Boath House Is Scotland’s Buzziest—And Most Beautiful—New Hotel | Vogue

"About half an hour east of Inverness just outside Nairn, it doesn’t get more bucolic than this newly reopened hotel, which relaunched earlier this summer after an extensive refurbishment; artist Jonathan Gent—who recently worked on the buzzy central London restaurant Sessions Art Club—handled the design, and the food is by the team behind the Michelin-starred Trinity in Clapham. Housed in a Georgian mansion built in the 1820s for a baronet and his family, it still feels pleasantly posh, with purebred ponies—"the last of their breed"—as the only aristocrats living on the estate." - Zoe Dubno

Boath House Hotel (Nairn, UK) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A lovely Regency house in the Scottish Highlands provides the raw material for this eleven-room family-owned and operated hotel, but if you’re expecting a period piece, you’re in for a surprise — Boath House is respectful of its surroundings, but the rooms are furnished in a vibrant mix of vintage and modern pieces, and the comforts are thoroughly modern, without the slightest fear of anachronism. The Garden Café serves local and seasonal fare with French, and Italian influences." - Tablet Hotels

We lunched here after our daughter bought us a voucher. Absolutely delicious food. The clotted cream ice cream and apples from their own orchard was the best dessert we have ever tasted. |The setting is very inviting…… you feel like you are dining in a period drama.|Staff very welcoming and attentive. Would certainly recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our stay at Boath House was truly memorable. The house itself is stunning, with beautiful architecture and immaculate rooms that made us feel instantly at ease. The food was exceptional – every meal was full of flavor and beautifully presented – and the service was outstanding. The staff were attentive, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make our visit special. Boath House is a rare gem where everything comes together perfectly: setting, comfort, dining, and hospitality. We can’t wait to return.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Boath House. This was the final stay on our honeymoon trip, and they very kindly upgraded us to an incredible room! The staff were brilliant, particularly Angus. Every space in the house and grounds was beautiful, with clearly a great deal of time put into the interiors. Throughout our stay the food was also wonderful. Thank you so much!

We too unfortunately experienced a very disappointing stay here. Intended as a special night away, it wasn’t anywhere near worth the ~£350 p/night. Suspect many of the positive reviews were before it changed hands. There are other places for this money in Scotland where the service and hospitality you would receive would be of a far more acceptable standard – it was pretty shambolic. The bad: - No hot water for the duration – tepid, at best, and certainly cold once the bath was full. Not informed by staff when it became apparent there was a problem and, given no obvious reception or internal phone in our room and only one member of service staff (see below), trying to tell anyone was challenging. No apology until raised at end of stay. “It is an old house” the reason, which I don’t really think cuts it at £350 a night. Plenty of other “old houses” that charge this much that manage. - Lack of staff. Appeared to be 1 member of staff covering front of house, waiter, the bar and reception on a Saturday afternoon & evening for hotel guests and restaurant guests. Credit to him, he did admirably but did contribute to slow service and other guests advising (in gallows humour) “if you want a drink, just head into the kitchen and ask the chef”. - No information before, on arrival when shown to the room or in the room on how things worked. So, unclear how we were supposed to use the sauna, connect to in room speaker, where to find someone if needed help, what was happening with the market garden. - Breakfast. One server so took nearly an hour (with one other table, so hardly busy). Ran out of toast (what we were given seemed like crusty ends from dinner the night before). While the other table had to eat an entire plate of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs without toast – a very one dimensional breakfast in texture, I fear. - Gardens – rather overgrown and unkempt, maybe they’re going for the rewilding look but – given no information was given about the house/gardens – who knows (I suspect not). - House/room - lovely, but there were some sweat stains on our bedroom’s headboard and clearly there’d been a major roof leak in one of the hallways meaning a big carpet stain. A swatch of wallpaper pinned to the room’s noticeboard, presumably left as someone was making an interior decorating decision, was also rather odd. The bathroom was nice but, crucially, lacked hot water so we weren’t able to enjoy it. - No contact from hotel manager after an initial email for 2-3 months having initially been offered a complementary return stay on raising matters above on departure. At the time, a kind gesture – now, obviously, a hollow one. And the number on the business card she gave me seems to have a fake number. All in, I think this final point encapsulates this place. Avoid. The good: - The food in the evening was good, and interesting. The bread served had clearly been defrosted as the centre of each slice was cold, though, and as above, service left a lot to be desired. In fairness, we were offered a discount on our food bill, but with our issues being mainly with the service and room, not the food, this seemed misplaced.

