"Blue Ribbon Sushi has been around since 1995 in NYC, and we’re thrilled it’s landed in Boston. The new location is a big, minimalist wood-covered room with a long sushi bar that you’ll want a seat at for a cozy date. You’ll see nigiri you don’t always find in the city, like Japanese red snapper and amberjack, along with an excellent, splurgy roll made with a half lobster, caviar, and shiso that’s always worth ordering." - tanya edwards

It is such a wonderful place and the food is delicious here. When I say I’ve never tasted any better sushi, I mean it. The salmon basically melted in my mouth and the avocado was perfect. The drinks here are also delicious. I had a passion fruit cocktail and it was amazing!!

Google
The ambiance at Blue Ribbon Sushi was nice, and the service was decent, but the food and drinks didn’t live up to expectations. The sushi didn’t taste as fresh as it should for a place with this reputation, and the cocktails were disappointing—poorly balanced and not well-made. For the price, I expected much better quality.

Google
Always delicious at Blue Ribbon Sushi. I think above all else I’m blown away by the hospitality. When you get a chance to visit, try the Ka cocktail (if you can handle slight spice in a marg), the CRISPY TUNA RICE, and the spicy crab roll - DIVINE!

Google
GREAT place to wind down after a heavy day, or to grab great sushi for a quick lunch. Their sushi was extremely high quality and super tasty! They have a good proportion of protein to rice and the breadth of their selection is excellent. The lychee martini is now my favorite martini! They have a good selection of bourbon, gin, whiskey, tequila and rum as well. The waitstaff is attentive and very well versed in their menu. The ambiance is also top notch! Prices seemed very fair and inline with other places in the area. All in all i ate here 4 times in 2 days =).

Google
First time visiting and I was blown away. The ambience is amazing. Service was top notch and the server’s recommendations were excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the wagyu, dumplings, and every piece of sushi. Was pleasantly surprised that the creme brûlée was actually matcha flavored. Looking forward to going back!

Words cannot simply express how fantastic this place is!!

Google
Flynn’s service went above and beyond. From helping us get familiar with the menu to impeccable recommendations, he made us feel at home and extremely taken care of. The food was the best seafood I have had in a long time. The ambiance was cozy and unique. We will definitely be back. Thank you again Flynn and honestly all the staff we encountered tonight!

Yelp
A good sushi place 680 dollars including tips for 4 ppl, they don't have omakase during lunch but they still made one for us as, service is pretty good too.

Yelp
Went here with friends and food was great, although it felt a bit rushed. The kitchen was extremely efficient so as soon as anything was done the next was brought out. I would've loved a bit more relaxed service but not a big deal just a reminder to make your own pauses here. My group of 6 was in and out in an hour. Sushi was great quality and a stand out was the crispy rice with salmon, very good! Cocktails were also delicious and strong.

Yelp
Two words I can describe Blue Ribbon Sushi,... DELICIOUS & FRESH! We got the salmon tartare, three maki rolls, an assortment of sashimi including uni, toro, salmon, as well as hamachi, and lychee martinis! The Lychee martini was simply divine and they were not light handed when making it. All of the fish was super fresh! The rolls that they offer here are on the simpler side, however, they were made with perfection-- perfect amount of filling in one bite. Location wise, it was kind of tricky for us to find, as we got confused with the Brasserie right next door but we were able to locate it quickly. Our server was super kind, helpful, and attentive. The restaurant is beautiful inside and had a nice, chill vibe to it. They are on the pricier/upscale side but the meal was worth it!

Yelp
I had a good afternoon experience here! It's a comfy, relaxing, dim underground environment, I felt a little sleepy at first. The miso soup was fancier than other places, with paste on the side for me to mix in. It comes with a good amount of veggies, bean sprouts and seaweed salad. Sprouts were a little too spicy for me. The salmon ikura bowl had more fish than rice, which is the ratio I like. The waiter saw me taking photos for yelp and offered me a free Sakura mocktail that they have not released yet, as well as mango and strawberry mochidoki ice cream for me to try! Very generous. The drink was a sour lychee flavor with a sugar rim and smelled pleasantly floral. The mochi had a soft thick exterior and creamy interior. I wish the ice cream was more strong in flavor. My only other disappointment would be the green tea that was too bland.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Sushi deluxe platter was extremely worth it. Cuts of fish were so buttery and thick. Great pieces that had really nice flavor. A nice variety as well. Takeout order placement was quick and easy. The edamame was really over steamed though which is the only reason for 4 stars.

