Garden Café

"The Scottish outpost to London’s 'Sessions Arts Club' exudes a charming, bohemian vibe. It is set in a delightful walled garden within the 16-acre grounds of a beautiful Georgian mansion and much of the seating is on a covered terrace. The concise menu delivers a range of unfussy, European-influenced dishes designed for sharing, with some ingredients coming directly from the gardens." - Michelin Inspector

Boath House | Best places to stay in the Scottish Highlands

"In the 1990s, this Grade-A listed Georgian mansion was on Historic Scotland’s endangered list. Then Don and Wendy Matheson lovingly restored what has been described as the most beautiful Regency house in Scotland. Today, it’s an award-winning hotel, scattered with antiques and artworks – although the main focus has always been on providing three simple ingredients ‘a warm welcome, a comfortable room and a fine dinner.’ Talking of which, there’s a Michelin-starred restaurant too. We hired the Kale Yard for our wedding in September 2021. We are absolutely delighted that we chose it as our venue. Communication with the venue leading up to our day was always excellent, giving us real peace of mind. The venue itself is stunning. The relaxed atmosphere combined with the beautiful walled garden and grounds of Boath House make it an ideal small wedding venue. Our guests raved about the food, many commented that it was the best food they have had at a wedding. The service on the day from the Kale Yard team was flawless. There is a real attention to detail in everything that they do. We can’t recommend them more highly.

Absolutely incredible and simply perfect. We have just returned, happy and full from my wonderful birthday dinner. The staff could not have been more attentive and friendly, they created such a lovely atmosphere. The pricing was a pleasant surprise, I expected many of the dishes to be at least double their price. When you consider the quality, produce and perfect execution Boath Garden Cafe is incredibly reasonably priced. The picturesque setting matched with the high standard of food and service means we will look forward to returning, even if that does incur a several hour journey from St. Andrews- it would be well worth the trip! Thank you for making my birthday such a treat, we look forward to joining you again!

The Garden Cafe is just 10 minutes out of Nairn by car, very easy to get to with plenty of parking. The cafe is behind the main house and even on a cloudy day in November, we could see how beautiful and serene the gardens are! Cooper provided fantastic service and the salmon and pizza were delicious. Moderately priced, £30-40 for 2. Very worth it!

An amazing lunch stop on the drive from Aberlour to Culloden Battlefield. First, the house estate and gardens are beautiful. Second the food was phenomenal. The focaccia was warm, slightly salty and pillowy soft with a lovely olive oil on the side. The leek and morbier cheese starter was creative beautiful and delicious, loved the leek capers. The scallop crudo was fresh and delicate and would have benefited from shaved radish rather than cubed but otherwise yummy. The rump steak and fries cooked to the right temperature. The halibut & bonne femme was sublime. The absolute deal of the day was the Sunday Roast with cauliflower au gratin, roasted vegetables to perfection, roasted potatoes and the gravy with a popover. The desserts where light especially delightful the chocolate mousse and roasted fig. We understand that the menu changes very often. The drinks and curated wine list was small but beautiful paired to the meal. This lunch was a true treat worthy of any immerging foodie scene, a joy in the Highlands. Awesome discovery!!!

Outstanding quality of food and amazing atmosphere. Always fresh and local ingredients with extra finishing touches of home grown produce from the restaurant's garden. Unforgettable experience visit after visit. We're very lucky to have such place in the area!

An off-shoot of the renowned Boath House restaurant, in a more informal, casual setting. It has its own menu, heavily focussed on seasonal produce from the kitchen garden, frequently decided at the last minute only after a check of the garden. Don't expect a fixed menu, expect something different and delightful every time. In warmer weather done alfresco or simply enjoy a coffee in the walled garden.

Very nice little cafe / restaurant tucked away off the main road. Almost a bit of a secret garden. Food was really good and good prices. Staff friendly. Warm and welcoming. I would recommend for friends and family if visiting.
