The Blue moon property was quite a surprise. It’s an old house that has been repurposed into a funky cool spot. Everything was clean. Check in was simple. Communication was great. The bar and music stage was intimate. Just a great place! Mark was great. Friendly and thoughtful. He came by to make sure there were enough blankets bc for Lafayette, it was quite cold. Live music was a neat addition. Had a great stay!

Blue Moon offers a simple but cozy space with a warm, welcoming staff and cute decoration. Amenities are relatively basic but include everything you need. We stayed on a Saturday night and though the music was audible from our room, there wasn’t any significant noise issue. The location is especially convenient as you’re walking distance to downtown Lafayette.

House was clean and neat. We had what we needed in the bathroom and rooms. The way to the bar was great. Awesome atmosphere. Good parking. However the washer did not work, we had to hand wash clothes. However the dryer worked. Would have liked more blankets because it was a chilly night.

Google
What a super cool place to stay. The music was great, you couldn’t ask for a better location. The facility is homey and very not like a hotel - in a very good way. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I liked the common areas as a place to chill during the day.

Popped in here for the Cajun jam session on a Wednesday. Fabulously friendly & unique place. Great music too.

Google
Great location, can’t say enough about what a unique and cool stay this is. Check in and check out are a breeze. The night I was there the saloon had a great band, and all the staff there were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back!!

What a warm, wonderful, unique place! I cant overstate how perfect this place was for us- comfortable, spacious, and very much a part of the community. |The bed was fantastic, with plenty of pillows, MY FAVORITE. Our room was generous sized and full of light, with posters from past Blue Moon music events covering one wall. We had a deck overlooking the yard, where we enjoyed our morning coffee (free, in the kitchen). Downstairs there is also shared spaces-a full kitchen, dining room and living room, with cozy spots everywhere to read or chat. I loved the mismatched cups and plates, and all the tools to make a meal.|The outdoor spaces are incredible- with a back porch bar open in the evenings, its a great place for casual mingling with the locals. We were there for Wednesday Cajun Jam night- and the musicians who showed up were incredible! We loved talking with local people and dancing the two step on the wooden floor.|I mostly valued the informality, warmth and generosity that I felt from the hosts, spaces, clientele and staff. Thank you so much for a memorable stay!!

I love this place! I stayed in The Bird's Nest room. The room has a vintage charm. ||I came to Lafayette specifically to see a band playing at the Artmosphere saloon right across the street from the Blue Moon Saloon. Both places have a wide variety of great bands. ||A couple of nice places to eat are also across the street. So if you want a place to relax in style, listen to great music, and eat well. This is the perfect guest house. ||If you have physical limitations, you should ask specific questions in advance. For the example, the Birds Nest is on the second floor accessed by a very steep and winding staircase. ||I will definitely be back in the future.

Yelp
Pretty much the only spot in town that has live music all night during the week. Was in town on business and there was only one other spot but stopped at 9. Good music, friendly crowd and cheap drinks.

Mike C.

Yelp
Love a guest house/hostel that has a lively saloon with music starting every night at 8. Affordable, clean, spacious, maintained with love and care. We stayed in the 'balcony' room which has the only balcony and it's own private bathroom with dual showers. Downstairs is the communal full kitchen with 2 fridges, large living room and bathrooms and showers. Entry to the house is by code and the rooms have a key. Guest house is virtually contactless. Saloon was great with a well stocked bar. There's no food served. We saw an open mic night and a Cajun jam session. A local, who we never saw, had cooked rice and a potato stew for everyone to enjoy. Second dinner was so damn good. What a treat. If you're comfortable with a hostel style place this is very comfortable and affordable and comes with live entertainment nightly. A real gem in our opinion.

Chris N.

Yelp
Friendly and Welcoming Music performed by local performers who really LOVE jamming together It is pert near perfect!

Melissa D.

Yelp
I had so much fun here. The bar is pretty awesome, especially if you like mixed drinks, and they definitely don't rip you off. The music is awesome the band we saw was incredible! Such a fun, inclusive and great place. I'm so glad we visited!!

Donna B.

Yelp
We went here for a few drinks on our anniversary weekend. I was a nice older to middle age crowd with out the drama. The music was a mix of everything. Drinks were good and the atmosphere was just what we were looking for

Sandra M.

Yelp
Wow! This is understated from the front but a delight once you enter. We arrived in time for the weekly Weds. Cajun Jam on the back porch, which has a bar, dance floor and outdoor garden seating.

Klara M.

Yelp
This is an awesome place with a lot of warmth and cozyness truly unique! Clean and with a friendly owner. What's not to like!

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Fully stoked that places such as this little gem exist. Had a great night of live music, cold beer, and howling out back with strangers. We stayed in the balcony room. Funky and comfortable spot with friendly and helpful staff and owner. Will certainly be back next visit to Lafayette. Thanks Will!

