"You’ve heard us talk about Blue Ribbon Brasserie and our love and adoration for it. Despite a fast and furious expansion plan that could have easily doomed the brand, it seems that each new opening from this group brings a positive new angle to the growing empire. They seem to really understand that the most important factor is the food, which is never compromised and always consistent. The fact of the matter is that the Blue Ribbon name is as reliable as Mariano in the ninth - before the shagging fly balls incident. Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya may be the most ambitious Blue Ribbon yet. The room reeks of hotel restaurant, but they’ve done a good job at minimizing the hoteliness and making the restaurant feel warm and friendly. The low-rise communal tables and big booths make this an ideal destination for dinner with a huge crew of friends, as does the massive (maybe too massive) menu. The good news is that there is definitely something for everyone - vegetarians, sushi lovers, and meat freaks alike. Our advice is to order a lot and make sure to cover all the important stuff - fried chicken, fried rice, skewers, chicken liver mousse and - wait for it - cold vegetables. That’s right. Vegetables. Our doctor seems to think that eating those things occasionally will keep us from dying. Food Rundown Cold Vegetables We were really impressed with the veggie spread that kicked off our meal. The spicy cucumbers with sour cream, garlic, and habanero were hot, spicy, and unlike any cucumber salad we’ve had before. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Momiji Moyashi, which are bean sprouts and chili paste. The hearts of palm kinpira with thin carrot skins is drenched in a tasty combo of sake and soy sauce. The goma ae (spinach with sesame sauce) is damn good, too. Kushi Yanki Skewers Go heavy on the skewers. We particularly liked the sea scallop and miso butter one. Those scallops are so sweet they could be on the dessert menu. The juicy beef short rib and garlic skewer is also awesome, as is the rock shrimp and tomatillo skewer. Hamachi Tataki/Kanpachi Usuzukuri These are the classic Blue Ribbon Sushi appetizers that we’ve eaten time after time over the years, and they never fail to satisfy. The hamachi dish is a nice little serving of yellowtail tartare with quail egg, and the kanpachi is thinly sliced amberjack with yuzu pepper sauce. Chicken Liver Mousse There are a lot of interesting items on the meats section of the appetizer menu, including chicken feet, braised tripe, and beef tongue. But it’s the chicken liver mousse that cannot be missed. Even if you don’t like chicken liver, please do us a favor and step out of your comfort zone. You’ll thanks us later. It tastes like smooth, sweet, peanut buttery goodness. We couldn’t eat it fast enough, and are prepared to call it the second best dip on the LES, behind the Freemans artichoke masterpiece. Fried Chicken Wings Blue Ribbon’s fried chicken is incredible. You already know that. But what’s interesting is that the famous fried bird is now available for the first time as an order of wings. There aren’t many better things in this world than juicy Blue Ribbon fried chicken wings dipped in a little bit of chili sauce and a little bit of wasabi honey. Get some. Pork Ribs These were short, stubby ribs that we found to be a little tough and a little chewy. We’d order them again, though, just because the black vinegar sauce and scallion glaze could make a pile of rubber bands taste good. Fried Rice One of Blue Ribbon’s best-known specialties is their oxtail and bone marrow fried rice, which is the stuff dreams are made of. You’ll find that here, but you will also find eight other flavors, including tongue and poached egg, which is the one you want. Sushi & Sashimi Go nuts on the fresh fish. It may not be the best the city has to offer, but you’ll never see us complain about eating sushi in a Blue Ribbon establishment." - Andrew Steinthal

Celebrated my birthday and did a walked in and they sat us down in less than 15 minutes. They were so nice had the greatest time here although is a Friday night it was crowded my husband and Did NOT felt rushed our waiter was so nice and sweet she gave us recommendations of certain items we should order and she did not disappoint us . We all definitely come back !

Google
Most horrible experience of my life. My date and I have been iching are bodies for days after dining here. The sushi was poor quality and not tasty. The rice was falling apart. They use cheap quality fish and rice. The fish may contain parasites here or We got histamine poisoning. Service was nothing special and the place is empty. I wish I walked out when I saw they have a C rating but my date was positive so I tried to give benefit of the doubt. Don’t be like me and let people pressure you into doing something that you feel uncomfortable doing then suffering the consequences. Good luck.

