Where To Eat Hatch Chile Dishes in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"It’s a real Hatch-a palooza at Blue Goose. Try the Hatch queso, aguachile avocado tostada with Hatch chiles, Hatch pulled chicken enchiladas, a Hatch birria burrito, or Hatch Benedict for brunch. And because there truly is nowhere to run from the spice during Hatch season, Blue Goose also has a Hatch marg and a watermelon Hatch marg." - Courtney E. Smith

This was my first time trying Tex-Mex food, and honestly, it was spectacular. I loved this place. I was a little skeptical of this type of restaurant, but what better way to change my mind than with an invitation from some friends. From the moment I arrived, I smelled the familiar scents of Mexico: freshly handmade corn and flour tortillas, salsas in small molcajetes, and finally, the main dishes. Honestly, I didn't take many photos because I was fascinated by the food and, of course, the company. Thanks to the Blue Goose Cantina staff for the concept. It's phenomenal.

Google
We had a wonderful experience here! I didn't get a picture of everything we ordered but we got an order of Queso & each got the Dirty Bob Burrito smothered in queso. Incredible meal & incredible service. We were sat in a high-top near the bar & out waitress was wonderful & attentive (unfortunately I don't recall her name). We will be back!

Google
It was a amazing experience but the food was bland. My poor husband didn't think there was any seasoning even with the cilantro and onions on top. Overall our waiter was amazing attentive and amazing. We loved him, atmosphere amazing. Food sorry wasn't so flavorful. Maybe just had a off night. 🤷‍♀️

Google
The food was great. Friendly staff and quick service. Like their freshly made tortillas. Queso is a must-try.

Google
Good service with great chips and salsa. Allowed a women with a shedding dog to enter restaurant. Was not a service animal. This is against city ordinance. Lucky the health department was not called.

Google
Excellent food. Definitely recommend the dirty Bob ( chimichanga )! Can't beat $3 margaritas! Wait time wasn't too bad. Excellent service! Parking was tight.

One of the few restaurants open late night on a Monday. Service was still nice and quick, food was delicious. Recommend the bacon wrapped shrimp, well prepared!

I first visited Blue Goose in Plano years back, almost 2 decades ago. I liked it back then but did not return. I don’t know why. Based on multiple positive reviews, I decided to visit a second time. We had to take our food to go but I’d like to return and eat in. The restaurant looks really fun and the employees are super nice. I picked up on a Sunday. My order was ready early. Other customers were coming in to sit in the bar and watch the Cowboys game. We ordered a chicken fajita salad, a beef fajita salad, and slow-roasted brisket tacos. Our order came with a bag of tortilla chips and three containers of salsa. Everything was very good. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Honestly the best Tex-mex food location you can find with the best prices & best quality. They make the tortillas in house, right next to the dining area which is a really cool experience for Kids and adults. Delicious tortillas too. Chicken fajitas are the best here !!

Yelp
We recently visited the Blue Goose for the second time, while staying with family in Carrollton. I will say that the quality of the meal was higher the first time (6-months ago). But overall, we enjoyed the drinks (margaritas), chips and salsa (salsa is too hot for some, but I really like it) and most of us enjoyed our entree. A mistake was made on mine and the food wasn't as hot as it could be. We had a friendly young man waiting on us and he had a great sense of humor. The restaurant was not super busy at 5ish on a Friday night, but was pretty full when we left. It has a lively atmosphere and can be pretty loud when it's full. Our family really likes the Blue Goose, so I am sure we will be back.

Yelp
We came for national margarita day. Service was slow. They were offering 9$ top shelf margaritas which we ordered. I received a a small drink in a plastic cup. Once I took the ice out of the drink, I had half a cup left and it tasted like minute maid. Wouldn't return.

