I don’t get the hype 😭 found the coffee quite weak. Breakfast bun was good, choc chip pound cake was ok. Overall overpriced and will not be back — items in the pic cost us ~$30

I love Blue Bottle. I had it every single day in New York and LA. I love that they have many locations in DC. They always have good services and the best oat milk latte in the US. Their instant coffee is very strong and the best quality ever. I also love their Hayes Valley espresso that the coffee I gotta have at home.

FOOD: late afternoon so we didn’t get food. COFFEE: best Cortado I had this week in the area. Tried the Hot Nola (kid thought it was something else), and it was really good as well (different, and I’ve never had NoLa style coffee, but still good). STAFF: nice, prompt, efficient, helpful. Gave recommendation on coffee beans for espresso at home. DECOR: Clean lines/interior, lots of seating. Something, anything on shelves or walls would brighten up considerably. Nice day out, so outdoor chairs would be nice.

Iced Nola was delicious! Great server :)

Google
I love this Blue Bottle Coffee. The locations is great. In the middle of the Union Market area. The coffee is excellent. The Baristas give great service. They are friendly. They have WIFI in case you need to stop in to work for a little bit. There is also great seating outside. This is definitely my go-to when I am in NE DC.

If you want snobby coffee go here. Went there for one thing they “think” they don’t have it. The girl didn’t even bother to check. Just stood at the register. I asked if she had any other suggestions she replied with, “idk it’s all coffee. Depends on what you want.” Thanks for showing motivation for working there. Told her my order. She rolls her eyes. Wouldn’t suggest going there. There’s so many other coffee spots and this one is not it.

Google
It’s a great neighbourhood coffee shop; superb coffee, really excellent pastries, and it looks ace. There’s not much more you need really. Area is super cool, place serves it really well. Good all round.

Google
Blue bottle just opened near Union market. The location is large and has a coffee lab. Service was fast coffee was tasty. They offer pastries, beans, scales, Chemex and pour over kettles. Really anything you need to start your brewing at home. Prices are reasonable for exceptional coffee.

Jamesa H.

Yelp
Visiting union market to meet a friend, I searched for a coffee shop in the area! Blue Bottle Coffee was everything and more! I know when the weather is warm it will definitely be nice to have seating outside! Very minimalistic aesthetic - bright and welcoming with natural light - welcomed upon entry! They had Fresh pastries to choose from and ample coffee options. I asked if they had caramel latte since that's a go to of mine and it was suggested I get the Sweet latte which is like a brown sugar latte. It was tasty. You'll have the option to have your beverage there to to-go. I got it for there & read for a while. I also enjoyed conversation with another patron as well. Restrooms are available for customers. Definitely stop in to support!

Yelp
What's not to love about a Blue Bottle sourced straight from my hometown - Oakland, CA! But on the real, not every coffee chain location is going to provide the same service. Union Markets team have become family to my husband and I. Whether we pop in for our morning cold brews or afternoon pick me ups, they're friendly, handle everything with ease (even when jam packed, line out the door) and provide a calming place for their delicious coffee. Modifications to any beverage are met with an 'of course' not sigh or push back. One flag for those of you BB first timers, the coffee ain't cheap (!) but well worth it.

Suzie Z.

Yelp
Nice chill spot to hang with friends or networking centrally located near Noma metro and union market area. My cappuccino was served with oat milk and it is delicious. I have been to the Georgetown branch and it is my first time trying out the one at union market area. Will be back to try out other flavors.

Yelp
We were greeted right away by the employees on this afternoon. Really enjoyed coming inside from the snow and getting unique, flavorful coffees - we tried a latte, single origin pour over and the chicory blend. All delicious, perfect temperature and served quickly. Shop was clean and enough room to find a spot to sit. I think they were out of pastries but we had stopped by the Souk x Sweet Lobby location at Union Market beforehand.

Amber N.

Yelp
Great service- they were really friendly and helpful with explaining some of the different things in the menu. The atmosphere is chill. It is small inside so not a lot of seats. They had a few tables outside as well. The coffee was decent. The sweet latte was made with their own special syrup. I asked for 2 pumps. It could be sweeter for me, but I could see others enjoying it as is. It was a different taste so happy I tried it.