Google
Delivery was fast which is great but unfortunately the food didn’t live up to the expectation. The fish didn’t taste fresh. The salmon maki that came with the combo was mashed… not sure who likes mashed salmon. Maybe it was the platter I ordered but for the price it really was not okay. Not a positive experience.

Google
Everything was good. Our server, that never said her name was NOT personable, not knowledgeable and not friendly. Lunch time, the servers/bartenders aren’t always the A team. She was working for her income and that fine. Not the owners fault so we still left a 5 stars review. One thing that I would recommend the owners look into, is her grabbing the glasses from the inside with her fingers, then without washing her hands touching our food. That is very dangerous for contamination of glassware and food. On another hand the food was outstanding! Thank you!

We wanted to try a different sushi spot for a change and decided to have dinner at Blue Ribbon Sushi last weekend. The restaurant is on the second floor and in a very vibrant downtown location for those who are familiar with SoHo. I enjoyed all the recommended house favorites from the half lobster roll, yellowfin tuna, etc. even the edamame was delicious. The ambiance is welcoming and lively. Our server was a bit busy so we ended up placing our order with another server who was also friendly and made some good recommendations. It was an overall good experience and we would visit again in the future.

Google
Our reviews had over 52 million in the last 12 months. We do not get paid we just love to eat and have fun. We really love Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya. The food was great, the service was awesome, the room was lovely and the food was really good. I do not know Japanese names for the food we ate so let me just tell you in my own words. The scallops on a skewer were really buttery and had a wonderful sauce. Same can be said for the steak on a stick. The sticky rice with spice tuna and avocado was delicious but it is not really spicy. Everyone loved this dish. The fried chicken is also great because of the sauces. One is a hot sauce and one is a gently warm honey sauce. We loved the veggie fried rice with egg. The sushi was very good as well. My favorite was the salmon which had a lot of flavor and melted in your mouth. I loved the eel wrapped in cucumber. Desserts were very good, we loved the banana split as well as the chocolate bread pudding. They have espresso and all the other coffee drinks. Each was great. Very lovely evening. We made our initial order then added to it after we decided how full we were. Online there is a pdf menu but the non-pdf menu on the website has photos of every dish which we found very helpful. Be prepared to go up a lot of steps when you enter, but it is worth it. Also has a nice bar area. Check out all of our reviews and look at all the photos below. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 52 million views in the last 12 months and we thank you for that. We don't get paid, we just love to eat. Be sure to click on "RobH" at the top of this review to see all of them and to follow us if you like good food and FUN. If we do a review it is because we love it.

Google
Dope spot for some authentic sushi. Izakaya has a great ambiance. This team is very friendly and accommodating from start to finish. Blue ribbon friend chicken was amazing, so crispy and well seasoned. The sushi was well prepared and there are a ton of combo options so that you are able to try a little of everything.

Google
A very classy Japanese restaurant with the dining area located on the second floor. We were seating right by the entrance which provided a nice view of the lanterns that lighted up the stairs coming up. We had a sushi and sashimi combo and sashimi deluxe. Not overly heavy and it was a nice way to eat some healthy food to end the night without breaking the bank.

Liz B.

Yelp
I definitely got lost on the way here and walked past the entrance a couple of times before I found it. But the stair up has a cute decoration and the interior was nice! I got the una kyo which only came with 4 pieces and the negi Hama. I shared the ebi shumai and it was definitely filled with shrimp and was a very shrimpy taste. They don't really check on you after you order so I had to flag someone down to get more ginger. Overall sushi was fresh and good but not super worth the price with the portion sizes you get!

Poppy G.

Yelp
Sushi was good. Very expensive for a ton of food. Fish quality was good but nothing special about it. About $100 pp.

Brenda L.