Yelp
I recently visited Blue Goose Cantina and had a mixed but overall positive experience. Given how busy it was, we were quickly seated outside, which was a nice start. Our waiter was friendly and outgoing, and he recommended the Kiwi Cucumber cocktail. It was refreshing and enjoyable, so I appreciated his suggestion. We ordered our appetizer and entrees all at once. We started with the queso, which was good but didn't stand out as exceptional. It took a while for our entrees to arrive, but everything almost came out correctly in the end. My friend and I shared the Classic Enchilada dish and a couple of a la carte Birria Tacos. The food was decent but felt a bit mediocre. I was disappointed that the a la carte Birria Tacos didn't come with consommé, which I think would have added a lot to the dish. While our server was friendly, he wasn't the most efficient. We had to remind him a few times for some things, but he remained courteous throughout. The ambiance was super casual, which is great for a relaxed meal, but nothing really stood out to me. My friends really enjoy it, but personally, I find it to be more on the mediocre side. It's a nice spot, but nothing particularly special.

Yelp
Amazing food service and ambiance I enjoyed my time there and had a great server. Highly recommend

Yelp
This place is great. I went here with my dad and uncle and the chips and salsa are great. The Chips are so thin it's amazing. I got the tacos with ground beef. I don't even know how to describe how good the ground beef is. The server u had was great and I wasn't sure what her name was and she was amazing, didn't catch her name tho

Yelp
Oh no ma'am. November 2023 Friday 3:30ish Waiter was nice. But the food was not. Diablo -- swirl margarita. My friend gave a 2/5 because it's sweet. I like sweet. I gave it a 4/5. But I don't think the alcohol is there. $11, so maybe 3.5/5. House Margarita $5. Terrible. lol. Slurped that down for a bit of buzz. Flavor costs more. Flavor would not have saved it. Queso $9. Nope. I see where they were going with that. But no. To me, it was like the queso was good, but to stretch it and make it last all day, they added water or something. Never again. We just told the waiter we wanted the check. Couldn't imagine how the food was going to be, so we didn't chance it. Off to another restaurant we go. I'll not return

Yelp
I'll be honest, I was hesitant to try this place because it has 3.5 stars but this just goes to show sometimes you just have to try things first yourself. I ordered takeout online and I was really satisfied with the taste and quality. The chicken fajitas, rice, and guacamole were delicious. The brisket tacos and street tacos were pretty tasty too.

Yelp
We made plans to meet our good friends for dinner here at the Blue Goose Cantina. My friend tried to make a reservation by calling and never could get through. Since I have the Open Table app I put in a reservation for 4 for a Friday at 6;00 pm. It accepted my reservation but when I added it to my calendar, it put it down for 12:00 am! Weird! Anyway, when hubby and I arrived there were open booths and tables and we were seated right away. I ordered 4 glasses of water and they were delivered quickly along with a basket of chips and several different salsa dips. Our friends arrived a few minutes later and they were shown over to our booth. We all perused our menus to decide what we were going to order. Service was very attentive. Hubby and I decided to share some chicken fajitas. The food was delivered super fast, especially since it was a busy Friday evening. Everything was prepared as we had ordered it. The chicken was moist and perfectly grilled. We ordered a combination of flour and corn tortillas. It was fun to watch fresh tortillas being made in the machine. We enjoyed our delicious meals with our good friends. The large table next to us had several really loud customers, but luckily they finished up and were leaving, right as our food was being delivered. I could have used a refill in my water glass, especially after all the talking we were doing, but we needed to head out so it was no big deal. We got a "to-go" box and packed up our leftovers to enjoy the next day. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
Drinks were VERY GOOD!! We got both margaritas and we can tell why they were award winners. We also got the queso and it was delicious. Our entrees were just okay nothing that special but still great. I would say the drinks and apps were the best part.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've had Blue Goose. Now upon my recent dining experience, I plan to add it to my regular rotation. My experience was all-around great! I dropped by for lunch on a weekday. I was seated promptly and my order was taken after I had a few moments to check out the menu and nosh on some delicious chips and salsa. The chips here are so light and with very little salt. They are some of the best chips out there! The salsa is great too- it has a slight smokiness to it and is just the right amount of spicy. They have plenty of lunch items to choose from to build your own combo. This time, I picked a cheese enchilada with rice and borracho beans. The queso on the enchilada was pretty darn close to perfect. It was the enchilada I didn't even know I needed. Rice and beans frequently play second fiddler to the main course, but the rice and breaks here are great and have their own special flavor profiles that make them stand out. The rice is mellow and fluffy, while the borracho beans have a thickness to the sauce that lacks in other versions of the dish. Needless to say, I really enjoyed every aspect of my meal. From the piping hot temperature, to the freshness of the food- there is nothing I could think needs to be improved upon! The restaurant itself looks like a refresh. I had never been to this Blue Goose, but based on the other two I had been to, this looks newer. The atmosphere was happy and quite a varied playlist was shooting off everything from Tejano to Counting Crows. Love that diverse assortment of music! Based on my great experience, I look forward to visiting again sometime soon. The food was way beyond my expectations and it was a great value. I made 2 meals out of my dish!