Boath House is a wonderful place, very quiet and relaxing, surrounded by a garden with a pond and big trees. Our room was spacious. The bed was huge and comfortable. No tele but a relatively good bluetooth speaker so that we could listen to our favourite music.|At nighttime we relaxed in a beautifully decorated saloon and were served by Angus who was a very friendly and communicative guy.|The quality of the breakfast was exceptional. It was freshly cooked to order. The breakfast room is light and bright with a view to the pond.|I wish they had more guest because they deserved it.|We can only highly recommend it.|

We had a lovely stay at Boath House. The location was great we really enjoyed the gardens and sitting outside in the evening. The food both lunch and dinner was high quality and delicious. the staff were attentive and freindly, especially the sister and brother that worked there. I’m sure we will be back in the near future.

Not worth it, sadly. We stayed at Boath House start October, and this was supposed to be the highlight of our trip to Scotland. However, it was a really odd and sadly, also disappointing experience. I’ve been calling and mailing Boath House multiple times to get some clarity, but with no luck, hence I’m writing this review so other people hopefully won’t end up disappointed. The morning we were supposed to leave I had enough and wanted to talk to someone who worked in the reception or the like, but as I just went downstairs at 08.10 the house was completely empty, the kitchen a mess and the tables were not cleared from yesterday. I also opened the front door to see if anyone was outside but couldn't spot any, and the door to the reception was locked. I found no one to talk to. This weird experience already started the day before when we arrived 15.30 to what felt like an empty house. The place is beautiful, but there were no candles lit, no music in the lounge and no people in the reception. First, we waited for some minutes, but then we decided to ring a bell at the reception. We ended ringing it twice and waiting for 10 minutes until we were met by a lady, who said she didn't know where the person working in the reception was and then asked us to wait a bit longer. We waited again, until some other guests came with someone from the staff, person A. As we got in contact with the person A, we were showed to our room. Here we were left alone, with no house tour, no explanation of how anything works etc. We decided to unwind before making it down for drinks and dinner. Again, we found an empty reception, still no candles had been lit (though we could see there are lanterns and candles all over to make it cosy), luckily there was music in the lounge now so it felt "open". We sat there for some time, and then rang the bell again to ask where the whiskey lounge we had read about was, and if we could get any drinks. Person A again met us and helped us. After we had enjoyed our drinks we asked if we could have dinner - again we were not sure how it would work because three tables were set with candles, but there were undone tables in the dinning room too, no other guests for dinner to start and no living candles on the fire place, though again we could see there were candles (a small detail maybe, but it honestly makes a big difference and left us with a feeling that things were not ready). We sat down by our table, and not long after the chef came to introduce himself and asked about allergies (we were off to a good start here!), but then the food started to arrive, and we had not been asked about drinks - I assume this was because person A was busy helping other guests, but this left my boyfriend to order a bottle of wine when he had the chance to order with person A, instead of the wine menu, as it seemed completely impossible that person A should be able to pull off the wine menu while also doing everything else. This turned out to be a good decision, because it took +30 min for the bottle of wine to arrive, the glasses put on the table for it came out dirty (as we pointed this out they were changed) and we finished the bread and starter without wine. As the dinner went on, the food arrived but sometimes without cutlery, and the old plates were not cleared when new arrived. This was such a shame, because the food was amazing, but the lack of overview from the staff took focus because we constantly had to be proactive on asking for cutlery, asking to have plates taken out, ask for a new candle on the table as the other one burned down etc. The thing is, the house is amazing, the food was super good and well prepared, the staff (i.e. Person A) was doing their best, I'm sure. However, calling it fine dining and charging high prices for "a luxury Scottish Highland getaway" does not go hand in hand with the experience we have had at all.

I would like to start of by saying how amazing the staff has been throughout our stay at this amazing place. Vivian has been extremely friendly not only while guiding us through one of the most delicious (and offering the tastiest bread) fine dining experience from Chef Iain that my partner and I had but also during breakfast. And we could not talk about breakfast without mentioning Ellie who always greeted us with a smile and made sure to remember our orders every morning. Furthermore, I would like to extend our compliments to the rest of the staff members such as Melissa and James who always made sure nothing was missing during our stay. The house itself was remarkable and I would strongly recommend anyone planning on visiting the area to consider staying at least a few nights there to be fully immersed. Everything was clean and comfortable while offering a very intimate atmosphere with great music and an outstanding selection of drinks from wine to whiskey.

