"If you’re visiting from a major city and somehow miss the feeling of waiting two hours for a table—which, in this case, we both appreciate and are concerned about your priorities—head to Bluecoast. Why are people lining up? Well, because Bluecoast has been one of the best restaurants in Bethany for over a decade. The dining room resembles a fishbowl, as all of the walls have massive windows that look out onto Salt Pond. Anyone who’s a fan of freshly caught rock shrimp, halibut, or Maryland blue crab should dine here immediately. Preferably during golden hour. " - nicole schumann

"The late Matt Haley, who received the James Beard Humanitarian Award, built a culinary legacy that continues long past his death in a 2014 motorcycle accident. All of the restaurants in the SoDel Concepts hospitality group are a safe bet. But seafood lovers should head to Bluecoast in Rehoboth or Bethany; the latter offers a deck with great views of the water." - Julekha Dash, Eater Staff

This is one of our favorite spots for Happy Hour. Raw oysters are always great….the clams have gotten small. We still order the clams but they definitely are using smaller. The variety of appetizers are good. I love the dumplings. Bar area for happy hour is small so you’ll often find a line to get one of the limited tables. Really wish they would extend happy hour seating to the outside deck! The staff is always wonderful, friendly and attentive. The full menu dining is nice and we have always enjoyed anything we have ordered.

We had the pleasure of dining at Bluecoast Seafood Grill during our vacation at Bethany Beach. So nice we had to visit twice! Everything we ordered was delicious, from the appetizers all the way to dessert. The highlights included: Crab Deviled Eggs Chicken, Jalapeño & Corn Soup Pan Seared Wolf Fish Key Lime Pie The location was ideal for beautiful sunsets, providing a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable meal. The only disappointment to the evening was the service. While the staff were attentive and knowledgeable, getting our food and waiting for the check took a long time. That being said, the food and location more than made up for any negatives.

1st time at this restaurant, we come for happy hour right before it starts which begins at 4 PM (4-6 PM), as the line and parking lot begins to fill. Very quickly we’re walked to our table (bar is another good option when checking in at the door), and my gf whom has been here many times suggested to try the happy hour menu ( a great choice!) and we’ve ordered Oysters and Mussels with Spanish Chorizo over a Tomato based broth, simply spectacular!! Draft beers are $2 Off. We’ve have a great service throughout our visit by Kelly and other staff who were checking the tables often. The restaurant is very nice with a nice atmosphere and “Chill Background Music” adding to the overall vibe. A very, very nice place to visit and enjoy a great fresh food!!

Google
The food was delicious, especially the crab cakes, lobster street corn, and the frozen lemonade 🍋 I wasn't as much a fan of the side dish that came with the crab cakes (the cucumber tomato salad- it didn't have a lot of flavor and tasted like raw onions to me). I would probably see if I could substitute another side. A little pricey but that's too be expected at a restaurant near the beach. We really enjoyed the food and it was nice to have a water front view.

Google
Always a great meal at Bluecoast - great setting right on the water (we came at night so missed the view) - and their off season specials are awesome. Had their ‘special’ fish board - which I gathered was going fast that night. Monkfish in a lemony brith with potatoes and veggies. Really superb. My wife had spaghetti and clams, also very good. Always a good raw bar selection here too. Pretty space inside, but I have to say, it’s incredibly LOUD. Might be due to lower ceilings and lots glass surrounding dining room. Just prepare to talk loudly to your dining mates.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar Bethany, and I must say, it was an experience that I haven’t enjoyed in a long time. The seafood cuisine was incredibly delicious, with every dish prepared to perfection and bursting with flavor. The location added to the charm, providing a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable meal. The professional staff were attentive and knowledgeable, making sure every detail was taken care of and enhancing the overall experience. Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar Bethany has set a new standard for seafood dining, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional culinary adventure.

Google
Very nice restaurant, nice tables and great service. We got our food very quick. Food was overall great especially the fried calamari. The only problem is we had to come at 4:30 pm so we didn’t have a wait but the more people there, the better the restaurant is. Beautiful outside view and the bathroom door looks nice.