Yelp
Love Blue Goose. Great food and great service every time we go. Consistency is the key! Not too loud but just a good relaxing atmosphere with good quality food

Yelp
Everything about this location was great 1st time here, it was busy but it was worth the small wait. The food was fresh Staff was nice. Food was delicious

Yelp
This place is good, but nothing special. The margarita wasn't fantastic, but we loved all of our food!!
google avatar

Yelp
The food is alright and the drinks are just drinks nothing to say wow it is just food. This is just my opinion, if you want to try it go right ahead but there are better choices out there.

Yelp
The decor is pretty cool at BGC and they've got a good playlist of hits playing over the speakers. It's a really good environment that almost gives off the Chevy's vibe but not as chain-ey. I definitely want to explore the menu more during happy hour. I saw a mountain of nachos pass by and a quesadilla that looks like it could feed the whole table. So the good news is that portions are not an issue here. The kid's menu has a lot of variety which is great if you have picky littles...like everyone does. If your kids are not the rice and beans type, there's a fruit and dip (yogurt) option that may be the most delicious thing ever. Don't try a bite, parents, or you won't let your kids have any. It would just be nice if that could be a free sub for rice and beans instead of an extra charge. More review to follow after next date night, haha.

Yelp
Props for interesting and nicely decorated establishment and servers are generous with the chips and salsa. Ordered the Hibiscus margarita and was brought the El Diablo on accident. (frozen, very strong and alcohol forward!) Once it was switched for correct drink order I was surprised at the mediocrity of the flavor as for something that was voted "Best Margarita Fort Worth". Very basic, blanco tequila flavor too strong for the hibiscus to come thru, didn't seem like anything special tbh especially for a $12 cocktail. Ended up enjoying the delicious and better balanced La Flaca margarita WAY more and it was on happy hour special for just $5! (Wednesday deal 2:30-6:30pm) Top Shelf Queso was just ok, could've used a splash of hot sauce on top for an extra kick, it's just the regular queso with guac, sour cream, meat, & tomatoes dumped in. Shrimp cocktail was over cooked and chewy, it tasted plain and lacking flavor. Beef fajitas on the other hand were tasty and tender. 1/2 lb order is enough for 2 people to share. Ask for lime on the side to squeeze on because it makes the meal more delicious!
google avatar

D'Ann K.

Yelp
We came for a quick bite. We had the Top Shelf queso and it's enough at least 4 people. We ordered the Tilapia tacos and they were awesome. The adult beverages hit the spot. Remember to order soft tortillas. They are made fresh in house.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Fish tacos were wonderful, service was on point and it's always a great atmosphere to be in. Friday evening kept them busy but my service was as good as ever. If you like Old Fashioneds, don't pass up the Mezcal Old Fashioned.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a good place to eat at Park and Preston this is a solid choice. Go for the Goose Eggs, jalapeño chicken and cheese. Avoid Snuffers, go with the Mexican.

Yelp
What in the world? Came here on a Monday evening and t went wrong. The food runner arrived with an incorrect order. When we spoke up, she gave us attitude and told us to figure out the order with the waiter. The waiter never came by but was busy topping up chips and drinks a large table. He was ignoring all his other tables. My guac came out after the main course. My little finally received his kids quesadilla long after our food arrived. The quality of the food today was mediocre. The guac had no flavor, the fish tacos looked pretty but no flavor. The tortillas were from lunch time. Cold and not the usual steaming hot goodness. The enchiladas were fine. I don't know what is going on today. Spring break fever? Whatever it is, poor service and flavorless food does not make for a good experience.