Yelp
Had high hopes for Blue Ribbon Boston since I've been to Blue Ribbon LA, and it opened up fairly recently in the city. Blue Ribbon is a fairly well-known establishment in LA, NY, Vegas, and now Boston. Loved my time and company here, but food was overrated in my opinion. You might want to check out the sushi restaurant next door for better value. Evidently, Blue Ribbon was empty whereas the sushi restaurant next door had long lines. Stacy, our waitress, on the other hand, was super kind and helpful! I appreciated her service. The interior was finished with wood. Simple, modern, and elegant. Great date spot! For appetizers, we each had miso soup (14) & the Yaki sea scallop with miso butter (16) which was tiny. One interesting thing with the miso soup was that you can customize it. And then came the sushi-sashimi combination (51) with Blue Ribbon roll (28) and otoro nigiri (36), which was also very underwhelming. I'm sure it was pricey but we weren't even full and the blue ribbon roll was actually disappointing in terms of taste. I didn't know lobster and caviar could ever be so tasteless. I may have inadvertently expected too much from the signature blue ribbon roll as it's named after the restaurant. Otoro was probably my favorite out of the entire meal, but you can't go wrong with toro! I wish I could recommend a standout signature dish from here, but sadly, I myself won't be returning for the food.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Blue Ribbon is my go to birthday dinner spot and it has never failed me. We've ordered so much off the menu that this review would be way too long... I'll make it short. Blue Ribbon is a fairly new restaurant in the sushi biz. The interior is very well decorated, dimly lit and comfortable. The sushi is à la carte which makes your bill very expensive, but the quality is unmatched. The otoro is extremely fresh and light, almost like they caught it straight from the ocean 10 minutes before. One thing that I always get is the shishito peppers. Their crisp is unmatched, perfectly salted with just the right amount of spice . The cocktails are interesting and creative. Most of them have Japanese elements with a twist. Delicious! I have tried other sushi places for my birthday dinner, but i always want to go back to Blue Ribbon.

Yelp
Full disclosure, I didn't order any sushi, as I was just doing a to-go order and wasn't in the mood for it. However, given how good the non-fish items were, I will certainly come back to sample the main side of the menu. The beef filet was cooked to perfection, even in a takeout container. One might assume that the steak option would be an afterthought at a sushi spot, but that would be incorrect here. The beef meatball app was almost as tender, and seasoned well. I think the two truffle sauces weren't very successful - they were a bit bitter, but neither dish really needed it. Also, the chicken wings were dope - almost bonchon style crisp level.

Haoyang Z.

Yelp
Authentic Nigiri, fast serving, dim light environment and bright sushi bar. In a nice location right next to Boston University school district.

Paulina P.

Yelp
This place is super aesthetic! You can come casually but it would be a nice date spot. Service was amazing! He constantly cleared the table and was always there when we needed. Very attentive. The food was decent. The cucumber sunomono wasn't bad but the flavor wasn't super special. The Hamachi kama was delicious!! Would recommend to get it! Crispy Rice is supposedly popular but I think the sauce was a bit too overpowering. The texture of the dish was nice though. The sushi was pretty good! Didn't taste super fishy but the rice could've used more vinegar imo. For dressert, we got green tea creme brulee. It was soo yummy!!! Overall 4/5! Not a bar spot and the sushi was decent.

Allison B.

Yelp
Simply amazing cocktails, saki, sushi, sashimi and other Japanese dishes. We went for a bite at the sushi bar before seeing Echo & the Bunnymen play around the corner at the House of Blues. If there is one food I could eat for the rest of my life, Japanese is it and this place didn't disappoint. Go try it for yourself!

Charlie F.

Yelp
Not sure what happened but the restaurant's quality has been elevated since the last time we dined here, which was about a year ago, and have been back twice after that. Would have to say that quality of the preparation of the sushi rolls and handrolls have dramatically improved. As a chain, this is good news for this location since we've always wanted to return and find out how things were and we have been happy with our overall experience.