Google
Raw Bar was solid, drinks were great, and the service was the best of the three. Shoutout Addy and her fellow bar tenders - everyone was attentive, friendly, and personable. Made fast friends with others and never felt rushed sitting at the bar. Thanks yall, I'll be back with a crew soon. ✌🏾

Yelp
Excellent apps, especially the baked oysters, salmon tartar and raw bar. Had the jalapeño corn soup, another good choice. Don't skip the tartar, it is different than others and with the avocado and cream cheese it balances perfectly.

Yelp
As you can see from my last review in June this is one of my top five local favorite happy hour restaurants, because of the quality and consistency of the food and the service. When they open at 4 pm there is usually a line of people waiting to enter for happy hour during the summer season. We usually wait until the off season to visit as we did on this last Wednesday in September. We arrived at 4:05 pm. The happy hour tables in the bar area were full, but we were able to sit at two bar stools. On Wednesday's a 25% discount applies to non happy hour menu items. I started with my papas margarita for $8. I also enjoyed my dozen of Sewansecott, VA. buck a shuck oysters. My oysters were well shucked for my slurping. I also enjoyed my two pineapple martini's for $8 each. I also enjoyed my tuna poke for $15. Bartender Lauren served us very well. We discussed other Sodel restaurants and staff with Lauren. Lauren was very customer friendly. My total bill was $91. We agreed we will continue to return here for happy hour during this off season.

Yelp
The food was good the Oysters where too salty for me the key lime pie was amazing though They are pretty good at checking in so you don't have to wave the waiter down The place was small but nicely decorated

Yelp
We took a little hiatus from traveling to Bethany to come up to the Bluecoast but finally we returned again! We got here 4-15 and were seated immediately little changed on the main menu but we decided on the Conch Soup & Butternut Squash bisque for starters they were both delicious. Our Mains were the Fish Fry lightly battered cod with Boardwalk Fries and coleslaw. Lobster Cavatappi bacon, peas , white cheddar Mac sauce with herbed bread crumbs. The BlueCoast to me always comes off as an old sea shack update to a somewhat elegant dining experience with great Salt Pond views! The better half loves the Bread Pudding with ice cream so of course that's her finisher. Always great Food, great service, great atmosphere here. We'll be returning.

Yelp
Bluecoast is a popular spot in North Bethany Beach. The squat, unassuming structure sits on the side of the highway and doesnt look like much while driving by at 40+ MPH. I'm so glad we finally stopped and decided to try it! The front porch area is full of pillow-covered Adirondack chairs, benches, and small tables perfect for appetizers or happy hour drinks. There is also a covered area with some seating. You enter into a seating area and a large bar. Walking past the bar the restaurant opens into a large room with tables and booths. The servers are quick and efficient while still polite and friendly. It's clear they are pros, and know how to manage a busy restaurant. The menu has something for everyone, as well as an extensive wine menu and daily drink and food specials. If you like seafood this is a must-visit spot. There is a raw bar selection and a wide variety of seafood dishes. We will absolutely be back. Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 (extremely loud) Value: 4/5

Yelp
Bluecoast is a fantastic dinner spot with welcoming service and excellent drinks. The food was delicious, with standout dishes including the calamari and the lobster cavatappi, which came highly recommended by our waitress. Although there was a bit of a wait initially, our small party comfortably sat at the bar until our table was ready, and the transition was smooth. The experience was well worth the wait, and I look forward to returning to try more entrees.

Joya S.

Yelp
We got to this restaurant before it opened and there was already a line. Make sure to get here early or be prepared to wait! We got the oysters which were great. Make sure to get the oyster of the day for happy hour. I thought they were all $1 and was surprised once the check came. The calamari and deviled eggs were also good. We accidentally got someone else's oysters and gave them to the people next to us. In return they bought us the chocolate cheesecake which was pretty good. It was super light and creamy but the crumble on top helped balance it out. Ambiance was typical for a beach restaurant.

Yelp
Still my favorite place after a five year layoff. Great ambience, service and the food is still AWESOME. Can't wait to go back.