Carla B.

Yelp
Walked past Blue Bottle while strolling around Union Market on a Sunday afternoon. I'm always happy to find a new coffee shop so I stopped in. It wasn't crowded but there were people sitting around at the tables. I ordered the iced Nola. Service was really quick. I turned around to check out something and it was already ready. The Nola was good and just what I was looking for. I would go back.

Moiz T.

Yelp
This reminded me of my time in San Francisco where they started up. One of the best coffee shops around, and it's always so consistent across them. I had the iced spiced NOLA and iced cafe mocha (had to get both since it was such a hot day!). Both were delicious and had the right ratio of ingredients. The coffee was smooth and definitely hit the spot on a day like today. I would pick them over Starbucks or any other chain any day of the week. Highly recommend!

Franceska R.

Yelp
Blue bottle coffee never disappoints and staff was awesome and super friendly. But I was really surprised by a few items. The place was on the dirtier side with trash and tables not wiped so it was a little disheartening there, but that's a nit pick compared to the overall experience.

Matt B.

Yelp
The coffee here is excellent as is the service. Oren makes the best americano I've ever had.

Jahmelia B.

Yelp
So nice I had to try it twice! Besides being conveniently located inside the train station the coffee is really really good. I ordered the spicy Nola and loved it. The baristas are really good at what they do, you can totally feel the love and sense of pride they have in making their drinks! Both times I ordered I was addressed by name and asked if I liked my drink!! If I had a magic wand and could change anything about this place I'd add more seats! There were very limited places to sit and lots of coffee lovers! Overall I really enjoyed my visits and will be back again.

Jordan M.

Yelp
4/5. I really liked Blue bottle. After passing it a 100 times I finally stopped in today and ordered a new Orleans style iced coffee (via recommendation of the tik-tok girlies). It was really solid. It's a cold brew oat milk mix. Very simple and tasty. This is not my usual drink. I'm typically a give me the espresso and cold brew black kinda guy but this hit the spot today. The server was really cool and I love the simple vibe and aesthetic of the shop. I'll definitely be back.

Stedmond P.

Yelp
The chocolate chip cookie was good but the cold brew was mediocre. I expected a stronger punch. I truly enjoyed the service. The gentleman that took my order was kind and patient, and the other gentleman that made my friend's drink was nice! It's a great place have cup of coffee and knock out a few task online. The ambiance was very refreshing - clean, minimal, well-lit, and chill.

Isaac R.

Yelp
This coffee, I have seen it in Whole Foods on their fridge aisle, but finally!!! I found a coffee shop. It is in a really cool community. The place looks so cool and clean.

Sof N.

Yelp
Blue bottle is hands down my favorite coffee. I've been to the Georgetown location probably the most but also to this location and the union station location. All locations I've been to are consistent. I use the app to order ahead and coffee is always the perfect temperature. Tried the spiced Nola today and I really loved it. Customer service is great. I generally will go out of my way to get coffee from here cause it's just that good. It's definitely not cheap but when you think of what Starbucks charges this is totally worth it. Ambiance is clean and bright.

Dominique C.

Yelp
This is my second time at blue bottle and the second time my service was outstanding. The baristas here really know and enjoy the products, so they can make excellent suggestions because of this. Everyone is very nice, helpful, and overall, I just left with such a great energy. I spoke to one of the gentlemen in the front on Saturday morning and he shared how the company pours into the staff. That shows one hundred-fold. While I am a home brewer. And don't particularly buy coffee out often, blue bottle will be my first choice when I do.

K K.

Yelp
The coffee here is delish and the almond croissants are superb. The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

Phil E.

Yelp
The chain of coffee shops from NOLA is here in Union Market, and has a convenient order ahead service, making it super quick to drop by and pick up a coffee on the way to work. They have recently expanded their breakfast options by adding some egg bites and a breakfast sandwich. They keep things simple by having one size for their drinks. Some may not like this, but I think it keeps their carbon footprint to a minimum. Their cups are bio-degradable! The Union Market location is quite central to many of the residences, and on a corner with south and east facing windows, it's a cute spot for morning sun. Lots of people sit at tables with their laptops and their coffee.