Yelp
Wanted to do something different with my friend for her birthday so took her here on a Monday at 2pm. I guess there wasn't really much to expect because it didn't really feel like an authentic sushi spot. We ordered the following: Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice w/ Avocado, Serrano Pepper & Eel Sauce - You can't really go wrong with this, it's good, but just average, wasn't wow'd by it, came out with 6 pieces which I guess is considered decent for a price of $25 maybe a tad bit overprice Sashimi Deluxe Chef's Choice of 18 Pieces - I felt like the fish wasn't fresh, friend and I didn't even finish this honestly, we left a couple of pieces untouched. Maybe because Monday 2pm wasn't a good time to go? But wasn't the best sashimi experience for us Honoo 3 Spicy Rolls & 3 Spicy Gunkan which was ok, but again... overpriced Now the FAVORITE... drumrollll~ like everyone mentioned the Oxtail Fried Rice & Bone Marrow Omelet!!! Not worth the $36, but never had anything like this before so yesss we loved it! If you do come here, I highly recommend this entree!!! So on my reservation I wrote that it was my friends birthday, after dinner, before the check the waitress came out with a scoop of green tea ice cream with a candle. Normally restaurants will give a free dessert if it's an anniversary or birthday celebration so I wasn't expecting the ice cream the be charged... so I ended up paying $4.50 for a mediocre 1 scoop of green tea ice cream. Wasn't really happy about that but I didn't make a big deal out of it because it was my friends birthday. With tip total was around $190 for everything... do you think it was worth it?

Yelp
Funny Story: I was actually meeting my cousins here for dinner but went to the wrong location, so I sped walked to this location. This sushi restaurant is fancy and dark as it located on the second floor. After reading the menu, it felt more like a sushi restaurant instead of an izakaya. The food at this restaurant is pretty pricey and the menu felt very limited for some reason. It felt like forever to decide what to get here: Shrimp Tempura (5/5): The tempura dish comes in bites and wasabi mayo. This was surprisingly my favorite dish of the night. The batter was light and the shrimp exploded in my mouth. Sushi-Sashimi combination (4/5): This was present well, but it tasted like nothing special. Sakana San Shu Roll (4/5): this roll comes with tuna, salmon, yellowtail and scallion. Definitely the best value roll if you want a variety of fish. The fish was mushed together so the flavor was weird, but the scallions added a nice hint. Lychee-Toni on the rocks (4/5): Very strong and the lychee puree was pretty pretty flavorful. Overall probably wouldn't come back here again as there's better sushi in the city and at a more affordable price

Yelp
I came to Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya after my brother strongly recommended it. The restaurant itself is located on the second floor of a building and the decor was really cool. The slender hallway of stairs you walk up leads you to the dining space, which is dimly lit with dark walls. The staff was warm and immediately guided us to our table. We ordered a variety of items to try from their menu. My favorites from the visit were surprisingly the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken (dipped into their House Chili sauce) and their Ebi Tempura Roll. Both had such a satisfying crispiness that did not dry out their interior. I think my favorite tempura that I have ever had will probably be what I have tried at Blue Ribbon. I wasn't the biggest fan of their Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice appetizer or the side of fries that came along with another entree. The ratio of spicy tuna to crispy rice seems too much and there was a gumminess to the rice that was a bit off-putting. In terms of the fries, they were thin, which made them crunchy but lacked substance and flavor. Everything else was neither outstanding nor disappointing. The staff were super attentive throughout our meal. I think unfortunately considering the price of the menu, I don't think I would consider coming back since there are other options in this neighborhood. As someone had said, I think there is a low return for the price. Additionally, I did really wish there were more non-alcoholic or mocktail options to choose from besides tea and soda.

Yelp
Ambiance is great and friendly service but food. The worst sushi ever with a high price. 残念な体験でした。

Jaimie C.

Yelp
-pleasantly surprised by this place, was expecting it to be less authentic. -apps were great (esp the seared toro and the octopus sunomono) - In terms of sushi / sashimi: LOVED the seared salmon belly and toro -dessert (chocolate Bruno was really good)

Rianne A.

Yelp
Tasty and had a myriad of different rolls. Did lack a couple of popular slices of fish (such as sweet shrimp ama ebi) but all the rolls were tasty.

Brandon Guzman G.

Yelp
Ava is the best, a must try is a Yuzu margarita or a lychee martini Chill vibes gotta love a sushi and a drink on a Monday a must have try

Kailyn V.