Yelp
I would recommend the frisco or mckinney location over this one any day. Last night, I went to go eat with my friends for taco tuesday and for $2 margaritas. We look young, however we are all ages 21-24. The wait for our table was 30 minutes and there was open seats at the bar so we decided to go grab and drink then we were going to go back to the waiting area to wait for our table. As soon as we get to bar and sit down, the bartender (I did not get his name but he was a shorter hispanic guy with a mullet cut, curly black hair), immediately ask us if we are waiting for a table and when we replied yes, he said then go sit over there (pointing to the waiting area). We said we would like a drink and he walks away. 5 minutes later this other worker who had her hair up in a ponytail, blonde, probably in her late 30s told us that we need to go wait in the waiting area because the bar was for people who are going to be sitting there all night. First of all, you're losing money by not even checking my ID first to see that i'm of age to get a drink, we were not stealing seats from anyone because there was seats at the bar open next to us and all we wanted was a drink then we would go wait in the waiting area. 10 more minutes go by and the bartender has looked at us but not said anything and when my friend tried to speak to him he put his finger up and said something in spanish then proceeded to help other people. This sweet couple then comes and sits next to us and immediately the bartender comes up to them, gives them chips and salsa, asks how they are and what they would like. This pissed me off even more because it's one thing being busy, i don't mind waiting. However, we've been waiting at the bar for 15 minutes and we are told to go wait at the front because you think we are underage and just chilling at the bar before even giving us a short second to show you we are 21 so we can get a drink but a older couple comes and you immediately serve them. Ridiculous and very rude. The couple was going to help us get the attention of the bartender before our table was called which was very sweet of them but it was very unwelcoming and we all know where assuming gets you. Aside from the bar being rude to us, our waiter (i'm not good with names obviously but he also had black curly hair, tattoos and glasses) he was very sweet, attentive and all around a great server. The food was great, drinks were great (I recommend the mango margaritas, they taste fresh), the vibe in the place was great and the hostess's were sweet as well. This was a horrible start to the night and I hope this location learns to do better and hire nicer employees.

Yelp
Food: 5 / Service: 5 / Ambiance: 5 I have known about Blue Goose for years, but this was my first visit and I'm so glad we stopped in. The space is open, with a lot of natural light, with a nice bar and seating includes booths and tables. I would say I'd choose a table next visit as we were seated in a booth and either the table was too high for the seats or vice versa, but it didn't have a happy medium. Our server, Alex, was wonderful! She was friendly and attentive but not intrusive, everything you want in a great server!! Their chips and salsa was good, not spicy, seemed to be more tomato-y and the chips were thin, crispy. They also have house-made corn and flour tortillas, which are a must try if you go there. It's rare to see house-made corn tortillas and both were some of the better that I've had. We tried their combo Nachos. The Chicken was really good, nice flavor, not dry, but the Steak was exceptional, it was delicious and tender. The Nachos did have just bit too much refried beans and not as much cheese as I'd prefer, but overall the Nachos were a hit. We had a Combo plate, where you choose 2 or 3 items...we had a Cheese Enchilada topped with Queso, which had a generous amount of cheese in the enchilada, which I love, and the Queso was great. Our other item we tried was the Blue Goose Tamale, which is a chicken and jalapeno filled Tamale covered in their tomatillo sauce. The tamale itself was great and we enjoyed their tomatillo sauce, which was not spicy and had the right about of twang you expect in tomatillo sauce. Our third item was the Taco Dorado, which is a flauta covered with the tomatillo sauce and Queso Fresco (the crumbly cheese) and it too was delicious! Lastly, and thanks to Alex, we had their Mini Sopapillas...it's an order of 12 covered with cinnamon sugar and drizzled with honey, with dollops of whipped cream. They were so good...great really! Prices as moderate, comparable to most good Mexican food restaurants. They do also offer a weekday menu and also have a brunch menu on the weekends. Based on the service and the food, I'd bubble them to the top of "go to" Mexican food restaurants, so if you're looking for a great lunch or dinner, stop in for a great experience!

Yelp
I stand corrected! The Blue Goose local restaurants are still family owned. I was told erroneous info. I have been going to Blue Goose myself since the 80's, mainly to he one on lower Greenville and it is outstanding. The Plano one is very good, but sometimes inconsistent on taste, at least to me.