Alis R.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing! Had raw oysters sampler, crab deviled eggs, fried lobster tails, lobster cavatappi, and shrimp and grits.

Jody P.

Yelp
Brody did a fantastic job shucking oysters for our party! Very pleased with the service! This is the nicest restaurant in Bethany by far!

Chris P.

Yelp
Greatly enjoyed the corn chowder, which was creamy and the corn was crunchy...and the swordfish was served on a bed of asparagus and was absolutely delicious...very tender and tasty... For dessert, we shared a piece of some of the best key lime pie we've had since Florida this past spring(it had bits of coconut in it)... Highly recommend you try this place...but good luck finding a parking spot during normal dining hours!

Joseph G.

Yelp
Came in for a quick little bite because this place was recommended to us since we were in for a quick visit. We ordered scallops and oysters. The scallops were cooked to perfection super soft and fluffy. The oysters were delicious also. Our waitress was very nice and answered all the questions we had. It was definitely worth the stop.

Maria L.

Yelp
First off-- loved all of our food! Also liked the feel of the restaurant-- beach chic. We got here a speck early before happy hour to ensure we got a table. Because it gets busy here! Happy hour has a great menu-- highly recommend the mussels. We also tried the dumplings , which are fair and come in a yummy sauce and you can't go wrong with the calamari. My friends had the papa margaritas which they were feeling half way in! I had the pineapple martini which I have to admit I poured a tad bit of water in it. The star of the evening were the scallops-- delicious-- the jam sauce that was on the scallops. The sweet corn was a beautiful touch as well. We also ordered chicken tenders the adult size-- it's huge. Three or four people can share! Definitely a great place to check out :)

Andrew W.

Yelp
The food: amazing! Perfect balance of spice and flavor. Seafood is as fresh as you could hope. Oysters were spot on. Fish stew was savory and hot. Lobster cavatappi was creamy and comforting. Drinks: well balanced. Atmosphere: friendly, music at the right level, constant attention to cleanliness. I see why they have a stupid long waitlist by 5 pm every night.

Kc C.

Yelp
Food was Ok, but for the price I expected better. The oysters were the best part of the meal. Filet Minion was bland and overdone (we ask for medium rare, they came out medium well), crab cakes had too much seasoning so you couldn't taste the crab, the curry didn't have a lot too it and doesn't hold a candle to most curry. The scallops were good. Hit and miss with the apps. Drinks were so sweet that I am not sure anyone finished them. There was no parking so we also circled the lot for a good 10min until a spot opened up. Staff was nice and place was clean. It is a tourist place, so you play more for less so set expectations accordingly.

George H.

Yelp
Sorry to say that we received the rudest service by the staff here The host was condescending and bartender was just extremely rude over a small misunderstanding on a drink order Never to return

Holly L.

Yelp
We have eaten at Bluecoast with another family for our past two summer beach vacations. Food and service is always fantastic. There's usually a wait of about 30 mins or so - at least for our group of 4 adults + 4 kids - but they offer beverages and appetizers on the front patio until dinner tables are ready so we've never minded. Oyster sampler was delicious, as were the seared scallops, blackened fish, lobster cavatappi, and crabbie tots. I also appreciate that they offer more than chicken tenders and mac and cheese on the kids menu. My kids (2 and 4yo) enjoyed their grilled salmon and green beans. We'll be back again next summer!

Yelp
Combine Happy Hour with a great menu, $1 oysters, discounted drinks, beer and wine with friendly, attentive waitstaff. That's the Blue Coastal! After a day at a South DE State Park beach, the four of us found a great deal. Our very informal appearances were not a problem. We were pleasantly seated by the bar to enjoy the Happy Hour fare. We each started with 2 doz oysters at $1 each. They were plump, ice cold and delicious! Next, we tried all of the "small plate" options, including: Poke bowl with Ahi tuna, calamari, and tator tots to name a few. The best were the deviled eggs with crab meat! The girls had cocktails which were strong and delicious. The guys enjoyed oyster shooters and beers also discounted. Can't wait to go again. What a deal!!!