Yelp
Staff is friendly and attentive. Room was first class, large well appointed and comfortable. Meal was unbelievable value - portions were generous. Cod main was perfectly cooked and excellent combination of flavors. Venison and wild mushroom main was outstanding. Cheese course definitely large enough to share for two, might actually work for three. Desserts perfect. Highly recommended.

Yelp
My absolute favorite hotel is Boath House on the northeast cost of Scotland, in Nairn. A beautiful regency house with an interesting historical past. The owners, Wendy and Don, we have known for a long time now and they run their hotel with love, passion, humour and a sort of bluntness on Don's side, which is not always understood by everyone. But we love this man for it. All rooms have a different interior. Most are a mixture of typical Britisch elements (think poster beds, baths on legs, thick curtains, warm colors) but there are also rooms in the basement that have a contemporary design. Very special is the family cottage on the property. Useful if you 're with a family of four, but also very romantic to stay in as a couple. The garden surrounding the house lends itself to a lovely walk. Flowing waters, wild geese and ducks, a lake and walled gardens. Incidentally, in the area of Nairn there are many famous golf courses for lovers. It's quite difficult to find really good places to eat in this part of Scotland. With the exception of the restaurant at Boath House . This restaurant earned, in the course of the years that we stayed there, a Michelin star. Very deserved. Every night they have a set menu with several small courses. A true treat too look forward to. But my hands itch to redo their restaurant as an interior designer. They do really need to cosy up the place a liitle with better lightning, a working fireplace and some more unique items and furniture. Then again; Their breakfasts are also something that we love to come back for again and again. Should you, however, need to have an early check-out in the morning, do not count on a catered breakfast or that there is someone to carry your bags. But even this fact does not prevent us from always wanting to come back to them. Daily flights to Inverness with www.flybe.com We komen hier zeer regelmatig . Prachtig landhuis in schitterende Schotse omgeving.

Yelp
A great restaurant, that really does what a Michelin starred restaurant. Warm, hospitable and a bit quirky. I have been for dinner, about 90 quid for 5 or 6 courses and three times for lunch which is about 30 for 3 courses. The dinner is worth it, but I think the lunch menu is spectacular value for what it is. Although I'm usually a typical stingy scot, I usually grudge paying for steak in a restaurant ( partly as I feel I do it better myself), but I've never left here grudging the price because at the end of the day you are paying for an experience. I always book, not sure if you can just turn up, I asked about dress code and was told smart shirt and jeans were fine although they don't take dress code too seriously. You have pre meal drinks on a nice reception room with comfortable couches and a fire. The place really does look great. Bottle of prosseco for 30 quid, which at a restaurant like this is not bad. If there is 4 of you it is a nice wee treat. Often only a few other diners, but even when there are more there a plenty of rooms where you can be put so there are others but it is still intimate. Can't speak highly enough if the host, knowledgable and friendly. If your up north and you fancy a treat, it's worth beans on toast the following night.

Yelp
My favourite food and hotel in Scotland. Great place. When booking dinner on the phone was told the dining room was 'smart casual', sort of laughed as that was a little weird. I don't really dress up at all and think that formal style is a little outmoded to be honest. All fears were laid to rest on arrival. The host is very charming and hospitable. I think my plaid shirt and trainers were ok! When I was browsing the wine list I remarked at how well priced the Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs was (not much off retail). His reply was "People come here to pay good money to eat. I want them to be able to drink good wine as well". What a change from the other Michelin starred places in Scotland with 300% to 400% markup on their wine list. Food was exceptional but no particular notes as with the excellent and affordable wine list I was already 2 bottles in by dinner. Is a classic French style with good local sourcing. Great decor and service. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Delicious food, perfect service, excellent value. Upon arrival we were sat in the reception room and offered an aperitif while we perused the menu. We ordered and then were shown to our table. The food arrived promptly and the staff had the perfect mix of being knowledgeable and friendly with out being overbearing. The three course lunch was wonderful value. We would definitely return.

Yelp
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. From the reception room, to the view of sunset over the lake, to the incredibly interesting and delicious food, the dinner was an experience that I will never forget. The dishes ranged from a twist on the familiar (rabbit and potato) to the wholly unexpected (pickled walnuts), but they were all absolutely perfectly done.