Yelp
Blue Moon was the ultimate host. She made us comfortable, despite having over 20 loud, excited grad students crammed into the house...She helped us get to know Louisiana and the trajedy of the Rita and Katrina...She showed us what Zydeco is and how to dance to it... ...basically she showed us a great time and welcomed us to Louisiana. If you're ever visiting people at LSU or wanting a true southern experience, get a room at Blue Moon or a drink at the bar and meet the locals that are always there.

Brian C.

Yelp
I didn't stay at the Guesthouse but the place seemed nice overall and the only concern would be music until early in the morning which I presume might make it difficult to sleep. The music however is very fun - Wednesdays are jam night (although it was moved to Tuesday during the week of Thanksgiving) and the music seems to start around 9:00 despite the advertisements stating 8:00. They also have music on Fridays & Saturdays - just be aware that the music and bar are outdoors (but covered) so when it's cold either get there early to camp out under a space heater or wear warm clothes. The bar has just about anything you would want and while drinks are definitely pricey the music is free so it roughly evens out. I definitely expect to be back on my next visit to Lafayette, Blue Moon is a cool little local joint with a great vibe.

Marilyn T.

Yelp
I guess it just depends on who shows up. We've heard so much about the jams we took some international guest and others from out of town. We got there just after 9 to find no one playing and very few people there. Around 10:30 a couple more people showed up but they were having a difficult time getting anything going. Next time it's important we will find a scheduled band somewhere.

Betty Ann W.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped into the Blue Moon Saloon to listen to some live music on a Saturday night. The guy at the door was very surly and demanded a $20 cover charge. It seemed steep but we paid and were given white wrist bands. We started noticing that none of the people who came in after us had to pay the cover. The band was really boring, so we drank a beer and walked out. We asked the doorman why we were the only ones who had to pay. He became really belligerent and started screaming curses at me. We were just passing through town and didn't want to have police problems, so we left. What a complete dump this place is, not to mention the most inhospitable place we've ever been to. Avoid this place like the plague!

August T.

Yelp
The Blue Moon saloon and Inn is a great spot for drinks, live music, and socializing with friends.

Curt C.

Yelp
Awesome Zydeco roadhouse bar/hostel! This is the epicenter for the zydeco and Cajun music scene in Lafayette. This place has an awesome stage area inside that allows for a great place to catch a band. There's a small dance floor, and an intimate setting for seeing the bands play. The whole place is lit with neon beer signs. They serve a wide variety of local beers, including craft beers and the regular cheap stuff. The bartenders were helpful in recommending local beers to suit my palate. There was a cover on the night that we went, which was steep, but we got to see a Grammy winning band, which was pretty sweet. There are a variety of places to hang out, from the wide, sweeping porch of the hostel, to the stage are, and a large patio area. Two bars make getting the drinks easy. The place is surprisingly clean for how busy it gets. The restrooms all share a sink, so we all can see when you don't wash your hands! If you take in too much of the Lafayette hospitality, they can rent you a room here in the hostel. I don't think this place is ADA compliant, with lots of steps to get around.

Sandy D.

Yelp
Incredible venue and mood! Great bands and the beer is ice cold. Best place during the week to see incredible local jazz blues and rock bands. Outdoor venue and outside area to relax. I go every chance I get to see Hank and the Cupcakes!

Tammy H.

Yelp
Great music place, friendly staff. Did not eat or stay there, but definitely want to next time

Elena L.

Yelp
Best bar for Cajun jamming, Acadian atmosphere and great local beer! Also enjoyed amazing home-made jambalaya (donations appreciated, so bring cash! You will want to taste it!), and spoke with really cool folks around the dance floor! Just! Perfect!

Carrie M.

Yelp
We're from Austin and in town for five nights. We came to the Saloon on a Sunday evening. A band was getting set up and we were the only patrons. Zeek (not sure of spelling) was our bartender and he was awesome. He's really smart and a great conversationalist. We intended to only have one drink, but felt bad because the band was just getting started and we were having such a great conversation with Zeek. We ended up staying for another drink. The prices were very reasonable and the service was awesome. I would definitely recommend coming here, especially if Zeek is bartending.

Gary P.

Yelp
Had an issue prior and owner reached out to correct issue. Thank you. Great follow up and customer service.

Chris W.

Yelp
Fun vibe, cute rooms, the atmosphere outside can get fairly rowdy (though, well-controlled.) Many places probably couldn't get away with such a mishmash of elements, upscale hostel-y in the common areas, but the private rooms are quiet enough when there's no live music outside. Chances are you could hit up any chain motel along the road if you we looking for quiet, anyway. My only complaint would be that the surrounding area seems to close fairly early at night, and on Sundays. May have just been the eateries I was looking for, though. Cheap rooms, drinks, free entertainment, an excellent repeat stop whenever i'm in the vicinity!