Yelp
Overall, tasty and fresh fish, attentive service, but it is definitely pricey. They have real wasabi which is pretty rare to see in Boston! Crispy rice (25$) was highly recced by the waitress, but I didn't really enjoy the crisp. It gets stuck in the teeth and felt more like "hard rice at the bottom of the pot" than crisp. Popcorn shrimp (24$) was a bit fishy, but otherwise quite nice. Mixed sunomono (17$) was tasty. The quantity here was a bit small for a shared appetizer, so might be more appropriate for 1-2 people. Blue Ribbon special ($300 / 5 people) was a lot of food! Some of the fish were misses (I think the eel was a bit mealy and I didn't enjoy the lobster roll), but some were quite good (the shrimp and the tuna stand out). They cut their sashimi in HUGE chunks: difficult to eat in one bite, but does make the price feel a bit more justified. I liked the food, but I'm not sure it's worth the price to me personally.

Trish L.

Yelp
Professional and attentive service, cozy and stylish interior, top-notch sushi and an excellent steak for our one non-fish fan. A great place to celebrate our son's graduation!

Megan Y.

Yelp
Came here tonight for a pre-Red Sox game dinner! We got the lychee martini, cauliflower tempura, chef's choice sushi with blue crab CA roll, a full blue crab CA roll and dragon roll. The drinks were great, and sushi was pretty good (although there was a slight strange taste to the rolls). The cauliflower was probably the least favorite. The batter was very light, but the sauce was a bit strange and I'm not sure it went well with the fritters. Nonetheless, a very popular spot near Fenway with good ambience and attentive service!

Kim N.

Yelp
We had a dinner reservation for 8 people. Arrived and table was ready - nice start. The space is mostly underground but you don't feel it. Very nice ambiance. For what we wanted to eat, it ran the bill up into the hundreds but I have to say it was one of the best sushi meals we have ever had. And we've spent 10 days in Japan along with having tried many sushi spots here so we feel we are in a good position to judge. There are a few cheaper options on the menu but save some money so you can splurge here. You won't be disappointed!

Dave B.

Yelp
Unlike every other sushi restaurant you have ever ordered from, this restaurant gives you one piece per order. And if you are looking on their menu for where they tell you that, they don't.

Ai Y.

Yelp
We had a great Friday night dining experience here!! Modest street-facing exterior leads down to a sophisticated yet cozy interior with back-lit wooden panels and prominent sushi bar. We were tempted by nearly everything on the menu, which had a huge variety of fish, including some you typically won't find at other sushi restaurants. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the chefs prepare our sashimi platter and sushi/sashimi combo platter. The freshness and flavors did not disappoint! Also enjoyed the yuzu lemonade, which was light and refreshing. Service was quick and efficient. Looking forward to coming back, next time with friends and family!! :)

Yelp
I had an amazing evening at Blue Ribbon Sushi on 500a Commonwealth Ave in Boston near Kenmore Square Blue Ribbon Restaurants are recognized  by many leading culinary institutions and publications including Zagat Survey, the James Beard Foundation, the Michelin Guide, Wine Spectator, Gourmet, and CitySearch. They also source the highest quality fish and make everything from their soy sauce to ponzu in-house. Some of my favorite cocktails/dishes of the evening include the Ka cocktail which contains tequila, yuzu, vanilla, lime, habanero, li hing Salt. For appetizers you have to try the Crispy Rice which was spicy tuna with avocado and truffle eel sauce. Also, the Uni Wagyu Toast was incredible and melted in my mouth. Some of the best sushi rolls of the evening were the Blue Ribbon roll which contained lobster , shiso & black caviar. As well as the Dragon Eel roll which contained avocado & radish sprouts. To end the evening we had a green tea Crème Brûlée. This was so tasty and I honestly regret not ordering another one to take home with me. This place is worth coming to! If you are a lover of sushi you will fall in love with this place. Overall Rating: Food: 10/10 Affordability: 5/10 Ambiance: 9/10

Rachel W.

Yelp
The food here was very good, it was a unique spin on sushi, a lot of things on the menu that we had never heard of. The crispy rice was very delicious but very spicy, lips were on fire, but I am sensitive to spice. The shrimp roll was only 4 rolls but with other things it was filling, however I believe it was $18 for that. Overall food was great but very overpriced. The waitresses were all very very nice and the atmosphere was nice and would make a great date spot. Because of the price we wouldn't rush back.

Joyce K.