Yelp
My wife and I decided to go to Bluecoast for an early dinner for our 40th wedding anniversary... We arrived and were promptly seated... My wife ordered the baked oyster appetizer along with grits... I ordered the Lobster Cavatappi... We were served in a reasonable amount of time... My wife took her first bite of the oysters and noted that the dish was cold, and the cheese was not even melted...The grits were dry... I found that my dish was cold as well... The waiter checked in with us and we mentioned that both dishes had arrived to the table cold... He apologized and offered have the meals reheated, which he did... The waiter returned a short while later with both meals, which were hot and very good the second time around... The service was very good... The meal was a disappointment, especially for the cost... We won't be returning...

Tish c.

Yelp
Excellent service and food. The oysters were delicious. Only problem I wish I lived closer to it.

Abdou B.

Yelp
Tried Bluecoast seafood grill on a Thursday afternoon (packed). Food was good overall and great atmosphere. I tried the cheese grits and had the filet with mashed potatoes. Both were solid. The wife had the blackened mahi mahi which she likes

Susanna C.

Yelp
I usually go to the restaurant in Rehoboth - my favorite go to seafood restaurant, but I wanted to check out this waterfront location. We arrived for happy hour, but since there was no available bar seating, we took the regular seats. We had a beautiful view of the Delaware sunset during our meal. I do recommend trying to get a seat by the windows. For some reason the food just didn't impress me the same way that the other location has. The salad was good - it was probably my favorite. We had a fish soup, but we didn't seem to find any fish in it. The baked oysters were a bit overwhelmed by the flavors of the toppings. The big issue for us was the coarse salt - some of the salt fell from the oyster into the salad. My husband bit into one of the salt pieces that fell into the salad and it split his tooth (he had to have the tooth extracted). (I sent a message to the restaurant suggesting that they don't use coarse salt in the dishes.) We also ordered the ginger cake - I had to because their pastry chef won a competition recently! The ginger cake was very good.

Yelp
On of the very best restaurants in the area! Chef Kevin came to our table to talk to us about the menu and offer his suggestions. Great atmosphere full of happy people ! Food and drinks were delicious. Will definitely be back!!

diane n.

Yelp
Consistent quality -- parking lot always full, so that speaks well! Friendly wait staff, nice happy hour, lovely location.

Amy L.

Yelp
Nice spot! Very summery and light decor. Fresh and bright, stylish and comfortable. We loved the fresh oysters- great variety! Shared calamari which was lightly breaded, tender and crispy. Steamed clams were delicious - delicate broth with lemon and garlic. Can't miss! Crab cakes were fantastic - packed with lump crab with just enough seasoning. Served with a fresh, summery salad of cucumber, tomato and watermelon - really nicely done! Crab Louie special was straight fire! In a light and flavorful dressing with a little spice. Crispy fried crackers were tasty and a great addition to the plate. Would eat this every single day! Service was quick and attentive. They replaced a spilled glass of wine without a fuss. Thanks for your hospitality and a great meal. This place is always crowded and there's lots of reasons why! We went early and were seated right away. Another SoDel winner! Highly recommend!

Paul S.

Yelp
We ate here last night and it was ok. We got there at 3:45 pm because I had read to get there early and there was a line already because they opened at 3:30 pm because of the holiday. We got seated quickly. Service was good. Food was ok. My sister in law said her oysters were the best she's ever had. I got the Muscles and they were spicy. My husband got the crab deviled eggs and he said they were tasty. I got the seafood stew. It was ok but again spicy. My brother in law got spaghetti and clams. He liked it. My SIL got the lobster cavatappi. It was ok but SIL thought there would be more lobster and my husband thought it should've been creamier. The bread pudding was amazing and I don't even like bread pudding. Overall it's ok but we think it's a bit overhyped and overrated. In our opinion it's not worth waiting a half hour to an hour.

Hannah G.

