This is an amazingly cool multi-tasking - or hybrid, if you will - business that can't decide if it's first and foremost a hostel/guest house, music venue, or bar. Okay, I take that back. They probably know exactly what they are; I'm the one who can't decide if it's a hostel with a music venue, or if it's a music venue where you can sleep if you want.
Either way, it's a really, really, reallllllly cool place, and if you're in Lafayette definitely go check out a show. I've seen some amazing music there, like a rockabilly band from Austin (it seems that most of the artists I've seen have been from out of town) and even though I just barely missed it, I know Dick Dale played there at one point. How cool is that?
In fact, if you're not already in or planning to be in Lafayette, why not use Blue Moon as an excuse to go. You have somewhere to stay! The prices range from like $18-20 a night to...oh, I don't know, maybe $100 or less, and the accommodations range from a bunk with a dozen other loudly snoring (bring earplugs!) strangers, to your very own room, which I imagine is nice, but I've never seen it, so don't quote me on that.
You can cook in the gigantic kitchen, and you get a free drink at the bar with your stay. There's a huge porch that people hang out and jam on, and overall this place just has a super chill, hipster without trying too hard (and probably therefore not actually hipster, but you know what I mean) vibe. It's also possible to rent out the entire place (pricing is for overnight accommodations, not the bar/stage/venue half) for something like $2,500. I know this because at one point I was trying to plan an epic road trip (via train!) from here to Lafayette with a bunch of NOLA tech people. Didn't actually happen, but would still be amazing.
Want to have a fabulous and affordable mini-vacation, right here in our own state? Take the train to Lafayete ($18 each way) and stay in the Blue Moon Saloon and Guesthouse ($18-80 a night). You'll love it. I promise. (If you don't, clearly you have questionable taste. Just sayin'.)