Yelp
Good quality sushi, I sat at the sushi bar so I was able to watch them prepare each dish. The attention to detail was amazing, watching their precision slicing & molding was quite interesting. I love sushi but I'm a bit skeptical about sashimi. This time I gave it a chance & I cannot believe how good it was. I can't remember every fish on my dish but it was so good. Even the one with the fish scales still on it, you couldn't even taste it was still there & I'm big on textures. The service was great, I was able to converse with the chefs at the sushi bar. The location is pretty big, can definitely have a big dinner party. Very dim lighting, kinda gives a lounge vibe.

Shana T.

Yelp
Great spot for a date or in the mood for some sushi. The decor is really nice and cozy inside. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the oxtail fried rice and bone marrow omelet. What I did not like was we were rushed for whatever reason. I couldn't hear what the waiter said, but I did not like it and it was less than an hour and half we sat down hence the 4 stars.

Athena A.

Yelp
I don't recall the names of all the entrees pictured below, but they were all to die for. Customer service is excellent and the food is very unique. It's a perfect spot if you were looking for a place for a date. I had a rooftop view which I highly recommend.

Madeleine Y.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance of this place and would definitely come here for a date. My friends and I were craving crispy spicy tuna rice and so we came here for dinner. The service was great and the food came out fast as well. Definitely get the crispy spicy tuna rice and the vegetable fried rice! The unagi wrapped in cucumber was good but not worth the $. The tempura roll was also very good as well. This place was good but not the best Japanese food that I've had. Considering the price for the entire meal and that we left hungry, I do not think it was worth it. However, if you have the $ to spend then it's not a bad place to go!

Marsha J.

Yelp
4.5 stars Pros -Amazing ambience and we loved the booth. Great for a girls night out, romantic dinners. Not the best for family gatherings. - We loved the spicy tuna crispy rice. Fried chicken was also good. -Great sake selections. - Sashimi was OK. Service was phenomenal.

Yelp
I'll be the first to admit that I'm a newbie when it comes to sushi and I get nervous trying new sushi dishes. Lucky for me, I met Max the bartender one evening when I finally decided to step out of my comfort zone. He was incredible with explaining each roll and helping me decide what to try and was not judgmental at my in-experience at all. I opted for the chef's choice Honoo platter which includes 3 spicy rolls and 3 Gunkan. I had never had Gunkan before. It was very similar to a regular sushi roll but is shaped and prepared differently with the meat on top of the roll and rice at the bottom. I was able to discover that I liked scallop! So that was a fun experience. Still my favorite roll had to be the blue crab. Extremely fresh and well flavored. Each roll was different and had a unique taste. I was very happy with my tasting, especially for $38! A great deal! I loved the space itself, they have a nice bar section and a separate dining space that also includes the sushi counter. It looked like they are able to house a larger party too, so bring your friends! I was informed that they also have an outdoor patio in the summer, which sounds awesome. A great spot in the neighborhood that I can't wait to take my girlfriends to so I can prove that I do eat good sushi! 5/5

Yelp
I picked this place because the Mister loves sushi - and if you visit, that's what you should get. When you arrive, there is a LONG flight of steps up to the restaurant. If you have mobility issues you may want to reconsider. The dining space is gorgeous - sleek, with fun murals on the walls. They have long tables for large groups do it's a good place to bring all your friends. We started with edamame which was fine in the way that edamame us. The mister went with a sushi sampler ($40) which he said was excellent. I decided on a few small plates (more on that later) - yaki chicken ($9) and yaki beef with wasabi ($14). What arrived was a skewer of 3 1"x1" chicken chunks and one Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage sized piece of beef with a lump of wasabi. Literally 5 bites of food for $23. Yes, it's nyc but ya'll crazy. Service was fine - I felt a little rushed. I wouldn't come back just based on the low value factor.

Patrick W.

Yelp
TLDR: Another location of the Blue Ribbon group. If you're looking for something a bit more chic for sushi, it's fine I suppose. I think in this area though, there are far better places with more value to be had. If I was taking people out on a corporate card who wanted sushi and had to be in the LES - this would be a suitable choice. Everything was really just okay. It tasted fine but nothing to really write home about. The miso soup where you drop your own ball of miso paste was kind of neat. Rock shrimp tempura was a bit more on the puffy side for my liking, the spicy mayo was standard. Sushi platter was fine but again, nothing stood out. I figured because it was Blue Ribbon, I should finally try this chicken. Meh. Not particularly crispy, not super juicy. To be candid, it sort of reminded me of a knock-off version of Pecking House. Not in a good way. If you want some bougie sushi in the LES, it's fine but there's probably a ton of other places within a half mile I'd rather spend my money.