Yelp
Had SUCH a good meal here tonight! Came on the Fourth of July around 7 and got seated right away near the window with a party of 5. We got a sunset view to accompany an amazing meal from start to finish. The hush puppies and the shrimp and grits were the highlights but all the seafood was super fresh. The staff is so attentive and helpful giving recommendations. Highly recommend!

Laura L.

Yelp
Our food was almost inedible, I understand the salt factor in Restaurants is generally higher than the home cook uses but I had to scrape the blackened part of my fish off so I could eat it. Our server was fine, not sure who messed up to cause our entrees to take an hour to get to our table and then only to be the worst dinner in a restaurant in a while. Went from one of my all time beach favorites to a place I will not be returning to, sadly.

Erica S.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour (4-5pm) and loved everything! It is always very busy so we arrived 15 minutes before they opened at 4 and got seated right away once they opened. They have a parking attendant to help you with a seamless parking experience since the lot can be very busy. We enjoyed the house margarita and martini- which were strong in the best way! We got calamari, mussels and shrimp dumplings off the happy hour menu and chicken tenders and scallops of the regular menu. We loved it all! Despite how busy they were our service was very prompt! I'm planning to come back on a less hot day and sit outside.

Kris P.

Yelp
Always a fave when I'm on this side of the ocean. Excellent options and abundant with wine, their cocktails are strong and deliciously unique. I've tried several salads and entrées, some faves are the oysters Rockefeller and ahi tuna spinach salad. Ask about the raw bar it never disappoints! For afters if you have room and if available, get the glazed bread pudding. Holy orgasm, Batman! Yea... knuckle biting mmmmm. Dress comfortable, come before the dinner crowd, and grab a glass before dinner. My only gripe is it does get loud in here. Goodness...

John C.

Yelp
Always enjoyable to be there. The food is great. The service excellent and nice to watch the sunset there. Always a sure stop on our trips to Bethany Beach.

David L.

Yelp
5 for food. It got freakishly busy for a Wed at 5pm. Everyone was great, but not 5 stars. Birthday with family. I had the Togarashi crusted Tuna. Fish cooked perfectly. Eating Tuna nearly raw will show you how fresh the fish is and this was really fresh. The set up was nice, Asian leaning and just good. Mom had Fish Fry and the Cod was seasoned and cooked well. Dad did Clams and Spaghetti and was happy. I can remember a bunch of great meals for special occasions, and it never disappoints. The severs were all incredibly friendly and good, it was fluke rush.

Clarissa V.

Yelp
You gotta get there like 15 minutes before Happy Hour if you're trying to get one of the few seats at the bar for oyster Happy Hour during the high season. Besides that, it's an amazing stop over and great sampling of the rest of their dinner menu. The dinners are fantastic too and a nice switch up from Matt's Fish Camp when you want to up your dining experience. Great date night! I sure wish that all of the outdoor patio seating was facing the back with the amazing sunset bayside views instead of facing the highway. One day I hope they can pick up the restaurant and rotate it 180° those sunset bay views are beautiful. You can get the views from the inside dining seats but it's nice to be outside sometimes too :)

Jerry J.

Yelp
We have been dining at Blue Coast for years, it's often hard to get in but worth the wait. The seafood stew is delicious and finish it off with the absolute best bread pudding I've ever had.

Ryan W.

Yelp
I don't believe I have had a bad meal here. I have had shrimp and grits, swordfish, lobster cavatappi and other main entrees and nothing has been bad. The service is good. They get busy but I have found the service to still be engaged. The food can come out slow at times, but it's to be expected considering the number of people who eat here. Highly recommend sitting on the back deck if you can at sunset. It is beautiful out there!

Lester W.

Yelp
Stay away from this place. Awful experience. Paid my check and was accosted by employee who accused me of not paying the check. The food is great, the space is tight. But the service is reflective of a diner.

Sweta P.

Yelp
Delicious place in Bethany. Loved the wine selection and all the food. Probably the best place in the city. No reservations but wait was 45 min or less for our table of 4. We had a drink by the bar and service was great and friendly. Just what we wanted. Courtesy bread was so yummy, tasted like a milk bread. We shared the deviled eggs (good), shrimp dumplings (good) and the crab salad with ritz crackers (amazing!!!) The fish of the day was excellent (swordfish and grouper) as well as the key lime pie at the end. Def a must stop. Prices are higher but quality of good preparation is clearly very high end and worth the prices.

