Cafe with no line? No way! Of course, when there isn't a line I'm obligated to go as my caffeine intake had no time limits. Most of my experience with Blue Bottle has been of the aluminum cane variety but that doesn't mean I won't make a beeline to their cafe when given a chance. To add a little intrigue and variety I tried their iced Mocha with oat milk. I really appreciate that it wasn't an overly sweet mess and the dark chocolate was just the right level of bitterness that still allowed the coffee to shine through. Located inside the Ferry Building, I know this place can get busy and even during this busy times, the line always moves quickly so I'll always make an excuse to visit even with that haha.

Patrick B.

Yelp
Barista just casually gave my two coffees away to some random couple. How about you use some volume when announcing my drinks were ready so I could grab them instead of whispering like we're in a library. No apology, just oh I'll take another 10 minutes to make your coffees and then give me a small after I ordered a large. Again OH....no apology again and no effort to make up for his mistakes. Maybe refund me for having to wait what is now 20+ minutes for two simple coffees.

Darlene M.

Yelp
Blue Bottle Coffee is my absolute favorite Bay Area coffee! This location is my first stop when I get off the ferry from Vallejo - my absolute MUST!!! Coffee is smooth and delicious... best tasting all around. I usually get the Caffe Mocha or the Caffe Latte. If you see a Blue Bottle Coffee shop, grab a cup!

William M.

Yelp
My coffee was excellent and was served quickly. When I ordered, I was greeted by. Friendly young lady, who very nicely took my order. This is located in the ferry building. It is very good location.

Ricca Cathrina E.

Yelp
Well we know they have great coffee. The staff members were nice but the service was so slow. We saw almost half of the staff hanging (perhaps during their break) at the back by the wait area which doesn't look good if you've been waiting for your coffee. They almost forgot our waffle too! I also am not a fan of names loudly and not gracefully called over a mic. Something is clearly not working on their work process if wait lines are long and half of the staff members are just hanging at the back of the store in front of the long line of customers.

Ernest F.

Yelp
Great espresso and great waffles. Excellent service. Well organized. Delicious coffee. Tasty snacks. Whenever I need a caffeine fix, I always come to Blue Bottle. Always.

Joselyn T.

Yelp
Was passing through the area and had to stop by as I have been waiting to try the Samra coffee, a collab with The Weeknd! I ordered a medium iced samra latte with almond milk. It was amazing! Not too sweet, not at all bitter, perfect balance of flavors. To top off the experience, the customer service was outstanding. Although there were a few people in line behind me, the cashier still took the time to describe the drink to me, from the components, the flavors, down to what she thought. Such outstanding customer service. I am excited to return to this well-ran establishment.

Scott H.

Yelp
Over $6 for 9 oz of coffee. At this coffee shop, a splash of milk is worth at least a $1.50. This coffee is good, but it's not that good. They only have one size and it's super tiny. I'm very disappointed that the Starbucks across the street closed.

Ariel G.

Yelp
Delicious and beautiful matcha tea latte. Service was efficient and friendly! Very casual ambiance

Jillian P.

Yelp
Grabbed a drip coffee (Winter Blooms blend) to go. Robust flavor with a smooth nuttiness coming through. I take my coffee with a splash of oat milk, and the creaminess brings out the darker notes of the coffee. Would recommend doing by before strolling the water front.

Maria W.

Yelp
Omg. Pride weekend and they have one barista. They messed up our order. Tried to offer me a totally different drink that had been sitting on the counter for at least four minutes. Service and quality have really gone down. So very disappointing. Better to try one of the other many many delicious and gracious coffee purveyors right outside the door.

Marc M.

Yelp
Used spoiled whole milk in cappuccino, a number of friends were sick right after. Looking closer kitchen was also not clean.

Alisa C.

Yelp
I was walking by the Ferry building and decided to make a pit stop as it was pretty warm out. I enjoyed a delicious iced Matcha Latte with oat milk. The wait wasn't too long and they have a couple seats around for sitting but otherwise plan to grab a drink and keep moving. I spied a delicious looking everything flavored croissant of sorts that I might have to try next time.

jas k.

Yelp
We stopped here for our caffeine fix post lunch & oh my what amazing cappuccino they made. We enjoyed our cappuccino right outdoors taking in the lovely views of water & Bay Bridge. Their cappuccino is the best we have had and would definitely recommend this location as you get to enjoy the views as well.