Jason W.

Yelp
A decent sushi restaurant but nothing spectacular. Blue Ribbon Sushi is located on the second floor of a building on Orchard Street and the restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious. Service was good but the food itself felt a little uninspired. We ended up splitting the Blue Ribbon Platter which features rolls, sashimi, and nigiri. However, for two hundred bucks I can't say that it's an especially good value. In all honesty, with the number of great sushi restaurants in the city, I'd say you can skip this spot.

Jefe D.

Yelp
The oxtail fried rice with the bone marrow omelette is amazing! It's definitely recommended when you come to NYC! Service is great and friendly. Definitely worth stopping by and enjoying!

Heidi M.

Yelp
Funny how I'd been to the Miami location years before trying this one at home base. I was probably on a vacation-high then, since this experience in NYC lacked a bit of that magic I felt in Miami. Still, it's a great spot to eat and catch up with friends as the vibes (and price range) lie right in between casual and upscale-fancy. Our party of 4 were sat in one of the diner-style booths last Saturday for dinner. We shared 2 orders of the wings ($18 for 4 pieces) because we all had to have their famous fried chicken. They came out PIPING HOT, almost impossible to eat unless you want to burn your mouth off. Took freshness to another level. It was a bit on the salty side on its own, but really tasty with the honey glaze dipping sauce. I had the Sushi Platter ($36 for a spicy tuna roll and 7 pieces sushi) which was pretty good but nothing particularly special. My bf got the Sushi-Sashimi Combo ($50) and thought the same. Our friends shared a Salmon Teriyaki ($34) which they seemed to enjoy as well. Overall a chill, reliable sushi/Japanese food spot in the LES. There's probably better sushi out there but definitely go for the vibes.

Johnny W.

Yelp
Aesthetically pleasing but definitely not worth the price and the quality of the food was horrible. Definitely do not come here for brunch. Eggs were over cooked, coffee were bland, toast had no butter and nothing we had was worth it. The staff was friendly and place looked nice, but that was the only plus side to our experience. For the price they charge per dish, there are definitely so many other better options! Good luck and thank you for reading!

Andrew G.

Yelp
Great Izakaya vibes with excellent service and great food. The LES can be hit or miss with price and food, while most places have excellent food, the touristy nature can be a bit much and many places are over priced. However, I found that not only was the menu really outstanding, but the sushi was quite excellent here. The more bar centric food like the shumai were also really good. It was quite a wonder to watch the sushi chefs work - they're right out in the open and fun to gander. The fish is fresh, the rolls are immaculate and our server was attentive and the food came out fast. I would highly recommend this place to scratch that sushi craving, especially if you're going to do a night on the town.

Katie A. O.

Yelp
a decent place to go to but not the best. decent sushi though but will not return due to NYC offer other sushi options.

Peter E.

Yelp
A nice surprise on the last day of our visit to NYC last week. We checked out of our room at Sixty LES and decided to have lunch with our daughter at Blue Ribbon Sushi on the 2nd floor before we caught our flight at LaGuardia. Excellent decision. We arrived just after noon and were immediately seated in a comfy booth -- there was only one other party there at the time. Ordered mushroom miso soup (they bring you the miso on the side and you mix it in -- it was excellent!), edamame, shishito peppers, tofu and seaweed salad, hamachi kama, and some sort of sushi assortment with uni. The food was great -- much better than I expected. And the service was excellent too. Very happy we chose Blue Ribbon for our last lunch in NYC.

Heejin P.

Yelp
Solid spot for slightly pricy sushi. The place is quite spacious and a relatively quiet atmosphere so it would be good for a semi-intimate small group dinner. For the three of us, we got 3 rolls and the sashimi deluxe, followed by the oxtail rice and chicken wings. The sake ikura (salmon&roe) roll was definitely the hit and the spicy crab roll was actually spicy and good (but nothing outstanding). Not sure if it's standard but all three rolls only had 6 pieces. Oxtail rice was phenomenal, and although quite pricy, it's definitely more than one serving's worth. Chicken wings were crunchy and tender but nothing extraordinary.