Amaka O.

Yelp
I'm here once a week! It's overpriced but high quality and I can post up outside and people watch with my latte. Oat milk is the default dairy here. Staff is friendly and they remember their regular customers, which I really appreciate.

Ashlee A.

Yelp
Quick visit I was passing by to another store. Inside is clean, nice customer service, but for the price and taste I wouldn't return again. My croissant wasn't that good buttery taste until the very last bite and my matcha was just okay. There was a bar for different add-ins but there's nothing like a good base that doesn't need much. 3.5 stars.

Annie R.

Yelp
We ordered a hot matcha latte with oat milk and it tasted great even without any sweetener. The smell when you walk in is so delish. Would def go back over and over again!

Jody S.

Yelp
Couldn't get past the overwhelming warm greet and personal connection! Perfection . The order was modified to our extreme request. Absolutely delicious.

Yelp
With all the amazing coffee shops in DC there is really no excuse for subpar and expensive coffee. I've tried the coffee at several different locations and it is always bland, small and unimpressive. All their coffee seems to have a strong chicory flavor which to me tastes sour and cheap. And they add some kind of service charge so even a plain hot or iced coffee is like $6. I would rather go to Starbucks than this chain. The atmosphere is also very concrete and uncomfortable so I know they aren't investing in decor

Lindsey H.

Yelp
3 stars because I didn't try the coffee, but my matcha was such a disappointment! I get matcha probably 4/5 times I go to a coffee shop, so I feel familiar enough with what I like and don't like. Blue Bottle's matcha latte felt like way too much milk, and not enough matcha. It wasn't concentrated enough and didn't have any flavor even when I added some sugar to it. For a steep $7, my first experience at a Blue Bottle was a letdown.

Ria J.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast since it was close to my hotel. Great coffee but more on the expensive side as is typical for this chain. My avocado toast took a bit longer to prepare than I thought but it was delicious!

John B.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in Georgetown, it's usually to pick something up or run an errand. Coming from Capitol Hill, I gotta make it worth the trek. Enter this Blue Bottle location. My go-to place to enter flow states at work! The staff here actually greet you with a smile, and a "how's it going?". I love that so much! Yes, the coffee is a bit pricey, but you're in DC so what do you expect? Ordering is super easy and drinks come out quickly. I'll usually take a seat and post-up either by the window or on one of the tables if there's space. You can also sit just outside, or down the stairs by the river if that suits your fancy. The drinks are yummy and it's just a great place to spend an afternoon working. My only complaint is that they really need to fix their wifi situation. I have not been able to successfully connect AND have a good experience with it. Usually, I end up using my phone's hotspot. Which is okay, but having good wifi at a coffee shop is sort of requirement nowadays. When I look at the wifi list, unfortunately I see lots of customers relying on their hotspots, too. So with all that being said, I really can't knock Blue Bottle too much. I always get a lot done here, and asides from the wifi it's a solid experience. Just be warned that it you are working here, you'll need to hotspot if you want internet.

Julian O.

Yelp
TLDR: overpriced, okay coffee. A pour over coffee costs more than $5 here. I suppose you can make the argument that you are paying for the ambience, but they serve it in a tiny (less than 8oz?) paper cup with no top even though I sat down. Hmm, I guess some people still think it's worth it; I have to disagree.

Nurcan Ç.

Yelp
Their internet is awful which l assume they do it on purpose to prevent people from sitting there for a long time. They have good coffee though.

Jennie K.

Yelp
I was so excited to learn that Blue Bottle Coffee was coming to DC. This was my go-to coffee shop in NYC and Santa Monica. I've also been trying to find a coffee shop that could emulate the taste of the New Orleans. Today was (finally) my first time here. The facility is super clean and pretty trendy. The pastries were nicely displayed right at the front and there's ample amount of seating for the size of the place. Zander helped us out at the register and was extremely friendly and accommodating. Someone needs to get him promoted because he is such a pleasant employee! I'm definitely going to come back and recommend family and friends to come here to have the delicious New Orleans iced coffee.