Jessica R.

Yelp
This is an amazingly cool multi-tasking - or hybrid, if you will - business that can't decide if it's first and foremost a hostel/guest house, music venue, or bar. Okay, I take that back. They probably know exactly what they are; I'm the one who can't decide if it's a hostel with a music venue, or if it's a music venue where you can sleep if you want. Either way, it's a really, really, reallllllly cool place, and if you're in Lafayette definitely go check out a show. I've seen some amazing music there, like a rockabilly band from Austin (it seems that most of the artists I've seen have been from out of town) and even though I just barely missed it, I know Dick Dale played there at one point. How cool is that? In fact, if you're not already in or planning to be in Lafayette, why not use Blue Moon as an excuse to go. You have somewhere to stay! The prices range from like $18-20 a night to...oh, I don't know, maybe $100 or less, and the accommodations range from a bunk with a dozen other loudly snoring (bring earplugs!) strangers, to your very own room, which I imagine is nice, but I've never seen it, so don't quote me on that. You can cook in the gigantic kitchen, and you get a free drink at the bar with your stay. There's a huge porch that people hang out and jam on, and overall this place just has a super chill, hipster without trying too hard (and probably therefore not actually hipster, but you know what I mean) vibe. It's also possible to rent out the entire place (pricing is for overnight accommodations, not the bar/stage/venue half) for something like $2,500. I know this because at one point I was trying to plan an epic road trip (via train!) from here to Lafayette with a bunch of NOLA tech people. Didn't actually happen, but would still be amazing. Want to have a fabulous and affordable mini-vacation, right here in our own state? Take the train to Lafayete ($18 each way) and stay in the Blue Moon Saloon and Guesthouse ($18-80 a night). You'll love it. I promise. (If you don't, clearly you have questionable taste. Just sayin'.)

Yelp
I ended up here purely by accident as I was doing some work in the area and all the hotel rooms had been booked by repair crews right after a storm. My room reservation had been cancelled because of the need for repairs and this was the only location I could find a place to stay. I ended up in one of the the "hostel" rooms of shared bunk beds which would have been ok on a fun trip but the lack of private space was a bit challenging for work. The rooms were also very noisy (as the bands play late into the night) BUT being a person that can have fun I just rolled with the punches and stayed up to listen to the band, party, and drank enough to pass out despite the noise. This is a great place to stay for fun times and I have returned on several pleasure trips rather than work trip to enjoy myself here and this is certainly a great place for that (not so great if you have to wake up early for work though!). I stayed in some of the private rooms and those were pretty cool but still noisy so expect to stay up having fun til the bands are done. Really great music and great people having a good time!

Clarice W.

Yelp
First things first: to clarify, the Blue Moon Saloon is ALSO a hostel. So don't be surprised when you drive through a neighborhood to what looks like a house! We arrived earlier in the evening so we did not have a chance to hear the live music, but I liked the atmosphere immediately. It has an artsy, down-to-earth vibe and I could see it being a great place to chill at night. No beers on tap, but there is a decent selection of bottled beers and the bartender was cool and helpful when we wanted to try some local beers. The Blue Moon Saloon is what I imagined Lafayette, LA to be - folksy, unassuming, and fun.

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Visited during Festival International. Place was packed. Had the best night of my life! Crowd was laid back and the music was great! I was a little tipsy and ended up bumping a guy and spilling both of our drinks everywhere. In Nashville if this had happened, he probably would have cussed me out. Here, he was super understanding, and actually paid to replace both drinks. I highly recommend this place, and will return very soon.

Jean-Paul V.

Yelp
Very boho and just what I needed. A hot shower and a place to crash on the cheap with wifi and nightly live music. I would totally stay here again. For the price, 5 stars. The amenities, 2. Location, 3. All in all, just what you need, if your needs are simple. Or as a friend put it "This place seems very relaxing."

Lauren S.

Yelp
I only went here once, but it was so much fun! Such a refreshing experience that definitely sticks out in my memories of the South. I'd never experienced nightlife like this. Cajun/Zydeco/Two step, whatever-you-call-it dancing is so freaking fun I was laughing and smiling all night! And the Blue Moon is the perfect venue for a Zydeco band. So rustic, twangy and awesomely fantastic! I was terrible at dancing all Zydeco like everyone was, but it didn't matter I joined right in on the dance floor and giggled as I attempted to keep up step with my dance partners. I didn't stay here, but I went to the concert by myself (and met up with someone I had never met), and by the end of the night I felt like everyone was my friend. Such awesome people who make you feel at home. If you are looking for that "Cajun" music experience, looking for a whole new way to dance and looking to have the best night of your life then go to the Blue Moon.

Tony W.

Yelp
Coolest place i've been in a bit... I wouldn't book a room however the saloon was awesome! Great music, great crowd, cool atmosphere... A must see location when in town...