Althea L.

Yelp
Good for late night snacks. Great relaxing and modern vibe. Sushi was fresh. Deluxe set is more than enough for two. Chicken wings came with 4 pieces, very large portion, and deep fried to the perfection - meat was juicy with nice crispy top that's very devil for late night. Shishito peppers were very nicely grilled. Highly recommended to stop by after a concerts or musical performance in the neighborhood.

Ben P.

Yelp
was so happy to find such great sushi! Amazing service! Such a great place to sit and eat! Very recommended!!

Zac W.

Yelp
Good food, good vibes. Waiter was very attentive and the ambiance is comforting. The iced green tea had some tea residue in it but otherwise everything else was good.

Sitara S.

Yelp
Came here after bar hopping ready to eat and it was a great choice! We were a party of 3 and decided to do their Blue Ribbon special for 3-4 people. It was a great deal because there was a good selection of chef's choice sushi, sashimi and maki rolls. It was about $250 and well worth the prices. Every piece was so fresh and tasty. They also had a great selection for sake and other drinks but I went with the classic asahi beer. We also had mochi ice-cream for dessert. Wasn't anything special as far as desserts go. The aesthetic of the restaurant was also very comforting as it felt like you were in a traditional isakaya in Japan despite being in NYC. Highly recommend! I would definitely go again!

Steve M.

Yelp
Like all BR restaurants, the service was excellent. The menu seemed smaller than previous visits, but the food was great, as always.

Liza F.

Yelp
I would rate this 4.5 stars When you first walk into Blue Ribbon, you need to walk up two pretty steep staircases. I would not want to have to walk down these steps in heels after a few cocktails. Be forewarned. The dining room is very attractive. I would ask for the circular booths. They look the most comfortable. The service was very attentive and helpful. We ordered everything to share among the three of us. We had three appetizers, two rolls, and two entrees. This was plenty of food. Monkfish liver and ponzu- a great start to the meal. Silky liver paired with refreshing cucumber and seaweed Filet mignon teppan Yaki- really good. Soft, well cooked beef. Delicious stir fried cabbage in a flavorful sauce Fried chicken wings- a must order. Plump, crispy, seasoned, juicy. Pretty much everything you're looking for in a wing. And the honey wasabi sauce is amazing California roll with blue crab- good. Nice sweet crab flavor Spicy scallop and smelt roe maki- ok. Didn't really taste the roe Unadon- excellent. This was top quality eel. It melted in the mouth. Tasty pickles too. Would have liked a bit more sauce for the rice Oxtail and bone marrow fried rice- very good. The plentiful pieces of marrow really make this dish shine. Definitely add the sauce that they serve on the side. It really punches up the flavor. We all really enjoyed our meal. It's worth a visit.

Grace J.

Yelp
Excellent service and fresh sushi! Will definitely return! Great vibe and nice ambiance!

Jen H.

Yelp
We came here on a Thursday night for dinner and there were only a few other people dinning at the restaurant. We ordered: Oxtail Fried Rice & Bone Marrow Omelet Dragon Roll Sakana San Shu Wow, the Oxtail Fried Rice & Bone Marrow Omelet was amazing! I don't know how they did it. The omelet was so fluffy and tasty. The fried rice was perfectly flavored. The flavor of oxtail and bone marrow did not overpower one another. I absolutely enjoyed this dish. I think I can finished the whole bowl myself =P Sushi was good but overpriced. As for customer service, it was a bummer. We felt extremely rushed throughout our meal. As soon as we finished our last bite, the waiter came over, cleaned our table, and handed us our bill. I would understand if they wanted to give our table to another customer but 80% of the restaurant was empty and rushing us out wouldn't have made a difference...

Dayo E.

Yelp
Came for a group dinner where we all just ordered a bunch of sushi and shared it. We also had the fried rice which was really good and the miso soup. They give you the miso paste to mix into the hot water. The drinks were also really good. There was a lot of really good sushi and sashimi on the night and great drinks. The staff was very attentive especially for a large group as we were. They still have dividers between tables for Covid. Interior is really nice nonetheless but a little dark

An T.