Dipti B.

Yelp
Few points to consider: 1) best quality of food 2) quantity is good for 1-2 people 3) low salt in every meal, lovely 4) price I consider, is cheap $15-18 5) ambience is awesome 6) they make their own tortilla in their restaurant

Yelp
Love going to this place for two dollar margaritas during happy hour all day Tuesdays !! Can get frozen or on the rocks. We got the loaded queso which was HUGE !!! you can share this with literally so many people ! Additionally we got the mixed fajitas for one which is plenty for two people. I wish they had refried beans instead of their charro beans which did not taste good at all and I absolutely love beans. Overall good food and atmosphere. Great patio as well!

Kristen G.

Yelp
As always everything was great. We sat at the bar and had margaritas. I love the spicy margarita. We split the combo fajitas which were cooked to perfection. Service was wonderful and the bartenders work very hard to make sure you are happy b
google avatar

Yelp
Food, service, decor, excellent. I had tri combo plate, (two enchiladas of choice, sizable bowl of house mixed salad, with bowl of baracha beans on side. House made tortillas are the best in Dallas metro. Whole meal $15.

Yelp
Fix The Air Conditioner it has been broken for weeks. We sat down and could feel the heat. Our server was dripping wet in sweat.. We got up and when down the street to Ojeda's forgot how good the food is so much cheaper

Yelp
Blue Goose is always our go-to spot! You cannot beat their daily specials and margaritas! Very nice to be able to join the waitlist online before arriving. Service is always great despite how full the restaurant is. Can't wait for cooler weather and patio season here!

Yelp
I recently went to Blue Goose Cantina with my boyfriend and as soon as we entered, the hostess was very nice and was quick to seat us. We were sat outside and since the sun was setting, the temperature was not too hot. Our server was a tall guy with curly hair and a nose piercing and offered chips and guacamole. At first I thought it was a free app but once I saw the menu, it was $10 for a regular scoop and chips. I know at other Tex-mex they charge for guacamole but the way our server explained it, it seemed like it was a free starter. During our meal, our server barely came to check up on us. There was another male server who was taking care of the whole outside section expect for our table so I figure our server had another section to take care of. Being in the restaurant industry, I understand it's annoying to have a table that's not in your section but it just seemed like he did not want to take care of us at all. I order the combo fajitas and I asked for more pico, not knowing it's extra $1.50 per one refill. Our server did not explain it's extra and even though I only said an extra pico, he brought out two in a cup smaller than those ketchup sauce cups. I didn't even touch the second pico and our bill had two picos charged on it. $3 for two small things of pico is kinda crazy. My boyfriend is usually a generous tipper since he's also been a server and every place we've been to he has tipped at least 18-20%. However, he only tipped around 10% here due to the subpar service and no effort from our server to explain extra costs. The food was fine but if you ever go here and get the same server, ask to be sat in a different section.

Yelp
We always enjoy going to blue goose. Set me up with the fresh tortillas, some queso and their signature Diablo, and I am good to go. My family loves the food. We always have a good time.

Yelp
The new Banana Cocktail drink they have now. Very refreshing I've been here several times and I've had great service. The bartenders are nice & energetic! It's nice place to grab drinks, hangout & have some food. I like when they do change the menu too when it comes few seasonal items. Which is always nice too see. Very nice service every time I've gone. Good happy hour specials Friendly & good service

Yelp
Came by on 2/22 with some friends for $2 margarita Tuesdays and the place was packed! This was my first visit to any BGC in the area and I had a nice experience. Our server was very attentive to our needs and I really enjoyed the 1/2 pound beef fajitas that I ordered. They truly do not skimp on the meat and I was able to pack half of my food to go for later. The beef was super tender, and it cooked perfectly and developed a nice char (along with the onions and peppers!) sizzling on the hot plate it came on. All the accoutrements were fresh and tasty too; love the corn tortillas and the rice and beans as well. Complimentary chips and salsa also great. Would love to come back and try some other things on the very extensive food menu in the future.

Sara T.

Yelp
Not only was food delicious our waiter, Vincent was excellent! He was courteous, attentive, polite, and friendly. He facilitated the ordering process with a large family group for a family member birthday dinner. And helped make it special!! I have nothing but good to say about our experience. The Manager even came over to check on us, personally , to make sure we were happy with our menu items, when one family member got a menu item that was too spicy. All in all excellent! We will be back!