Yelp
Wow this place is NICE. I'm not a huge sushi person myself, but one of my friends loves sushi and recommended this spot to celebrate a birthday. To start, we got their sushito peppers and cauliflower tempura, which had great flavors. For sushi, the star of the show was their spicy tuna crispy rice sushi, which is a Blue Ribbon special - I've never had sushi where the rice is hot and crispy, but it really added to the texture and flavor. We also got several individual orders of sashimi ($7-9 per piece), but I think the better value would be to get the platters ($38 for 12 pieces) unless there is a particular type of sashimi that might not be on the platter. We also got the chicken teriyaki since someone in our group doesn't like raw fish, and it was surprisingly good (very moist and flavorful). All in all, a yummy and memorable meal - it's on the pricier side but was a great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Zaraid J.

Yelp
Flavors - 3.5 Textures - 4.5 Presentation - 3.5 Value for money - 2.5 Would return? No In a nutshell, this place has decent sushi but it's completely overpriced. The Yaki Sea Scallop was probably the best thing I had, which costs $16 and has TWO scallops. They come in a Miso butter sauce that is ridiculously good, and the scallops were well-cooked. The Crispy Rice has a better value for money and it is also good. It comes with spicy tuna on top and an eel truffle sauce, but I couldn't taste the truffle anywhere. PROtip - dip this in the miso butter sauce from the previous dish. Then I had one of the sushi platters and added the Blue Ribbon roll (which has lobster and caviar). The sushi was fresh, but nothing special. The Blue Ribbon roll was really really good, very unique. I couldn't taste the caviar but the combination of flavors was fantastic. Oh, and the Spicy Cucumber we good as well.

Nancy H.

Yelp
The octopus was nothing special. It tasted like it sounds, just octopus with vinegar over it. I usually don't like sushi but the sushi here tasted fresh and clean. It was quite expensive but worth trying. Staff was nice and attentive. The place itself looked very dim and romantic. Be sure to make a reservation beforehand!

Gia H.

Yelp
The ambiance is lovely - slightly dark, not too loud, perfect for a romantic evening. The service was slow, but understandable since it was very busy. Regarding the food, everything was good, but nothing was amazing. The quality of the salmon served on the sashimi platter was better than that served on the combination platter.

Alee L.

Yelp
After having some revolting sushi in LA, and coming back to Boston; my first meal back is at Blue Ribbon Sushi. There was a location in LA at the farmers market but opted to go to Monsieur Marcel instead. However, I knew there was a location in Boston so it is all good. I think this is my new place to come for sushi. The meal I had was outstanding. From the mixed sunomono and the wings to the sushi and sashimi combo was amazing. The fish is fresh and the maki rolls are plenty filled and tasted delicious and fresh. I'd love to come back very soon because there are many more items I'd love to try.

John K.

Yelp
This place feels upscale, walking in it feels as if there should be a dress code. Not because its pretentious, but just because its well organized, dimly lit, and stoic. Now to the food its very good sushi, huge fan of the crispy rice with tuna and their house roles. Also ask the friendly staff for some of there great wine selections, or just go with a classic sapparo.

Peter C.

Yelp
While the staff is awesome and the ambience is perfect, the food unfortunately falls short. I may have been spoiled by some other sushi spots in the local area, so that's my fault. That being said, don't believe the hype. This is a 3 star sushi spot. Despite the hype this place gets, it definitely isn't worth the price on each piece of fish. The sushi and sashimi are priced the same and only for 1 piece each. The price for a single piece is the same you might pay at some better places where you receive 2. There's a definite discrepancy between price and quality here. I guess that's called value. I would say it wasn't a good value. I either want to pay more for best quality or pay less for more quantity. Staff was awesome. Place is clean. Lighting is mysterious. General setup is pleasant. So many good things about this place, but the food isn't enough to make me return. Overall disappointed in the value. It's not a terrible place by any means. The sad part is there's a place across the street that I think is so much better.

Lexi G.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the cozy ambiance and attentive service at Blue Ribbon. Although very expensive, I enjoyed the food that I received. We had a few drinks at the bar since we were early for our reservation. I would return, especially for a special occasion dinner.

Riverside O.