Linda O.

Yelp
I've visited 3 times. First time, I ordered a fancy coffee. It was served lukewarm and tasted weak. For the price being asked, I expected better. Second and third times, I got hot chocolate--which was pretty good. I rank this spot about midrange in terms of the competition. The staff is personable and the interior is cosmopolitan and inviting.

Rupa N.

Yelp
My go to Blue Bottle Coffee location. The service is good and friendly and my drink always tastes good. My go to used to be the New Orleans with oat milk and now it's the Shakerato with oat milk. It's the perfect iced drink with a the right amount of sweetness and frothyness which makes it nice and light. I tried the Muscovado Sugar Latte today too which was nice, it is less sweet than the Shakerato. Any drink you get, you'll enjoy it. Definitely check out Blue Bottle.

Rikki M.

Yelp
The staff at this Blue Bottle, even when faced with long lines, are consistently fantastic and happy to answer questions. This is hands down my favorite coffee chain in DC, and I will happily pay the price to get my beloved mocha with oat milk or my surprise favorite hot chocolate.

Priscilla T.

Yelp
One of my go-to cafes since it's close-by and quality coffee! Only thing is that it's pretty pricey. I usually get an Iced Muscavado Latte, and if I'm feeling luxurious I get a Shakerato which is the same thing, but shaken for another 50 cents or something lol. I also appreciate their Matcha Latte and sparkling drinks too

Matthew A.

Yelp
Clean and friendly establishment. The staff was outstanding! Shout out to Sheldon and the nice girl who greeted us when we walked in. We are visiting from Cali and this was a nice stop in for a warm drink. Thanks Sheldon for hooking my girls up with the coffee art.

Sarah B.

Yelp
I've been going here a couple times a week for over a year now. I've never had such exceptional service than with Nathan and Lee-Ann. They make a great team. I never really experienced anything like that in the year or so that I've been going, so I was completely caught off guard. They give off such a friendly vibe & make the experience so personal. They really make the experience of your morning coffee that much better. Will definitely be returning more now & looking forward to face to face interactions with them! Thanks guys!!

Bronwyn E.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in DC. If you like matcha this is the best match latte there is to have it is so rich and creamy and highe quality. I have also tried their seasonal coffee drinks which are wonderful!

Rahel M.

Yelp
This little Gem is the perfect place to enjoy delicious coffee and espresso that the baristas brew so meticulously. It's one of my favorite coffee shops in the entire DMV.

Karla D.

Yelp
I just can't believe how good this coffee is! When I'm in NYC I always want to stop and never have time. Luckily on a recent trip to D.C. my hotel was in walking distance so I got to check them out. I was not disappointed, at all. The flavor of the coffee was full and robust and just right. Can't wait to hit them up on my next visit.

Edward G.

Yelp
Pour over coffee and maple scone! Plus this coffee shop opens at 6am in Washington DC where nothing is open this early.

Austin G.

Yelp
UPDATE: Deducting two stars from my previous five-star review. The last two times I've gone in the gentleman behind the cashier has been so rude. Every time someone ordered something, he acted annoyed. He was abrupt, cold, and even yelled at my wife when she didn't hear what size she wanted (which by the way, Blue Bottle, if you have more than one size, list both prices on your menu, not just one. It's weird). We brought our toddler, who sat on a bench watching a show while we had coffee and didn't make a peep. Still, this guy glared at us. I am sure he's a fine person, but customer service is not his skill.

Samet D.

Yelp
I visited here with a friend I just met. Delicious coffee, there are some specialty coffees as well. Very smooth and not that pricey. Last but not least, some unable people work there which made me happy to interact with. #Aquitespot

David M.