Judith Y.

Yelp
Great fried lobster tails . Fish and chips all very good. Location great and dining area very comfortable. All great servers. Heading back soon

Christina D.

Yelp
Food was fresh and delicious! Service was excellent and the atmosphere was clean and inviting! We will definitely go back next time we are in town!

Maria B.

Yelp
Food is always fantastic as well as atmosphere and service. There are two location one in Rehoboth and the other is in Bethany Beach, DE both great choices

Amber B.

Yelp
First of all the sight was epic. The ambiance was truly romantic but also family friendly. I felt really in my element and surrounded by like minded people. Our service was sooooo good as well. We weren't overlooked for ever a second.. NOW.. the food was SPOT ON! The chef even came out to the table and checked on us. I thought that was really nice and major kudos to him as well. The Brussels Sprouts are a MUST! Thank you all for a fantastic one year anniversary celebration for my beautiful, now fiancée, and I.

Lee W.

Yelp
I would give this restaurant 4.5 stars. Service and atmosphere were wonderful. We started with calamari, smoked fish dip, potato soup, and conch soup. We enjoyed it all ... especially the calamari (one of the best I've had). Seared scallop entree was out of this world delicious. Everything on that plate worked harmoniously together. The lobster cavatelli entree was excellent as well. The two dishes that were just okay and not special were calms and spaghetti and the shrimp and grits (would skip these two dishes next time). I will be back again for the appetizers, seared scallops entree and lobster cavatelli. Definitely try this restaurant out when you are around Bethany beach.

Chevy B.

Yelp
This place is the best. I know I reviewed it not long ago but back again because I love it. Sarah is still making the best Belvedere martini. I met Jerry tonight and he is an oyster aficionado. He took time to explain all the different oysters and he is an oyster mother shucker. You gotta come here.

Tom P.

Yelp
An untapped gem on Highway 1. The cocktails were phenomenal (try the spicy margaita, but get ready for some great spice!). Had the Scallops, and they were downright decadent. HIGHLY recommend this place!!!! Great spot if you're vacationing at the beach!!!

Marta D.

Yelp
I cannot stress how good this restaurant is. It is easily one of the top spots in Sussex County, if not one of the top spots in the State of Delaware. Always fresh, the seafood is amazing. Service is too notch. They work as a team to make sure you are taken care of. The main dining hall can get noisy, but outside (both front and back decks) are wonderful during the summer and fall. Highly recommend the blackened tuna.

Sarah S.

Yelp
We went here for our anniversary after being unable to find a parking spot at the place we originally planned. The food, atmosphere, and service was WONDERFUL! We had about a 45 minute wait, but it went by quickly since there are comfortable chairs and a server who comes by with a cocktail menu. We had a crab appetizer, beer and wine. Everything was served quickly and fresh. Once we sat, we had a Fried Baby Lobster Tails app and our entrees. I ordered the soft shells and my husband had a filet. I highly recommend going!

Xu H.

Yelp
Enjoyed this place each year when we visit the beach. Always reliable good food. Sometimes needs to wait a little bit outside to get tables, but it's worth it.

Macy T.

Yelp
This is a popular spot so get here early if you don't want to wait long to be seated. The calamari was super fresh my kids polished it off quickly. The give you complimentary bread and butter while waiting for the great food like lobster Mac n cheese and the seafood stew. The stew had plenty of large chunks of fish but it was very dry. But the broth was heaven and it filled my mussels and clam. I dunked the complimentary bread in it to sop up the yummy goodness. They also have a kids menu offering non seafood fare for the little picky ones. Plenty of free parking which helps cover the cost of dinner here. It was a bit pricy here for a family of four and no alcoholic beverages.

MJ B.

Yelp
One of my favorite Sodel restaurants! Great food and drinks. A little pricey. Restaurant has nice views but can be loud in season
