Best Breakfast Restaurants in Boston | Eater Boston

"Blue Mountain — now in new digs on Blue Hill Avenue — is one of the city’s top destinations for classic Jamaican breakfast fare, including ackee and saltfish, and callaloo, a flavorful mix of stewed greens. Pair any order with banana porridge and a couple of flaky patties to round out the meal." - Nathan Tavares

Four Top Boston Restaurants For Southern, Jamaican, Haitian, and Cape Verdean Cuisines | Eater Boston

"A compact, affordable Mattapan spot showcasing classic Jamaican flavors with an emphasis on bold spice; the ackee and saltfish is a must-try and a popular breakfast item, while lunch and dinner offerings range from a gentle stewed chicken for the spice-averse to heat-forward dishes like Rasta Pasta and sweet-and-spicy chicken. The jerk chicken hits a balanced level of heat, and snacks like beef patties with soft, sweet coco bread or a slice of carrot cake are reliable crowd-pleasers. Most plates come with consistent sides such as sweet plantains or rice and peas (notably made with red kidney beans), and the menu pairs well with soothing options like Tropical Rhythms juice. Many items are priced so you can eat well for under $20, and the restaurant is open for takeout and delivery through multiple apps." - Eater

"2019 was something of a banner year for Jamaican restaurant openings in Boston (see also: Only One, Golden Krust, and Jamaica Mi Hungry.) This Mattapan restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and its menu includes various curries, soups, stews, jerk chicken, and ackee and saltfish, which is a sauteed dish made with boiled ackee, salt cod, and various vegetables and aromatics." - Terrence Doyle

Being from Queens, NY, I’m always in search of good ethnic foods, Jamaican food being one of the cuisines. Stopped by Blue Mountain and we were greeted by Michael, the owner with a huge smile and warm welcome. The food smelled so good. We tried the Jerk Chicken, Oxtail stew, Chicken stew and beef patty. Also had the rice and beans, cabbage and plantains. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Jerk chicken was nice and spicy. Portions were very generous so we had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. His wife Marcia also came out to greet us and we told her how much we enjoyed the food. Nice clean place as this new location has been open since Nov 2024. We’ll definitely be back to try the curry chicken and goat, beef stew and salmon.

Omg I can’t get enough of them I’ve gone to almost 8 different Jamaican places in Boston and one they are overpriced and just disgusting this place is not only affordable but there food is amazingly exquisite! The meat is so soft and tender the food is seasoned to perfection the rice is soo damn good I can eat it alone! The hospitality is phenomenal they are the best in Boston for sure!

The food was delicious. The oxtail with rice & beans was a good size (Medium). The portions could have been less on rice, more on vegetables. The patty with coco bread was cooked well and tasted delicious also. The Service was great!

Went to get some chicken patties and after leaving the restaurant, I saw the patties were undercooked. So I went back to tell the lady who served me and she said they were cooked and to just take a bite…I know what uncooked dough is..this is not done. I was expecting an apology at least but nah. Hope they learn and treat the next customers better.

Pretty good food considering I came in for a patty w coco bread across the street but it was closed (where I’ve been going for decades). The Mac & cheese was so good!! The chicken also flavorful. Id come bk just for that. Patty w coco bread also quite flavorful but not too spicy. Delish!!

I'd been thinking about returning to Boston. This spot was at the top of my list. I'm 💔 to see that they're temporarily closed. I hope this review makes the owner(s) feel good and help them consider reopening. I came here for breakfast and they didn't disappoint! I was full for most of the rest of the day. I ordered ackee and salt fish on coco bread, beef patty, porridge (regular; didn't have banana), and a drink. Everything was fresh and delicious. It was my first time having porridge. The more I ate, the better it tastes. I ended up taking quite a bit to go. I was the only customer in the restaurant initially, but people started coming in as I ate. I could tell they were regulars. This restaurant was one of my best memories of Boston. I'll be checking in hopes that they'll reopen.

The hype is REAL! The owner came out to check on us and make sure everything was going well, such a warm and thoughtful touch. The customer service was top-notch and made the experience even better. Now the food… absolutely delicious. The stew chicken was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The jerk chicken and rice had the perfect amount of spice, and the beef patty was flaky, flavorful, and unforgettable. From the hospitality to the mouthwatering food, this place is a 10/10. Can’t wait to go back!