Yelp
I was excited to try the fried chicken wings by the look of them. Crunchy but the coating made us choky. It's the dryness, turned out it a Jewish matzo meal that they used (we asked the waiter), and it's not our favorite. Dipping sauces were mustard honey and sriracha something that didn't really make the chicken better or worse? Not our favorites either. The Sushi plate had potential, but it was messy and came out too late. I had a hand roll substituted for a regular roll. It's supposed to be eaten right away, but mine fell apart and was too soggy. Sushi fish all tasted dry, and I had a feeling they had them made a while ago. The other roll was alright. At least I like the sushi rice. Green tea is refillable. Nice modern interior with great vibe and so much potential, but unfortunately, food was slightly below average. 3.5/5

Morlene C.

Yelp
I feel like my visit to Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya is many years too late, as I remember it being one of the buzziest restaurants to see and be seen in the city nearly a decade ago. I wondered if the ship for this restaurant retaining any of its cool factor and quality of food had long sailed, but after my meal here recently I'm seeing why it has remained a mainstay in such a competitive dining landscape over the last ten years. The food is fresh and flavorful, and because it's not the trendiest place anymore, you don't have to fight for a table and the atmosphere is pretty low key. The menu will appease both casual sushi eaters and those seeking a more specialized izakaya meal as well, with sections of the menu dedicated to fish from the Pacific vs Atlantic oceans. I don't know that my palate can discern the difference, but I appreciate granularity at this level. I enjoyed everything we had, including the sushi and sashimi combination, Oyako don, and tofu & seaweed salad. Their sake list was compact but covered enough flavor profiles for us to sample both hot and cold sakes, and dry and sweet ones too. The interior is a step above casual, with long sleek black tables, neutral toned and comfy seating, and tasteful lights and floral arrangements throughout the space. It was pretty quiet inside and very easy to have a conversation without needing to shout over music or ambient noise, which I appreciated. I find myself trying to pin down the most sought after reservations that I can forget the really wonderful sleeper hits that have been around for so long for good reason.

Yelp
Blue ribbon is an incredible place. The ambiance, the food, the location (although it is easy to walk past the sign if you're not paying attention). I love walking up the staircase to the dimly lit restaurant, and sitting at one of their trendy tables to enjoy a meal. I have gone here during peak pandemic dining times, as well as after, and the quality of the food is always so good. Blue ribbon is known for having an amazing breading on their fried chicken - highly recommend it as a starter. The miso butter/honey Siracha sauce they have is UNREAL! The quality of the sushi is all incredible, and if they have the crispy tuna special, it is a must order. The chu-toro is always amazing as well. Definitely one of the best upscale sushi places in the city.

Yelp
Took the family here and it was a gem with great ambience. We were all craving sushi and were all happy with everything that showed up to the table. Very accommodating, friendly staff.

Yelp
I came here with a group for a celebratory dinner for my friend and we had a great experience. We started with the shisito peppers, fried chicken wings and spicy cucumber. Everything was enjoyable, but the wings were my favorite- they were so good, I knew I had to get the chicken as my entree! Crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside- pure perfection. The wasabi honey that the chicken is paired with was my favorite accompaniment. My friend and I also shared the oxtail and bone marrow fried rice which was delicious- a must order. I'd definitely come back here again.

Yelp
Great food, and great service. We loved our waiter, he was super attentive and very friendly. What everyone is saying about the Oxtail and Bone Marrow Fried Rice is absolutely true. It is a must try! Their fried chicken wings is on point as well. It comes with two dipping sauces: chili and the other was wasabi honey. I absolutely loved the wasabi honey on the wings, and want to try to replicate the sauce myself. Then came the assortment of sushi we ordered. My favorite sushi pieces were the Otoro and Sake Toro. Both were super fatty and melted in your mouth! We got the Shrimp Yaki, and thought it was alright. I would pass on this the next time I come back. I shared everything with my husband, and honestly we were super full towards the end. If I could do it differently next time, I would do no sushi rolls, more sashimi and I'll definitely be ordering the wings and the fried rice again, so I can eat more!