Yelp
was in the area, did not plan on going to BR Sushi. Did not look at prices before I entered. Was a bit in shock and the absurd prices, however, I figured Ok this should be top level. I have no problem paying these types of prices, however, it needs to be worth it. I did not go in there when kitchen was raging, but I had sashimi straight up with a side of plain white rice and miso soup. Average at best. Lived and traveled extensively overseas & was raised in NYC and trained in the culinary arts, this was a real disappointment, especially for the price. 18$ for (1) piece of Belly Tuna. Where do they think we are Luxembourg or Niece. I've had better meals from Big Y Supermarket sushi. Miso was not very good, even with the little plate of miso they provide to mix into the water. What is the point if it tastes horrible. In all if it was any good i would have gone back possibly even with the absurdly rude prices. But it just wasn't worth it, not by a long shot. I would of had a better meal and the all you can eat buffet next door for a fraction of the price. If you want to impress a date by spending a fortune on bad food with a pretentious flare, this is your place. Im sure this place has some nice dishes. But the meal I had of just sashimi should of been top level, no matter if the kitchen was lit up or not. The Fluke which I normally don't eat was excellent and was the best fish on the plate. All else was quite mediocre, unfortunately.

J. H.

Yelp
Service: Excellent! Fast, attentive and nice! Ambiance: Modern chic vibes and decor! (Minor complaint was the booth seat against the blue decor wall was a bit wobbly and not super comfortable.) Food: Fresh and wide selection from raw to steak options. Good flavors! I would have given this place 4.5/5 overall. The other minor issue was that they have increased the menu price since the online pdf - perhaps inflation but its getting pretty steep to make this a casual eat

Eva Y.

Yelp
Ambiance - Awesome decor, dark lighting, and romantic - 5/5 Service - Our server (forgot his name) was nice, attentive, and very patient with the long list of questions that we had about the menu - 4/5 Food - My overall impression is that the food here is mediocre and overpriced. We came here as a party of 4 and none of us really enjoyed the food. The biggest issue that i personally had with our meal was the inedible sushi rice that they had served. The rice was so extremely pasty, mushy, packed, and dense that it was inedible (potentially the worst rice that i've ever had at a restaurant). For a mid-tier/higher end sushi spot, this is simply not acceptable. See rice ball video that i've uploaded on yelp for reference. Some of the things that we ordered: Blue Ribbon Maki Roll (lobster, caviar, and shiso) - $29 (6 pieces) - No one on our table liked this roll. This combination did not work at all, and the amount of shiso leaf in the maki was way too overpowering which overshadowed everything else (i could only really taste the shiso but not so much the lobster or caviar which was unfortunate). 2/5 Blue Ribbon Chicken Wings (4 pieces - $18) - These wings had a good crisp on them and i thought that their wasabi honey and chili sauces on the side really augmented the wings (the wings alone w/o the sauce was not as good). 3.5/5 Blue Ribbon "Very Special" Platter ($200) - the platter came with 3 maki rolls, 12 pieces nigiri (3 different kinds of fish), and 20 pieces of sashimi (5 different kinds of fish). - 3/5 Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna Appetizer ($24) - This was not particularly good nor particularly bad - It was assembled with deep fried rice at the bottom, and then spicy tuna on top. The spicy tuna was not that appetizing given that i think they went a bit too heavy with the sesame oil in the tuna (i was not a fan of the heavy sesame oil after note which came off distracting) 3/5 Hokkaido Uni ($16 per piece) - I love Hokkaido Uni but not too many places in the area carry them. The quality of the uni was lacking and unfortunately had a slight metallic/ammonia after-note. This was not worth the extra $$ (you will probably be better off getting some maine or santa barbara uni) - 2/5 Chutoro ($12 per piece) - Similar to the Hokkaido Uni, this was also a bit disappointing. Our pieces were pasty/mushy without much texture and came off fishy. I was really looking forward to the toro and the hokkaido uni during the meal but unfortunately both missed the mark. - 2/5 Japanese A5 Wagyu - $48 (for 2 oz/5 bite size pieces) - this was good and tasted as expected - 4/5.

Yelp
Awesome location, atmosphere and service. However, the food is incredibly overpriced and overcooked... which was the biggest disappointment. The wagyu beef piece I ordered... (One small slice for $15) was overcooked and tasted like a well done steak Applebee's would make. The sushi presentation was great. The food is good for photos... but all dishes I had were tough, tasteless and overall not worth the price. I was really disappointed and at $100 a person I felt like there should've been one dish worth. I guess it's the location that warrants the price...

Rongan C.

Yelp
Have previously frequented the location in Columbus Circle, NYC, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem to be opening a location in Kenmore Sq., Boston. The service is exceptional, and the fish is always fresh. Even for parents who are getting their feet wet in the world of raw seafood, they were impressed by the quality of the deluxe sushi and sashimi platters. Blue Ribbon is making strides to becoming our go-to sushi spot when in the city.

Gabrielle K.