Christian J.

Yelp
I'm from out of town and went here for my one night out for the "free J Burton Show" and left at 945 after I was told the show would start at 9. There wasn't as much as a sound check. It was just me and maybe 5 other people. I had to wait 5 minutes to order a drink while the bartender told a story to someone as I obviously waited. Very disappointing.

Music Fan L.

Yelp
On the scale of One through Five on the Funky Meter, the Blue Moon comes in a solid funky 5. Fun place.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Blue Moon Saloon is one of the best Lafayette has to offer! I love coming here when I am in town and even more so when I lived here. Coming to listen to various music acts was and still is a great time! I've heard cajun, Zydeco, French, rock, reggae, country, swamp pop, etc. etc. There is always live music and a place to dance! They layout is part of the charm too. A converted house into a bar and guest house is genius! You won't be able to get a room during the festivals Lafayette hosts unless you book it far in advance. Fair warning!

A D.

Yelp
More of a covered patio bar than a bar, if that makes sense. I was initially confused about the setup. Good music, drinks, atmosphere, and comfortable seating unless the floor is packed! The couples dancing are fun to watch. Ask for a Jameson hot toddy. I'd be in attendance more often if the cover wasn't $10 for every event, but I've heard business wasn't what it used to be. Thanks for being one venue that attracts folk music to the area!

Skinny Coach u.

Yelp
We we're passing through on a Wednesday. Cajun jam night. Lots of dancing - great music - and fun dancing. We met people from Scotland to Minnesota to Australia- all on the out door porch of this bar/hangout

Naveed B.

Yelp
This place is really cool. It is both a saloon and a guest house. You can stay here for $18.00 a night if I was told correctly. I've never stayed here so I can't comment on the quality of the accommodations. Regardless, this place is pretty great. They have very diverse live shows, from indie to music to zydeco. The bar area is really just a covered area and is open on the sides. It has a "back porch" type of feel to it. There is also a nice lounging area opposite the bar or if you want you can hang out on the patio of the guest house. This is a great place to grab a drink and chill. I've gone here a few times with my friends and they have all loved it. Also the bartenders are very nice.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
A great place to stay if you love honkytonks, hanging out with musicians and drinking & dancing. They offer hostel type lodging. We stayed in the birds nest room which was charming and the bed was comfy enough. Very interesting and friendly people stay and work there.

Hayley L.

Yelp
Very cool honky tonk bar, and hostel apparently. We stopped by on a Friday for some live music and were not disappointed. Great crowd and there's a covered patio in the back if you need a break. The bartenders are characters and add to the very chill vibe. Great local hang out.

Michael H.

Yelp
Really nice Cosy place to stay. Clean rooms and facilities. The bar next door it not load at nights but definitely worth a visit. Been there on Thursday and there is a music jsm. Everybody is allowed to join. Really A+++

Jared M.

Yelp
This place is incredible. The sound is spot on and the staff is very friendly. There is a hostel that is very affordable. For about $20 you have a clean safe place to sleep so you dont have to worry about driving drunk. Highly recommended!

Clément G.

Yelp
Excellent guesthouse. Friendly, mellow, cheap and comfortable. My brother and I have been to many guesthouses around the world (Latin America, Asia and Europe) and we both agree that Blue Moon is, by far, our favorite. You can meet very interesting people there, many musicians stay for the night to perform in the same premisses... If you sleep there, the concert is free of charge.

Kimberly H.

Yelp
The best laid back atmosphere. The place feels like a house party every time I've been there. Also a perfect place to bring guests from out of town if you wanna go out but don't have the room to spare.

KD H.

Yelp
This place is awesome if you like warm hospitality and great music. I can't wait to go back!

Tommy S.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere and a great place to listen to your favorite local band. Drinks are reasonably priced and once you break the seal you may have a wait for the restroom because there's only two restrooms with only one toilet each.

Art A.

Yelp
Amazing. One of the best bars in the country. Really! Phenomenal music...Cajun with a dash of Zydeco... Cheap beer, fantastic mix of locals and out of town music lovers. It's a destination all by itself. My only regret is that I didn't stay at the guesthouse and only came or the music. What was I thinking!

D T.

Yelp
Fun music venue with a pretty decent beer selection. I did not stay here, but spent a few hours dancing some Zydeco to Jeffery Broussard. Love it!

A C.

Yelp
This review is only for the Guesthouse. The place was far from clean, after one night there I had flea bites (yikes!), the towels smell bad and the bed was uncomfortable. On the positive side, the common areas in the first floor (kitchen, living room) were welcoming and good to hang out and make friends.

Renee B.

Yelp
A favorite place to crash while in town. Ice cold beer on the porch, live music, and dancing. Give me a bottle of Blue Moon with a slice of orange and some Cajun/Zydeco at the Blue Moon any night.