Yelp
It's been a long while since I visited a Blue Ribbon in NYC. Met a friend for dinner on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess recognized an opening between reservations and provided us a table for a limited time frame we could live with - a smart use of their time and ours! We were graciously attended by servers and our drinks arrived quickly along with dishes at random intervals. Crispy chicken wings seasoned to an addictive perfection, sliced beef with wasabi and katsu, mushroom miso soup, wakame salad, oshinko (pickles), goma ae, hamachi kama and a few choice rolls . . . an eclectic combination of tastes and textures that was both artfully plated and tastily spiced and flavored with textural balance. Everything excited, nothing disappointed. But, I'm a bit spoiled living in Miami now. I'm unaccustomed to paying NY prices for Asian fare. Likewise, my dining companion's individual glasses of wine shouldn't exceed the price of a decent bottle. So, while food and service is unarguably five star, and accommodating us without a reservation is noteworthy and appreciated, I still walked back one star for the cost of a Friday evening snacking experience. Having said that, I not only recommend the restaurant, I would come back again. Albeit, more inclined to a completely alcohol-free dinner.

Yelp
There is one restaurant I visit every time I'm in NY and this is it! Perfectly prepared melt in your mouth sashimi (I'm very fussy) and sushi done right every time! Quintessential atmosphere and professional service makes this my favorite sushi restaurant. They have a solid variety of Sake and a few solid cocktails as well as the typical Japanese beer list. The dim lights with lots of wood and absolutely expert sushi chefs makes this my best bet in NYC for sushi.

Yelp
Been a while since I've been back but good as always. Oxtail fried rice is a must try.

Yelp
Delicious food, and a romantic ambience! Excellent service. Made a reservation for 7:30 and upon arrival at 7:31, was promptly seated and drinks order taken. We ordered two cocktails (lychee and yuzu), both of which were tasty, not too strong, with fresh fruit flavor. Our shrimp tempura with wasabi mayo was delicious! Crispy on the outside, steaming on the inside. Super light. Our food was taking a while, so we were given a pork belly skewer on the house (which I forgot to get a photo of), which was super tasty! Crispy and chewy texture with a balanced flavor. I think it's very thoughtful to take care of customers who have been waiting a while for their food with an appetizer on the house. My sashimi was wonderful! Fresh, light, and melting in my mouth. Amazing. My dinner date ordered the fried chicken, which was apparently great, if a little dry. We ended our meal with the flourless chocolate cake with matcha ice cream, which was SO good! Perfectly balanced cake of not too sweet chocolate with light coffee flavors. The matcha ice cream was creamy and tasted of roasted green tea; great palate cleanser. Overall, an excellent experience all around. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
Came here on a date and am actually surprised on all the reviews calling this place overpriced. I had an amazing meal and only paid $200 for 2 of us. The sushi was perfect, very much on par with Sushi on Jones and Sushi Yasuda. The reviews all called out how it was overpriced but I guess if you eat crap mall sushi, it seems expensive. If you want high quality and affordable this place is very much perfect. I mean I'm just a chef who worked at a high end sushi place, so I guess take my review for what it is.

Yelp
Came here on Friday and everything about this place was to love! The ambiance the decor just everything! We were late for our reservation, but we were seated immediately! We both weren't too hungry, but agreed we would get some apps. We started off with the tiger shrimp teriyaki and the tiger shrimp tempura, both were delicious the shrimp tempura was a bigger serving and the shrimp teriyaki was just two pieces on a skewer. We eventually order more shrimp teriyaki, which was topped with crispy garlic, this was an amazing touch of added flavor. We also tried the duck breast (didn't get a picture of that), but it was really good it came with pickled pears and cabbage. Normally, I do not care for pickled pears, but these were good. Certain parts of the duck were too raw for us, but overall it was a good selection. For our drinks we have lychee martinis and the first round was great. The second not so much, so my second round was a signature cocktail (I forgot the name and got no pic lol), but it was good! I really love the decor and ambiance in here! I would love to come back!

Yelp
Why do we always crave sushi take-in on Sunday nights? This particular Sunday night, all three of our sushi mainstays were either closed or not delivering. In desperation, I turned to Blue Ribbon. It costs more but easy to see why - fish is pristinely fresh, beautifully cut, rolls full of flavor. Definitely good in a pinch and probably a fun place to go in person for late night eats.