Yelp
I really wanted to put this as just fine but being real with myself it was really good it's just the price point for me... I got 6 pieces of sushi, a lemonade and desert and it was 70. I would go back again but be smarter about it. I would recommend getting the sushi sets or ones that are priced $17-24. As the menu doesn't make it clear on what you are getting so if it something is like $7-12 you are likely getting a PIECE of sushi. Waiters were seriously so attentive lol they came to our table about 20 times and like 5 times in the first few minutes. It is very nice inside I wish I could have seen more areas of the restaurant but very sleek from what I got to see.

Yung B.

Yelp
Incredibly fresh, great ambiance, Knowledgeable servers. We went a bit nuts and balled out after the Sox game but it was well worth it. 2 tips. Get the rainbow roll featuring 7 different types of fish and for $4 upgrade to blue claw crab from the standard Kani (imitation crabmeat) also get the spicy lobster roll prepared inside out for much more meat. Both suggestions from our fantastic server that paid off. The house hot saki is also amongst the best I've had for a mere $14 . This place was excellent. House made Mochi for desert.....stop it. Also (pictured) the crispy rice app served with spicy tuna. Avo. And eel sauce is an ABSOLUTE must.

V N.

Yelp
Located inside the side to the right of the hotel, it's rather spacious inside. Service was great, very clean. They provide fresh sashimi and nigiri, but they don't have necessarily special maki rolls. Just the basic ingredients that are simple enough to make the maki, nothing out of the ordinary. The butter miso scallop was rich in flavor but the chicken wings were a bit too crispy to my liking, kind of burnt.

Kayla Y.

Yelp
Overall, the restaurant itself is quite beautiful and conveniently located near BU campus and the Kenmore T-Station. The sushi was good but priced pretty high. The service was good. They were very attentive to our table, keeping our table clear for our next dish and never letting the table get over crowded. (However, we did go on a Wednesday night when it didn't seem too busy) Parking: There's plenty of street parking nearby on Commonwealth and the hotel connected to the restaurant offers a decently priced parking for around 2 hours One item I would order again: Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken Wings because it was SUPER crispy on the outside as juicy and tender on the inside. Plus, the honey wasabi dip was so addicting. One item I would pass on the next time: Mochi Ice Cream because it was nothing special. Felt like it came out of the box.

Food is good but 3 stars for service. service is pushy. Always recommend the priciest item. As an example Wagyu dumpling tastes just like any other dumplings except its $26 for 4 bites. She was also pressuring me to get their omakase.... I had to strongly say no! After I say no she took away my husband's menu saying my husband has no say in deciding what to eat. I know she was joking but why take away his menu? We had not ordered anything by then. After reading the menu once the waitress sent 3 different ppl to pressure us to order. I didn't have time to read. After i sent her away with an app order she said she will come back ask me to order more every time i eat 5 pieces of sushi. And she did. I am Pretty confused but we were just grabbing a quick meal on a Thursday when the restaurant has lots of open space. Unnecessary pressure but seafood is fresh. Spent $160 on fried chicken (their food is not filling so had to order some calories), spicy tuna crispy rice (thought it was plain but husband liked it) wagyu dumplings ( don't recommend), yellow tail slices, negi toro, claim sashimi

Yelp
We loved our dinner at Blue Ribbon - we ordered lychee martinis, crispy rice appetizer, edamame and a few maki rolls. Everything was delicious. Our server was delightful- he gave us great recommendations

Yelp
Updating this to 4/5 stars! The general manager at Blue Ribbon reached out regarding my review and invited us back for an omakase experience. We went back on a Red Sox game night, and Blue Ribbon was incredibly busy that night; Despite that, the service was extremely attentive and each course came out in a very timely fashion. As for the food, the omakase was a HUGE improvement compared to our first visit. It's more similar to a kaiseki dinner (which I love), with a mix of cooked and raw appetizers as well as sushi courses. Definitely recommend trying their omakase if you can, as it's a better representation of what they're capable of and a better way to dine in my opinion.

Yelp
Good quality sashimi and quite authentic food. Some fusion dishes were good, too. Much better than average Japanese restaurants in Boston.

Yelp
Very excited to give this place a try on a date night! The inside is classy and everyone is super friendly. We paired our sushi with sake which we both enjoyed very much. We chose a few app & set menu (diff price points to choose from) which was nice if you want to take the stress out of deciding what to order. The sushi was average to me, it was fresh and everything tasted good but the value seemed overprice.