Yelp
Our server was great but the food here is just average. I'm pretty sure my cheese enchiladas were microwaved cause they were very tough to cut through. Food came out fast.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots to grab after work drinks and snacks with friends. Good margaritas, I really enjoyed the hibiscus margarita.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Manager was extremely rude said that we couldn't seat 6 people in a booth that was large enough for 8 and we would have to rewait for another table at the front of the restaurant...people have already ordered drinks... then they refused to serve me and my girlfriend a margarita even tho we were 24 we left immediately. Manger on a weird power trip.

Yelp
A great Tex-Mex restaurant with 7 locations around the DFW area. This review is for the Plano location. I visited with a friend and our kids in tow on a Sunday brunch day. The location offered heated outdoor patio seating which made us comfortable to enjoy dining. To view the menu listings, there is a QR code readily at the table or if you can view it on their webpage. Our wait staff was pleasant and helpful. Patrons were seated at safe distances from each other. And our food came swiftly and tasted delicious. I hope that all of their locations are practicing the safe distancing and their outdoor patio are heated as well. I would like to visit the Frisco location soon!

Yelp
They've taken the Goose out of Blue Goose! I have been going here for over two decades and the Blue Goose of yore is long gone. The nachos don't hit like they used to, the tortillas are no longer thick and fluffy but now crispy and cold, and the atmosphere is trendy instead of unique. What was once a biker bar with skeletons and Día de los Muertos decor is now an Instagrammable neon-sign hot spot. It's boring! The food is still pretty good but it's also more expensive. The service has also gone downhill. Our server was great but the hosts told me they'd text me when our table was ready and then when we peeked inside, everyone had been sat and they "didn't have me on the list." As a former host, rookie mistake! I just haven't been impressed with Blue Goose since they renovated. Maybe if you had never been before that, you'll enjoy it. I think you can get Mexican food made with more love elsewhere.

Ladora H.

Yelp
Great food and the waitress Jo was excellent... She was polite and very attentive to my party of 3. All the food was fresh and hot when received at table. Very pleased.
google avatar

Frank S.

Yelp
We feed our dogs better food than what they serve here. We used to love the Blue Goose on Greenville, then on Midway, and for a little bit here in Plano... until they all went years without any maintenance. We heard this location was remodeled, so after a 10 year hiatus we gave it another try. Total disappointment. We will never be back. If you are young and drunk you might not know better. But if you are neither of these, then you'll never waste a dollar from your wallet or an evening of your life here.
google avatar

Yelp
Love me some BGC! Haven't been here since they renovated and let me tell you, it's noiceee! Great casual dining, great queso and great food. I got a salad last. Wish they were more generous with their meat portion, but I have to keep in mind...i'm not at a brazilian steak house so i'll live. Keep up the good work, Goose!

Yelp
Our food was really yummy. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is casual, open, airy, and colorful. Thank you for a great lunch.

Yelp
Came here with a friend after work and have to say the service is freaking awesome! We specifically came here to chill after a rough day at work with a margarita or two. The margaritas are good, but the ones we had,, Diablo swirls are not worth 10$. At a limit of 2 per person not sure what is special about them. They forgot to add the special. Not sure if that's a good thing or not..... The food is delicious!! Looks like my last visit here was in 2016. I don't remember, but I did leave pictures of that visit. Cool to see what I ate/ordered back in the day! I'd come here again without a doubt. 49/2019

Yelp
I went to blue goose cantina on my lunch break. I received my food very fast, the prices were good for lunch. The downsize was that our waiter had too many tables to take care of and it took some time until we got our bill. And I got the beef quesadilla for my entree and paying 12.00 dollars for six manicured triangles was a bit much. I just feel like the food I received did not justify the price. Maybe I'll try this place again, the vibe was nice. But you can tell that they are being effected by the staffing shortage like many places.

Yelp
Always good food and a fabulous waiter, whose headed off to college. The Bob plate has waaaay too many beans in it and around it. Good street tacos that got better when I added fresh pico and sour cream.