Yelp
This is a small location located near union market. There is some seating but not much. It is a bright space with soft music playing so if you can get a seat, it might be a good place to do some work. They offer a very small amount of snacks but pretty much it is a coffee spot. I ordered my usual latte and the default comes with Oat milk so make sure that is what you want. The barista did a nice job with the drink. The milk was textured very nicely and at a great temperature for a latte. The resulting drink was very tasty and smooth. The barista drew some nice latte art, but the only knit is that she was a lefty and didn't rotate the cup to draw the art so for me (and most of us who are right handed), it was backwards. Oh well. No big deal and the drink was very tasty! Overall highly recommend if you are in the area.

Allison N.

Yelp
Totally overpriced coffee with very limited options and the coffee? Honestly, it's not that good. The space is pretty basic. Nothing fancy or special about it. I paid almost $5 for a very small iced coffee which tasted burnt. The service was friendly but this place is definitely overhyped. I wouldn't come back.

Kristi C.

Yelp
So excited to have Blue Bottle in my neighborhood! The folks who work here are so friendly, and their coffee is delicious! This new location isn't as pleasant as their place in Georgetown, but this one I can actually get to, which is a huge plus People here know their stuff, so I ordered by telling them I like Latin American beans and then going with their recommendation. Today that was an espresso blend, which I got as an 8oz Americano. The barista explained that the 8oz and the 12oz have the same amount of espresso, so it's a matter of how much water you want, ie how strong you want the coffee flavor (hence my 8oz). They can do all kinds of coffees here, plus they have some snacks and sandwiches. To take home you can go with coffee beans, coffee makers, Blue Bottle merchandise, and probably more. If cold brew is your thing they have some in cans now, and I recall from other locations that they'll have more cold brew and ice coffees prepared once the weather heats up. Get on over here for your exquisite coffee fix!

Autumn M.

Yelp
I'm a first timer at Blue Bottle Coffee. I arrived and it wasn't crowded at all nearing 10am. The location is in an industrial looking location. I didn't know what I wanted so I browsed the menu for a bit. The girl taking my order was very nice and explained a lot of things to me so that I got what I wanted. I went with a mocha and an americano with a liege waffle. First of all, the waffle was AMAZING. Freshly made and tasted great. It smelled so good while it was cooking. The coffee was good, good quality. I appreciated their commitment to the environment. Wish there was one in Indiana! I'll definitely be stopping in again if I'm in DC!

M Q.

Yelp
Sipping this pour over after some excellent service. A great spot for people (and puppy) watching on a Saturday morning. Definitely coming back the next time I'm in the area

Aparna P.

Yelp
Honestly, I have gone to Blue Bottle many times and I find the service is excellent. However, yesterday I was shocked that a drink I like, which was around 6 bucks had now become 7+ dollars. I'm sorry, but that's insane for a small iced coffee essentially (a muscavado) - It is not that good and soon enough, stores will close because you can get good coffee for cheaper elsewhere.

Laura H.

Yelp
Lovely little spot, the service is really nice and friendly. BEWARE there is no WIFI, apparently people find that upsetting. I tried the two different drip coffees. They are both good, lots of flavor, a bit overpriced but they make a big show of their special brewing process so you feel a bit better about your scientifically calibrated coffee. Great place to read, the inside has lots of light and windows. I recommend walking there or taking the metro, parking is a nightmare and then apparently there's a lot of break-ins, so your expensive coffee is REALLY expensive because it comes with a side of broken window and crying-on-the-phone-with-insurance-agent.

Miellette M.

Yelp
I totally love Blue Bottle. Moved to DC from Oakland a few weeks ago and I knew there were a few locations opening up in DC, so I had to check it out. Everything I love about the Oakland locations was here: clean, friendly and knowledgeable staff (thanks Marcus!), and true to the menu. There's no WiFi, which is typical for Blue Bottle so I wasn't concerned about that. You can tell that the neighborhood is changing dramatically and rapidly. It will be interesting to see how this location will adapt over time.

Tyler R.

Yelp
The coffee is average and are better coined dessert beverages. The espresso drinks are not potent and taste like too much water was used in ratio to coffee grounds. That said, the prices are way too high given the quality. The allure is in the aesthetic & convenience not the actual product. The community & staff are generally very friendly. However, did run into issues when I expressed concern. The barista was unnecessarily passive aggressive.