Yelp
Was looking forward to trying this place out. The ambience and staff attentiveness was top notch. Food was fine but nothing spectacular especially with the price tag on some of the dishes. Some of the fish were just ok and did not justify the price. Overall, some creative and interesting dishes. A place to take your out-of-towners but not your everyday sushi place.

Yelp
Excellent food! Super fresh ingredients and good drinks. Pleasant atmosphere for a date and not too noisy.

Yelp
Amazing service and I love the ambience. Good music and we were seated immediately as a walk in! The best thing we ordered was the wagyu meatballs! So decadent! So umami! Crispy rice was recommended by our waiter and seemed to be a popular choice but the rice was stale and crunchy... not in a good crispy way but I get the concept. Dragon roll was delicious and the sushi combo was a good option for multiple options but I will say it is quite pricey for the quality of food that was delivered! Everything was amazing but the food could've been better for what you're paying for. Would come again for the good vibes and for a special night out but sushi wise- there are better spots for half of the check

Yelp
Situated in Kenmore square, is this sushi Restaurant that gives off retro vibes, but also with a modern flair. There is plenty of staff available which provided great service. The omakase started strong with the miso butter scallops which was cooked to perfection and even tastier with the miso butter. We were then served a tempura battered white fish (forgot what kind of fish) that was so meaty, flaky and tender. It was paired well with the pickled sides. The omakase nigiri was fresh, but not the best I've had. I had strong hints of wasabi in quite a few of the pieces, which isn't my favorite. To each his own. The omakase then ended strong with A5 Wagyu and Mochi ice cream. The lychee martini was sweet, but not too sweet. However the Ka, was dynamite. I would come back here for a drink and perhaps a small snack, given that it is a bit overpriced.

Yelp
This is a really difficult review I have to do because I eat a lot of sushi and this restaurant was not great at all. What I liked about the place was the ambiance and the location, and the service. It looked like it could have been a great place for a cocktail lounge ( it actually was; the Hawthorne). I ordered two items and in my book you pass the standard maki test, I can order more. So I ordered the spicy tuna Maki which ended up tasting like nothing like a spicy tuna. It had it tasted like smoke salmon ( not even a good one) and they added a little Rice Krispie and cucumber which is really pointless. So it wasn't a pure spicy tuna roll I don't think they even gave me tuna. But it wasn't good...salty without spice no tuna flavor. It must have been masked. Then I had the version of a dragon roll which was in fact similar to the caterpillar roll. It was not great either because the avocado didn't stick to my sushi and it fell on my lap. Damn dragon scale left a soy sauce mark on my white pants! And the eel was hard and dry! It was a hard time for me to finish this roll If it wasn't for the nice polite staff, I would give it two stars. This was a great disappointment. I just didn't feel anything was fresh. I also tried their bluefin tuna collar and it was salty and fishy. I won't be ordering this again. Finally for dessert, we had the matcha green mochi. This actually tasted like real matcha green tea so if anything this was probably the most decent thing which is pretty sad. I just don't know if I have the confidence to go back. I know this is a new place and I do feel bad for saying this but eating at Fugakyu all the time and other sushi places like Uni or Zuma are sushi at it's best. They have to tweak a lot of things and it's a pity because my husband wanted to go to this place and I said "Don't Bother".

Yelp
While in town for a tech conference, we wanted to have a great experience with seafood. We were not let down by Blue Ribbon. We walked in and greeted traditionally by Japanese sushi chefs. Our server Kimberly was amazing. Attentive and not overbearing while still providing wonderful recommendations. The star studded crispy rice did not disappoint. Fresh, warm, and the right level of spice. The chū-toro sashimi was hands down some of the best I have had in my life. As a Polynesian man who has a deep love for fish, I was overwhelmed by the tenderness and delicate cut that literally melted in my mouth. The yellowtail was incredible. Delicate and yet full of flavor. The crab roll and shiso was so classic and provided a depth of flavor to the crab that was immaculate. Highly recommend Blue Ribbon for all the boxes that it ticked. Food Atmosphere Service All exceptional

Yelp
YUM! We had the best impromptu date night here. Yousef, our server, was welcoming and knowledgeable. We were able to order our small plates without feeling rushed, instead going based off of what we wanted next. Spicy crab roll was REAL crab, brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly, the scallop miso butter sauce was unreal, hamachi yellowtail was just the right amount and so fresh - we loved it all. Will absolutely come back again soon.
